PoliticsRe: Northerners Are Not Controlling Nigeria's Oil Blocks by DaLover(m): 5:06pm On Mar 08, 2013
Demdem: Am an advocate of regional govt u should know that. However, because the status quo favours some privileged peeps, we are stuck. Only a leader with balls can rescue us.
As it is now, enugu can't export its coal to the outside world independently likewise other states with resources.
maybe you do not understand me...what I am saying is that Enugu should not be exporting or exploring coal...there is a family, person or community that onws the lan where coal is located...they should be the ones doing that....
so it doesnt matter weather the political structure is eastern regonal gopvernment or enugu state government...the man exploiting the coal pays his taxes to his lga....and so on...
How simple can it get?

omonnakoda: Actually it is not free and it is not shared. Otherwise most of us won't be here on NL wasting time. But all Nigerians have a right to compete for it.
so if i find gold in my compound...everybody should compete for it...an you dont have a fundamental problem with that...?
Your sense of justise is ok with that?

Demdem: Look, I have discussed this issue with u before.
Until we go back to regional govts or the retardeen commence the disintegration process to break up this entity, there is nothing u all can do. The oil belongs to all the way other resources from other parts of the country belongs to all. grin
That is the basis of our togetherness. What the constitution states.
What wrong with the states? what stops states from comming together to form an association?
even so, what has regoinal government got to do with a man tilling his farm or drilling an oil well in his land?
PoliticsRe: Northerners Are Not Controlling Nigeria's Oil Blocks by DaLover(m): 4:57pm On Mar 08, 2013
whats wrong if we allow people to exploit their own resources and pay tax?
why must the FG manage oil, coal, or any mineral deposit?
Its really funny men...

I will never understand this concept of collective wealth..i swear?
This concept that there is free money for all to be enjoyed is really astonishing

Look, this story doest show the whole story, and its quite an appology that an educated man will choose to tackle issues at the surface only....very shamefull...

Let me ask : At what poit will it be possible for southeners to own 83% of the arable farmland in the North....
There have to be two conditions for this to happen..
1-Nationalisation of all farm lands to be run by the federal government
2-Several years of domination of federal power by southeners...

In any normal settings the natives should be majority controling the businesses and all associated activities...but in Nigeria you would find pinches of Ijaws and other SSeners and everyone, especially the SWers and Nothers are ok with this....
I maintain that the strugle fopr this oil is what is causing our downfall.

Omo_Tier1: Stop acting stupid! You do not decide the size of the roof of a house before you know the sizes of the rooms in it. Power generation and distribution go hand in hand. Of what use is a power transmission line if there is no power to even transmit?

Nigerians are fed up of being told the devils in the details. Just give them stable light and let them pay reasonable amount. So many have been born and lived their entire life in several countries and they never knew how the light in their house was generated and distributed. All they cared about is the charges they incur.

GIVE NIGERIANS STABLE ELECTRICITY AND STOP THE NOISE!
This was the exact same foolishness that lead Bola Ige to promise fixing NEPA in six months...as we know the guy failed woefully...
Here is a Guy GEJ, who is systematically untangling the issues that have been preventing us from experiencing constant power supply and who prefer that the masses should not follow the progres being made.

If a company packs up and leaves Nigeria, we are quick to blame the government for not creating the environment, so on the flip side, if a company decides to stay put in the country and carry out its business we should be quick to praise the government!

I have problem understanding why there are lots of APC members surrounding him, the book does come in a timely fashion to separate the chaff from the rice. You see, I'm beginning to have a rethink about Jonathan's tactics. Maybe he truly needs to be slow after all. Maybe, just maybe he needs to bring back some of those yesterday's men (Anenih and co) so just that they may stew in their own juice.

Correcting what was done wrong in the past takes patience, tactics, skills and intelligence. Perhaps that's what Jonathan is up to - I just wish it is. Facing the corruption problems head on in Nigeria will be suicidal - even for a sitting president. I have realised that now. Corruption permeates every facet of our existence. Corruption is Nigeria and Nigeria is corruption. Trying to change things the way they are now will be met with a brickwall - especially from those who are benefitting from the present state of affairs. And those benefitting, my dear, they are strong and many. They're very powerful indeed.

This write up by Abati must have been endorsed by Jonathan. He played safe - and he was wise in doing that! It is clear, the reasons why Jonathan has so many opposition in government. It is clear why he allowed old people to be in government. It is also clear now that he's doing his best not just for the Niger Delta, but for the country as whole. I can only wish him goodluck (his name) as he tries to right the wrongs of the past.
This is why I normally say that those that blindly criticize GEJ have either never being in a position of authority or are being mischievous, pursuing justice cost resources, pursuing the powerful ones is even more demanding, considering the slim resources at hand, the book haram issue and the many nfrastructure to be built, justice will have to be slow for now.

IF I WAS IGNORANT WHY DID I ANSWER YOUR MORONIC POST YOU POSTED EARLIER,IT DOES SHOWS THAT I AM DEALING WITH AN ILLITERATE PDP PAID OR NOT.

BEING A DEVELOPED COUNTRY DOES NOT MEAN YOU WITH BEAR THE TITLE DEVELOPED YOU CUUNT.

IF A COUNTRY DEVELOPS ITSELF FAST,THEY BECOME A NEWLY INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY FOR ONE OR TWO YEARS THEN THEY GET THE TITLE DEVELOPED.OR IF IT IS A HUGELY POPULATED COUNTRY LIKE CHINA IT MAY TAKE A FEW YEARS UNTIL THEY BEAR THE DEVELOPED TITLE.

