Ds, Masters, Bachelors, Professors, nobel laureates, technologists and technicians, competent administrators who are coming together to form a critical mass inventing things in Nigeria, building the infrastructure, expanding international trade, creating rival educational systems to the best in the world, excellent healthcare, a growing and strong military, an effective forward-looking foreign policy, technology, expansive, mechanized agriculture and also given birth to many smart kids to take over, we will be getting a lot more credit.

So, I think the goal of any region SE or otherwise, should be founded on these and ALSO, the right political alliances, bridge-building, diplomacy and open negotiation, that impresses everyone around. In an "educated" country like Nigeria, people can see this and it is enough to influence their voting decision.

No, it can actually produce as many presidents as residents in the state which is > 1 MILLION. But who will vote for even 1 President if you thump your nose at the people you hope to win their votes, alliance and respect?

2. Soludo: He was the governor of the CBN and a Professor. Is that experience he will take to become the president of 150 M people? No need to be sentimental here and while he may be intelligent like a lot of people, there is NO job of such leadership where you are employed to go through an "internship" period. He should go and win a state election, be governor for 8 years, perform creditably well and he is so good to go!

3. Ngige: I have heard good things about him but does he have what it takes to be president? Was he not thrown out of the governorship of Anambra due to less than honest means of getting to the position in the first place? Why not people who at least are known to have gotten the experience to run a state successfully in 8 years? Duke, Fashola, Amaechi?

4. All said, Nigeria can only make true progress when people see beyond tribe and ethnicity. Is it not better for a problem to be solved once and for all and even when you grow old and pass on, you can be sure your children will live in safety and happiness. Why? Because you have created a system of merit, that is guaranteed to work within acceptable limits most of the time. Is that not why a lot of the countries Nigerians like to run to are so prosperous, peaceful, meritorious as against the chaos in Nigeria?
