Britain will build a new 112-bed wing at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos so that it can transfer Nigerian prisoners there, foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, announced in London today. In a written statement to parliament, Johnson said tenders had been placed and a supplier identified to conduct the building work at Kirikiri. He did not name the supplier. The project will be funded from Britain’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund, which has an annual budget of more than 1 billion pounds and aims to commission projects that can help prevent conflicts and stabilise countries or regions. The new 112-bed wing, which will cost 700,000 pounds ($973,000) and be compliant with United Nations standards, will make it easier for Britain to comply with a prisoner transfer agreement it signed with Nigeria in 2014. Under that deal, eligible prisoners serving criminal sentences in Nigeria and Britain can be returned to complete their sentences in their respective countries. see rest of story here- https://newsnaija07..com.ng/2018/03/britain-to-build-new-wing-of-prison.html |
Edwin Hawkins, the gospel star best known for the crossover hit “Oh Happy Day” and as a major force for contemporary inspirational music, died Monday at age 74. Hawkins died at his home in Pleasanton, California. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer, publicist Bill Carpenter told the Associated Press. Along with Andrae Crouch, James Cleveland and a handful of others, Hawkins was credited as a founder of modern gospel music. Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke and numerous other singers had become mainstream stars by adapting gospel sounds to pop lyrics. Hawkins stood out for enjoying commercial success while still performing music that openly celebrated religious faith. An Oakland native and one of eight siblings, Hawkins was a composer, keyboardist, arranger and choir master. He had been performing with his family and in church groups since childhood and in his 20s helped form the Northern California State Youth Choir. Their first album, Let Us Go into the House of the Lord, came out in 1968 and was intended for local audiences. But radio stations in the San Francisco Bay Area began playing one of the album's eight tracks, “Oh Happy Day,” an 18th century hymn arranged by Hawkins in call-and-response style. “Oh Happy Day,” featuring the vocals... view more- https://newsnaija07..com.ng/2018/03/oh-happy-day-singer-edwin-hawkins.html

Interest in Stephanie Clifford, the porn star known as Stormy Daniels, is at an all-time high, and she's using it to her advantage, she said, after a performance Friday at the Solid Gold gentleman's club in Pompano Beach, Florida. Clifford has been in the news since The Wall Street Journal reported in January that President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid her $130,000 weeks before the 2016 presidential election to keep quiet about an alleged affair with Trump. In an interview, Clifford wouldn't answer any questions about the lawsuit or comment on Trump or their alleged relationship. She did, however, talk about how all the attention has affected her life. "Now, yes, I'm more in demand, Like I said in the Rolling Stone interview, if somebody came up to you and said, 'Hey, you know that job that you've been doing forever? How about next week I pay you quadruple,' show me one person who's going to say no." Clifford has been in the adult entertainment business for 17 years, she said. According to her website, she started out as a dancer in Louisiana before moving to... see full story here- https://newsnaija07..ca/2018/03/porn-star-who-claimed-trump-slept-with.html |

The Nigerian government has written to the authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Kingdom and the United States of America after discovering hidden assets owned in the three countries by Nigerian Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. In the letters written to the UAE and USA, Mr. Fowler is relying on the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEoI), a multi-jurisdictional instrument for exposing hidden assets and incomes, to which Nigeria is a signatory. In January, the state buried 73 persons who were allegedly killed by herdsmen in two local government areas. A fresh round of crisis between suspected herdsmen and residents of Omusu Edimoga in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State has reportedly led to 24 persons being killed. In reaction, Samuel Ortom, governor of the state, ordered that the victims of the latest attacks be buried on Friday. The attackers were said to have invaded the community after they reportedly lost their cattle and two herdsmen. The Benue police command said trouble started after two herdsmen were declared missing on Monday morning at about 7:30am. Some irate youth from Omutu were said to have engaged the herdsmen in a fight, during which some of their cows were rustled. A peace meeting was subsequently convened by Olofu Ogwuche, chairman of the local government, and the head of the Fulani community in the area. The police were mandated to look for the missing herdsmen. However, the progress made was derailed after one of the herdsmen was Reportedly found dead. Ogwuche said 24 persons were killed in the incident. See full story here- https://newsnaija07..co.ke/2018/03/benue-state-mourns-again.html?m=1 |
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday described Ohanaeze Ndigbo as Aso Rock informants and warned its leadership not to dare organise any public event to discuss issues bordering on one Nigeria and its restructuring in the South East. According to IPOB, what happened recently in Enugu State where its members aggressively disrupted an event organised by Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA), will be nothing compared to what awaits Ohanaeze Ndigbo should it go ahead to hold events on the vexed issues of one Nigeria and restructuring in the region. This was contained in a statement IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful made available to newsmen on Wednesday. “We read with disdain the statement credited to an Ohaneze Ndigbo spokesperson regarding the events that took place at the Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA) event in Enugu recently. What happened at the said event will be nothing compared to what shall become of Ohaneze Ndigbo should they attempt to convene any public meeting anywhere in Biafraland to discuss restructuring or how to keep Nigeria one. “The spontaneous disruption of the ECA event at Enugu, though regrettable, is what shall become of any gathering where compromised, washed-out politicians gather to sell out our people to their Hausa-Fulani masters from the north. What we want and are being killed for is referendum not restructuring; freedom not continued bondage in Nigeria. “It is unfortunate that very few individuals who arrogate the title of elders and leaders to themselves cannot point to any legacy they built or are presently building for the coming generation except betrayal, treachery, back-stabbing, avarice and lust for power. All the excellent work done by Dr. Michael Okpara and Chief Sam Mbakwe has been laid to waste by a ravenous breed of...
