I wonda why everybody is complaining when the road is still passable! See vehicular and human traffic on the roads for heaven sakes!

In four years time, it would av turn to a ghost/hunted roads then no human will dear to pass it unless you carry jazz!

FRESH AIR!

WE ASKED FOR IT! NOW WE HAVE IT! LETS ENJOY IT WITHOUT COMPLAIN!
LWKMD! Very funny indeed! But seriously, I passed that road in 2009 I think and oh my goodness what a death trap!!?? Oh Lord, let me not pass that road again for anything! I read too that it was fixed after Diezani Madueke was reported to be crying, but alas it was NOT fixed or FIXED and got broken to the exact status before it was fixed?!

Well, me too I shouted to Nigeria not to vote this pinnochio of a man. . .he will NOT do anything but Nigeria want fresh air! The road in front of my house, just a middle class neighborhood, does not come close to the roads inside the city. However, that road is eons ahead of this major Nigerian road! I can reach speeds of 40-50 km / h which exceeds the limit for that road but how will you drive 50km/h on this government forsaken road? When will Nigeria stop all this phoney fresh air nonsense and get something tangible from this dead-walking government of this big-nosed president? But well if Nigeria keep wanting fresh air, we will just have to wait for how long it will last before they realize they are being scammed.

^^^ Be civil and decent instead of playing foolishness with that kind of useless talk! I think rate at which respect for elders is dying in Nigeria is almost directly proportional to the corruption of leadership! Children who have not even 50.5% respect for elders? I have no respect for most Nigerian leaders but when they are sick or dying and I have no good words for them, I would rather pass! Yar'Adua's case was different, very annoying and if he hadn't sought to take the whole country with him down to wherever he was going, most people would have left him alone -- even with some good wishes!
Politics › Re: Take Bribe And Die, Ccb Boss Warns Board Members! by CyberG: 8:17am On Jul 30, 2011
@Post: I did not see where he said "die" in your post or link? Are they supposed to die because of the oath? If Nigerian law does not work and catch people when they break it, any oath of office is totally powerless, no? Or, are expecting supernatural powers to enforce the oath of office taken by people when sworn into public office, yes?
Crime › Re: Child Trafficking In Nigeria by CyberG: 8:03am On Jul 30, 2011
Seannet: Shame on you for your silly comments! Get your head out of looking at everything from tribalism and racism, what do you gain? You are educated (I believe), get a life and stop!

@Post: It is a problem of societal values and backwardness of the Nigerian society foisted by its past leaders and perpetuated by its present crop of leaders! Look, it is painful to anyone not to be able to give birth but how can this problem be solved? Are there ways that it is being solved elsewhere? Yes! Does Nigeria need any new scientific or technological research to make it possible? Not at all! In better societies, to start with, their values are such that you can even chose not to have kids and no one cares! But if you choose to have, what are the options if you don't want to adopt? You can have a surrogate mother and it is perfectly legal and regulated and you will have kids with Fluid donated by the man! If the problem is the man and the woman is fertile, artificial insemination is the way to go and it is perfectly legal! I have met a lady who has a child and that child never had a "father" because she got the Fluid from a Fluid bank and she told me that much! When Nigeria's so called leaders begin to think on how to serve their people, things like this will die a natural death. Otherwise, everyone will seek to help themselves which further perpetuates the lawlessness we have in Nigeria.
Politics › Re: From Yahoo-yahoo To Kidneys For Money? by CyberG: 7:49am On Jul 30, 2011
I have heard stories from my Asian friends of some instances involving non-Africans, in fact a specific case of someone robbed of his kidneys - very terrible. He picked up a babe at a party who was working for a cartel, got drunk / drugged and ended up in the bed room with the babe. Before the morning and before he could be found, the criminals behind the set-up came in, put him in a bath of ice, sliced him up and took away his kidneys!! Here is my take: For a Nigerian who will travel to anywhere to sell his kidney or any part of his body for 10M has no other reasons beyond: ignorance, total lack of education or enlightenment, hopelessness in his immediate and remote future all leading to poverty of the mind and body! This situation is created and perpetuated by the state of the Nigerian society where most of the resources of the society has been stolen and continually plundered for the richest who cannot stop feathering their own nests. At the end of the day, it is a leadership and societal values problem.

