Emperordynasty:Where in Benin? Any pictures? And what land document? |
Emperordynasty:Domingos Can I send the account to an email address? |
Dannydavito:He was acquitted. No jail. If prosecutors had charged him for manslaughter, he might have gone to jail. The gloves that didn't fit made murder conviction too big and too unsafe. Only years later he went to jail for alleged robbery/kidnap. He wanted to foolishly go and retrieve old memorabilia. When he should have known the powers that be have been waiting for any slight opportunity to nail him for anything. |
1. Oduduwa. 2. Oba Ozolua. 3. Ogiame of Warri. The original crown was stolen before coronation of this current Ogiame. 4. Queen Amina. 5. Oba Orhogbua. |
Yes, they are ALL still important. Some are taught in some areas but funding is poor. Economically, these languages are still used in rural areas (where over 50% of Nigerians still live) for communication and commerce. Yes, ready to learn more for free or even pay. Personally, certainly for Edo/Benin (and other Edoid languages like Urhobo/Isoko, Esan, Afemai, etc) Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. BUT colonial mentality and elitist behaviour of educated parents make them believe that English is superior. It is not. Seun, Myndd and mods, FT please. This is about our culture. |
MzansiCoolio:Lol |
Mkpirimiri-Ewedu mixed breed. A very Southern Nigerian breed. ![]() |
mrvitalis:Correct. Moonlight and firefly light will do. Wonderful! Your friend David Mark once said so about analogue landline phones. But God don shame am since. GSM came and smartphones followed. |
Emu4life:My dear, they are o. In Edo, the soup was not even called egusi by locals. My late grandma wouldn't have known what egusi meant. It's called ogi soup in Edo. Or ikpogi (ogi seeds). It can be cooked with cotton wool leaves, scented leaves, bitter leaves, water leaf, pumpkin leaf, veg leaf, young cocoa tree (not cocoyam) leaves, etc. Can even be blended with freshly plucked oziza (black pepper) leaves depending on season and delicacy desired. She had no idea what ugwu leaf meant. Edo call it umwenken leaf. She did not know about ogbono. She knew it as ohere. We had ogbono/ohere trees that were like 70 years old in Edo back then. She used to dry and crack the ohere pods open. She died in the 1970s. When Igbo began opening restaurants, being highly migratory, and pidgin became more widespread in urban areas, you began hearing igbo names of various soups. Suddenly they say they all belong to igbo. Na wa o. |

In Jennyclay's voice " this is an oppressed woman. She did it under duress. We need to liberate her". ![]() God bless her and her home. |
The whole story nor pure at all. |
Walai:OBJ once said that even Jesus as president can't fix 9ja because it's way beyond one good or bad leader. Leaders come and go, strong institutions grow stronger. Which health minister has drastically improved health care in 9ja since 1999? All have been largely medical profs or professionals. Eyitayo Lambo, an economist, was only non-medical health minister and was in OBJ's second tenure. He launched NHIS. No health minister had managed to do so for decades. Despite promises. His work at WHO, despite being non-medic was vital though. |
bestman09:Dude in countries with a good civil service and strong institutions, a person without even a degree can be minister of anything: Finance, health, foreign affairs, etc. Ministries have experts to handle the operations. The minister only ensures that the political agenda of the government is implemented and co-ordinated. He provides leadership, not necessarily the subject expertise. Anybody with political and leadership acumen can be posted to be minister of any ministry. Check all the ministers in various advanced countries. |
If you don't do DNA test on your kids na you know. |
DavSagacity:That's why those frowners with entitlement mentality will never go far in anything except slack vj and high body count without productivity. ![]() |
Later when the guy shows her more love, they will say she's using juju. God bless her marriage. |
aribisala0:Lol, who will stop Olubadan if he chooses to a wear beaded crown in his palace or anywhere in 2024? ![]() But we still need to have a historical perspective to educate people. If anything, it's kudos to Ibadan people how they managed to be punching so much above their weight almost since it was founded. In Nigeria today, the main categorisation is the obaship class. Everybody dey hin dey, my brother. |
aribisala0:I guess he is referring to history. Ibadan was a Ba'ale stool until less than 100 years ago, about 1930. It's not one of the old royal stools like Alaafin, Awujale, etc. Since Ibadan gained political prominence after fall of Oyo and during colonial era, the stool grew influential too. Being a young town and stool that began as a Ba'aleship by largely exiles, warriors and such, it was easier to institute a more egalitarian system than in the more ancient monarchies. The number is large at 42 monarchs including the Ba'ales because the system runs in a way that people tend to be old before they reach the top of the civil/Olubadan or the warrior/Balogun tree to ascend. They hardly stay more than 10 years. This is the third Olubadan to ascend since 2016. But today, Olubadan is a first class monarch and that's it. |
IBB007:With economics and geography. Biology and Agric follow behind. |
oz4real83:Bolded is not always true. If she is confronted with the allegation of cheating and denies it, she is made to swear an oath to the ancestors. Yes, some are wicked enough to deny and swear. In that case, it will likely kill her. There are also sub-clans where the women may have trouble during child birth. Some only confess at that point. She may or may not survive it. Remember that traditionally, the wife typically has no blood ties with the ancestors of her hubby, whereas her children and hubby do. The taboo is typically to ancestors of the man and the earth/land/homestead. While the woman is only bound by marriage ritual/rites (which proper traditional divorce can undo), her children and hubby are forever bound by blood to their ancestors. So they bear the consequences. |
Ofunaofu:No. They/APC said 216 to a dollar was too weak that GEJ was clueless and should go. They also opposed subsidy removal. It must go to below 216 or APC and goons are the clueless ogogoro drinking, shoeless, certificateless age-forging retards. |
SPAMBOX7:In Edoid culture, which Isoko belongs to, if you have paid dowry on your wife and traditionally married her, some taboos apply. If your wife cheats and you are unaware, the land/earth and ancestors may protect you as you are innocent of her nefarious deeds. She may instead suffer or her children may suffer. But if you as the hubby know and you do not perform the needed rituals of cleansing and atonement, you hide it and keep EATING her food and SLEEPING with her, you yourself have joined your wife to commit taboo. You must stop accepting any wifely or marital duties from her until cleansing is done. Remember that in the Bible, if Adam had not joined Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, God might have had a second thought about punishing mankind. Once you become aware of her infidelity, don't eat her food and don't sleep with her. Why punish her kids you may ask? Even the Bible talks about visiting the iniquity of father upon their children and even beyond. Also, if a woman cheats, chances are that she has brought bastards into the household. One reason women who know the culture drag their hubby into church is to be far away from that culture as much as possible. Guess what? That gives the women licence to fvck around with pastor and church members under his nose. That is the ultimate goal of most women nowadays: pretend to be holy holy, fool hubby and mess around. As it is now, there is really no need for marriage. Have your 2 kids with any woman/women ready and that's it. |
Bluntemperor:GEJ could not implement it leading up to election. You plan things to do in first term and things to do if given a second term. GEJ wasn't as clueless as people thought. Tinubu hurriedly implemented these current harsh policies in the hope that dust will have settled before next election cycle. That's politics. But for Shittu to say they were not aware of Oronsaye report means APC were not ready to rule in 2015. They were just a bigoted bunch with "na we own Nigeria" mentality lambasting everything GEJ did. Or he's just a shameless liar. |
Beverlyjean:Ngannou v. Fury fight finally confirmed it. We thought only WWF and the likes were exhibition fights those days. |
