​Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed joy over the emergence of Dr. Kayode Fayemi as the governorship flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress in the July 4th gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

Kalu, who made his feeling known via his official Facebook account on Tuesday, pledged to give his maximum support to Fayemi to enable him sweep off what he described as “wasted years of misgovernance in Ekiti state”.

He wrote: “I was overwhelmed with joy at the emergence of Dr. Fayemi as our (APC) flagbearer for the Ekiti state gubernatorial election slated July 4th, 2018.

“His victory was a victory for President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire APC and I pledge my unflinching support to him as he’s poised to sweep off the wasted years of mis-governance in the State.

“I also encourage him to reach out and unite with other contestants so that their strength(s) can be harnessed in unison for the overall victory of the party.”

A former vice-chancellor, Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Prof. Ernest Izevbigie, has taken the Nigerian Breweries Plc. to a High Court in Benin City for alleged deception.

Izevbigie, a Professor of Biochemistry, accused the company of allegedly inscribing misleading information, “low sugar,” on the label of one of its non-alcoholic drinks, Amstel Malt.

The case, with suit number, B/281/2017, was filed at an Edo State High Court before the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Esohe Ikponmwen, through the claimant’s lawyer, Mr. Okonkwo Emmanuel of Henry Idahagbon and Co. (Trinity Chambers).

Izevbigie alleged that a laboratory investigation revealed that the product contained more sugar than the company claimed in the inscription of the brand.

He, therefore, prayed the court to order the company to tender a written apology because he had been injured by the alleged deception even as he claimed that the label was misleading to the public.

Izevbigie said that he had during a medical check-up discovered an increase in his blood sugar level, adding that he had traced the challenge to his regular intake of the malt drink.

During cross-examination by the counsel to the defendant, Mr. L. O. Ogiefere, Izevbigie told the court that Amstel Malt did not merit the “low sugar” label, according to clinical research.

According to him, the drink allegedly contained 10 cubes of sugar as against the 10 and a half to 10 one-quarter cubes contained in other malt drinks. The matter was later adjourned to June 28 for the defendant to opens its case.

​Germany has proposed a new process that will facilitate the smooth repatriation of over 30,000 illegal Nigerian migrants back to the country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama said this when he received the Security Adviser to the President of Germany, Dr Jan Hecker, and his team in Abuja.

The new proposal, according to Onyeama, is predicated on perceived failures and slow pace of the current system of repatriation.

This, he said, involved both the participation of Nigerian embassies and consulate and the German immigration office.

“They don’t have enough faith and confidence in the process that we have at the moment for the repatriation process.

”Some of the delays they believed are with the mission and consulate in Germany.

”They want to propose a completely new process of repatriation, known as Return and Re-admission,” he said.

Onyeama said that in the last two years only about 200 Nigerians had returned to the country out of about 30,000.

”Germans were not happy that the system we have in place at the moment is certainly not working to their satisfaction,” he said.

According to him, the new process essentially entailed that once all legal processes had been exhausted, Nigeria should trust them (Germany), to make right decision on who should be repatriated.

He added that once the decision was taken, Germany would bring the affected persons to Nigeria without the involvement of Nigeria’s mission in Germany.

“They will bring them here to Nigeria and say we have gone through a process in Germany; these people are your nationals, they have exhausted all the legal processes, please take them.

”And it will be here on Nigeria territory that any possibility will then exist to say maybe that one is not or this one is not,” he said.

​Big Brother Naija 2018 winner, Miracle has finally addressed reports making the rounds that he is in a relationship with a ‘Sugar Mummy’ simply identified as Juliet.

The internet was agog over the weekend with claims and pictures that the winner of the just concluded BBNaija reality show, Miracle, had a sugar mummy.

However, Miracle’s brother, Captain Igbokwe, has reacted to the allegation on behalf of his brother.

Captain Igbokwe, who took to his Instagram page to address the issue in a video, said the woman known as Juliet was actually their aunt.

He said it was disrespectful for anyone to allege that Miracle had anything amorous to do with his own aunt.

He said “Juliet is Miracle’s aunt, it is insulting because someone is hurt or you have been unable to see Miracle outside the house then try to fabricate stories.

​The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the Ekiti State governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka has said there is nothing wrong in people seeing him as Governor Ayo Fayose’s boy, stressing that he is proud of the state governor, who he called his political father.