Research Czech republic,or philippines or CHINA or even Malaysia. AND YOU WILL BE SO SURPRISED TO SEE WHAT WHAT TITLES THESE COUNTRIES BARED BEFORE AND AFTER A YEAR OF JUST STRONG DEVELOPMENT.AND TO MAKE THINGS EVEN WORSE THOSE countries don't even earn half of what Nigeria earns a year(INCLUDING CHINA). THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY IS JUST WORTH AROUND 256 BILLION US DOLLARS,YET NIGERIA LAST YEAR EARNED NEARLY UP TO 150 BILLION UK POUNDS IN OIL PROFITS(recorded by the Nigerian government)JUST ALONE.
SO JUST IMAGINE HOW MUCH WE REALLY EARN INCLUDING ALL THE MONEY STOLEN FROM CORRUPTION AND OTHER RESOURCES NIGERIA SELL.

YOU ARE AN UTTER DISGRACE TO NIGERIANS,AND YOUR HEARTLESSNESS TO YOUR FELLOW NIGERIANS IS REALLY SAD. READ THE ECONOMIST EDITION OF MAY LAST YEAR.THAT MIGHT GIVE YOU A BIT OF INSIGHT OF WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.OR JUST TRY AND READ YOUR AVERAGE NIGERIAN NEWSPAPER.

A lot of people Seam to think we are very rich, they do not realize how poor we are, and how little the moeny we generate can achieve at one go

@2.5 million barrels per day, and $100 per barrel,
In a year, we should earn 2.5million X 100 X 365 or $91billion (cost of production not considered)
Of his total, the FG keeps about $40billion, the states and he LGs share the rest.

I googled 'cost of road constructions' and I came up with the an average of $30million per 4lane km of road.
The east west road is bout 300km, and at this rate would cost 300km X $30million or $9billion(I did not include additional cost for numerous bridges or Niger delta terrain)

From a miserly $40billion a year the FG is expected to actually perform magic, pay salaries, subsidize university education, health, subsidize your Nepa, build our rail lines, build power plants, maintain refineries, universities, pay salaries for over 700,000 thousand federal workers, pay pensions, repair and maintain airports....the list is endless

Now lets go back to the example of roads...I know there is a difference between construction of roads and rehabilitation of existing roads, but you have to agree with me that many of the road begging for attention almost require full reconstruction...but for argument sake let say we use a reduced figure of $15million for a 4 lane km highway(I assumed most of the FG trunk are 4 lane roads, I may be wrong)
I don't know the total km of Nigerian roads, google couldn't help me here, but I will safely say that at least 5000 km of roads require urgent attention.
The total cost for his would be 5000km X 15 million or 75billion dollars....

Thus with an annual budget of $40b, you have roads of $75b to fix.
If you decide to dedicate $10b yearly to road construction, it would take 7years for roads bad right now, remember other roads will come up for attention as time goes on.....

We are very poor, people need to have this at he back of their minds when commenting
PoliticsRe: How GEJ/Yaradua Spent $67Billion by DaLover(m): 7:56pm On Jan 26, 2013
jp philips: my price is common sense,

one yr price forecast for oil for 2013 is $110/bbl
price today for crude is $95.96.

take average of $100/bbl (citeris paribus)

export = 2.5mbbl/day
JV ownership = 60%
other earnings = 40% of total earning.

do the maths now
The 60%/40% doesn't exactly work like that, for each barrel sold for $100, royalties of about $70 is paid to FG, $30 is then shared 60%/40% in Favour of the FG, i.e $12 goes to the IOC's. this $12 is then subjected to prevailing tax conditions.
Hence the FG will make at least $90 from a $100 sale. I have not factored in cost of production

Afam4eva: A lot of NDeltans wan t resource control but some of them are also calling for an increase of their monthly allocation. I'll personally suggest resource control so that because can develop based on the natural and human resources at their disposal.
Those calling for increased monthly allocation are totally ignorant and misinformed, increasing the monthly allocations in a dysfunctional system will only serve o increase the money available for corruption,
When we say states should stop receiving monthly allocations from FG, and instead look inwards, look at creative ways to exploit all resources available to them and pay taxes o the FG, we are also referring to nigerdelta states..
Nothing much can happen in any of the nigerdelta states, even if they embark on massive infrastructural development, it still amounts to little.
PoliticsRe: What Have Niger Delta States Achieved So Far? by DaLover(m): 8:53pm On Jan 20, 2013
Afam4eva: One state that has been on the receiving end on Nairaland is Lagos and we all know it's because it's Nigeria most populous and important state and a lot of Nairalanders live there. I think it's time we started spreading our review of other states in the country especially Niger Delta states.

The states in the Niger Delta collect the largest allocation from the FG and the amount is wayy more than what non-ND states collect. The Niger Delta also have a ministry devoted to it's affairs. They also have a government parastatal(NDDC) devoted to developing the region where majority of Nigeri'a wealth comes from.

Even though Niger Deltans have cried that they need more from their resources through more derivation or resource control, but personally i think what they're presently been given is a whole lot and they should be able to account for it.

Now i ask, what have the Niger Delta states done with the gargantuan allocation that they get monthly. Is there any notable thing that these states have done to justify the huge allocation?
Adam we are not saying we need more of our resources, we are saying that like any other business concern we should control he resources and pay tax to government.
It's that simple, the present structure is a misnomer as far as I am concerned.
