Mr Jimi Agbaje, the Lagos PDP governorship candidate in the last election has stated that he is still a PDP member following claims that suggested he dumped the party after the just-concluded elections.In a statement released by his spokesperson, Modupe Ogunbayo, Jimi Agbaje disclosed that he is still a PDP member because he believes it is the best party that will address the yearnings of Nigerians.

A drunk policeman has been accused of shooting a teenager dead in Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Monday.While the family of deceased identified as Hadijat Sikiru accused the policeman of  being drunk and shooting the teenager dead,  the Lagos State Police Command, through the Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said on Tuesday that a team of policemen exchanged gunfire with suspected cultists while on surveillance duty around Adamo, adding that in the process, Hadijat was hit by a stray bullet while two police personnel sustained injuries.However eyewitnesses accused the police fabricating their statement to cover up what truly transpired. Punch reported that an eyewitness alleged that policeman fled the scene to avoid being attacked, after realizing that the teenager was dead. 

“When I read the police statement about what happened on the pages of newspapers, I was shocked because they churned out lies. The police officer was responsible for the death of that young girl and their statement was fabricated to cover it up.

“What actually happened was that around 5pm on Monday, people were playing games underneath a tree around Adamo junction when the policemen came to eat at a food vendor’s place around there. One of the officers, who wore a jacket inscribed with the number 147, came out of the food vendor’s shop and fired a shot in the air. This took everyone by surprise, because there was no imminent danger.

“I saw him leaving towards the vehicle that he and his colleagues brought and about 15 minutes later, I heard three gunshots. A woman, who is a food vendor, ran out and was screaming that the police had killed her daughter. The woman held the policeman firmly but he managed to wriggle free, ran towards their vehicle and escaped" an eyewitness, Tope Amusan said. 

The mother of the deceased, Janet, also disclosed that the fleeing cop shot a neighbour who tried to apprehend him in the hand. Janet said, “One of my friends brought his car and advised that we take my daughter’s corpse to the Imota Police Station, and when we got there, the police detained me and the people who helped me to take the corpse to the station.“Around 11pm, the police officers started begging me to get into their vehicle so that they could drop me at Adamo and I said I would not go anywhere until they release all those who assisted me to bring my daughter’s corpse there.“They pleaded with me to leave and promised to release them and I agreed to leave. The neighbour, who they shot, is at Igbobi, while the ones who assisted me are still in their custody as I speak to you. I want justice. I was told that the policemen responsible for the death of my daughter were from Ketu-Epe Police Station.”

A Nigerian man with the handle, @LegitChidi, has called for the bombing of Abuja Central Mosque after the New Zealand shootings which left over 50 people dead.

The Nigerian man called for the bombing of Abuja Central Mosque, after Dr Joe Abah, made a post concerning the the New Zealand mosque shootings, calling on a condemnation of "all forms of extremism: religious, racial, ideological or political." However many social media users condemned the attack in New Zealand, the Twitter user wrote "Let them shift to Abuja central mosque abeg..we need them there."

His account is currently being reported to security agencies and Dr Joe Abah also wrote;

The  Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in its weekly situation update for the reporting week (March 4 to 10), disclosed that 53 news cases Lassa fever was recorded in Nigeria in the last seven days. According to NCDC, the 53 new confirmed Lassa Fever cases recorded in the last seven days were reported from eight states, Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba and Delta, thus increasing the number of patients to 472. 

11 deaths were reported for same week in Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi and Nasarawa States, bringing the death toll of the disease since the outbreak began this year, to 110.The new cases counters claim made by the NCDC , which said there has been a gradual decline in the outbreak for this year. Premium Times reported that the reported confirmed cases for week 10 are the fourth largest confirmed cases from the disease since the outbreak this year.

Abba Kyari has denied telling a suspect to implicate Senate President, Bukola Saraki in the Offa Bank Robbery incident which occurred last year.

