I thought the SS & SE were in support of Subsidy removal that was why they refused to protest when we were all protesting just because fuel sold in their zone above N65. Didnt they realise that If pump price officially rises from N65 to N97 they will always pay above that? And if they dont know, inaccesible roads is the major reason why they will always pay more than the official pump price for petrol. They should have used that avenue to make their grievances known but they kept quiet. Serves them right! |
Its still the same set of people that has been ruling Nigeria for the past 40 years and you will still find them in PDP, ACN, CPC, ANPP or APGA. We need someone with good leadership qualities who has singlehandedly excelled in his or her own chosen field/profession/business without benefitting from any government in power and has no relationship or alliance with the aforementioned political parties. If you vote for any of these political parties, you are still voting for the same people that have ruined Nigeria and sadly come 2015 people will still vote for them because of illiteracy, religion, sentiments or ethnicity. |
Occurences of last week was a defining moment in Nigeria's history. It now seems NLC cant defend Nigerians from The Government again. SNG should continue the protests and bring all the untreated issues to the doorstep of the Government. |
People of South South should stop tribalising this issue. President Jonathan like any other past president is always going to be criticised. I believe they should be aware of that. Obasanjo was not voted for by his people and when in office he was greatly criticised and even abused, his people didnt bring heaven down. Yar adua too was criticised for being sick and the way his illness was handled. Now the people came out in droves to criticise Yar adua government and ensured Jonathan was sworn in as Acting President are now the ones criticising him because of the policy which majority of the people feel its not in their interest and people of the Niger Delta are now complaining that people in the West and North should leave him alone and shouldnt criticise him. His he the President of Niger Delta or President of Nigeria?? Did he win with SE and SS votes alone?? So why cant the people of Nigeria criticise him like they have done to other Presidents from other zones without you people screaming blue murder?? |
@ Bamosagie, A Government for the people by the people meaning the MAJORITY. Is Boko Haram majority or minority?? So why should govt yield to Boko Haram? |
In DEMOCRACY,the majority always win. Those against subsidy removal are more than those in support of subsidy removal which automatically makes those against subsidy removal winners. If the Government then decides to ignore the majority, the majority shouldnt let them rest until their mandate is given to them. So therefore, PENGASSAN should join in the strike and help in finally shutting Nigeria down this will arm twist the government and make them yield to the people. |
As reported in The Saturday Punch Newspaper 14/01/12 that Allision Madueke is the brain behind subsidy removal on 01/01/12 without the knowledge of other cabinet members. It is also reported that Governors and 2 Female Ministers (Madueke and Okonjo-Iweala) are the ones advising the President not to backdown by yielding to the demands of NLC/TUC so as not to appear weak. I guess both are in this just to test their might and we go round the circle without reaching a conclusion. But i thought they said DEMOCRACY is a Government for the People and by the People so If the masses which make up majority of the people say NO to the Government, i believe they should listen to them since we are practising DEMOCRACY and not DICTATORSHIP. |
This theory just makes GEJ look more like a puppet. It doesnt add up at all. |
Sadly, CORRUPTION which has been the root of all evil in Nigeria isnt discussed by the Government but only subsidy removal which will help in the elimination corruption only in the Petroleum Industry is the only one discussed. Dont you think that the corruption that exists in other sectors and areas of life in Nigeria will eat up the proceeds gained from subsidy removal?? |
If its political, it was caused by FG (PDP). People in SW, NW, NE, NC and even SS, SE are angry because of this necessary but untimely policy but because of sentiments majority of the people in SS and SE have refused to protest just because he his from the zone. So if the President does something wrong others shouldnt protest? |
This is damning revelation! The House of Representatives should take this up. Government in its effort to cover up corruption has resulted to spin efforts spear headed by them on the inconsistencies by public officials and the distorting of facts to deceive and confuse Nigerians on the issue at stake. The Government should be brought to its knees on the account of this. |
Just because 150 million Nigerians are not on the street doesnt mean they are happy with him. If you care to know, majority of Nigerians are unhappy with him because of his actions and inactions. It was mainly sentiments that got him there in the first instance but with the way things are going, people are having a change of mind and i dont pity him AT ALL! |