When someone is ignorant and totally uneducated or enlightened, he would be deceived with the promise of a better life easily "abroad". He will not ask HOW and WHAT he will do to get all the things he is being told in such a short time! I am sure that someone so poor, to start with, can never afford to travel to Malaysia by himself! Someone would sell him the idea and deceive him and by the time he gets there, it is too late! (Similar reasons are applicable for people languishing in foreign jails due to transporting illegal drugs across international boundaries). He will be killed if he tries to escape and his organs stolen nonetheless. I hope people can direct their attention to the kind of people who "lead" Nigerians: an ignorant, totally uneducated or unenlightened and hopeless person in Nigeria is a pawn marked for death or exploitation outside Nigeria and places like Malaysia of all places. Even their cops can not and will not save you because the mafia that control this kind of operations are extremely powerful have the highest level of their law enforcement in their back pockets. Well if it were America or similar countries, there will be a lot of hope to survive if he could escape long enough to find a cop or someone to get it to the authorities. In places like Malaysia, Thailand, China, etc; you'd have to pay with your kidney or your life. Your coming there was someone's investment and they will get their investment back with a profit!

Well, they will have to pay for the damages now. Kai, the days of "aluta" and congress at Amphi, Ife! I think addressing the people involved would be a better strategy not burning your school bus and buildings. Simply, now they will have to pay more.
Politics › Re: Jonathan Denies Initiating Single-term Plan by CyberG: 1:59am On Jul 29, 2011
@Post. . .Jonathan will make even Yar'Adua look like Einstein, yes the same Albert you know, by the time Nigerians wake up from their perpetual slumber! Just yesterday, my concern about the way things were going is when will Nigerians begin to hold this man accountable and I gave the example of a clueless driver hired to drive for 4 years. Will you go to sleep while your clueless driver rail-roads you to the dungeon where there is no U-turn and the sun never shines again? See: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=722468.msg8804529#msg8804529.

Jonathan will accomplish exactly the success he recorded since being tapped into politics back in 1999: NOTHING! Even if you wait for another 8 years! When will Nigeria put enough daily pressure on him? I mean pressure from every angle: on the streets of Abuja, Lagos, Umuahia, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Kafanchan and Kutuwenji? The people of Igbomina, Saki, Nkwerre, Ngbidi, Oke Iho and the remotest hamlets of Bayelsa should get no rest or sleep until this driver gets everyone to the destination we desire as a nation! This is not a 20:2020 pipe dream that has been postponed since the days of Vision 2000 and MDG! Let the pressure increase on him from all the online gladiators, commentators, facebook junkies, twitter, student, market women, employed or not, old and young until this Jonathan begins to do something for this country! Countries don't become advanced by selecting useless leaders without an iota of any idea even if it slammed them upside his head!

Jonathan appointed ministers who will steal, loot, do nothing and yet get salaries like it has been since the days of Obasanjo! Some did well, but that is not enough and we must press them at every turn until a better, egalitarian society is built and sustained. If Jonathan wanted to solve only one problem, let him do it ASAP not long useless stories and cliches that has scammed Nigeria till date! If it is power he wants to fix, let him literally follow his minister and walk to the place where the turnbines will be bought (I hear there are some rotting away at the wharf in Lagos), trek and follow it until it lands on the site, and no one will sleep for every hour until the foundation is laid, turbines are installed, piping, cabling, infrastructure and everything needed from generation, to transmission to distribution is completed and we can actually see light! Then, we will not care about promises of MW or KW and productive and smart Nigerians from every corner can have an environment to create businesses, manufacture things, live a more decent life, sleep at home and wake-up strong and fresh for another day!

Apply the same principle to power. If you must sell the refineries, do it already with hard targets that MUST be accomplished so only tried and tested companies with records of success gets to buy and manage such infrastructure and must be sold at a very competitive price not give it away at a token! In parallel, devolve power so that FAT useless federal government can stop holding everyone down into a true federalism for states to govern. Delete that incompetent NPF and create state police and let the states compete on every ground and control their resources. That useless Federal Character is one the most useless things that ever happened to Nigeria, delete it and let people travel anywhere they wish to reside and get residency there without the useless state of origin and quota system. If northerners, any one wants to be free and educated, let him be free to travel to the south to get education and not be tied down with useless ignorance. If any southerners have competitive incentives to work or school in a school in the north, let him be able to go there and make a difference in his community and Nigeria. By the time you have done only these few things, Nigeria at least will be on a different path of destiny and not all this useless speeches of U-turn, buck-passing, blame-gaming and lootocratic governance.