Recall that we reported earlier today that Akinnibosun , the suspect who told the court that Abba Kyari asked him to implicate Bukola Saraki in the incident said;

“Abba Kyari told me to say that the Senate President Bukola Saraki gave me the guns we used for the operations. But I declined.

“He (Abba Kyari) promised that they would reward me handsomely and set me free if I could indict Saraki. When I disagreed, they asked some policemen to take me back to the cell. During this time, my hands were tied to my legs.”

Rotimi Amaechi who spoke on Friday ahead of the expected dissolution of Buhari’s cabinet to constitute a new one, said he prays the next Transport Minister has his kind of passion.

While it is believed that Amaechi who was the Director General of the Buhari Campaign Council would return as a minister, there are fears that many ministers might not form the next cabinet of President Buhari. The former Governor of Rivers State who was quick to add that his reappointment is the prerogative of the President who has the statutory power to appoint ministers, also told newsmen that he believed he had a responsibility given to him by the President to deliver the Lagos – Ibadan railway projects and he must do it passionately.

Amaechi who recounted all he did as the Governor of Rivers State as he added that he prays the next Transport Minister has his kind of passion, said;

“If you watched me as governor I was always restless at delivering on my responsibilities. I pray whoever would be the Minister for Transport should have the same passion and focus on that responsibility.

Serge Ibaka and Marquese Chriss had a fight and eventually got ejected during Raptors and Cavs NBA game which took place last night.The NBA stars fought after they got tangled up on a long pass at the end of the the third quarter.

Ibaka who wasn’t happy with the apparent stare down, quickly got up and got a hand around Chriss’ throat. He then pushed him into the basket in a violent manner and threw a punch that didn’t connect. The Raptors trailed 91-77 at the time of the incident and entered Monday on a two-game winning streak. Cleveland went on to claim a 126-101 victory. While some incumbent governors were handed a second term, there were some surprises in some states. Here is a list of Governors elected in 2019 election below;

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi wins in Enugu State
Ugwuanyi wins all 17 LGAs in Enugu In Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was handed a second term mandate after he won in all the 17 local councils of the state. Announcing the result at INEC office, Independent Layout Enugu, the state collation officers, Prof, Joseph Ahaneku disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi polled 449,935 votes against his main challenger, Senator Ayogu Eze of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who got 10,423 votes.

2. David Umahi wins in Ebonyi State

Governor David Umahi won the election in all the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State. Mr Umahi, the PDP governorship candidate, was way ahead of his closest challenger, Sonni Ogbuoji of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Prof Frank Chukwuemeka, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) State Collation Officer for Ebonyi governorship announced Umahi as winner on Sunday in Abakaliki. Chukwuemeka disclosed that Umahi polled a total of 393,043 votes to defeat his distant rival, Sen Sonni Ogbuoji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 81,703 votes to emerge the winner.

3. Inuwa Yahaya wins in Gombe State

Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of Gombe State gubernatorial election. The party polled a total of 364,179 votes to beat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which scored 222, 868 votes in Saturday’s poll.

4. Muhammad Badaru wins in Jigawa State

Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammad Badaru, was declared winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state. The returning officer, Azubike Nwankwo, announced that Muhammad Badaru polled 810, 933 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Aminu Ibrahim of the people’s Democratic Party, who got 288, 356 votes.

5. Okezie Ikpeazu wins in Abia State

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of PDP was declared winner of Abia State governorship election. He polled 261,127 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah of the APC, who polled 99,574 votes and Dr. Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, who got 64,366 votes.

6. Abubakar Bello wins in Niger State

The governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello, was declared winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state. The returning officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Angela Freeman, announced that Mr Bello polled 526,412 votes to defeat Mr Nasko who had 298,065 votes.

7. Seyi Makinde wins in Oyo State

Seyi Makinde has been declared winner of the Oyo State governorship election. The PDP candidate won 28 out of the 33 local governments in the state, leaving the All Progressives Congress with only five. He polled 515, 621 votes to defeat his closest rival from the APC, Bayo Adelabu, who polled 357, 982 votes.