Olusola, who is currently the state’s deputy governor, last Tuesday emerged winner of the PDP governorship primary held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. He polled 1,191 votes to defeat PDP’s former national spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who garnered 770 votes from the primaries.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Programme, Sunday Politics, Eleka pointed out that his emergence as the party’s flagbearer for the July 14 gubernatorial polls was as a result of his selfless service to the people of the state and this was recognized by the governor.

He said, “I have a political father who is Peter Ayodele Fayose and I am proud of him. The issue at stake is Ekiti State and the bulk stops at my table when I become governor.

“If I am Fayose’s boy, good. The most important thing is that Ekiti State comes first and my performance is what matters,” he said.

The governorship aspirant expressed confidence of emerging victorious in the polls, pointing out that the people of the state were solidly behind him and the PDP.

“Ekiti people are behind us, they are behind Olusola Eleka and Fayose. They are behind PDP and you can be rest assured that we are going to win come July 14,” he said.

​The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), yesterday blamed commercial banks in the country for sabotaging its efforts at replacing mutilated notes with new ones.

Mr. Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director, Communications Department of CBN, made the allegation in Lagos on Thursday, while reacting to lamentations of Nigerians on the preponderance of dirty and mutilated notes in the country, said the apex bank was aware of the development and had taken several measures to address it.

According to him, one of the steps taken by CBN in mopping up the mutilated notes from the system was reduction in the amount it charges banks for sorting the dirty notes for clean ones from N12,000 to N1,000 per box.

Okorafor said the reduction in charges for the commercial banks, which lasted for three months from January 2 to March 28 was to encourage them to return more dirty notes to CBN.

He said the sorting charges, which used to be N12,000 was later reduced to N2,000 per box after the March 28 deadline when the window was closed.

The CBN director said the opportunity was limited to lower denomination naira notes comprising N50, N20 and N10 notes.

Nigerians have been decrying the large scale circulation of dirty and mutilated notes, mainly in the smaller denominations of N5, N10, N20, N50 and N100 notes.

He hinted that the bank had adopted another strategy of withdrawing the unfit notes from circulation rather than depending mainly on the commercial banks on the task in view of their poor response.

Okorafor added that the CBN had started engaging associations in various markets to encourage traders to change genuine dirty notes for new ones. This, he said, would not attract any cost to traders.

“The bank has already taken the new measure to Kano, Kaduna and Abuja and also intends to bring it to the South soon,” he said.

On hoarding and selling of new currency notes, Okorafor said the serial numbers of the mint ones given out to the public would be used to track whosoever perpetuates such act. He, however, appealed to Nigerians to handle the national currency with care as it is a symbol of identity and value which should be handled with respect.

Okorafor urged the public to always demand for new notes instead of collecting dirty notes from banks.

​MTV Shuga Naija has come to an end yesterday night and we’re oh-so-excited! We can’t wait to see what will happen to some of our favs. We also have a few questions; will Faa get justice? Will Leila still make it to school? How will Ebisinde and his friends end up?

Okay, if we’re going to be honest, the questions are endlesssss!

However, in spite of our desperate curiosity and questions, we cannot forget all the lessons the show has taught us so far. Here are a few of them:

1. Go for what you know is right for you, regardless of the ‘obstacles’ around you : Hadiza showed us a perfect example of this when she stood up to her family and said she was determined to live her best possible life.

2. Rape is NEVER your fault : If you have been raped, always remember that it is not your fault but the fault of the rapist. Do not be afraid to report to the authorities and seek counsel. Like Faa in episode 8, go to the nearest hospital and have them check you and give you necessary medications. This will also serve as evidence, in case you need to present it to the police or court.

3. Family planning is important: If you’re not ready to have kids or want to wait for a bit, get family planning options and pick what you think works best. It is also perfectly fine to want to take breaks between children.

4. You don’t need to give sexual favours to move forward in life : Whether at work, at school or anywhere else, never give sex in exchange for favour. Keep working hard and believe your time will come when it’s right.

5. ‘Adulting’ isn’t always fun : As teens, it is normal to want to ‘hurry and grow up’ and be a big girl or boy. But, the truth is being an adult comes with a lot of responsibilities; so learn as much as you can as a teen so you’re ready to take the adult stage well.