Finally, I wish Nigerians will wake up and do something fast! I wish I could but can not give any details of what things people are doing here, I mean that I am doing here! At the rate Nigeria is going, it will take 10 centuries (1000 years) before anything like it will get to Nigeria. If it eventually does, where will be the manpower to teach, research and develop it? Where are the knowledgeable people in Nigeria who can be employed? Oyinbo is not waiting and while we sell oil and wait for them to give money for some "development" project in Africa, these people are going so fast now, you'd think they were last! Goodluck, now you have shoes and more so no excuses, start acting fast because I (like a lot of other Nigerians) am VERY tired and sick of all this useless nonsense!! angry angry angry
Politics › Re: Ojukwu On Life Support And In Critical Condition by CyberG: 6:03am On Jul 28, 2011
Negro_Ntns: Yes, it's good you realize he should get a good sleep. You too should get some but when you wake-up, put your attention to how Nigeria will not only get all those infrastructure back but much better in quality and quantity than it ever had! We already know all the stories of the past so while it is kind that you'd like to tell me and others a lot about it, there is already ample documentation of it.

Now, let us focus our energies and time on doing better than our best ever! The countries we live in (I don't know where you live) are working so hard to increase the distance between them and us in ever way as we speak and I am in one of such facilities right now, like a lot of other Nigerians in places across the world. Take the high road, set a better example, then you can hold others to that same standard and our "leaders" to a higher standard. Hope you understand and look, if you would rather discuss your latest ideas, inventions, opinions or products you are working on, that would be something I would stay up all night to read about. On that, my ears can never be full and I will tell you a good number of interesting inventions, ideas and proposals I have also completed recently.
Politics › Re: Ojukwu On Life Support And In Critical Condition by CyberG: 5:31am On Jul 28, 2011
I wish Ojukwu well! It is wrong by all means to make fun of a person in a situation like this, whether big and influential or small and obscure! Like I said before, it is pathetic that all you racists, tribalists and ethnocentric bigots could do is to take shots at each other based on tribe! I will take some liberty to re-post from a very recent post of mine to racists, tribalists and small-minded bigots:

"In all of your life, it is hate, death, blood, killing, I-am-better-than-you-because-of-tribe, when do you have time to think or do something productive? Well, if you did all I listed up there, and you still had any of this bilious racial hate, you achieve or attain nothing! I can go on and on but I know that a dog destined to be eternally lost will not listen to the voice of his master. You can make the difference: take the high road, it is the best road you will ever find or tread. You will see much farther than the midgets who only pride themselves on their race/tribe/ethnicity. If you can't do this with your country men, how will you function if you work in a team of people from 10-20 different countries? Will you look down on all of them? Will they look down on you because of your race? You will be a misfit and an utter failure at everything in life if your entire life is premised on racial hatred and ethnic war and thoughts of all this nonsense! Please get a real life! Write about your latest inventions! Debate on your new proposals and how it will bring 10 million people out of poverty in the next 2 years! Write about the professional conference you attended last month and your bold, audacious and unprecedented ideas that wowed the audience! Write about you volunteering activities, even when people did not appreciate it at the beginning! Write and debate challenges you have faced proving yourself at a difficult task and how everyone later came to respect you for your success! See how much better you'd feel and how much refreshing conversations you can have with people! Get off this life of hatred because it brings death to you and all the people who have to put up with it because you murder their spirits silently!"

Why can't you people be mad that the useless governments of Nigeria have provided no healthcare facilities for its people? Even shameless Yaradua was being carried from Germany to Saudi until he kicked the bucket, yet this foolish government has not done anything for Nigerians, yet no one is talking!! I tell you what and this will not be a new story to those who live in progressive societies: A brand new hospital (not some tiny clinic or hospital) was completed late last year for WOMEN ONLY just a few minutes walk from my house! Not for men! Not for kids - they have their own SPECIAL hospital! This is not the only one as there is even a bigger one in the same city! Useless do-nothing Nigerian tribalists and racists will bring their bigoted wives to come and give birth to children who will only turn out as tribalists - like YOU! For goodness sakes, why can't Nigerians when they grow old have good healthcare in their own city and be with their families in peace when and if they pass! You blind racists will be in this exact conditions years from now and guess what? Your children would have learned nothing from you but gloating over you and taking shots at each other! Next, their own children will do the same to them! Has no one any atom of wisdom or sense in their coconut heads?! Did none of you read that "the fathers ate the sour grapes and the children's teeth are now set on edge"? (Paraphrase).

