PoliticsRe: Why Northern Senators Opposed Petroleum Industry Bill by DaLover(op): 9:38pm On Jan 02, 2013
Afolabs101: With all the hundreds of billions the south south has received over the years (Federal Allocation, IGR, 13% Derrivation, NDDC, Ministry of Niger Delta, Amnesty Fund etc), they still can't fix the East West road or second Niger Bridge?

Give south south an extra 200% and see the kind of house Orubebe wil the build. Until you have accountable Govenance, keep arguing about how much the ND gets and see what you will benefit from it.

These people are fighting for their own pockets. The money is either going to The Fed account, or to the National Assembly or to Amnesty etc. Me a Northern Senator want the ND to get less so that there's more for his state Governor and the NASS. Me a South South senator want ND to get more as I have some influence over NDDC and Ministry of ND, more money for them means more chopping for me. Get it?
Don't you get it, the FG should stop sharing money to the states, y is this simple concept so difficult for people to grasp....waiting for monthly ol money is actually the root of our problems

Baba-Ibrahim:
The problem some Nigerians have is that they have never travelled out so they keep seeing a single page in the book of life and some don't use their internet access to poen their mind and broaden their horizon.
USA has majority of it's oil fields in Alaska and very few in California and Texas and yet the over 50 states of this country benefit from it,I'v never heard the US senators talk of derivative formular. They pass bills that will be beneficial to the whole nation.
“Yes nobody planted or ever farmed crude oil",it's a natural resources endowed by God.Go and check mineral resources distribution map of any country, you realise, one resources or the other is bestowed on different region.
When power generation started in Nigeria, from Dams situated in Northern region, the north never clamour for rationing the megawatts of power generated using any derivative formular.
Recently, you own kinsman,Tam David-west revealed how much you'v received using tthis derivative formular(#11.7trillion)and yet there's nothing to show for it.Gov's of the southern region have always been the regular customers of EFCC,due to the large amount they receive with nothing to justify it.
It's time we think as a true Nigerian and address issues objectively for our own long term benefit. God bless Nigeria.
The fifty states pay taxes to run the FG in USA...what rubbish are you talking above...please stop pretending to be a dunce...because someone cannot naturally be this dull.
What is a resource? Oil under your feet, arable land for farming, grazing, gold, coal, people, rivers, the sea, etc....
If you accept my examples of resources, then do you ever wonder why the fG has decided to seize a particular resources from a set of people, share same across the country (oil) and let other groups of people exploit their resources, (arable farm land or population) and pay taxes?
Yes the ndelta govs have mismanaged the 13% as have the other govs mismanaged the 87%......but we are say that FG should not pay money to states...it is orally wrong and encourages laziness we are witnessing in nigeria today....the states should only receive monies from the taxes it's citizens pay...hence hey would be forced to create more conducive environment for its citezens to exploit its resources for an improved revenue base.
Stop being lazy
PoliticsRe: Why Northern Senators Opposed Petroleum Industry Bill by DaLover(op): 9:24pm On Jan 02, 2013
lacasa: Endorsed!.

God bless the Senator for saying what needs to be said.

It's simple and straightforward, as long as the FG is in charge of the totality of oil reserves and its proceeds then, all nooks and crannies of the Federation must get their share in revenue allocation in a "Fair and sustainable sharing ratio".

The SS/N-delta are getting too much at the expense of others with little or nothing to account for it.

In fact, their Governors blow the large sums on private jets n mansions thereby leaving the SS/N-delta looking more like a wild jungle inhabited by 'Savages'.

If the govt has ηo interest in exploiting the oil up North or other vast resources in the region, then the oyel must flow without any ojoro to all & sundry.

Thank you smiley
How about the citizens exploiting their resources and paying taxes? What is wrong with that, why should it be the govt business to do business for you?
I don't understand how we got to this stage in our lives where we become so lazy that the FG (not even the lgs ) now need to wipe our a$$es...

A lot of people come here and pretend to fight for truth and justice, when we know all all they want is to be in a position to control resources in the country which they wrongly believe is their birth right.

All the attacks on the president are simple he asked us to pay the market price for crude products...what if he had insisted that each state should begin to generate its own income and pay 50% to the federal govt? I means they wold have assassinated him...why n earth people would want to continually be spoonfeed baffles me..

Even more worrysome is the fact that those crying loudest for the spoon feeding are from the south west...an areas which is so quick to tell us how much they have achieved in education. Normally the most educated regions of a country would be leading he way in technological advancement, research and other fields of endeavor for the general betterment of the country...but in nigeria while the SW and core north are crying and insisting that someone else pay for their daily existence, the SE is willing to letgo of this spoon feeding attitude. Indeed they have progressed to the stage where they now set up mega industries without direct govt support....

