surgical:For me it is not even about the candidate either. Or else how come we've not got that 'right' person in our 58 years of existence as an independent nation? Are we just that unlucky? I don't see any individual who can successfully rule Nigeria under the current structure and come out with a pass mark. No multi-ethnic society has ever been successfully governed through a structure that concentrates all powers at the center, and Nigeria can't be an exception. Looking for the right person or party amounts to treating symptoms of an ailment rather than the cause. I stand to be corrected. |
datribune:If just 30℅ of Nigerians were free of short memory like you, Nigeria would have been a better country. With all I have seen on this thread I no longer doubt it that the day Abubakar Shekau releases a video accusing IPOB and Niger Delta Militants of terrorism a lot of Nigerians will take his message and leave the messenger. What an anomalous country! |
Xisnin:The mistake being made by many on this matter is the assumption that whosoever expresses disgust at Obasanjo's hypocrisy is automatically in support of Buhari's re-election bid. It was the same way those who pointed out OBJ's hypocrisy for his 18 page letter to GEJ were harangued with accusations of defending the clueless GEJ's government. If he were sincere about his new volte face on Buhari he would have first tendered unreserved apologies to Nigerians for supporting him in 2015. Same way he refused to tender apologies for bringing Jonathan after turning against him in the build up to 2015. The same Obasanjo now labels the National Assembly as the most corrupt institution in the country for the jumbo pay its members collect, and Nigerians are celebrating him for being "bold and blunt" enough to speak the truth whereas it was him (the same OBJ) who signed those bogus and offensive allowances into law in 1999 and went ahead to introduce corruption into the same National Assembly by bribing the likes of Koro to defect from AD to the same PDP which registration card he later tore. He would also later bribe the same National Assembly with cash filled Ghana-Must-Go bags for his evil third term bid. Obasanjo surely understands the very emotional mindset and short memory syndrome of the average Nigerian and he takes advantage of it maximally to remain relevant. Jesus' condemnation of the hypocrisy of the Jews who brought to him the adulterous woman did not translate to Jesus defending the adultery. APGA has always been very objective and sensible in its views on National issues, and if voting in Nigeria were to be revolving around party ideology and common sense base of parties rather than their sizes, ethno-religious and primordial sentiments; APGA would have been better positioned than PDP or APC. |
Xisnin:You missed it there. |
yom2:You would have been more rational to have mentioned the person who made the very first comment that introduced what seems a digression to you, or better still to have completely avoided anyone's mention in your comment. Sometimes dishonesty in addressing real or perceived digression accelerates the digression more. |
MrHistorian:Don't mind the deluded punk. |
The exit door is chocked. |
RabbiDoracle:The tallest of all dreams. |
RabbiDoracle:The tallest of all dreams. |
ezanafe:Perception of truth is not same as actual element of truth. |
samzepaparazi:Recall that TRANSCORP started dropping from 2.78? |
DeRuggedProf:I had a narrow escape. |
BiafraIShere:Unfortunately, Middle Belters have from the beginning always regarded themselves as Northerners and have repeatedly allowed themselves to be used against the South in most presidential elections. Na today? |
Okoyeebos:Succinctly captured! |
OlaoChi:You can as well quote the specific comments on which you claim I did. However you failed to acknowledge the comments in which your brothers went beyond the claim of mere Yoruba influence to here assert that certain Akoko-Edo towns were founded by Yorubas. |
OlaoChi:No one has tried to deny it. What they are trying to pass across is that it has almost been eradicated at least awareness wise. |
booblacain:My reading experience NL shows me that only SE members have this paranoia against Edo State for no concrete reason other than the State being controlled by APC. Also, only SE guys have this trademark of overlooking the actual missteps of the other PDP controlled states of the SS but try to crucify Edo for imaginary missteps. If not, how come you could vision Edo giving in to the cattle colony yet could not see the Bayelsa which has actually done so in the SS with the governor sponsoring violent attacks on those who disagreed with him? How would Nigerians and indeed any individual not be touchy in the face of a very transparent lie being hanged on his neck? |