6. Always use contraceptives : No one is saying you shouldn’t have sex, but please protect yourselves, young kings and queens. There are way too many diseases out there. Faa never ever gave in to any man’s ‘no condoms’ rule, she stayed true to her belief all through, but look what happened to Leila who let her ‘boyfriend’ convince her he would ‘pull out’.

7. Consent is major key : Nobody has a right to your body unless you give consent, even if that person has had sexual relations with you before. Consent must be properly communicated at every time.

8. Sexual education is important : Teaching young people about safe sex and family planning is not a wrong thing to do, but is instead, a way to ensure that they are on the right track and are protected. The better they know, the lesser the chances of someone taking advantage of their ignorance. Like Faa did to Tare, sit them down and educate them properly.

9. Don’t hide your whereabouts : Always ensure someone knows your location and can come pick you up in case there’s any unexpected issue or you feel uncomfortable or uneasy where you are. Imagine Leila didn’t have Tobi to come pick her and the other girls from the party Diana took them to.

10. Ask the right people the right questions : Always verify what ‘friends’ tell you, especially when it comes to sexual issues and other things which may affect your health. Don’t listen to a Diana without confirming what he or she is saying.

​The federal government of Nigerian has pledged to provide affordable houses by mortgage that people can pay for throughout their working life.

The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who stated this on Wednesday, said part of the change agenda of the ruling All Progressive Congress is that, “Nigerians would no longer have to buy a house like fish in the market. That is not how it works in other societies.

“The payment period will be spread over a period of time, usually your working life. That is really affordability. Housing is not just about building; it is also providing access to funding through the Federal Mortgage Bank.”

Fashola stated this in Jigawa State where he is on a supervision tour of federal road and housing projects.

According to the minister, “Workers who are contributing to the National Housing Fund have something now to look forward to. We are going to create a line of supply houses and access to credit and allow you to choose what your income can afford.”

“That is the journey of change President Buhari has been talking about. We will experience something new. The change will not be only on the new houses but also how to pay for the houses in a manner that makes it convenient for you,” he stated.

On electricity, the minister said people were now free to set up independent power generation companies “without necessarily requesting for license.”

He said the federal government is encouraging the private sector to invest in generation and selling of power to the public.

“Any interested individual or company can set up power generation from two megawatts downwards and sell it to public without requesting for any licence.

“We are encouraging people to set up small power generation and sell it according to their capacity, not necessarily going for big projects that require huge amount of money and expertise”, he said.

​Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members to consider enlisting in the armed forces.

Kazaure gave the advice in an interview on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun.

The director-general, who inspected various physical and combat activities of the 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to Ogun, said he was impressed by their level of discipline.

Kazaure, who also watched the quarter-guard, Man-O-War regiment, martial arts combats as well as the band display of the corps members, said he was certain that they would excel in the military.

He described the Ogun Orientation camp as one of the best in the country, noting that it had been persistent over the years in maintaining excellence in the training of corps members.

“With what I have witnessed here today, I can confidently state that this has been by far the best set of corps members ever received in Ogun State camp.

“Their level of discipline and adherence to the teachings of their instructors has been excellent and I urge them to maintain the status quo.

“The orientation programme was designed to help prepare corps members for the challenges ahead during their service year and these ones will do very well to cope.

“To join the army, there are guidelines. You must be physically, medically and mentally fit.

“The army will subject you to a lot of exams both written and oral before the final selection. If you meet all the required indices, you will be enlisted,” he said.

Kazaure also said he was inspired by the display of the band to pioneer the NYSC inter-state band competition for corps members with added rewards for outstanding groups.

He urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC during their service year by promoting the ideals of the scheme.

Kazaure added that the NYSC would be considering posting more corps members to farms under the scheme in Oyo, Abuja, Bauchi and Kebbi.

The Ogun NYSC State Coordinator, Mr John Okpo, thanked the director general for the visit while reiterating the commitment of the NYSC in Ogun in complementing the scheme in nation building.

He said the 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members comprising 2,513 individuals including 1,161 males and 1,352 females distinguished themselves by arriving very early in camp.

Okpo urged the corps members to equip themselves with the necessary skills for self-reliance through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

The President of the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN), Dr Taiwo Sheikh, says according to a recent study, 85% of mad people in Nigeria are youths within the age bracket of 18-38.