Who of you loves sour grapes, will prefer it to sweet oranges or water melons or bananas? But NO, your OWN fathers ate sour grapes and NOW, it's your turn, your teeth is set on edge! How will EVIL and backwardness depart from that hell hole of a country if all you idiots prolong this fvcking (apologies) curse by eating the poison that killed a generation of humans and has devastated  your own present country and your children have no chance of experiencing the good times of the 50s as told by people who lived then? Anyone who posts any of this racial and useless madness again would only bring curses on their heads because you suffer your fellow man in your co-owned land! You fear not God, you fear not man nor the fair rules of existence, do you want EVIL to devour your souls? I am and everyone who like justice, fairness, equity and believes in humanity is sick of RACISM, TRIBALISM and YOUR BIGOTRY!

When will you make progress in your life if you invest your life in the uselessness that did not profit your forebears?! Nigeria does not and can not make progress because you have refused to do the things that make for progress. You slow others in your family down and if all of you live this life of evil, you will see no good come! Two hateful families in a small community slow the entire community down, one community with racial bias and evil in their blood slow down the entire village! A God-forsaken village in a town slows down the entire town, one or two towns with bigoted, unprogressive small-minded people slow down the entire state! And yet you blame your corrupt governor? No, you should be blamed first because people like you turned out to be the governor! Many governors and useless leaders like these is why Nigeria is a fat JOKE of a country! Yet you revel in this shame and have time to use the internet to assert racial supremacy!?

Are you the so-called graduates and generation that will lead Nigeria? I think not because if you spent only half of the time you spend here working on some project on the same internet, you would make more progress! You will have more ideas and have time to work on those ideas! Where is your new app for the Iphone/blackberry you cradle with glee? You can never have one, you argue on race but wait for America to create an app so you can download for free, pirate or for .99 cents only to go back to curse another tribe! When will you contribute anything positive to humanity? In a 100 years after your are long gone, will someone Google your name to find out you contributed something to their generation or they will only find out your bilious racial hatred every time they search your name or ID? After you read this, know that if everyone chooses to do something useful, tribalism will die a natural death in Nigeria and that place will progress tremendously! No light, no security, militancy, no healthcare, etc will be a thing of the past. So, I don't care if you are Ibo/Yoruba/Hausa/Kanuri/Idoma etc. . .do something with your life or Nigeria will be more useless by the time you die and your children will only curse you and the silly leaders who confused your coconut heads with only tribalism, racism, ethnocentrism!
Politics › Re: Nigerians Need To Vote Everyday Non-stop Rather Than Every 4 Years by CyberG: 4:35am On Jul 28, 2011
Sounds like a very good idea but only if it can be implemented. . .especially in a place like Nigeria! It could be a model for other countries or systems in itself and I agree with almost most of the advantages you gave in your post. If there was power to light-up the electronic ballot stations 24X7, the computers and infrastructure that backs this service, security from manipulation and some-fool proof way to guarantees that it cannot be compromised, will not be compromised without immediate grave penalties, it could be an unprecedented system of running a democracy!
Politics › Re: IBB Calls For Creation Of State Police To Fight Terrorism by CyberG: 4:29am On Jul 28, 2011
Babangida is as evil minded a leader as they come. . .however, I have to agree with this suggestion. GEJ should be working very fast on creating structures like this for Nigeria! Use the appropriate instruments of governance and create a State Police Force like the countries we all like to reference operate. Free up some of the useless bureacracy and power in Abuja to be used where it is needed not Ringim putting traffic wardens in a cell for voicing a honest opinion. In better climes, he would not even qualify to be anything let alone IGP due to his total ineptitude of the organization he claims to lead!