booblacain:Unfortunately you gave no reason why you so believe. In addition, first of all you are not from Edo State or else you could not have missed the State Governor's TV interview in which he declared that the if he should allocate any part of Edo State land to Fulani Herdsmen then he will have no moral justification not to do same for those doing poultry, piggery, snailery, and even planting of crops. You perhaps were not in the country when the Edo State House of Assembly conducted a public hearing on cattle colonies and grazing reserves with the State's Attorney General, speaking on behalf of the Governor, declaring that the executive arm of the state's government dissociates itself from any such idea. The biggest irony in this comment of yours is that you forgot to mention Bayelsa to which concrete evidence actually points as definitely going to be one of them going by the fact that the governor, Seriake Dickson, has since last year, officially approved and implemented the allocation of 1,200 hectares of Bayelsa lands as grazing reserve for Fulani Herdsmen, and in addition sponsored thugs to beat up and fatally injure Annkio Briggs and her supporters for daring to stage a demonstration against him over that decision. The truth remains that persons like you from the SE are always blinded by the pain that Edo State is an APC state in the SS yet you don't feel the same pain that Okorocha of your SE is in APC. This is shameless hypocrisy. The decision to keep PDP away from Edo State Government House predates the coming of APC and has nothing to do with current political sentiments of North vs South. It is a statement against the bitter experience of the people under PDP's 8 year crushing misrule of the State Lucky Igbinedion and others like Anenih, Ogiadome, etc. If your state has been so unlucky to have had Lucky Igbinedion as governor beginning from 1999 to 2007 you would have hated PDP more than the average Edo person. So go and criticize Bayelsa which has already made 1,200 hectares available for cattle colony and leave Edo State out of your envy. |
RabbiDoracle:Yeah, the time of conclusion of the probe is really the question hence I too am not keen about acquiring a single unit for now. However, if it survives SEC's probe and comes out really clean with its latest quarterly results found really genuine, I doubt it will need a general bull fire to break loose. Only its outstanding 12bn units may be the opposing force to occasionally dampen its full scale return to above N200. |
RabbiDoracle:As for OANDO, my mind is divided as to its possibility of repeating the FO story. One one hand, the percentage crash of its price from its all time high of nearly 300 during the crazy 2007/2008 bull to the current 5.99 after touching as low as 2.9 in Feb. 2016 leaves enough reasons to believe it could return to at least N200 after the TS is lifted and the company comes out clean or "clean" of SEC's investigation especially considering that its figures have somewhat returned to green like it was with FO after about 2 to 3 years on the crashed price range. But on the other hand I feel that FO was able to return to N300 status quo ante in a non-bullish atmosphere on the strength of its very low outstanding shares of just above 1b unlike OANDO which now has a total of about 12 bn outstanding as against the just 0.6bn they had before the reforms. Well, as Onegentleguy says, Mr. Time holds the final verdict. |
jrusky:Your anger is not genuinely against the cattle colony policy. The tone of your comment easily give you away as a pro-PDP Ipobian still languishing in partisan pain over the 2015 electoral defeat of the PDP. If not, how come in your list of suspected pliable Southern states only APC controlled ones feature? You are so openly dishonest that after mentioning those states you don't want to be responded to because you know you lied and that all evidences actually point to the contrary. If you were sincerely not only using the cattle colony policy as an opportunity to vent some bottled up partisan anger you would definitely not have missed including in your crooked list the PDP controlled Bayelsa State where the governor, Seriake Dickson, has not only officially set aside over 1,2000 acres of scarce state land as grazing reserve for Fulani Herdsmen, but also sponsored thugs to beat up and injure Annkio Briggs and her supporters for staging a demonstration against that action. Yet you are masturbating over Edo, Ogun, Imo and Osun where their governors have not indicated any tendency to allocate lands for herdsmen. Your attitude is akin to a physician who ignores a known patient and busies himself trying to treat suspected patients. Of course to the average Ipobian whatever a PDP governor does can always be overlooked or at worst rationalized. More evidence keeps mounting