The psychiatrist in a recent interview with Newsmen, said the major cause of mental challenge in Nigeria has gone beyond drug abuse as the youths now inhale lizard faeces as well to get high. According to him,

Our young men are sniffing lizard faeces, they are putting their noses into pit toilets to inhale things from there and they are also smoking match sticks. It is now beyond the abuse of drugs sold in pharmacies. Before now, when you talk of substance use disorder your mind goes to use and abuse of substances like heroine, Indian hemp or cocaine but this trend has changed.” he said

​Kayode Fayemi, minister of mines and steel, walked out of the meeting which Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and some party leaders held with the governorship aspirants of the APC in Ekiti state, on Tuesday.

The meeting took place at the Lagos state government house in Asokoro, Abuja.

Some of the party leaders in attendance were Bisi Akande, pioneer chairman of the party; Segun Osoba, former Ogun state governor; Niyi Adebayo, former Ekiti state governor; and Pius Akinyelure; zonal vice chairman of the APC in the south-west.

After discussing for like two hours, they agreed on a break.

The minister, who walked out of the room ahead of other aspirants and party leaders, ignored reporters who approached him.

He entered his car and his driver sped off.

But Akande who spoke with journalists said the outcome of the meeting would be presented to the national working committee (NWC) of the party.

Asked if there were discussion on a consensus candidate, he said it is an option since the party’s constitution is not against it.

“Primary election is already written in our constitution but all we want is the happiness the generality of the leadership, the contestants and our party in general,” Akande said.

“We took a decision on what will be the best advantage to our party and the country. Consensus is already written in our constitution and it is an option.”

When asked if the aspirants agreed on a consensus candidate, Akande said they were asked to think about it and report back to the leaders.

Asked to comment on the cancellation of Saturday’s primary, Akande said he was not part of the process but said he would be part of avoid the repeat of the incident.

When the meeting reconvened around 7:30pm, other aspirants were there but Fayemi and Ayo Arise, a former senator, were not seen.

Tanko Al-Makura, governor of Nasarawa state, and chairman of the election committee, joined the second part of the the meeting.

After the botched primary, Fayemi accused Babafemi Ojudu, a presidential aide, and Bimbo Adaramola, a former member of the house of representatives, of conspiring to thwart the exercise, which he claimed was in his favour.

Delegates from four local government areas had concluded voting when the exercise was disrupted. Fayemi said he was leading in the votes cast.

The APC leadership has fixed July 11 for a fresh primary.

​Then Federal Government has told the UN General Assembly in New York that the Boko Haram terrorists no longer held any territory in the country.

Nigeria’s Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Samson Itegboje, stated this while presenting Nigeria’s message at the ‘High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace’ at the UN headquarters.

Itegboje said the meeting was being convened at a time when the global community was facing unprecedented threats, geo-political tensions, social dislocation, cyber attacks, threat of climate change and terrorism.

“Nigeria has had her fair share of these crises when, amongst other vices. Boko Haram insurgents annexed 14 Local Governments in Borno in the North East of Nigeria.

“However, on assumption of office in 2015 President Muhammadu Buhari ensured the recovery of the annexed territories. Today, Boko Haram insurgents no longer hold any territory in Nigeria,” he said.

He noted that Resolutions 70/262 of the General Assembly and 2282 (2016) of the Security Council on the Review of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture addressed the UN approach to peace, focusing on prevention.

The Resolutions also call for a broader concept, which encompasses peace building, that links peace and security with development, human rights and humanitarian action.

Itegboje said: “Nigeria is of the opinion that, while ‘sustaining peace’ should not be seen as an infringement on sovereignty.

“It should also not be used as a guise for the infringement on sovereignty of member states as the centrality of national and inclusive ownership of sustaining peace cannot be over-emphasised.

“The emphasis on prevention is commendable and we recommend that the Peacebuilding Architecture should have, as a component, an Early Warning System that should be accompanied by an Early Action System”.

Itegboje said Nigeria had consistently been in the vanguard of supporting and participating in international efforts at conflict-prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding and sustaining peace both sub-regionally, regionally and globally.

He said since 1960, Nigeria had been an active participant in UN peacekeeping missions, deploying Military contingents, unarmed Military Observers, Military Staff Officers, formed Police units, Police advisor and Civilian Experts to over 25 UN Missions.

The Nigerian envoy also noted that Nigeria was the world’s 14th largest troops contributing nation to the UN peacekeeping operations.