8. Emmanuel Udom wins in Akwa Ibom State

The incumbent governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has won re-election for a second term. He was announced the winner of the governorship election, at about 12:27 a.m. on Monday, in Uyo by the state returning officer, Faraday Orunmwense, a professor and vice chancellor of the University of Benin. Mr Emmanuel defeated his main opponent, Nsima Ekere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with 519, 712 votes.

Carleton University has confirmed the death of Professor Pius Adesanmi who was among the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines plane which crashed yesterday on its way to Kenya. Carleton University confirmed the death of Professor Pius Adesanmi, a professor in the English Language and Literature Department. The University community in a statement released yesterday, said it was shocked and devastated to learn of the death of Prof. Pius Adesanmi, who was among the 18 Canadians killed in today’s crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jet at the Addis Ababa airport. Global Affairs Canada also confirmed that Adesanmi was among the victims.

“ Pius Adesanmi was a towering figure in African and post-colonial scholarship and his sudden loss is a tragedy,” said Benoit-Antoine Bacon, president and vice-chancellor.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew and loved him, and with everyone who suffered loss in the tragic crash in Ethiopia."

“The contributions of Pius Adesnami to Carleton are immeasurable,” said Pauline Rankin, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. “He worked tirelessly to build the Institute of African Studies, to share his boundless passion for African literature and to connect with and support students. He was a scholar and teacher of the highest calibre who leaves a deep imprint on Carleton.”

Results of yesterday's Governorship and House of Assembly election are currently being announced across the country, and we gathered that the APC won all 30 State Assembly seats in Jigawa. 

The APC had previously won all the 11 seats in the House of Representatives and three senatorial seats in the state, during the presidential and federal parliamentary elections. They party also had a fair outing yesterday, as the APC won all 30 State Assembly seats in Jigawa.

All 157 persons aboard the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines flight which crashed in the early hours of today, have been confirmed dead. There were 147 passengers and eight crew members on board the plane, and officials have retrieved the wreckage of the plane and further confirmed the deaths. Recall that Ethiopian Prime Minister was the first to suggest a large casualty from the crash.

“The Office of the PM, on behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning" the tweet read. 

A spokesman for Ethiopian Airlines who disclosed that 157 persons aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight have been confirmed dead, said the crash had 32 Kenyans and 17 Ethiopians. Asrat Begashaw said that 31 other nationalities were also among those on board the new Boeing 737-8 MAX plane that crashed, killing all the 157 people thought to be on the flight.

What would you do?
You will be working in either the Cambridge or Woodstock facility to help build the Toyota Corolla and RAV4, and the Lexus RX350 and RX450h hybrid. You could be a member of a production team in areas such as Paint, Plastics, Moulding, Stamping, Weld, or Assembly. You will work rotational day and afternoon shifts. Shift start and end times may vary based on business conditions. Our core hours of work are Monday to Friday with a day shift starting as early as 6:15 a.m. and ending at 3:45 p.m. and an afternoon shift starting at 5:45 p.m. and ending as late as 4:15 a.m.. Overtime can be Monday-Thursday (2 hours max) and Saturday morning shift (day shift rotation only). Overtime will be paid for any work over 40 hours.

A Nigerian lawmaker identified as Hon Godiya Akwashiki, who was accused of trying to sleep with a politician’s wife in Abuja, was stripped naked last night.

The APC politician representing Eggon West constituency and also deputy speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, was reportedly caught in the act at a private residence in Maitama area in Abuja. The lady he was reportedly trying to sleep with, is believed to be a wife of the immediate past executive secretary of NJC and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Alh. Danladi Halilu Envuluanza(aka C.R).

It was alleged that Godiya who was elected as a Senator on Saturday to represent Nasarawa North, has been forcing the woman to have sex with him since last year before he was nabbed. However on his own part, the Nigerian lawmaker who was accused of trying to sleep with his fellow politician’s wife, said he was stripped naked at gunpoint and it was all in a bid to embarrass him.
