The Price Mechanism Is Self Regulating. If The Price Is Brought Below The Equilibrium Price, Demand Will Increase And Supply Will Decrease. This Will Create Supplus Demand. This Excess Demand Will Instigate Suppliers To Increase Price And Gradually, The Price Will Move Straight Back To The Market/ Equilibrium Price. It Is Just Rational Economics. The Cycle Will Continue Like That. In A Full Blown Free Market Economies Of The World, Govt Will Have To Intervene because The Poor And The Poor Of The Poorest. Capitalism Enlarges D Gap Btw D Rich N D Poor. This Is Why We Advocate For A Welfare State!

Dude, you are speaking grammar. Get the govt out of the oil and gas market so that other players can get in the game this way there is more competition in the market place which goes on furthermore to reduce prices shikena. How difficult is it to inderstand? The more competition there is in the market place, the better for consumers. But when the govt decides to interfere like they do in nigeria and begin to decide not only who the players are but who the winners and losers are then you have what we are currently experiencing in Nigeria now.

I can't be wrong. The reality on ground is that the refineries are owned by the federal government. The original question is how to salvage the situation to avert fuel shortages and prevent this perennial queues during festive period. We are thinking of solution in the interim and probably in the next 18 months, new refineries will come on board. We are reliably informed that modular refineries are in the pipeline and also Dangote is putting one in place.
When we talk of market forces, we are referring to the interaction between demand and supply. This will produce an equilibrium price. This market price may be too high for the poor masses. So, government intervenes using, in most cases two mechanisms; subsidies and price control. Please I want you to settle down and read something on Keynesian economics. I am convinced you will learn a lot on welfarism. This is what we have termed evolving a SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC STATE. Thank you. Please read some of my stories on Facebook, shoemohmoh gabriel.

First of all, what right does the govt have to tell a business what price to sell his products in the first place?
Secondly, If the costs of production are higher than the selling price (the price that the govt fixes) how will businesses survive?
Lastly, please tell me where price controls have ever worked and I will be waiting.

Since it is only marriage certificate can ascertain that one is actually married based on if one wants to do certain things that required marriage certificate, and we all know that no certificate is been issued in traditional marriage... My question now is, does it mean traditional marraige alone is not recorgnise in our society, and is it possible for one to obtain certicate without court or church wedding? If yes, how

So before white people came to Africa, marriages were not valid and bimding?

Mr. Man is it by force to marry? The man was not ready to marry from that family simple...

See logic! The fact that I don't earn a million naira for a bride price does not mean that one is not ready to marry it might simply mean that it is way beyond his budget. You don't need to have a million to to live day to day as husband and wife. You can cut your cloth according to your size. If the bride price is more than your budget then that's plain cruelty.

the Nigerian tax system has not advanced to the extent of handing of every government business owned entity.

Wrong! There was never a state run oil and gas company in the US.
Secondly, all those countries you are mentioning are a big mess like Venezuela, Russia and even China. While the UAE is just a very small country so you can't compare them to Nigeria. So learn your facts.
As for taxation, whose fault is it that Nigeria has not developed a strong tax system while the British were able to do this pre-1960? Abeg stop blaming excuses for this people because where there is a will, thete is a way. Nigeria's problem is that they make so much money that they don't even bother collecting taxes just like Saudi Arabia and those other middle eastern cou.tries and this is what holds those countries back for the people are not involved. If the govt was hitting their income for taxes believe you me they would be concerned about what is done with that money if they are not seeing results.

That is where you are very wrong. This suggestion will jeopardize the entire economy. You can't allow full deregulation of the downstream now. Govt owns all the refineries. No private refineries yet. Even in the US ,government intervenes to cushion the effect of free enterprise on the poor. If the marketers are permitted to import fuel, without intervention from the govt, I want you yourself to imagine what will happen. In an economy like ours, privatization is a gradual process or else many will suffer.
So, according to you, if the landing price of fuel is 171; how much do you think the marketers will sell? My brother, you will kill Nigerians while some will be smiling to the bank on a daily basis. Pls, go and read the theory of privatization and deregulation and we can start over.

You are so wrong on many levels. First of all, govt should not own any refineries, they should have sold them and also allowed other foreign companies to build their refineries. That's the reason why Nigeria imports petrol despite the fact that we are one one of the largest producers in the world. If Exxon Mobil had been allowed to build their own refinery in Nigeria they won't have to send it to Asia to refine shikena.

Secondly, if the govt gets out of the industry, it will let market forces set the price of oil and will lead to greater competition thereby reducing prices further.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has reshuffled the state executive council. The changes, according to a statement from the Kaduna Government House, was due to the vacancy created following the death of the Commissioner of Education, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok.

The statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on media, Samuel Aruwan, announced the appointment of two new commissioners, Mrs. Ruth Geoffrey Alkali, for Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and Dr. Ibrahim Hamza, for the Ministry of Water Resources.

Three commissioners were moved to new ministries.

They are Dr Manzo Maigari from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Tourism to the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry, Professor Kabir Mato from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to the Ministry for Local Government, Ja’afaru Sani, from the Ministry for Local Government to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Balabara Aliyu-Inuwa, from the Ministry of Rural and Community Development to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport and Hassan Usman Mahmud, from Works, Housing and Transport to the Ministry of Rural and Community Development.

The statement said Alhaji Shehu Balarabe, Commissioner for Stakeholder Relations in the Governor’s Office, is reassigned as a Commissioner in the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.

Engineer Suleiman Aliyu Lere, former Commissioner of Water Resources, was however dropped.

Until allocations are cut off this country this people will not see the essence of reducing the size of govt.

kindly do the maths.

the only way forward is for NNPC to be the sole importer, because if you give a special dollar rate to importers, we will have them selling it.