According to him, Nigeria shares the view that the maintenance of human rights is critical to sustaining peace and has embarked on mainstreaming human rights into its security architecture.

“In this context, progress has been made in enhancing civil-military relations, establishing legislative oversight on the security sector in relation to defence spending, procurement and general budgetary matters.

“Efforts have also been stepped up to create a better partnership between civilians and armed forces,” the Nigerian envoy said.

He said Nigeria believed that ensuring the meaningful participation of women and girls in all areas of society was vital, adding gender equality yields greater economic growth and higher standards of living.

He added that women’s participation in peacebuilding helped prevent relapse into conflict and Nigerian was addressing emerging security issues, social gaps and ensuring substantial women contributions to peacebuilding and peace maintenance in the country.

Itegboje said the Nigerian government was tackling youth unemployment through interventionist programmes like N-POWER and an ambitious three-year medium term economic development strategy – Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

The Nigerian envoy added: “More importantly, corruption is being tackled headlong as it is seen as a big obstacle to the economic growth of the country.

“Nigeria will continue to support international efforts aimed at peace building and sustaining peace across the world.

“In order to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, we call on the rest of the world to emulate and join Africa in its ambitious program to silence the guns in the year 2020”.

​The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said all the aspirants whose representatives were involved in disrupting the Ekiti State primary election held on Saturday risk disqualification.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, while speaking with journalists after a meeting at the party’s secretariat, said the Tanko Al-Makura led Ekiti primary election committee briefed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and made specific recommendations.

The party said having received a report of the event, the names of those who disrupted the process with their pictures have been revealed and the party will ensure their prosecution.

The governorship primaries of the APC in the state was stalled due to violence following speculations that the process had been compromised.

Agents at the primaries disrupted the process, forcing security agents to cordon off the voting area to secure the ballot boxes and papers.

“I can assure you that the individuals who took part in disrupting of the exercise in Ekiti had been fully identified and we know the people they represented at the event. If we find them to be culpable accordingly, their principals which they represented will be disqualified from the exercise and the individuals that participated in disrupting the exercise will be fully prosecuted. That is what I can tell you at the moment,” Mr Abdullahi said.

He did not state the next step the party would take on the truncated process

Mr Abdullahi however revealed that the NWC would meet on Monday night to consider the report submitted by Governor Al-Makura and his committee while other decisions will be made known.

Speaking on demands by some aspirants for a new primary and scrapping of the committee, he said this is unlikely to happen given the time-frame of the party to provide a candidate ahead of the governorship polls. He added that there was no show of incapability on the side of the committee.

In the schedule of activities released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries is expected to end May 14, 2018 with May 15 as the deadline for submission of forms.

“It is unlikely to happen. Don’t forget that we have only one week to submit a candidate’s name to INEC. So, we don’t have sufficient time to begin to set up a new committee. In essence, there is nothing available to us to suggest that the current committee is incapable of carrying out the assignment. So, there will be no reason to change it (committee),” the official added.

Speaking on the allegation that the process was monetised by some aspirants, Mr Abdullahi said: “If we consider the report and find anything that may have contributed to the disruption of the process by what you have said, of course, we will take appropriate decision. At the moment, we don’t have anything to suggest that it was part of what disrupted the exercise.”

​Community members in Agege area of Lagos state have reacted after a popular youth was murdered on his birthday.

Details of how a popular youth among the members of Hausa community identified as Musty Sokoto was shot dead at a birthday party held in the Agege area of Lagos State have emerged.

According to reports, Musty was known among the members of Hausa community in Agege for his philanthropy gestures towards others.

It was gathered that guests scampered for safety immediately the hoodlums stormed the party and shot him at a close range.

The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after killing their target.

A witness who didn’t want to be named said,

“It was like a scene from the movies when the fierce-looking men stormed the party and shot the celebrator (celebrant) dead.

“The young man was dancing with friends on the occasion when he was shot dead and his killers escaped from the scene as guests scampered into safety in nearby buildings.

“Although, the reason for his gruesome killing is unknown, but the late Musty was such an unassuming boy and did not keep bad company. Even the party he organised to mark his birthday was a small bash attended by his friends and associates.”

Reacting to the sad incident, Alhaji Tanko Abideen, a community leader, urged the police to arrest the murderers as well as beef up security in Agege and environ.

