every religion uses something to depict God and connect with him, it doesnt mean they arr worshiping that object. the traditionalist use carved object while the god is buried underneath, same thing with budhims, jewish, moslems bow to an empty space

they see it in the bible but as scriptures are subject to interpretation, they have an alternative interpretation of that scripture. they interprete it that the scripture does not refer to due worship to God or reverence for sacramentals that symbolize God. anything in the heavens could be an image of the moon or star etc.

The typical catholic man who bows before the cross bows to God and not the cross. He only uses the cross as a symbol. Symbolism is quite complex and a little of it is in all of us.

haven't you seen people using their bibles to block spiritual attacks. that is an example of symbolism. Many people will consider irreverence to the bible or a cross to be sinful. e.g. spitting on a cross or on the bible