Politics › The Nigerian Dream! by CyberG(op): 3:58am On Jul 28, 2011
American founding and past leaders dreamed with their eyes opened for their unborn generations! Today, everyone from India, China, Nigeria, Canada, Mexico, etc would do almost anything for a short at the reality of that dream! Stay with me and focus on the dream (and yes, I am aware of the wars, debt, political backa-backa), but this dream has been achieved, is being achieved and will still be achieved tomorrow by Americans! Yes? My question:

What is the Nigerian Dream?

If there is nothing of such, when will Nigeria and its leaders begin to work on creating something for the generations unborn to aspire to?
Politics › Re: How Long Will Nigerians Wait Before They Begin To Hold Gej Accountable? by CyberG(op): 3:49am On Jul 28, 2011
Yes Becomerich. . .I agree with you! This is the issue that is bothering me and should bother everyone more seriously! How can our parents tell stories of the 50s, 60s, 70s and even 80s saying Nigeria was good, this and that but with all the advancement in the whole world now, Nigeria is worse than 60 years ago? If he has no clue as he does appear, it is enough reason to never leave him alone! Can anyone imagine being in a car (your own car) driven by someone who has no clue, well paid and for 4 years and you go to sleep because you already hired him for the job? Koboj, Becomerich, Ileke and a lot of passionate people do not have problems of power failure (plenty in Nigeria), healthcare (not working), security (not available), education (not affordable, not possible), transportation (too expensive), food (too costly, stale), pollution from generator and smoke (overwhelming), progressive society (not applicable), and I can go on and on yet they are more fired-up than Nigerians that live and breathe Nigerian air everyday! This is where we (Nigerians) should focus ALL of our energies before this government takes us nowhere in 4 or 8 years! Over here, for all the efforts of our leaders who do quite some work and miles ahead of Nigerian leaders, they cannot breathe for the pressure they are under everyday. No wonder their society is progressing and Nigeria needs this IMMEDIATELY not waiting for 20:2020 or 2015 or tenure elongation!
Politics › Re: How Long Will Nigerians Wait Before They Begin To Hold Gej Accountable? by CyberG(op): 3:25am On Jul 28, 2011
@Kobo. . .yes, I agree it is more than 3 months and that is why I put "(new)" in the post. . .just for ardent defenders can at least reason that not even counting his past failures and non-performance, what about NOW? There is no excuse for anyone employed for any job he is supposedly qualified for to still be "interning" or "on the job training" after over 1 year!

@Johndoe: You don't understand that I am not against that he was "elected". . .but being held accountable to that mandate he was given by "election". Every serious president and progressive society knows that governance is not merely being left alone to do something or anything! The first 3 months is enough to set some concrete agenda which would be pursued so vigorously in the next 1 year and beyond! Do you know that even a mere graduate student will be put to his paces in less than 3 months after he joins a research group? And guess what? He will have to answer very tough questions about his work, results and failures not next year but almost on an on-going weekly/bi-weekly basis. Why should the president who sets the agenda and governs over 150+ million people be different? Where do you live by the way?

The problems in Nigeria are very simple basic questions that can be solved without any new engineering or scientific discovery or research! If the government (through private sector investment, or public or partnership) wants to light up the whole of Nigeria, generate electricity, distribute, bill, etc, there is nothing difficult because it has been done so much everywhere else. Turbines, transformers, gas, etc when assembled and powered will deliver light and a meter will bill it, no? Why can't measurable and achievable objectives be set and achieved in a year or less and then you can say in 2, 3 or X years Y and Z will be done!? Same goes for gas (petrol), then growing and enabling an industrial economy. What does Nigeria need? Human beings with brains? There are millions of them here. . .paid fat by other countries and trained extremely well to use their brains to solve real problems here. What will Jonathan do about it NOW? Not tomorrow.

Going on FB is totally useless, what if Zuckerberg did not create FB? FB runs on computers, powered by electricity and software written by human beings, some Nigerians! What will Jonathan do, in real terms, not campaign promises NOW to ensure the next great idea is birthed in an enabling environment called Nigeria? We need real progress and by waiting and waiting for an industrial economy in 20:10000 without any progress in 2011:NOW, its a total JOKE and waste of time. I wish NL, and the streets of Lagos, Abuja, PH, Enugu, Sokoto, Kano, Jos, Kaduna, Bayelsa and their corridors of power will be filled with this kind of discussion, conversation and negotiations for real progress! If we are not careful, even the youngest Nigerian will not inherit anything from their parents / country if we keep "leaving him alone". We just CANNOT leave him alone for 4 years!!

