With this news, Edo has suddenly become part of SS again in the eyes of certain folks who have hitherto been blackmailing Edos by calling them Yorubas and claiming that Edo is more of a SW or NC central state for being governed by APC. Some Nigerians and inconsistency of opinion are 5 and 6. |
PrecisionFx:The same Awolowo who was jailed by a coalition of North and East for refusing to align with Hausafulanis? Go back to your history books. |
PrecisionFx:He is actually talking about his own father Faani Power and the likes of Azikiwe and Okpara who pioneered the selling out of the South to the North. |
Bede2u:Aburi Accord became an option to consider because the independence constiution which we all mutually consented to was destroyed unilaterally by Ironsi. Now may I ask you where Ojukwu was when Aguiyi Ironsi was violating, subverting and vandalizing the independence constiution according to his whims and caprices? Of what benefit was GEJ's first term to his own SS people to warrant the belief that a better deal could have been secured from him? Was GEJ really concerned about the interest of the South going by how he gave national awards to Hausafulani rogues and their Southern Collaborators while ignoring his own brother Ken Saro Wiwa who pioneered the new dimension of the struggle that made him president? Could a GEJ who sacked Festus Odumegwu for boldly speaking the truth about an issue through which Northern hegemony has been given constiutional backing for years be said to have been genuinely concerned about the South's interest? What with Jonathan's sacking of his own fellow Bayelsan as National Security Adviser and replacing him with a Northern elite at a time it was being suspected that the Northern elite were behind the Boko Haram security challenge threatening the nation? What of his allocation of a whooping N500bn for the building of Almajiri schools in the Core North in total unconcern about his own Niger Delta people living in coastal shanties drinking crude oil polluted water and their children schooling under trees? If you think Jonathan was genuinely interested in Southern interest and unity, then you need to critically examine his administration. |
DJInfluence:Obasanjo really had no excuse not to do it. It wasn't the perception of tribalism that restrained him from doing so but his ego and hatred for Abiola whom he said was not the Messiah at a time every reasonable Nigerian was agitating and sacrificing for the actualization of June 12. Didn't Jonathan also not stubbornly refuse to do it even though no one would have had any basis to accuse him of tribalism for that? Even Yaradua with all the accolades showered on his as a 'democrat' refused to have anything to do with June 12 in his 2.5 year reign. I think resentment against Abiola was generally a PDP philosophy as the IBB who annuled the said election ended up as the founder of PDP. |
Kennydoc:Aren't there indigenous Igalas in Anambra State? |
JudgeOGBUNABALI:Lamidi Cownu will soon remove Delta State from Biafra map. |
Doyin2:Care explaining how you came about that assertion? |
Blainz:Where did you get your statistics from? You mean Edo State with a handful of indigenous moslems in Etsako area alone has more moslems than states like Osun, Oyo, Ebonyi and others which have indigenous moslems in nearly across all their LGAs? You must be a commedian. |
Osagyefo98:I guess they are congratulating you for insulting Edo all this while? |
Osagyefo98:You can't solve a problem without finding out the root cause. This is not about Buhari and has nothing to do with him. Your attempt to smuggle him into the issue here marks the dishonesty and evasiveness of the typical Igbo man. The problem of Nigeria is basically structural and we must all first be enlightened enough on the origin of this faulty structure before any solution approach can work. Pity is your name! |
Osagyefo98:I guess my land is Enugu where herdsmen attacked and the governor's response was to declare prayer and fasting. My state long ago passed a law banning night grazing and disarming herdsmen. You see the arrogance, remorselessness and denial of responsibility which makes other Nigerians resent you Igbos? |
GMbuharii:According to you, Igbos alone are the ones bold enough to speak up against the fulani herdsmen menace. Aren't you by that assertion suggesting that all non-Igbos, yourself inclusive, are keeping mute and allowing evil overthrow you and your loved ones? Without the past there can't be the present. We all know that Fulani Herdsmen menace is not a problem in itself but rather a symptom of a more fundamental problem which has to do with the faulty structure we operate in the country courtesy of the past and even present irrational choices and shortsighted decisions of Igbo political elite. So of what use is it to just keep verbally speaking out against Fulani Herdsmen attacks without a corresponding agitation and action aimed at addressing the root cause of the problem? As far as I am concerned, those who were bold enough to, take action towards setting in motion the campaign for a structural change that will holistically address Nigeria's problems including Fulani Herdsmen menace are the Niger Deltans, hence I don't see how rational it is for you as a Niger Deltan to keep transferring a glory meant for you to Igbos. GMbuharii:If you are a good student of history you wouldn't have asked this question. But to oblige you, I would that you realize that it is a universal principle in political philosophy that the experimentation of unitary system in a multi-ethnic society (which Nigeria is a good example of) always leads to incessant clashes of culture and it's resultant effects of chaos, daily bloodshed, enduring political instability, intractible terrorism, corruption in government, tribalism and nepotism, loss of nationalistic fervour in the citizenry, etc which all culminate in failed state status as we have it today before us in Nigeria. Now tell me which tribe's political elite forced us to ever experiment with unitary system which has put us in this sorry state tiil today. You think it was the Hausafulanis? GMbuharii:Like I have already explained above, our problem has nothing to do with the timing of independence but the criminal and illegal imposition of unitary system on the country as against the federal system we were operating and making rapid progress prior to and immedietely after independence. GMbuharii:The bolded was exactly the reason why the departing colonial masters bequethed a strictly federal system on us on our demand. Recall as well that the North too was