Are you kidding? Where is your source??

Fellow Nigerians, brothers and sisters:

With the way Nigerian polity is being marred and defined by corruption, tribalism and ethnic bigotry, I ask: When will Nigeria be liberated? When will Nigerians come to realize that one of the most important reasons that America and some other countries are so advanced and progressive is that they care more about your performance, intelligence, your records of achievement and undying love for their countries! When will Nigerians wake-up? All the Nigerians that do us proud at the highest levels in Engineering, Science, Technology, Arts and Humanities in foreign countries get such opportunities because those countries would not care if you are black or green so far as the very best that is available! I can say this with all confidence because I have been one of the most privileged to be in the most advanced field of technology of today and the future and beat every other person from all over the world to land this position! Guess what: everything is paid for but not because they liked my face/skin color -- their own also competed! I have worked with people from everywhere: Russia, US, Canada, China, India, Bangladeh, Pakistan, Mexico - when will you foolish Nigerians stop cutting off your nose to spite your tribalistic faces and poisonous hearts? When will you rise above race and tribe?

Would it be fair to say that ONLY Nigerians who have NEVER left Nigeria or just crossed the border to a different country still have race and tribe as their only motivation and driving force in life? My friends here are from everywhere in Naija and we have vigorous debates but we never discuss tribes? One of my closest friends is from a different tribe and I never even thought about it once!

I just now ordered 3 books from my library from the comfort of my wash room and they will be waiting for me tomorrow at the library. When will Nigerians begin to think of when they will be able to do this in every part of the country? What makes it more interesting is that 2 of the books are totally Nigerian (the Civil War era), books I may have to travel from school (say Uniben) to Lagos to go and BUY! As if that is enough, I can get books from any library in any town and it will be delivered to my library for pick-up, yet Nigerians can not see they are suffering and it is to the advantage of the corrupt leadership in Nigeria that you are fighting over tribes, my race is better than yours, our house is bigger, my generator is newer, my land is closer to the water, my population is the highest in every country, my tribe should produce the next president, my tribes tax is keeping Nigeria in business, the West should join Benin Republic, Cameroun belongs to the East, the middle belt belongs to Hausas and some other tribes, and I can go on and on!!

When will you people begin to talk about progressive ideas like:
-- Your latest invention. For me, I signed off papers on a co-invented product earlier this year, how about you?
-- Android, Iphone, Blackberry, MeeGO, etc will allow you to write apps, what have you done with that?
-- You just attended a premier conference to present some novel ideas, discuss that.
-- I read and hear about weapons of the civil war era sitting at the War Museum in Abia, why hasn't anyone close to that vicinity requested permissions to photograph them, create a prototype and get permissions to advance and manufacture any of those weapons? Nigeria may not become a world power because of it but it is progress!
-- So, you are not technically gifted, well, what about a show that showcases some of those inventions? Video them, take pictures, describe them, etc for documentation sake and put it on the best TV stations in Nigeria for all to see? Don't you people watch Discovery, History and NatGeo?
-- Nigerians have a lot of stuff that could make a show in these days of Pawnathon, old relics, collections, etc, what happened to making a show about that?

Finally, you will notice that most of these ideas have technological and economic value if it is approached right and marketed well. Imagine getting your show created around something local unto History Channel down the line, how do you think countries create positive impressions and attract interest and willing foreign investment not silly governments giving up every advantage of its people and resource so that foreigners can come to make some paltry investment which would be repatriated as soon as money begins to roll in? Or, all you will be contributing to Nigeria is bilious racial hatred, jealousy, tribalism and racism? Well, when Nigeria burns because of your collective effort, I hope you get no visa from even Benin Republic talk less of America.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was Not born in the USA (he was born in Austria) yet he became Governor of California as a naturalized American. The authors point is therefore still valid. As per the thread topic, I think the principle is correct. Any Lagosian can aspire to lead Lagos. Ultimately , when merit becomes the main criteria for securing public office , the issue in the future will hopefully be about getting the best individual for the job rather than a focus on which ethnic group he/she belongs to.

Yes, if Nigerians could get past tribalism and bigotry and vote on MERIT and argue without narrow tribal sentiments, that country would progress tremendously!

Chairman of the Confederated Igbo Indigenes (CII), Lagos State, Prince Anayo Nnama, has said that Igboman would be governor of Lagos State “in the nearest future.” He told Daily Sun:  “As our democracy grows, non indigenes will contest elections in Lagos and win. @Post, I so agree with YOU! It is the VERY same reason why America is the most advanced nation on the planet with people from everywhere and you will feel that you belong. It's only a place like America that would owe more than $14 Tr. in debt yet has not sunk and can come out of it, hopefully no more wars, wars, wars!!!

In some other countries, you could hardly feel or be at home so people just go there, make some money, take and run away with whatever they can get to America. Among other reasons, that is why places like Italy, Greece, Spain, etc, etc will find it hard to take on that kind of debt and survive it! Most people know that some of those countries have so much racism, it is not even worth leaving Naija to go and live there!

If any 10-lane express road is built in Nigeria, I would make every effort to see it and drive on it sef! It's more than time things begin to work and progress made in every part of Naija!!

Wetin I chop is really delicious but the point is do not see every statistic or news as this tribe Vs that tribe.

I like that this thread provides some information about education Nigeria which is good enough on its own. But why is the cut-off point reducing? Down to 170? is less than 50% of the total mark of 400 or is JAMB now over 300?

@South-East, don't start bringing tribes into the conversation. You will distract the discussion when this descends into another unprofitable fight based on racial hatred, bigotry and tribalism. Every statistic represents a Nigerian, that is our present reality, and let that be the basis of discussion -- not your tribe vs other tribes.

I am happy to read something like this and I can't wait to see exactly how people can get more employment, make more money, export farm produce, create industries around whatever this farm grows and if it is food crops, I want some from this farm when next I come to Naija, no kidding!

How did the commissioner know that he was not from Boko Haram? What kind of investigations did the Police do to conclude almost immediately that he is not from Boko Haram? Did they trace who exactly he called and where the person lived in Nigeria? Who are the people associated with them? Or, did the commissioner just say what Hafiz Ringim directed him to say so as not to upset Boko Haram some more? Or is it a gimmick to pretend while they hunt BH? Nonetheless, we will see what happens if any bombs go off near any churches. One thing though is Nigeria Police and entire leadership at every level CANNOT be trusted!

Well, Nigerian leadership would rather steal money than use their brain and energy to emancipate the country from artificial poverty. Almost every square km has some natural resource plus 150M+ able and capable manpower if trained and mentored but NO, they would rather steal money from oil and sell Nigerians on "fresh air", racism and tribalism - something they won't remember when they sit down to share the nation's patrimony!

Fantastic development! Put this FOI law to the test with Jonathan and hope he responds in a timely manner! This is the kind of things Nigerians can use to put a lot of pressure on its leaders to indicate that WE are paying attention to everything that concerns the country -- not the stomach-churning, headache-inducing uselessness of racism and tribalism.