Obasanjo. . .retire from politics! Must your ideologies or party ideologies continually (do or die) ruin this country before you leave? I wish Nigeria does not have anything to do with you anymore because you had many chances to change this country but you refused! Instead, you became a billionaire in dollars, corrupted the land and midwifed the current rot we see! Please stay home and don't come here again!

Racists and tribalists chino, ak47mann, kasiem and the rest are a disgrace to their family and themselves! I guess you learned nothing from your parents than tribalistic and racial hatred and will teach same to your children! Old men like you should hang your coconut heads in shame. What do you gain from racial hatred and tribalism? How much does it pay you? What have you contributed to this world positively except hate, hate and more hate!!! You and the rest whether Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa or anyone else are not better than the other if all you do in your pathetic lives is to hate because of tribe or race! Not that you have just proposed a new solution to a complex human problem, equation or created the device/technology of the next generation! It is not that you have attained revolutionary breakthroughs in science/medicine/engineering/arts or published a paper that contains an idea recognised worldwide! If you did any of those and someone or anyone cannot see such significant contributions, perhaps you could make serious comments based on those facts!

But no! In all of your life, it is hate, death, blood, killing, I-am-better-than-you-because-of-tribe, when do you have time to think or do something productive? I remember in the days of Yar'Adua, there was a lot of debate about his governance, failures, 7 point agenda, Vision 20:2020, rule of law, etc almost throughout his ill-fated presidency. So, GEJ is ~3 months into his (new) tenure and he has not cut the image of a president that will accomplish anything significant except extend his tenure, promote insecurity by doing nothing or best pacifying the radical elements, accumulate IOUs he cannot pay and leave Nigeria no better than he met it. So I ask, when will Nigerians begin to ask very serious questions from this guy? Will people wait for 4 years until he comes to tell you stories of waiting for another 4 years before you can get power, good healthcare, security, recover some pride to be Nigerian, diversify and grow the economy, etc, etc? Right now, he wants a third term by subterfuge and that old fox and minister of propaganda Abati is already helping him to oil and spin the propaganda he needs to unleash his "Fresh Air" on you Nigerians? Nigerians, you have the better of 4 years to act now to influence governance and demand accountability from this guy before he pulls another scam on you!

Can you imagine living in a society where every other person you meet is from a different country, tribe, tongue? I know your bigoted brain cannot fathom that and people like you are the reason Nigeria will never work even if it is broken into 150 million other countries.

It is very stupi.d of you and that old fool Ezeuche spend all your life on tribalism and racism! How annoying and yes, regardless of whatever tribes Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa/all the others in Nigeria, it is only fools whose sole purpose is to approach issues on tribalistic grounds and Ezeuche, you and a lot of pathetic low lifes muddle intelligent discourse with this uselessness! Your fathers and grandfathers did the same, what did they or you gain? You must be very foolish!

People like you have never done anything useful for humanity except complain and cry for entitlement only on tribal sentiments! You call me "Yoruba"? You're a fool again! I have been and lived in Imo, then I have been spent considerable time in Anambra, Enugu, Abia. Not only that I have lived in Benin, been to most states of the South East and most normal people there would be ashamed of you! My dad was in the force and his orderly was with him was from Anambra state and what a good man he was! He would be ashamed of you. . .and he was transferred anywhere my dad was throughout their career until their last minute! I mention no names! He was not the only one and yes they were Igbo and the relationships I talk about could not be better! That is why people like you and Ezeuche have no place among decent Igbos and I make no excuses for Yoruba or Hausa or any tribes! How many states have you lived or visited in Nigeria? Millions of people have died and been killed on this uselessness and this is the best examples you all can give to your children? You are a fool and don't try this racist and tribalist BS with me because not everyone is a pig like you!

Ezeuche, I used to contribute a lot in politics but these days only watch from the sidelines but I tell you what: you are either very stupid or unable to objectively assess situations! Imagine reading and knowing all the calamities that has befallen Nigeria and still continuing today, you are one of the most ardent tribalists and racist on this website. People like you and others (who know themselves) are the reason why so much blood has been shed in Nigeria. Your only contribution is always along tribal lines and when Nigeria burns to the ground because of all this tribal madness, will you be satisfied? As old as you are, you should be very ashamed of yourself!