When a set of supposedly highly educated people begin to pick on the grammatical correctness of every statement the president makes in a bid to rubbish him, just to ensure that the very parasitic existence the have is not threatened....it is truly worrysome...

nagoma: Your thesis may not be true but one is compelled to accept it when one looks at our Dear President - how Pathetic!
Like I said before, the fact that you posses a phd or not has nothing to do with your ability to lead...hence all those seeking to use the presidents phd accomplishments to rubbish him should look for something else...attempting to establish a relationship btw phd and leadership qualities of a person shows a deep level of ignorance or hate driven mission.

See for instance a community in Ogun or ondo state and one from jigsaws or sokoto states, there would appear similar infra-structurally, technologically, administratively and otherwise.....not minding that one of these communities has a prof in every household.

Gbawe: This is the bottom line. Those holding brief for GEJ are also equally weak-minded because they simply have no appreciation of what obtains elsewhere, as a minimum standard , in this day and age. Yet we are talking about the biggest black nation on earth that should ordinarily and automatically display an intelligent, charismatic and analytical solutions-provider as an inspirational example of what a black African can be and can achieve. It is not rocket science. if processes are correct, not warped and as purist as obtains worldwide then our President , even as we know he is flesh and blood, would reflect this by having special qualities that justifies why he is the apex leader of the largest number of black folks on earth.

Yet we are never ashamed that instead we get a very, very, very mediocre man, with very poor skills that makes one doubt his purported training. Many of us cannot even respect him because of his bumbling ineptitude that is so elementary one would not expect to find a child displaying such!!! Yet we have unambitious, bigoted and politically gauche cretins always compelled to make excuses for what serious nations, with politically sophisticated folks, would unanimously turn their backs on as a gross failing of leadership.

I pity Nigeria with how it is a nation intrinsically contrived to keep itself down. We even see it here on Nairaland with how some cursed folks argue on behalf of what would not be entertained elsewhere and would compel all citizens , whatever their leanings, to unanimously say in unison "enough is enough".

Our is a nation that may yet fail because of one consideration. Many have not learnt and are not interested in learning to put their nation first. Allegiance, overwhelmingly and inflexibly, is to "brothers", ethnic group, religion, geo-political zone, region etc, etc. It is what brainwashes many to defend what must not be defended to the extent of the crazy talk we witness here I never see citizens of other Nations guilty of.
Bad belle unlimited...there exist a lot of sick infant thinking people who cannot appreciate when they have gotten a great deal

http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/why-we-oppose-petroleum-industry-bill-northern-senators/

Chairman, Senate Committee on Housing, Sen. Bukar Abba-Ibrahim, said yesterday that the North was
opposed to the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, because of its lopsidedness. Abba-Ibrahim, who stated this at an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, said that the clause in
the PIB, which was asking for additional 10 per cent revenue for oil producing communities, was
unacceptable. “Derivation is only one out of seven sources of revenue for the oil producing states. They have the
Federal Government’s take home, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, with over N500bn
being projects only in oil producing communities. “They also have the Niger Delta Ministry with over N400bn Federal Government grants in the name of
amnesty and oil companies doing social corporate responsibility.” According to him, adding another 10 per cent to the already existing revenue generators for the zone
was unfair. “Adding another 10 per cent to all these seven sources, I don’t know how you are going to have peace
where resources allocations are so skewed to one side and unfair,” the former governor noted. He said
the addition in the PIB was unacceptable and suggested that the money should go into the treasury so
that every Nigerian could benefit from it. “Nobody planted or farmed oil, it is God, who put it there and it will not last forever. It will get to a point
where the oil will finish and another natural resource will come up and every Nigerian will benefit from
it,” he said. The lawmaker added that the North was also opposed to the PIB because of its failure to make provision
for the exploitation of other minerals all over the country. He said: “We have over 800 million tonnes of limestone in Gulane, Fune and Guljimba local
governments of Yobe State, but as a state government, you cannot go and exploit, it has to be Federal
Government.” He is, however, optimistic that the bill when passed, would sanitise the Petroleum Industry and address
the issue of corruption in the sector. Speaking on the current security challenge in the country, Abba-
Ibrahim said that although dialogue might not be the only solution, it remained the best option. “To me, dialogue is not the only solution, but it remains the best solution. I am not saying it is the only
solution because there are many ways to solve it, but I believe that dialogue remains the best,” he
said.
Yet some people wonder why they are referred to as parasites.

