Sir do you even know the meaning of brainwash?

ideaz:

I respond to you not so much as about you but about those who think you really know something. You want evidence of the existence of Jesus without The Bible? Here is a very simple one - What is today's date and when were you born? If you can answer that then you already have not only a proof but an incredible significance of the existence of Jesus Christ.

Why is this year 2013 since the world had been millions or billions of years according to undeniable facts of science? Is the world really 2013 years old? Certainly Not!
You do not need too much research to see that Jesus Christ is the fulcrum of all existence. He is not a politician yet the time of this world revolves around Him - his Birth (BC) and Death (AD).

A word is enough for the wise.

Going by your logic

Thor is the fulcrum of existence because today is Thursday (I bet you don't know that today was named after Thor, the son of Almighty Odin)

The fact that ancient Romans and Greeks choose to start counting days from the date of birth of the Jewish carpenter they turned to their god and Europeans who later adopted their religion and enforced it on their conquered lands doesn't mean that any dead jew is the fulcrum of any existence anywhere .

Don't just read your bible and stop. Go on ahead and read about the history of the origins of your Bible and Christianity.

I was a deeper lifer for few years before I left. All they do is divert your all your focus and energy from what really matters about your life to future imaginary life in heaven. That's why staunch deeper lifers are only heavenly good but no earthly value.

Wake up, my people. Don't let religion fool you. Even the oyinbo men who gave you Christianity and Islam have moved on and refused to let those ancient mythologies tie them down to the past. All the heaven and hell you will ever experience is here on earth. So quit the fantasy and dreams of imaginary second life and stop mortgaging your real life for the unreal.

I pity the future of Africa. The slave masters who gave them their religion has moved on advanced their nation, we are here fighting over the imaginary gods of the Jews and Arabs. Such a shame.

And this is why naira land is gradually losing it's allure. Seun has been patronizing these islamists too much. I don't know if he fears them or if he's just deliberately oblivious what nairaland is gradually turning to.

As for me, I decided that I don't want to be in a place like lran, run by some ayatollahs, where freedom of speech is denied to favor religious bigots; and this is what nairaland is gradually turning to. I have reduced my participation to almost zero. I'm just wishing for a competing forum like nairaland to surface and I'll just port away finally from here

@ Godvilla,

I will be an ingrate if i didn't express my gratitude to Godvilla for these two wonderful apps I am currently enjoying from his upload on this thread.
1. Kii keyboard: Never knew that a keyboard could be this much much better than stock keyboard. I have used several keyboard, including swiftkey, before. But this keyboard is simply the best pf them all.
2. Moon+ reader: Meeenn!! If you are an ebook lover and reader like myself, this app is all you will ever need. Believe me. It reads and organises your ebooks (pdf, epub, mobi etc etc) brilliantly and makes your reading a pleasurable experience.

Android is the best platform of all.

Godvilla, you too much.

You will never see a Samsung user shouting about about how their phones is doing better than other brands.

It's only Tecno people with their inferiority complex that will be shouting here and there and comparing their cheap plastics with every other brands.
Religion / Re: Where Do You Rank In The Scale Of Belief In God? by cyrexx: 1:35pm On Oct 15, 2013
I am number 6.5 and I will briefly explain why.

In terms of knowledge, I am no 6: I do not know everything there is to know about the universe to totally rule out the probability of a God or Gods (however tiny little that probability is), probably scientific discoveries of the future may conclusively prove that God exists (But I don't think so, since the God of the gaps is losing more ground with more scientific discoveries)

In terms of belief, I am number 7. From all the knowledge we have at our disposal now and all the religions that lay claim to the knowledge of God. I believe that God (particularly Christian and Islamic God) is just a giant make-believe. I strongly believe He doesn't exist in reality outside his believers' minds.

In summary, I presently and strongly BELIEVE that God or Gods do not exist, but I am open to new discoveries or evidences that may prove me wrong as I do not claim to KNOW everything there is to know about our universe.

striktlymi:

Because unlike your non-existent 'state', you are conscious and awake to the 'harsh' reality of leaving behind everything you hold dear.