in morbid fear of Southern domination through superior academic endowments hence they accepted the proposal of federalism which naturally insulates each and every section of the society from the domination agenda and internal colonization tendencies of every other section. But only the Igbos weren't comfortable with the federal system because they felt it would put a check on their already high spate of migration to other regions to enjoy the same status as the natives. GMbuharii:I am a Niger Deltan too and equally hate seeing what you complain of above. In addition I hate having to make do with a paltry 13% derivation knowing fully well that the other regions enjoyed a whooping 75% derivation in the times of their groundnut pyramids, Cocoa and palm oil. GMbuharii:We don't abuse them when they are doing so. What we stand against is when they try to create the false impression that they are innocent victims of the system hence deserve the kind of applause your likes give them without knowing that they actually sowed the seeds of the choas on ground. |
CioAngels:While your allegation above might be true, you may however be shocked to hear that one of the reasons Obaseki is facing resistance to his second term bid from some camps in Edo State is that he imported persons from Delta State to take up appointments in his cabinet to the neglect of Edo sons who sacrificed materially and worked tirelessly for his victory in 2016. One of his aides from Delta State is reported to have so much benefited from Edo State funds to the extent that he has been able to afford a N200m worth property in Lekki, Lagos. |
GMbuharii:Judging from historical perspective, Igbos put us in this insecurity problem in the first instance, so the law of natural justice and nemesis places on their shoulders the responsibility of leading the campaign against the fulani herdsmen menace hence they deserve no commendation for campaigning against a national menace resulting from their past shortsighted actions and choices. |
Binikingdowm:Don't mind that intruder. Edo State currently occipies 4th position on GDP per Capita which is the single encompassing measure of overall prosperity of societies. No state from his Igbo land makes the top seven on that GDP/Capita ranking table. |
Osagyefo98:I don't know what you mean by misreable index, but in terms of socioeconomic indices, the available statistics never places Edo below 4th position in any table among the 36 states. |
AreaFada2:You just said it all. As an Edolite I personally don't like it when an Edo/Delta collaboration is championed by an Edo person as it would suggest Edo is eyeing Delta State oil which however is never the intention any day. While I would prefer that Edo State goes about her affairs alone, if this very collaboration is being championed by a Deltan, I may be neutral in disposition to it, but if it is by an Edo person, then it won't go down well with me as I would advise him to abandon the idea immedietely, because much as he might have a genuine intentions behind it, the perception of the public matters more in the affairs of men. As a state with the most diverse mineral deposits base, the most strategic location, the most diverse vegetation belts, and a lot other first position advantages over every other state of the federation, I believe strongly that with constantly visionary and pragmatic government in Osadebey House, Edo State doesn't really need collaboration with any other state to clinch and permanently retain first position in all socioeconomic indices in the committee of Nigerian states. Though no thanks to the Lucky Igbinedion administration which dragged Edo State back by at least 25 years. |
BluePrincee:So in your mind only Auchi makes up Edo-North? The over 95% Christian populations of Akoko-Edo and Owan areas of the same Edo North renders the Auchi moslem population insignificant in Edo North. Moreover the Moslem population of the Etsako area is not really more than the Christian figure there contrary to the frequent claim by online resident analysts who are neither natives nor residents of Edo State. Is Auchi not currently home to the national headquarter of one of the fastest growing pentecostal churches? |
theenchanter:Couldn't have been better said. I have never heard his likes explain exactly what that immaturity means in their minds. |
Guestlander:You dey mind that guy? Even with the gruesome genocides being carried out daily on innocent citizens in Zamfara and even Katsina, he feels the tendency by governors to abuse state police for election is the most important security challenge before the nation. |
Kabir2Mohammad:Thank you. Governors will now be forced to accountably use the huge security votes they receive. |
Bede2u:Honestly, I am shocked seeing such a comment from him as a Southerner first and then an Igbo man who actually should know much better. |
Blue3k:What I read in the link is that he described it as a great idea but highlighted and even gave kudos to a governor who had started putting up a state owned security architecture but highlighted the temporary constraints which may be faced by the governors of interested states. He specifically mentioned funding which we all sincerely know some states will face. His mention of governors there was not in the sense that they will abuse it for election heist as peddled by the PDP. I therefore don't see how such stance translates to a position against it unlike Jonathan who declared totally that he didn't want it because it would worsen the already bad security situation. Even those of us applauding the final approval now know deep down in us that only states like Lagos, Rivers, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Oyo, Anambra, Imo and Akwa Ibom may be able to bear the burden of funding. |
Goke7:Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you. |
Goke7:Thank God that for the first time since 1999 we have a VP full of and brimming over with ideas. But it takes the combination of such a VP and a president who acknowledges his VP's brilliance for progress to be made. We never had such a president before now. |
Blue3k:Can you please share the link to one of such articles here? I can bet that you won't find any. However I can show you a link to where Buhari threw his weight behind decentralization of the police far before now. The PDP created that default perception you hold about Buhari's take on this matter. |
Goke7:It however takes a listening president to bow to superior ideas from his VP. That is the difference between Buhari and all the other presidents we have had since 1999. |