@Topic, I am very saddened when I read about the killings of so many Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas and every other tribes. Nigeria will one day be divided to make progress and live peacefully.

The intent of this posting is to juxtapose Nigeria's treatment of its citizens (human beings) with how animals (even pests in your backyard as in this case) are treated elsewhere! Well, someone bumped some racoons with a shovel and he almost was staring down a 2 year sentence for this offense including one baby raccoon suffering a broken toe. Even I myself and some others find this interesting but can you imagine if killing a lizard in Nigeria was taken this seriously? Read the story. . .

Crown seeking lighter charges in Toronto raccoon beating case

TORONTO - The Crown is pursuing lighter charges than it could potentially seek against a Toronto man who allegedly beat a family of raccoons in his backyard.

Dong Nguyen faces charges of animal cruelty and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with an alleged attack on the raccoons in the garden of his west-end home last month.

Crown lawyers told court Wednesday they are choosing to move forward with the charges as summary offences rather than indictable charges.

Indictable offences would allow for greater punishment, including a maximum sentence of up to 10 years for the weapon charge.

Nguyen, 53, could serve a sentence of no more than 18 months if convicted of animal cruelty.

His next court date is set for Aug. 18. Nguyen did not appear in court Wednesday.

Camille Labchuk, spokeswoman with Lawyers for Animal Welfare, said the Crown should have stuck with indictable charges.

"Animal cruelty cases should generally be pursued to the full extent of the law to provide that deterrent factor and protect human public safety . . . given the strong link between animal violence and human violence," she said.

But such charges rarely result in a conviction since the Crown must prove a high level of intent to harm animals, she added.

"That often works against animals when trying to prosecute those who have committed cruelty against (animals)," said Labchuk.

Police were called early on the morning of June 1 after neighbours awoke to the sounds of a man allegedly attacking a family of raccoons with a shovel.

Animal services says one baby raccoon suffered some broken toes and was taken to a wildlife rehabilitation centre to recover.

Police don't know what happened to the other babies because the mother raccoon took them away.

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. An earlier version incorrectly reported that Ngyuen could serve a two-year sentence for animal cruelty

Drought is killing whole countries (Somalia, Ethiopia. . .) at ~10/day while Nigeria is swimming in this incredible resource! I wonder if this can be processed and exported in any kind of way? Yes, it must be absolutely impossible to lay a pipeline of water to East Africa or fly it by airplanes but if there was technology to upload the water into the atmosphere and download it in East Africa for a fee? That would be a lot of foreign exchange for Lagos and other parts of Nigeria! grin grin
Politics › South Sudan Becomes World's Newest Nation by CyberG(op): 4:09am On Jul 09, 2011
JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — South Sudan became the world's newest nation early Saturday, officially breaking away from Sudan after two civil wars over five decades that cost the lives of millions.

In the new country's capital, Juba, streets pulsed with excitement. Residents danced, banged on jerry cans and chanted the name of the world's newest president, Salva Kiir. One man kneeled and kissed the ground as a group ran through the streets singing "We will never, never, never surrender."

"Ah, I'm free," said Daniel Deng, a 27-year-old police officer and former soldier who broke out in a wide grin.

The Republic of South Sudan earned independence at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, breaking Africa's largest country in two. It marked the culmination of a January independence vote, which was guaranteed in a 2005 peace deal that ended the most recent north-south war.

After the celebrations die down, residents of South Sudan face an uphill climb. While the new country is oil-rich, it is one of the poorest and least-developed places on Earth. Unresolved problems between the south and its former foe to the north could mean new conflict along the new international border, advocates and diplomats warn.

Saturday's early morning celebrations were joyous for the freedom gained but tinged with the memories of family lost. At least 2 million people were killed in Sudan's last civil war, fought from 1983-2005.

"I came here for this moment," said Chol Allen, a 32-year-old minister who escaped Sudan in 2003 and eventually settled in Memphis, Tennessee. He returned to Juba two months ago for the midnight party, though he plans to go back to the U.S., where he has a 4-year-old daughter.

"We were all born into war. All of us," he said, then pointed at a crowded pick-up truck of youngsters. "This generation will see the hope of the newborn nation."