So you would like to believe, or so did your holy books told you but unfortunately THAT'S NOT TRUE. All your consciousness, memory and everything you know is located in your brain, and when your brain dies and decays, so goes your memory, consciousness and everything you know about your lifetime. And there is no concrete evidence that consciousness survives brain death and decay.

This thread is about giving personal opinion about death and our opinions may not all agree. Let's not debate that on this particular thread. Let's just state our opinions and move on, shall we?

Hmmmm,

What if scientific breakthroughs enabled humans to live healthy as long as they desired and they can choose to end their lives whenever they felt they've had enough? (I believe it's possible. It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when)

What if that breakthrough occured in our lifetime.

I shared the same sentiment with the OP, I don't want to grow too old and suffer complications and sickness and cause my children unnecessary financial burdens.

If I can choose my death, I will prefer to go whenever my health starts failing and scientists haven't yet had a cure for old age complications then. That could not be less than 75, any way.

Evil Brain: Medical Doctor.

Nothing illustrates the problem of evil better than watching a one year old slowly suffer and die from cancer.

And you get to see first hand the uselessness of prayer. It's hard not to start having doubts by the 10,000th time you see an hours long prayer session lead by a visiting pastor end without result. Then you see simple evidence based measures working consistently.

I'll never forget the time I counselled one virgin-type born again chick whose new husband had given her Chalmydia and blocked both her tubes. Meanwhile, the most promiscuous women who use condoms consistently never catch anything.

Medicine forces you to see how the real world works. Most of my colleagues who are still religious make sure that they keep their religion at home while at work. And when they are counselling patients, you'd be amazed at how atheistic they sound. People actually think I'm the one that's a Christian.

I fully agree with you. You can't work by helping suffering people and not know within yourself that you will do a better job of solving/preventing the problem of human suffering if you have all the powers of omniscience, omnipotence and omnibenevolence. But of course there's no such being with those powers, we humans just imagined one.

Sam Harris explained this dilemma perfectly and simply...

Astrophysicists = you can't understand the vastness of our unimaginably gigantic universe and think it's created by some tribalistic Jewish or Arabic god (Yahweh/Allah) who has nothing serious to do but worry about what you believe about him.

Social workers= if your work involves helping people undergoing deep poverty and suffering and those people are sincere believers and followers of god, you can't help but wonder if there any being in the sky who gives a damn whatever happens to humans. Actually, this is part of the things that marked the beginnings of my soul-searching journey toward atheism.

Geologists= you cant have all the evidence of the age of the earth (several billion years)and still think it was created six thousand years ago by a god.

These are the ones I have for now.

Religion / Re: Obadiah Is Right- Nl/nigerian Atheists Are Losers That Need To Step Up by cyrexx: 8:14pm On Sep 18, 2013
@ Logicboy,

First of all, calling people losers is not the best means of getting their positive attention, let alone getting them to collaborate with you.

Second, what exactly do you want nairaland atheists to do? Organise a rally or something?

Now, you should remember that all irreligious nairalanders (mostly atheists) have different mindset from what you would have wished they have. Other than disbelief in religious myths, I dont think we all have every trait in common. Not everyone share your zeal of coming together to organise some big atheistic projects, not in this country. Some will just be content to drop some seeds of reason here and there, and hope some will see the light. I won't call them losers for their own choice.

I personally decided to reduce my participation in religion section because of the hypocritical way Seun is treating atheists. The guy values traffic more than free speech. He is stiffling people who are not christians or muslims (his major source of traffic)

Personnally,I am of the opinion that your mission as a free-thinking irreligious fellow is to show the way, not to push people to go the way. People have to see for themselves and follow the way.

My mission is not to convert anybody to my irreligious stance, but to rub minds with fellow irreligious minds (and maybe some open-minded religious minds), and then perhaps some minds will see the light and drop their myths. But I personally am not the type that will go all out trying to turn religious people into atheists. If you call me a loser for that, I'll take it a compiment.

Thanks.