Its high time ,the federal government reviewed the exchange rate to around 240 naira to a dollar, as i believe we have saved considerably.
the should also think of increasing tax on certain imported items to the tune of 80% to enable local competition.
finally DPR needs to up their game on tracking of diverted products.they really messed up this festive period

Absolutely Wrong! The way forward is for the govt to sell off NNPC, NLNG and all the state run refineries and let the free market set the prices. This is how things work in developed countries like the U.S. governmental intrusion into the free market systrem all in rhe nsme of looking out for the common man tends to hurt the common man in the long run. Get the Fed govt out of the oil and gas sector now!!

It is because NNPC is the sole importer that is why we have this problem.

Let every marketer import his fuel and NNPC do quality control to ascertain the best fuel for consumption.

Wrong! NNPC should not exist in the first place. It's an avenue to steal money by the corrupt govt. The oil and gas sector should be in private hands. It's state run companies that impede progress and investment into the oil and gas sector.

This Is Where We Expect The Government To Intervene. Social Democracy Is A Postulation Of Welfare Economy. Anything That Increases The Fuel Price Will To Increase In The Prices Of Commodities. This Will Aggravate Cost Push Inflation. This Will Increase The Misery Of The People. More So, We Cannot Go The Way Of Subsidy Because It Will Cost The Government A Lot. And At The End, There Will Be Little For Capital Project. In The Mean Time, LET CBN CONTINUE TO INTERVENE. If NNPC Continue To Import Then We Should Set Up Network To Prevent Saboteurs From The Marketers In Terms Of Distribution. NNPC Uses Their Depots!

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Governmental intrusion into the free market usually end up hurting those it seeks to protect.
What the Fed govt should do is abandon their price controls and currency controls and let the free market dictate things.
While they are at it, they need to sell our refineries and NNPC, and NLNG and watch out economy take off.
If I were in their shoes I will even take it a step further and return from the federal govt back to the people. Do all this and see what happens to the Nigerian economy within a year. Too bad our leaders either don't know what to do or they don't have the courage to do it.

Oh my Goodness! Price controls and currency controls? Now I am truly beginning to understand why the oil and a gas sector is a mess. When will all this third world countries learn from their counterparts in other parts of the world? Price controls and currency controls are counterproductive governmental intrusion into the market place. Let market forces determine the peice of crude, not the govt. But from the account of the first hand witness: the woman herself, she and her husband had to go into debt just to satisfy the whims of the girls parents. Sounds like extortion and profiteering to me. A better solution would have been to agree on a manageable price that is within the couple's financial means not some gargatuan sum that they had to go into debt to pay. As long as the culture doesn't harm or cause retrogression, as long as such culture can exist along side development, it should not be changed for anything

Those who complain about igbo bride price should simply work harder and find the particular igbo woman that is worth it...or move on..this is always an option

Dude the fact that something has been done for thousands of years don't make it right it simply means that people didn't know any bettter like the killing of twins in old calabar.

From some of your posts, I deduce that you are paying your way through school. So who will be paid for your own dowry?

It’s not just bride price. 7 years ago, a guy in our office died in an accident (not on duty) .his family were all about the money. It was very very disgusting. People in the office were sad, and the victims family members were grumbling about insurance money, you must give his brother a job, etc, etc. The whole thing just became an avenue to make money.

I actually believe this hefty bride price issue is one of the reasons the treatment of widows is so vile.

The rest of us cannot understand the commodification of what should be a happy ceremony. All it leads to is people marrying when they are old, as a marriage becomes a financial milestone. I had dated my wife for five years, within four months of getting a good partying job, I got married. If we had been ibo, maybe I would have had to save for another five or six years. Who will wait that long? That on its own means that most ibo women will never marry their first loves, and that most ibo men understand that they will not marry their first loves.i saw one or two cases in school where ibo chicks dumped their boyfriends for wealthier workers. Today I can see it for what it was, pragmatism. It was clear that the wealthy boyfriends would be able to marry within a short while, while it would be a minimum of six years before the bf could even think of getting married.

All of that you must prove you are fit to wed is bs, imho. My ability to spend big money on a ceremony is in no way a measure of my finincial capability. Everyday on NL, people are chastised for planning expensive weddings and drinking garri after.

A marriage is supposed to be for life, while a wedding is for a day.

Please tell them jare.

BRO, GO AND MARRY YOUR YORUBA WOMEN, I MEAN, HER PARENTS WILL FOOT THE WEDDING EXPENSES.

THAT IS WAT U WANT.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, NO IGBO PARENT PRAY TO HAND ANY OF THEIR CHILDREN TO NON IGBO, THEIR DREAM IS THAT THEIR CHILD MARRIES FROM THEIR OWN CULTURE.

ALL CULTURES, INCLUDING RACES HAVE THIS PRINCIPLE. IT IS DEFENSIVE AS THEY ASPIRE TO CONTINUE THEIR CULTURE AND KEEP THEIR IDENTITY.

SO FOR U TO LEAVE YOUR PLACE AND AN IGBO PARENT WEIVE THEIR DREAM AND ALLOW U A FOREIGNER TO MARRY THEIR DAUGHTER, U SHOULD DO SO QUIETLY AND GO AWAY.

Not everyone "leaves their place and looks for a foreigner to marry". Some people simply just run into other people that they are attracted to and who they have chemistry with and that they happen to have chemistry with. That's life and that's part of the human experience. In simpler terms, love just happens and it is a beautiful thing until all the ugliness like greed, prejudice, tradition and tribalism begin to come into play.
No one is born from the womb hating someone of a different tribe, its something they learn from their parents, friends and their society.
