Been following this page, it's been indeed helpful for my B1/B2 visa interview, which held last friday. I have an issue, which I wish to know if anyone has encountered.
I was given a white paper, after my visa interview which i attended as a family with my Mum. The VO informed us that our application had been approved and we should expect to pick up the passport in abuja in a few days.
Subsequently i received an email with a notice to collect my mums Passport at DHL but did not get any notice email for mine.I decide to check the visa status of both mine and mum. Her visa status is ISSUED but mine says Administrative Processing, Last updated a day after the successful interview.
This is not my first US visa, but its the first time i have encountered this issue. Please, what does this mean? Does it mean the decision has changed from the Interview, Do I still have a chance? Or is it a denial?
For the interview, the transcript is as follows:
VO: Good morning and please pass me your passport .
Me/Mum: Good morning (Hands over docs).
VO: Takes Biometrics for Both of Us.
VO: I can see you are The Mum.
Mum: Yes sir.
VO: She is your Mum Me: Yes Please,
VO: Where do you work Me/Mum: I am a Civil Servant At the Central Bank, I work at The Bureau of Public Enterprise
VO: Do you have other children
Mum: Yes sir.I have 3 other children all in school. 2 in the USA and 1 in High School.
VO: what are you going to do in USA Me: I intend to travel in the summer for a short holiday and to visit my 2 kids in the process.
VO: Begins typing for a few minutes (nodes, brings out a white paper ) your visa application is good to go and has been approved. We will send you a mail inq couple of days when to pick up your passport when visa is issued.
From my little research, the VO ought to have informed you if AP will be required on your application. Since he/she didn’t, please be positively hopeful…
“ Overview. Refusal under section 221(g) means that essential information is missing from an application or that an application requires additional administrative processing. The consular officer who interviews you will tell you at the end of your interview if your case is being refused under 221(g).”

All looked good at the interview stage…give it a couple of days…
I looked it up, by the way… “Administrative processing, also known as Security Advisory Opinion (SAO), is the time period during which visa applications undergo additional review outside of the “normal” visa processing times. Administrative processing takes place after the visa interview.“

No, the touts at the car park. Let me share my experience yesterday. The guy approached me immediately i alighted and asked if i had all the documents with me. I, of course, ignored him. He then became a nuisance and followed me about listing the documents...I'll quote him "you need the following documents, DS160 page, visa receipt, passport, 2 passport photos, coloured photocopies of DS160 and datapage of passport. It's coloured copies they are collecting o. Let them not send you back.". I knew the Consulate wasn't insisting on coloured photocopies...but i didn't make a copy of my datapage and that gave me a concern. So i asked him of the cost of making a photocopy...he replied "N1,000 for coloured and N700 for black and white per page". Since i was submitting for myself, wife and kids...i felt it was waste of money paying N4k for just 4 copies...He kept shouting "they will send you back o...you will have to get another appointment". I screamed back at him "back to sender"...lol
Alas, no one asked for either coloured copies or even a copy of the datapage when i got in to submit....
Let's ask all our questions here...i'll rather sound stupid here and get an answer than rely on an agent or a tout who is just after personal gains...
oab1: Are you referring to agents that help with IW dates or which touts are you referring to? Why do you warn against them? Just want to know if something happened you can share with us
You people's knack for documents sef. No documents are required...prepare for an oral interview...justify the need for your trip. Why vacation in the US? Why not UK, Dubai or other tourist locations in Nigeria and Africa? Convince the VO that you aren't a potential migrant...Dat's all...
Transporter52: Good morning fam. These are documents needed for business. What are additional documents needed for tourist visa? Thank you
You’ve said it all. The DS160 confirmation page, your appointment letter, your passport, GTB receipt for visa payment, one passport photo (approved size)…
Any other documents you may need to buttress your reason for traveling…(as stated in my previous response).
Best of luck
Lordkross: So sorry, I probably didn't frame my question well.
I was talking about like the DS 160 form, the Appointment Confirmation, my passport and things like that for the interview.
It is written to come with the confirmation and some other docs, just wanted to know the other documents needed for the interview.
I have my backup docs, just to be sure the embassy required docs outside my backup.
The short answer is that no documents are required but there’s an explanation. Since you are going on a business trip, how well acquainted are you to the business? Are you going to meet business partners? Are you attending a business conference? What have you been doing that relates to that line of business? Can you go elsewhere and achieve same objectives-why America? Gather documents that help you answer the questions above and revise them… It’ll be an interview and you have to convince the VO that the trip isn’t for immigration purposes but strictly a short business trip…
Please I need your help because I have up until this moment done everything on my own.
I applied for a B1/B2 Visa in June, 2021 and was given a date for October, 2022 which I protested and eventually got April, 2022.
My question is, what are the required documents I need to prepare for this day so I can arrange everything from now while I wait for the said date because I don't want to miss anything or even experience any form of extortion from those guys outside.