every day that IPOB is just an arm of PDP. If you were genuine about your concern you would not have forgotten that so far Edo remains the only state in which an LGA (Ovia NE) undertook a Fulani targeted ethnic cleansing unlike your Enugu and Ebonyi which declared fasting and prayers when attacked by herdsmen. You also never watched The Edo State Governor's TV interview in which he wondered how he will be justified to turn down poultry, chicken, snail, and even crop farmers demand for free of charge state lands after he gives such Fulani Herdsmen. You also forgot that this cattle colony idea was actually born as a recommendation by the committee which was set up by your beloved darling GEJ who immediately the committee submitted its report, directed the then CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to release N100bn to state governors to establish such ranches and colonies but with the governors most of whom were of the PDP endorsing it and accepting their allocations of it. Lest we forget, your hero and leader, Nnamdi Azikiwe, handed over political power to Hausa-Fulanis on a platter of gold at independence against every wise counsel hence the seemingly irreversible mess of Northern domination in which the South finds itself till today. Until you Ipobians learn to remove your pro-PDP lenses when looking at sensitive national issues, the South will continue to be at the mercy of the North. |
salanda:Including FCMB, FIDELITY and FBNH. They seem to be regaining balance. |
Agbalowomeri:That is our own all comments index. Unfortunately, NSEMPA does not have capitalization to gauge the economy of Nairaland. |
tritritri:Very funny! But it was current price who started it all. |
emmanuelewumi:This reminds me of a true life story told to me by a stockbroker with Midas Stockbrokers about the not- too-educated father of a secondary school classmate of his. According to him, this father of his friend worked for 35 years with Nigeria Railway Corporation, and while in service NRC had this policy of automatically deducting some percentage of her employees' salaries to buy them shares as a supportive retirement plan. At the point of retirement they were all handed their share certificates. His friend's father laminated his, relocated to his village, hanged them on the walls of the the sitting room of the half completed house he managed to build in his village from his savings, and told whoever visited him that those were the national awards of honour given him by NRC for diligent service and unblemished record throughout his 35 years in service. The total number of share certificates exceeded 20 and included some of the current bluest chips. The news of his "achievement" saturated the village so much that he ( the Midas Stockbroker) had to schedule a journey home to see what these awards really were and then congratulate his friend's dad accordingly. But on arrival home he discovered that they were all share certificates whose total valuation at the prevailing market price ran into several millions yet the man was living in an uncompleted house. He had to explain to the man that what he laminated and hanged in his sitting room were not national awards but millions of Naira. Then he asked the old man to remove all of them and follow him to Lagos where he helped him dematerialize some, sold them and handed him the proceeds to go and complete his house and enjoy the fruits of the sacrifice he made unawares. The man was dumbfounded. |
onegentleguy:I will double as such. |
tritritri:Certain risks are not worth taking for how obviously they represent traps. Of what joy is a life which involves taking a risk that could elicit terminal ailment? Meanwhile I have submitted to Yayira an application as assistant gate man to your palace. |
Yayira:Let me too quickly apply for assistant gate man. |
Chibuking81:Very well said. All through that bullish 2007/2008 session of the mammoth bull I initially fancied the idea of taking one of the subprime loans being offered by quoted banks. However I got permanently dissuaded about those loans when a close friend of mine who was a Resident Internal Control Officer in First Bank took me to the manager of one of the branches he covered. Of all the very unfriendly conditions of the loan as reeled out by that manager, the one which saw me using the exit door of his office was that I must use the loan to buy only his bank's shares and that my CSCS account will remain frozen until I finished paying up. I did not need being told that only pure greed could make anyone accept such terms. And lo and behold, less than 12 months later the meltdown arrived and the his bank's share price fell to one eight of the price I would have bought with that loan with my account frozen until I paid up. |
rationalmind:But I got yesterday na. |