He said, “I am urging the police to fish out Musty’s killers and unravel the mystery behind his gruesome death.

“The police should also put in place a proactive surveillance of Agege community and fish out criminal gangs who might be killing innocent residents in the neighbourhood.”

Authorities in Mexico say the Europa League trophy has been recovered after it was briefly stolen in the central city of Leon.

The Guanajuato state prosecutor’s office confirmed on Twitter, that the trophy was reported stolen from a vehicle that was transporting it after an unspecified event in the city.

The office posted a photo of the silver cup kept inside a cloth-lined case.

It did not immediately provide more details on Friday.

The competition is in its semi-final stage.

The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, has said the institution may involve the police to verify a telephone conversation involving Prof. Richard Akindele and the student of the institution.

Professor Akindele was said to have asked a female student for sex in order to help her pass her exams.

The VC speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday said the university might involve the police to get to the root of the matter if the investigation committee runs into a hitch.

He said, “We have a committee that is investigating the matter now and we gave them one week to submit their report. If we run into any hitch, we can use all the resources available to get to where we are going. But once things are running smoothly, we may not need to involve the police.

“But we must first identify those involved and where they are; if we have any problem doing that, then that is when the university will invite the police.

“The committee’s one week will elapse by Wednesday. We will brief you about it. I need to state that we have excellent relationship with the police, the DSS and others.”

Some years ago, I remember vividly my wife complained about her phone which was not working well anymore due to battery 'ish' and distaste, so she was stylishly demanding for a new phone.

Each time the phone make a mess, she get sad and i always feel like getting her a new phone forthwith.

We both lived side by side in ogbomoso for few years. We were great friends.

One day, a foolish argument caused a rift between us. This was the first serious disagreement we both had in our 4years of friendship.

Up until that day, we always share pleasant moments together, shared knowledge and lent a helping hand to one another in times of need.

The fight began over a small misunderstanding, which can sometimes happen, but the dispute dragged on and became an angry exchange of words, following by months of silence and malice.

One day, my wife asked of him from me and demand we end our differences. I got angry and shuddered it away. I told her I don't want to have anything to do with him again.

My wife thought quietly to herself for few minutes, looking at me and eventually said "I see"

Days later, she rang me in the evening while she was returning from work as a surprise to meet her In a 'casual restaurant with varied menu'. I was glad that she was taking me out for dinner.

I got there. It was a lovely place. At the same time, my friend happened to had showed up too at the same place and same time.

I was looking around in search of where my wife was seated when we both beamed each other. In few seconds; He walked to me, and embrace me.

He said: "You're something special. Inviting me here after all I have said and done".

I was speechless as I was emotional; wondering what he meant by "inviting him over". But I didn't place much concern in those words as I felt I had missed something. I missed him.

He was braver than I am, stronger and wiser to break and destroy the "wall" between us.

While we were hugging. I saw my wife standing just there at the entry.

As we both looked at her, she wanted to walk away when we both said " Please stay"

She'd informed him to meet me at the restaurant using my phone the previous day and deleting the message sent.

She built the bridge and destroyed the wall.

We often let anger push us away from our loved ones, and allow pride to come before our love. Don’t let it happen to you. Learn to forgive and appreciate what you have.

The past cannot be changed; but the future can be. No quarrel can spoil a true connection.

Nigeria’s Suwaibidu Galadima on Friday won gold in the men’s T47 100m at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

T47 is a disability sports classification for athletes with disability, primarily for competitors with a wrist or below amputation.

Galadima recorded a time of 11.04 seconds to win his first prize.

James Arnott from England won silver with a time of 11.30 seconds while Jamaica’s Tevaughan came third to win bronze with a time of 11.63 seconds.

The team Nigeria is no 8 on the medal table with 8 gold, five silver and five bronze.

My service year experience can be related to the processes involved in the making of gold, which we all love - from fire to glitters.

Oh! Pardon my ill manners. My name is Aruleba Damilare Olamide, an ex Kebbi State corp member Batch B, 2016).

Just like every prospective corp member whose call up letter points to the Northern part of Nigeria, I was torn apart. "Kebbi State! Of all the states in Nigeria! How many ancestors did I offend!" I screamed, as I quickly searched out the Nigerian map on my Android smartphone. I had never been so serious reading the Nigerian map before.

