I have hyundai entourage 2010model but alway give scary sound when i
first start d engine after every 30min. i took it for diagnosis but was told
that the oil pump was located at the top of the engine different from regular
base location.
This cause the engine to bring about the noise for just 5sec before returning to
normal sound. please how true is this?

This happens in any car, no matter the location of the oil pump when wrong oil specification is used to service the engine.

You did not tell us what car you are talking about.

However, have a technician measure the pressure of your fuel pump with a FUEL PRESSURE TESTER. Your fuel pressure should not be less than 6bar. Either the pump itself or the fuel pressure regulator is failing. Please leave your battery alone.

3. Mazda MPV 2000 - This Mazda is good but is V6 so might be fuel thirsty. Very good it has sliding doors which is good for kids but the reliability of Mazda is below others which is an issue. If i buy it, I would not be looking to sell anytime soon hence my apprehension. However, it comes mostly with auto tranny which i like with center space for back passengers to enter without lifting any seat.

Please how help my choose one of these vehicles considering the factors i earlier listed and my budget. Somebody can also suggest another in this range.

Who told you 6 cylinder engines are fuel thirsty? pls get rid of the mentality. V6 engines would take more fuel than an I4 engine cos of the extra 2 cylinders but to describe them as "fuel thirsty" is an unfair exaggeration. Even a faulty I4 engine would consume more fuel than an old school American V8 engine.

Of the three vehicles you want to choose from, I favour the Mazda MPV. Reason is that a very close friend of mine has owned it since 2008 and still using it. Maintenance culture is the key to long life of any vehicle.

It's a Mazda tribute 2003 v6, I noticed oil leaks/stains around the belt area, when I test drove the car, there was smell of burning oil coming from that area with a lot of heat as well (I have been reading it's a common problem with the ford escape engine).
There is also a bit of noise from the right tyre area as I accelerate, it's a grinding noise, I suspect it's because the car has been sitting for long.

Is the engine overheating? check if the cooling system was properly bled and that there's no possibility of air pockets anywhere in the coolant passages.
As for the oil leaks, you have a worn engine oil seal and also check the gaskets on the cam covers and oil filler cap.
Ford and Mazda use the same engines except for some details.

YES, sitting for too long would allow rust to build up around the brake disks and calipers or even let the grease dry up from around the bearing and spindles in the hubs. Overhauling and replacement of brake pads will take care of that matter.

By the word "CUTS", do you mean "goes off"? ...if your answer is a NO, note that these days, manufacturers install REV LIMITERS in engines whose job is to prevent the engine from revving beyond a preset RPM while the vehicle is stationary. Its their own little way of stopping you from ruining your engine.

There is a slight vibration when I shift the gear to drive while holding down the break ( this scared me the most) I hope the transmission isn't faulty, could also just be faulty breaks.

I want to believe you have test driven the vehicle. If the gears selected fine and the car drove well then, there's nothing wrong with the transmission unless one probes further with a scan tool. take note of the time interval between your selection of a gear (D or R) and the time the tranny takes to respond. it should not be longer than 2seconds. if it is longer than 2secs, then all is not well with that tranny.
The vibration you experienced could be from a broken engine or tranny seat.

For this, you would have to find someone with a scan tool. unfortunately, I am not in Lagos at the moment and won't be coming in anytime soon.

I can't really say if its worth a try or not unless I see the car for myself especially to observe the pattern of the oil spillage. seeing pictures would have gone a long way. Why not find someone who has some knowledge about cars as I am not in town presently?

When idling especially in traffic temperature rises high, but when the throttle is applied and engines runs from 2000 rpm upward temperature goes down to normal. Fans works with thermostat. and runs well. Any clue with whats next to do?

Take a look at your radiator veins. I believe it must have been covered with dust and debris thereby allowing minimal air to flow through and effect its cooling. So, the radiator now only cools when opposing air is forced into it through the dirt on it while the car is on forward motion,

Go to a car wash and let them use their pressure washer on your radiator. or have a mech take out the radiator and have it pressure washed.

After my graduation from one of the nigerian universities, I have been staying with my elder brother.. He's the second born as a lady is my parents first born.. But he's the first son.. They're Not OBD ii compliant. That said, they have a socket labelled 'DIAGNOSIS' near the firewall in the engine bay, that's an OBD 1 port.

OBD started I think 94 or 96...(Can't recall now)

I changed my gear box on Saturday, a 2006 camry V4. though initially budgeted for 10 pin, was informed that my car had a 13 pin tranny and I paid for and got a 'belgium' one. with the change, I noted that the car jerks between 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 ie 2 jerks as one accelerates to 80km/hr.
following the installation, Yukon brand of ATF was used to fill d gear. took it back to the mechanics and was informed that the jerking will clear with time but I have my reservations. Just spent about 280k with 250k just on the gear box.

appreciate the fact that you guys have answered a lot of guys like me but really need answers so as to sort it out before the ;warranty' expires.

P.S: a colleague of mine said I should take it to a computer guy to reset factory default/ synchronise engine and gear box or smth like that.

Please change that ATF ASAP. That's a possible reason for the harsh shifting you are experiencing.

If you can't get ur hands on TOYOTA WS look for DEXTRON 6.

Hello Guys, what can cause whistling (observed from the front wheels) whenever one is in traffic and I just changed the brake pad. The whistling stops when the brake is applied. This is an Honda Pilot.

Whistling in your front wheels can be caused by worn out brake pads or brake disks. In this case, whistling is observed each time the brakes are applied.

Whistling can also be caused by worn wheel bearings. The whistling in this case is continuous as long as the vehicle wheels are turning.

Lose brake calliper members cld protrude and rub on the brake disk as the wheels turn. In this case, the noise is heard mostly at very low speeds and sometimes fade away as vehicle speed increases.

Those are the three reasons for whistling in the front wheels of a vehicle. It now up to you and your mecho to determine which one of the isues you have on your hands.
