Print media is not longer as profitable. The internet is taking over. As for those you are debasing 234next because of its financial woes, you have to realize that Nigerian businesses do not advertise on media outlets that challenge the status quo. That's because most Nigerian businesses large enough to advertise on print media depend a lot on government patronage. They are not going to advertise on a media outlet that challenges the status quo. The Nigerian media is a joke. I still remember how they refused to air tv ads by Buhari and Shekarau. As for Shekarau they told him that they will only air his ad if NTA creates with their cameras. Nigerians are so used to being belittled and abused that it seems that we are used to it. It will take a lot to get the Nigerian people enraged. |
efisher:hahahahahaha I just believe in data driven objective analysis. |
PointB I think that IGR is very very important. It shows a state's ability to stay afloat in the event there is a shortfall of revenue from the Niger Delta. It shows whether a region can stand on its two feet without federal government assistance. It shows whether a region is a parasite or an asset. Saying that there is a no problem with the low IGR from the SE or any other region in Nigeria for that matter is completely disingenuous. Every state in Nigeria should be economically and financially viable. It is sad that most of the states were not created with economic and financial viability in mind. Most of them wait hat in hand for money from the federal government. |
@ekt_bear I have published a spreadsheet on google https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0AuwJBs8n5jZvdGp1UXVFNkpPNWpyOHI0Sl9TYnJHNUE&single=true&gid=0&output=html nolongTing, I got my numbers from ekt_bear via this link https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-798788.0.html#msg9506962 Below is a better visual presentation:

Dont worry. These numbers have to be annual. Nigeria is too poor for these numbers to be monthly. |
are these numbers monthly or annual? |

I was shocked when I found out that Patience Jonathan has a university degree. I actually thought she had a primary 3 education. No kidding. |
Why are so many states in Nigeria so economically unviable? Most of them sit down on their lazy behinds waiting for Niger Delta oil money at the end of the month. This is just plain pathetic. |
Beaf have you been paid yet? |

Hmmm, I am surprised that Uncle Jona and Fi Di Fi did not get their way. |
Oga Fashola needs to look into the financial aid structure of American Universities. In the US, although tuition is set at a certain number, not everyone pays the same amount. There are scholarships and also need based financial aid. The amount of financial assistance a student receives is usually based on his or her parents income/assets, how old the parents are, and the number of dependents that rely on the parents income. In some schools in the US students whose parents make below a certain amount go to school tuition free. While students whose parents are wealthy pay as much $50,000. If we are going to provide our children with a world class university education, then people who can pay the full cost of the education should pay the full cost. I am sure that it costs the government far more than N250,000 to educate a student at LASU. We can have a system where tuition is free for students whose parents make less than N1,000,000 (combined income) annually. For students whose parents make above that, tuition can be set based on their parents income bracket with higher income brackets paying more and lower income brackets paying less. The maximum amount can be set at N1 million or even N2 million for high income parents and foreign students. Some of the best universities in the world cost as much as $50,000 a year for tuition room and board. Nigerians need to understand that a good education costs money to provide. It is about balancing the cost of providing a good education with the need to provide equal access to both high income and low income Nigerians. |
You hit the nail on the head. Nigeria does not only need political and industrial revolutions. We also need a cultural revolution. |
@ alj_harem Thanks for the clarification. |
Kobojunkie:Hahahhahahahahaaha this school here is just too bad. |
On a more serious note, I know that it is easy to sensationalize this horrible looking school. However, we must remember that Nigeria is a poor country with limited resources. The three most important factors controllable by government are as follows: 1. The teacher 2. The curriculum 3. Teaching Aid (Notebooks, textbooks, Chalkboard, Pens etc). As long as the above three are provided, any child can learn. It does not matter if a child is home schooled, as long as he or she has a good teacher, a solid curriculum, and good teaching aid, the child will excel. We must remember that Yaradua built brand new school buildings in Kastina but Kastina still had the worst Common Entrance and WAEC results in the country. Nonetheless, this does not excuse the poor state of this school. The government has dropped the ball on education big time. To fix this, we must begin by bringing dignity back to the teaching profession and providing our kids with the tools they need to learn. Although I think that good teachers, strong curricula, and excellent teaching aids should be the first priority, our schools still need to be conducive places to learn. The roofing of that school for example will making it impossible students to learn during the raining season. In Nigeria we have taken our standard of what should be the "bare minimum" to an extreme. The bare minimum for a school building should be good roofing with no leaks, hygienic environment, cross ventilation, chalk board, enough desks and chairs, and not more than X kids in a classroom. With that you are good to go. This school building falls below what the bare minimum should be and it is unfortunate. |

Buhari understands that a man with one bullet only shoots when he has a clear shot. I am happy that Buhari has come out of hiding.
