How do they expect students to resume when there is no public release from the management to that effect? All these 'demo' from Ogba Femi sha cheesy
EducationRe-opening Of Universities: OAU Students Desert Campus by Davo93(op): 7:52pm On Dec 02, 2013
Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, in Osun State, on Monday failed to resume for academic activities despite the Federal Government directive for immediate reopening of all federal universities in the country.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the institution, reports that none of the students were seen on campus for possible commencement of academic activities as directed by the Government.

Abiodun Olarenwaju, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, confirmed to NAN that not a single student was on campus “for any reason whatsoever”. He said that the few lecturers on campus were around “for reasons other than academic activities.”

“Sincerely, none of our students show up on campus as of today, but some of the lecturers are around, although they are not coming for any academic activity, they always come around for other reasons.”

“You know our lecturers have not totally deserted the campus like that, many of them still come around to do one or two things in their offices, but no teaching and learning activities.”

Meanwhile, one of the commercial motorcyclists operating within the campus environment, Muraiona Abiola, said that most of their members were suffering due to low patronage since the commencement of the ASUU strike in July.

According to him, the usual heavy patronage by the students has decline since the commencement of the strike, which forced the students to leave the campus abruptly.

Abiola, therefore, called for early resolution of the issues between ASUU and the Federal Government to enable the commercial motorcyclists bounce back to business.

sunnyprof: We looked at the King and not the woman who provoked him to the extend he beats her up. Now you said he was fighting. Lets be considerate, some so called wife of the mighty are devilish and will do anything to tarnish your image. They take whatever they do for granted with the 'Blackmail' trap that because of your position, you can do nothing. That was what happened I suppose...
I doubt if you are from the Yoruba descent...

No matter what may have inspired his commando style, at that point he accepted to be the king of the town, he is bound by some rules and regulations.

He is not expected to have descended SO LOW to the extent of going to his In-law's house to deface his wife with hot ashes. It is not only cruel of any human being that act but highly .... Let me just don't continue. It is a very bad omen for him.

Ogbeche77: yes the former Deji was a disgrace but the kingmakers should have chosen a regent till the oba's demise. Then they can choose a new Deji
Better idea!

Ogbeche77: For this calamity to end, I think the people of Akure should do the right thing, recall the previous Deji of Akure that was dethroned.. If one Oba isn't dead another one shouldn't be ascend the throne . It a tradition, any attempt to float this leads to premature death and further calamities in the land... The people of Owo tried it and failed....
What are you saying friend?? A ruler that stays on the street and extort from citizens should be reinstated? A king that takes possession unlawfully what does not belong to him be it your wife, land or valuables??

Am sorry I don't think so!

By the way, the case of Olowo of Owo that you referred to was a very different issue and a serious one. He wasn't deposed then for behaviours a king isn't expected to exhibit. His dethronement and eventual barnishing had political undertone then. Moreover, the king that was later installed then spent more than 25 years before he 'waja' cheesy. That was when the deposed king came back, at that time, the political heat was almost gone!

He even spent less than 5 years if i am not mistaken before he joined his ancestors too.

AIRTEL NG to me does not have a good adviser on this. I understand it is illegal to use a Blackberry Internet Subscription on Android phones but the time AIRTEL NG is taking this action is odd.

The network is poo in my area and just too bad. I will rather pay to a better network provider to get a smartphone plan live on my Android phone than to pay to AIRTEL NG to subscribe for their crappy smartphone plan.

Oya, porting things on point although i still have two more months on my current plan...

EducationRe: Nairaland Interschool Debate:: WINNER:::: UNN. by Davo93(m): 2:15pm On Nov 30, 2013
Good Afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

Eye-opening essays there from both debaters!

My ignorance lies in the later part of the third paragraph of Chynazom's write-up. You seems to agree with the fact that the government has the right to limit the discussed right.

Granted, the government has the right to restrict this freedom but the ‘Declaration’ does not forget to remind us that a citizen shall be responsible for abuse of this freedom.
Later on, you vehemently argue that the government is not supposed in any way to restrict the freedom of speech. My question now is this, what is the essence of you having a cutlass as a man living in a bushy environment and your not able to use it to cut those weeds around you? I mean, does it mean that the right invested in the government to restrict the freedom of expression sometimes amount to a joke?

Remember, the topic says "It is sometimes right for the government to restrict freedom of speech"

Thanks.

king94: I am a beneficiary of my states' bursary and I will like to define myself as not being the most 'brilliant'. I agree with you on the corruption aspect but the cases are few in student bursaries. Poor average students can have a shot at state bursaries. The increase would also push them to develop themselves so that they can have a shot at private scholarships.
Bursary? How many state pay bursary to students? Even those that pay, how much is it that it will be sufficient for the increased fees you are agitating for?

Let me be a bit pratical here. Ondo State government pays N10,000 as bursary, same thing with Ekiti State. Osun only gives bursary award to students in there final year.

So tell me how effective bursary can be? Infact for those that pay, there is no fixed time for payment. Hence, it may not meet up with the exact time needed.

alutacontinua: The students are not paying to the lecturers, what exactly makes them increase their effortshuh

For example, there was a drastic increase in the Acceptance fee of OAU some semesters ago, I think about N15,000 increase (more than 100%) if I can still remember, but I didn't see any increase in effort of any of the lecturers. They still had the same 'Idon'twanttotalkaboutit' attitude they always have!
To buttress this question, you have to understand that an increase in the tuition fees in our public schools does not equate to an improved welfare for the lecturers. So you can't conclude that an increase in fees brings the required development.

I also want the speaker to understand that there could be infrastructural development while the quality of knowledge impacted on students decline.

Good Afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

The debaters have both written well. More ink to your pen.

My question goes to King94,
In your write-up, you obviously admitted the possibility of your opponent to say the hike in school fees may not be affordable by the less privileged. You argued there are scholarship for the brilliant poor ones. I want to ask, what is the fate of an average poor citizen who is not able to meet up with the set standard for the scholarship? We all understand what it means to get a scholarship in our country here except we are not just been real with ourselves. This is not also in exception to the corruption in the processes most atimes.

Thanks!

RomanceRe: Cooking For Your Boyfriend In His House: Is It Right Or Wrong? by Davo93(m): 10:42pm On Nov 27, 2013
I have read from the first page to this point, I must confess that i read a lot of hilarious responses from users here.

Though i have a lot of objections to what i see a lot of people agreed to be 'normal' here but that won't still stop me from making my own point.

Going to cook for a guy in his house seems to me as not right. A lot can happen in that process which could lead to sin. So to avoid that, it is adviceable to have a rethink on it. (I do hope someone doesn't tag me as holier-than-thou, although i don't care)

The one that got me thinking of how lost the female virtues have been with some ladies is someone who said she cooks for a guy everyday at his home. She further went ahead to say she does that before he returns from office everyday. Is he married to you for crying out loud?? Later you say African men don't value female folks. With this kind of mentality and attitude?? I'm lost!

God will help us friends and i pray we understand the necessity of a home built on God's principle and good morals.

This is a nice partnership.

By the way, from what i read, it looks like the boarding system has been cancelled in the state's public schools. If that is the case, i so well support it. Any parent sending his/her daughter/son to a public boarding school is nothing different from sending a child to a prison. At least from what i saw in my secondary school days.

Only VERY few public schools have a fair boarding system.