Knowing that I would have to travel to the extreme of Nigeria made me wish I was dreaming, but reality was so adamant that it wouldn't give way for my dream wishes to come true.

Without wasting time, I ransacked the internet, looking for other "ill-fated" protective corp members like myself to be travel partners with. With luck on my side, I found many Whatsapp groups and I was quick to make friends. The mobilization countdown began.

Fast forwarded to the day I had to leave for camp, I woke up as early as 4am (as if I even slept. Lol). I was on an emotional merry-go-round that had happiness and sadness seating on different seats - Yay! I'm going to camp! - at Kebbi state? Oh no!

Funny enough, I never got on the same bus with those friends I made from Whatsapp; I found other PCMs on the bus I was and we all told our sad stories.

The journey to Kebbi was so far that if not that I saw sand everywhere, I'd have asked the driver if he was driving us to heaven. We arrived at Niger State and I checked my map with a smile on my face. "Kebbi is next," I said loudly. I never knew what the miles ahead looked like.

My parents called me three times (with three hours between each time) and I replied their "where are you?" questions with "Niger State." At this point, I thought to sleep, but what I saw next put my sleeping faculty on caffeine. I saw a camel! I only saw them in books and on TV - I was so happy to see a live camel that I totally forgot that I couldn't feel my butts.

If Jackie Chan was on that vehicle, he'd be glad to have met a die-hard fan; I had practised all the styles he used in the drunken master because my butt and legs were numb.

After driving for hours, we arrived at Koko Besse, where we took another car to Dankingari. After about an hour now driving, we got the NYSC camp. Guys, this camp was so beautiful that I didn't think about all the travel stress I went through.

The three weeks I spent in the camp came and passed quicker than I thought and I had to go to my PPA. I was posted to Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

And the real struggle began...

I had a rough beginning, trying to blend with a totally different culture - the language; dos and don'ts; food ( After eating rice in Kebbi, it was like my anus lost its "hold" button - for three days, I visited the toilet more than I blinked). Did I tell you I drank more than 10 satchets of water everyday without peeing? It was hell.

Soon enough, things changed, gradually. Before I could say "Jack Robinson," I feel in love with that way of life that once disgusted me. Serving in the North soon became something I was proud to tell people about.

I was able to know that Hausas are hard working people - an average Hausa man has entrepreneurship tattooed on his mind. I enjoyed discussing with them because although most didn't go to school, they have a sound business mind.

Never judge a Hausa man by his looks, I was jaw-dropped when a 24-looking Hausa guy walked to me to help him check his balance on an ATM. That afternoon, I had just returned from my PPA and I was zombified and so hungry that my economics textbook looked like bread to me, so I had to use the ATM.

After waiting for a period of time that seemed like forever to me, with this guy in his torn clothes and slippers branded with "channel O's" almost having to read a "How to operate an ATM for Dummies" manual before he could use the machine.

Finally, he gave up, turning to me for help. "Mai gida, balance" was all he said to me, which I clearly understood. Without wasting time, I asked for his pin and I clicked on the "check balance" option. What I saw almost made me exclaim. He had 1,546,000 (not made up) in his account . It was like I received an OTA respect update for him, because I had just 10,000 naira in my account, but I looked like I could buy him.

I attended RCCF and NCCF and these fellowship put my music life on steroids. Just like myself, I met music thespians in both fellowships and this exposed me to a whole new level of cool, musically.

I soon made a Hausa friend who had the passion to learn the English Language, and since I'd love to learn the Hausa language too, we brought the barter system back to life. This brought me more fun, because to some extent, I could understand it when Hausas communicated.

Things are so cheap that at times, I spent only hundred naira to prepare stew. Oh! About stew, I was taught to cook by some other female Corp members who didn't want me to end my life as a junkie. I was posted along side 9 ladies to my lodge, and they were wonderful to me. They thought me so many kitchen-related stuff.

Kebbi State was more than I had imagined; aside from the really hot weather that made me and every other corp member sleep outside at times (which we loved because we got to share stories), Kebbi was altogether awesome.

I never regretted serving in the North because it brought me many blessings. I had out-of-the-world experiences.

If you got posted to the North, don't feel bad. Seize every opportunity when you get there. Also, relate with the people. Some look like they are poor, but they are connected to the people in power. You never know what form that help you need may take.