@ dmainboss, you must be the one in dreamland. Who told you that GEJ has the main punch? He his the one that put himself in this situation because he seems to be clueless and cant figure things out for himself. Goodluck may take you there but it may not keep you there. How about If South west, North East, North West, some North Central & South East and even some South South (Oshiomole and Sylvia connection) Senators decide to move against him? At the end of the day he may not leave but he may end up BADLY BRUISED & BURNT. |
In as much as we are being too harsh on Pres. Jonathan, he has not helped himself in the first instance and he has only himself to blame. If majority of the people that put him there, say they dont want a particular policy just because it doesnt favour them then he should yield to their demands and if he refuses then impeachment proceedings can be carried out against him. |
But dont forget that the Govt too has sponsored propaganda against the people in many ways an example of it is them telling us that Nigeria's economy will collapse in 5 years if fuel subsidy is not removed but you and i believe that is not true. So if we do this in retaliation, then i consider it fair play. This is high level politics, this is a battle of wits. |
I think the issue about the shipment of 1100 buses into Nigeria in just 2 days is a lie but dont forget that anything is possible. How about if they order from a thousand suppliers? Though i believe that FG cant do that. To know if this information is True of False, we need to investigate by checking out the paperwork for the supply of these buses. |
Though he looked a bit off pace, i guess he hasnt forgotten how to score. |
Thierry Henry who is on a 2 month loan deal from MLS side NY Red Bulls came on as a 68 minute subtitute against Championship side Leeds United in the FA Cup tie at the Emirates Stadium. He scored the only goal of the game with his second touch of the ball and increased his goal tally to 227 after having scored 226 goals in 320 appearances in his first stint at Arsenal FC. Henry who spent 8 years in North London, won 2 Premier League titles and 3 FA Cups with Arsenal FC. He recently had a Bronze Stature of himself unveiled in recognition of his contributions to Arsenal Football Club. |
@ MAYOWAAK, i agree with you. |
^^ @ 4 play. No one is saying we know better than them. Of which we may but it seems we just dont know how to do things right by ourselves. Coming to the issue, the behavioural pattern (how they reason, how they behave and the mindset) of the people in the West and Nigeria is different. That is why a policy that works perfectly there will not work here. That is what they have failed to understand. |
There is a grand conspiracy by the FG under Pres. Jonathan and the Western Financial Institutions with the way this subsidy removal is being forced down our throats. If you notice since Pres. Jonathan mounted the saddle both in acting capacity and as the main man, Nigeria's Foreign Debt has tremendously increased and its Foreign Reserve has been severely depleted. That is why in a bid for Pres. Jonathan to cover his tracks, they need to implement this policy without delay. |
On Fuel subsidy removal, our government introduces policies, laws, rules & regulations without considering the behavioural pattern of Nigerians. They would introduce policies that are suitable for people in Europe and America to Nigeria where we have different Tribes, Regions, Cultures and ways of life. A place where people make decisions based on Religon and silly sentiments caused by hardship and suffering caused by the same Governments. Overseas, they conduct researchs and studies to know how the people will react to things before its implementation but in Nigeria, Government & its Agencies just impose policies and laws without putting the behavioural patterns of its people (how they think, how they behave in certain conditions and how they react to issues) into consideration that is why it is always hard for Nigerians to adhere to Policies & follow laid down rules and regulations. For example in a case where a road is bad and the Govt. which is thier responsibility, fails to repair the road and we all know its against the law to take the lane for motorist in the opposite direction (One-Way) but you see The Police, Army and Govt. Officials taking the lane. When you see those that made the law whose main duty in the first place is to repair broken down portion of roads and enforcers of the law break the law then Other citizens will too will be forced to take the lane but assuming the road is smooth and motorable then there will be no cause whatsoever to follow One-Way. The human brain is always seeks for a way out when somebody is in a tight corner and the solutions could be either right/wrong or legal/illegal depending on the situation. Conclusion- Fuel Subsidy removal is a good policy because it puts an end to the business of oil marketers robbing us blind thereby blocking wastages which in turn makes more money available for the Government to provide basic infrastructure social amenities & help improve the economy but unfortunately it also frees up more money for corrupt minds whom are roaming the streets looking for an opportunity to loot these funds. In the long run, this policy is bound to fail or it will take longer than expected before it starts to yield the dividends it was created for because Fuel Subsidy is not Nigeria's problem but CORRUPTION and sadly strategies to tackle it is still not being discussed. |