kingoflag: And how did Gowon's Govt come about and what caused the coup that brought him to power? Its funny how you guys always jump from topic to topic trying to blame others. When I first came on here and I was always defending Biafra, others warned me that soon I'll encounter your type and my views will change. Is it that you guys are dense in the head or youre just being willfully deceitful? Nobody in his right senses will justify Igbos being killed during those pogroms. But, whats wrong with getting rid of the victim mentality, accepting your faults and moving on to work for a better Nigeria? Your attitudes is why your greedy politicians always lead yall to greater harm and force your populace into playing destroyer all the time. Then you wonder why noone trusts you. They dont do anything for you guys but are quick to scream "Biafra" or "Christianity" and point the fingers at others to cover for their own incompetency knowing fully well that once those magic words are uttered all your senses are out the window. Like, you guys should get a grip for real. Its getting tiring seeing the same thing over and over again. You will not convince the rest of Nigeria that you were "Innocent" in the whole happenings that led to the civil war, so let it go. Thats what I think the rest of the country has against Igbos like "Why do they still proclaim themselves innocent even though they started the beef on Jan.15,1966?". Nigeria starved you--- true, but until your nation accepts that they played a huge part in destroying the fabric of that country, then I'm sorry, all you'll do is argue, beg, and cry for an apology that'll never come.
Few years ago, a group of ruwandan Tutsi rebels shot down a plane carrying the Hutu president, the world knows what happened after, a million Tutsis were butchered to death....according to the logic of kingoflag above...the Tutsis are to blame for loosing a million souls...

Few Igbo men killed leaders in the north and thousands of Igbos were killed...it is attributed to the fault of Igbos...
Somehow when I reflex on what happened with regards to the massacres in 1966/67, if the world had taken notice and immediately stepped in to protect the Igbos maybe a million Rwandans might not have died...just a thought.

If people who committed war crimes in ww2 are still being talked about and chased, why should the discussions on the Biafra war stop?

elliottibanga: Jonathan, ever since the subsidy removal fiasco, has had bad public relations with the average Nigerian. The fact that he would rather put the brunt of corruption reform on the very poor and helpless instead of the corrupt politicians and co, has made him one of Nigeria's most disliked Head of state.

His daily statements have not helped either. If ever there was a president who critically needed public speaking lectures, Jonathan would be that president.

The way forward is simple my dear presido. Talk less, Think and act more! Let your positive actions do your talking for you.

Sincere 9gerian: This is an insurgency. It is a battle within, not nation vs nation war. If you'r not a child you would know that insurgencies(especially the types coloured with religion) are very delicate and complex situations that if not properly handled may split the Nigerian military into 2 camps and plunge the country into another civil war or balkanise the country. Insurgencies all over the world are very difficult to curtail and often takes decades to resolve simply because the enemies are within with significant part of the country sympathetic to the course of the insurgents
Unfortunately, the follow follow crowd don't see the current security challenges as a serious insurgency...

Gbawe: We are not going to be "free" of anything as long as ethnic/religious/sectional bias and sentiments remain a factor in how Nigerians make decisions. My brother, think about it yourself. How many Nations of the world do you know where citizens are sentimental to the extent they would ignore the very mediocre history of a candidate, that screams "future failure" , and insist on voting for him merely because they resent the ethnicity, region of origin and religion of the other candidates who are a million times better?

Inspected logically, factually and without sentiments, nothing, I repeat nothing, indicated GEJ would even be average let alone effective. If anything, his history showed a man primed to fail and "underwhelm" as we are seeing now. Yet Nigerians, confirming my suspicion they are among the least politically sophisticated in the world, trooped to the polling station to cast their vote for a self-confessed mediocrity. While PDP remains powerful, simpletons and 'business-as-usual' stooges is all they will ever supply. Common sense would have averted it but no properly run government runs expecting everybody to have common sense, that's where regulatory agencies come in, for example, if the appropriate agencies had been up and doing, residential building would be strictly residential, and a fire in one building will not spread to 15 others.

Pharoh: Though i am asking that question in light of someone saying u don't need an agency or authority to tell you not to do in some certain things.

Now to answer your question, there are housing management authority, agencies that have housing estates and government environmental agencies that should be responsible for this. If someone is using a residential area for commercial storage of goods then there should be appropriate authority that they can be reported to who can come in to fix this illegality.

Due to our peculiar system of individuals owning residential properties then the landlord of the place should be contacted or they can take the case to the local government to report the illegality. Do you want to tell me now that someone can just convert his house into a commercial storage facility in a well regulated estate like Victoria garden city or the likes without the appropriate authority or the housing agency in charge taking care of this?.
Yes, they can, many residential building are converted to commercial buildings outside of the master plans in VI, lagos and elsewhere in nigeria, and we see this everyday ...agencies of government fail, hence the government fails...but decides to blame others