Note, it's a B1/B2 Visa, but strictly for business.
Server overload may be responsible for the incessant “session timed out” on the DS160 portal…I doubt if it’s responsible for lack of appointment dates…
oab1: I'm not sure this fully explains the issue because even when you call the embassy customer service they tell you there is no appointment.
No o…don’t bother. In fact, the listed documents are returned to you straightaway once they vet them. Don’t take any extra documents. They also only need *one passport photo*
Nikanne: The appointment confirmation page states to only come with documents listed there. Is there any need to take account statements and letter of introduction from my office. Just wondering please
Just dropped my documents (IW) at the consulate about 6 minutes ago…I was scheduled for 6.45am… process was smooth…please ignore the touts…I repeat, ignore the touts. Ask all your questions here…
Well, the situation is different now with lack of available dates at every location. One can always argue that he picked Canada since he’ll be there as a visitor around that date…these are unusual times… My daughter is a student there, so that one explains itself…
ehiremen2002: I am only worried, it might be difficult tosecure US visa as a visitor in Canada. The last time we tried with Mum, they ask why didnt you apply from your home country.
The interview with mom was not too stressful, because my bros was with her and help her answer most of the question.
True. In fact there are no available interview dates in some Provinces e.g. Alberta. Got an October 2022 date for my daughter but was able to get August 2022 after incessant ‘checking’… Getting US interview appointments is not easy nowadays o
ehiremen2002: Dampops, you are correct. I filled a new DS160, and tried to schedule appointment, available slot in Ottawa is sometime in 2023. I didnt continue as we will have to make another payment. I will try again if I get lucky for a slot in Lagos before end of march when popsy plans to travel to Canada.
I also know of a friend, she is a student in Canada. She initially booked 2023 during the xmas. however she have been able to reschedule now to next two weeks in BC.
The American visa process is interview based and not document-based like the UK or Canada. You must be able to convince the Visa officer orally why your application should be approved…. You can take documents along if they give you confidence but they aren’t needed…from my experience
naxee9294: ohhh so but what about the invitation is it needed?
Of course, you can try in Canada…you may have to fill another DS160 (since you must’ve picked Nigeria in the current one). However I’ll tell you that the dates in Canada depending on the province are from February 2023…
ehiremen2002: I just booked my dad application and he got Jan 9th 2024. And he is planning to visit Canada end of march. Is there any way we can get early interview date before end of march?
Another question, if we arent able to get appointment in Nigeria. Can we try in Canada, during his visit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1owUi9XRB8 First video of the year and I did something different this time around, I traveled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria for a tour of Abeokuta, I visited the Ake Palace ground, the first church in Nigeria, the Centenary hall and the famous Olumo Rock. I also included our customary flight trip. I organize trips like this all over West Africa. I Hope you enjoyed the video! This is good news. Hopefully, folks that submitted today should get a feedback by Friday next week…hopefully
[ quote author=dixja post=110147009]My wife submitted her passport for IW on the 2nd of February and got it back on Monday. It took only 5 days.[/quote]
The first set of people for the IW trial phase submitted their passports on January 12th...they are yet to get back their passports. They will give us an idea of how long it'll take...
megastu: Yeah, Thanks i got that.... that is the maximum time. I am asking for anyone who has submitted and received their passport back.
We are all reacting to the email from the consulate…you can err on the caution by filling a new form if it’s over 6 months…
Godson123: Please does this applies to someone who has filled for interview since July last year although for the first time, interview is in march 2022 do I need to update my profile too. Kindly note this is my first time am applying for visit visa. Thanks
Sorry about that...life itself is 'bittersweet' just like your username. Fingers crossed, you'll be good by Monday or earlier...It'll be sweet, eventually
BitterSweet: I'm so sad. I forgot i used a different email for my login and i tried the wrong one twice by the time i put in the correct one i got a message that i have been suspended for 72 hours because of suspicious activity. After March i will no longer be eligible for IW. I have been checking for dates all week and nothing pops up. Tried all advice gotten on the page, nothing, now i am on suspension. I really hope i get a date when my account is back up.
Each person applying for a visa has to pay his/her visa fee and complete the DS160 form...
The procedure is to pay your visa fee and fill the DS160 form. Afterwards, you try to book an interview on the website (www.ustraveldocs.com/ng)
These should help...
barryken: Please I need help on how to get about this My mum want to visit my brother in the US and he want me to travel with her because she can't speak English My question is Do we both need to fill the da 160? Do we both need to pay the visa fee? What are the procedures? How do I go about the whole thing? Your answer would be highly appreciated Thanks
Few months to passport expiry, you can initiate plans for another one. You will then take the two passports along for your interview
Thamesbridge: I paid visa fee this morning and got appointment just now. The appointment is feb 2023. My challenge is that my passport will expire in January 2023. Please gurus advise me on what to do
