Some are easily impressed with Soyinka's verbose, gratuitous style and think simplicity in a narrative shows a lack of depth but Soyinka's prose works actually get criticism for this. Some have been going on about how difficult it is to translate Soyinka's works as if it is a virtue. The greatest authors and philosophers of all time including your Tolstoys and Dostoyevskys and Twains and Hemmingways and Nietzsches communicated simply and effectively.