Corruption as you all know is the biggest problem Nigeria is facing. It has ensured that nothing works in Nigeria and has made majority of Nigerians poor despite the abundance of Crude oil and natural resources. Our leaders past and present have all tried to overcome it with the creation of Anti-corruption agencies like EFCC & ICPC. Though they have been able to drag some big names to court and even succeded in trying them but they have not been able to put them behind bars and haven't been able to compel them to return the stolen funds therefor the introduction of these agencies have done little to eradicate corruption. It is reported that 90% of Nigerians live under $1 per day because of this situation many Nigerians have been pushed to the wall and would therefore do anything to make money whether legal or illegal. Corruption in Nigeria is now psychological. We see our public officers who were nothing before getting to their respective posts now swimming in sudden wealth which in turn has made the average Nigerian have the mindset that '' If i get to a position of authority , i'll also take my share by looting Nigeria's resources'' so you see it is going to be difficult to eradicate corruption because majority of Nigerians have the tendency to cut corners just to make a living. Therefore, the only solution to corruption in Nigeria is if the 90% of those reported to live on $1 per day start to live on $10 per day. Even if a man chooses not to work and decides to sleep at home all day, he should still get that $10 in the form of welfare. Then minimum wage should not be less than N100,000 though tax deemed reasonable should be collected from the class of people receiving these salaries and those receiving above the minimum wage. By doing this, the urge for Nigerians to make money by crook will reduce, they will not collect bribe, they will discharge their duties effectively and dilligently, N100 will not buy their vote, they will not seek to cut corners at every given opportunity etc. Overall there will be tremendous improvement in the quality of life. Only when this is achieve will corruption cease to be Nigeria's major problem. |
@ noblezone. it is those that have ensured that no government institution is working would also ensure dat money realised from subsidy removal is looted. Do u understand why Nigerians are against this policy? |
^^ I dont mean to join issues wit u. If truly u are in USA then i guess why ure uninformed about the current realities in Nigeria. Are the citizens responsible for the mismanagement of Nigeria's oil money? Nigerians are not lazy. There is no electricity. The cost of powering generators have gone overboard thereby causing people to get laid off. If there is 1 employment opportunity, 2000 will apply for the job. These are just are few points in many u should reason with. |
IMF is concerned about Nigeria repaying its debt hence the support for subsidy. GEJ, Okonjo-Iweala, Sanusi are all IMF muppets. IMF Isnt concerned about the suffering of Nigerians but only their money. The way GEJ is going about this subsidy removal suggets that IMF is the one behind this policy that is why we should resist them. |
Ghana has constant electricity. Does Nigeria?? |
I commend Inspired_m and i dnt mean to derail your thread. Thanks. |
Great insight. Thanks for the tips. But anybody give us tips on how to cope with using our generators since these tips are only meant for cars, increase in the prices of bus fare for does that don't have cars, increase in the costs of food, increase in school fees and general increase in the cost of goods and services? |
Sanusi, the most intelligent man in Nigeria? Thats untrue! Under his leadership he ordered banks to remove all of their off site ATM's, few months later he's instructing the same banks to plant their ATM's back all over the place all in the name of transforming Nigeria into a cashless society. No foresight at all. Didn't he's brain think about that from the onset? Dats the same guy IMF is crowning the most intelligent guy in Nigeria. I see IMF is as clueless as our government. Rubbish!! |
Its ridiculous the way those for a useless party like PDP and those for a party systematically robbing us blind like ACN can come out and support the the wrong doing of these groups of people. The revelations and statistics above just further confirms that there is no difference between our rulers & politicians. They are all a bunch of rogues only thinking about themselves and not their people. We nigerians need to change our mentality of 'Only me & my family' that is only when Nigeria can move in the right direction. |