John Kuach, a former child soldier who joined the army after his father died in fighting with the north, first fought at age 15. At dinner late Friday, he draped the South Sudan flag around his shoulders and called Saturday "a big day."

"But some people are not happy because we lost heroes, those who were supposed to be in this celebration. So we are thinking, 'Is this true? Is this a dream? A new country?'"

The internationally brokered 2005 peace deal that ended more than two decades of north-south war expires at midnight Friday. That's when Sudan — which South Sudan is breaking away from — officially recognized the new country.

South Sudan is expected to become the 193rd country recognized by the United Nations next week and the 54th U.N. member state in Africa.

Later Saturday, world leaders will attend a celebratory ceremony. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon already has arrived. Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell also will attend, as will Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, whose country already has recognized South Sudan.

The young government faces the huge challenge of reforming its bloated and often predatory army, diversifying its oil-based economy, and deciding how political power will be distributed among the dozens of ethnic and military factions. It must also begin delivering basic needs such as education, health services, water and electricity to its more than 8 million citizens.

Abdule Taban wore a wide smile during the night's street party, but the 25-year-old was also reflective.

"In independence we are going to have hospitals and schools and a lot of development around here. Our mothers and sisters died in the past. Hospitals were very far from us," said Taban, as South Sudanese dusted in white cow dung — a traditional camouflage here — danced around him.

A draft constitution passed this week lays the groundwork for the president and legislators, who were elected last year, to serve out their five-year terms. The legislature's few opposition lawmakers are unhappy with the draft, but it now serves as an interim constitution until multiparty elections are held.

A $1 billion yearly U.N. peacekeeping mission with a 10,000-member peacekeeping force has monitored implementation of the 2005 peace deal. The mission has drawn criticism for its failure to protect Sudanese civilians caught in violence along the north-south border and in the south, where conflict has killed nearly 2,400 people this year alone.

The U.N. Security Council on Friday unanimously approved a new peacekeeping force for South Sudan, authorizing the deployment of up to 7,000 military personnel and 900 international police, plus an unspecified number of U.N. civilian staff including human rights experts.

The Obama administration has devoted considerable time to ensuring the fragile peace deal holds.

With the raising of South Sudan's flag in the world's newest capital, Juba, the international community may breathe a collective sigh of relief that independence has been reached. Al-Bashir has pledged to accept losing about one-third of his country's territory, an area that contains valuable oil fields.

But relations between the two already are looking bleak, with hostilities raging between northern troops and southern-allied forces in a northern border state, a tense stalemate over another disputed border zone, and a breakdown in negotiations this week over the future of Sudan's oil industry.

While South Sudan is now expected to control of more than 75 percent of what was Sudan's daily oil production, it has no refineries and southern oil must flow through the north's pipelines to reach market.

North-south negotiations under way in the Ethiopian capital this week broke down over disputes between the two sides over how to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Nuba Mountains region in northern Sudan, where black Africans from the Nuba tribe have taken to caves to take shelter from aerial bombing by the northern army in the past month.

Western diplomats say hostilities in that area have stymied efforts to resolve other critical outstanding issues between the governments. Princeton Lyman, the U.S. envoy to Sudan, said Friday that relations between the south and north will be "strained and a little rocky."

"I don't expect that these countries are going to love each other but I do think they are bound up in each other," he said, citing the dependence north and south have on each other for trade and especially oil, which is the lifeblood of the economies of both governments.

Oil has been a major sticking point at the negotiating table, and tensions worsened after the northern army's seizure of the disputed zone of Abyei in May.

Despite calls from the Security Council and others to remove its troops from Abyei after they displaced about 100,000 residents, the Sudanese Armed Forces continue to occupy the Texas-sized territory.

The 1,300-mile (2,100-kilometer) border is disputed in five areas, several of which are being illegally occupied by either northern or southern troops.

"Everyone is for peace in and between Sudan and South Sudan," said John Prendergast, founder of the Washington-based Enough Project.

"It is clear that as long as the government of Sudan can without consequence militarily occupy Abyei, bomb the Nuba Mountains, continue military operations in Darfur, and support militias in southern Sudan, then there will be no peace," said Prendergast, who urged the U.S. government to work with allies to create "significant costs for ongoing human rights abuses and broken agreements."
