But he played 4-2-3-1 today. I think the pressure to start with a win must have been a heavy burden on the team. We may see a bit more of this cagey, lacklustre games from United at the beginning of the season. But once a number of wins have been gotten, confidence will grow.

It was a good run out by both teams. Barca of course missed Messi, Neymar and Mascherano who are still on holiday after Copa America; but United still looked solid and organised. Darmian and Luke Shaw look good. So did Depay. I think 4-2-3-1 will be Van Gaal's main formation this season.

It was the youngsters that impressed me most though. Their previous 2nd half appearances had been pedestrian. But today their movement on the ball was good to watch. Even Blackett, who I really don't like, played well.

Hopefully, the team can start the season strong and stay free of injuries. We still need a centre back and another striker though. Phil Jones is still suspect and we are not sure if Chicharito will stay. Even he is not consistent.
