This is what I’m correcting. The Fulani did not conquer Ilorin, they only installed an Emir after the death of Afonja. The Fulani did not even raid old Oyo. Those who raided old Oyo we're the Nupe and Bariba. Jihadist can be any tribe who fight for an Islamic cause.
Bariba never raid Old Ọ̀yọ́ though they tried but wasn't successful due to the help of Orangun Ajagunla of Ila Oranmiyan's elder brother, it's Nupe who raided the old Oyo (Ọ̀yọ́-Ilé or Ọ̀yọ́ Katunga) in 16th century and destroyed it forcing Aláàfin to fled to Borgu kingdom. Another capital (Ọ̀yọ́ Igboho) was rebuilt by Aláàfin Ofinran after He successfully regain conquered Ọ̀yọ́ territories from Nupe. Aláàfin Orompoto-Niyun (The second Ọ̀yọ́ female king) attacked Nupe territories forcing them to migrated northward and pay tributes to Aláàfin till the declining of Ọ̀yọ́ empire

ClintonNzedimma:
I get your point but quality tertiary education in Nigeria starts at 400k per year, not 5m. That’s the recommended price given by ASUU and most private schools here start at that amount. What should be cheap in Nigeria are vocational training institutions and polytechnics which can be our own version of the cheaper to afford American community colleges.
Then poorer people can go to school via STUDENT LOANS or scholarships for really bright minds.

This way, we have more value for education and no more ‘school na scam’ because it’s not for every Tom Dick and Harry. So when you see a graduate, you know the person is well cooked or else you will keep seeing graduates that can’t construct good sentences
There are some people who are at disadvantage due to some factors that are beyond them. Everything in our society still resonate back to our weak institutions (education, security, economy, infrastructure etc) which we'll have to put the blame on our bad leaders. Imagine the best secondary schools in Nigeria are private schools but private schools are finding it difficult to compete with public schools in Singapore, China, Australia, etc. Without quality primary and secondary education in Nigeria we'll still be here complaining and argue endlessly till eternity because most of our people still rely heavily on public finance primary and secondary schools

And I won't advise poor people to finance their education through loans, I have my reasons.

Obviously you now see the folly in demanding for "free" education that ends up costing the student his future.

Government cannot wait to "develop her citizens" first before charging fairly for education. At least I wouldn't do it, because - going by the posts on this thread alone - the citizens are not ready to be developed. If they were, they'd be willing to swallow some bitter truths. However, our citizens prefer to be hoodwinked. People like that don't have the spine to put in the hard work required to "develop her citizens" (sic).

In any case, the clamor for free education is preventing the commencement of the much more important conversation: how do we put scholarships in place to ensure that deserving poor students have access to tertiary education that is priced fairly enough to guarantee some minimum quality?

That is an important conversation, but people like you make it impossible to have it cos you muddy the waters with your misguided shouts for free education.
Every citizens that pay taxes or that his/her parent pay taxes deserve quality education at all level that must be provided by government finance public institutions.

You are one of those destroying the country with sentiments.
The government must make policies that is good for the long-term survival
of its citizens and not some stomach infrastructure that add more future burden.

Why do you think there is high level of unemployment in the country?
Because anyone can be admitted and funded by the government leading
to poor education.

Every single country with free(high tax funded) and useful(not just certificate) tertiary education makes it very difficult to gain admission so that only the smartest are funded.
A poor person that wants tertiary education must be very smart.
Tertiary Education is not very hard to get in in abroad if you are ready. I wrote SAT in 2012 and I scored 1350 their math is very simple not what I was expecting but English is hell for me due to American English grammar structure and system of wording.

Quality of teaching is different in develop countries compared to Nigeria. If we have good teachers there will be good learner, private schools teachers (higher quality) earn lower compare to public schools (lower quality) which earn a lot more and private schools are well structured compared to public schools.

Well, continue in your own obvious ignorance. Tertiary education is not free anywhere. It’s a premium even since the time of Babylon.

If you want the education quality to be increased and want it to be free. Then you are a big fool.

I will be back in 2030 when Private schools who offer such at a premium overtake the public schools in Nigeria. The laws of Capitalism always win.

I hope I have made enough effort to solve the problem of your stupidity. I really don’t want you to keep being stupid
Capitalism only wins in countries with stronger social policies not places like Sub-Saharan Africa. There is something will don't know we need to eradicate illiteracy first before we can start to charge exorbitant fee for education, we all can witness what's happening in the northern part of our country and most of Sub-Saharan countries who doesn't have access to education.

Great disparity in education is a threat to any society that's why education is free highly subside in most develop world.

Obviously you're the one that's dumb and ignorant.
The point is that countries with stronger social policies fund education by spreading the cost through higher taxes. The Nigerian economy is not structured that way, and so we use a model where the cost is borne directly by the student.
If you prefer pictures, there's a chart to educate you on Page 3 of this thread.
You'll need to develop your citizens first before you start increasing tuition costs, that's what Awolowo did. There's something we call disparity in income earning and inequality in education, how do you want someone who earn 50,000 per month to pay for the quality education worth 5 - 15 million naira offer by private primary and secondary tertiary schools and won't have choice but to enroll his children in low quality public education. There are stages in education development, no country can develop with uneducated citizens.

You guys will pay 30k per year as school fees and complain that the quality is low.
But when levels change, you won’t hesitate to pay #5m -10m per year to study in the University of Leeds in the UK.
Tertiary Education is not free anywhere in the world. If you like call countries that offer free education, they are paying taxes. If you want free quality education, be ready to be taxed
I don't blame Nigerians who don't pay income taxes because government officials will use it to send their families to schools in abroad and use the rest for personal purposes

In the case of Germany, it is funded through a heavy tax regime.

Akeredolu is a beneficiary of Awolowo's free education but he is not ready to give same to Ondolites. For a state that receives monthly allocation from the federal government in the excess of 10 Billion naira each month, where the governor's security vote is over #700 million while his office is run with 150 million naira per month, reducing school fees shouldnt be an issue. Give Ondo State university a monthly subvention of #500 Million naira for payment of staff salaries and running cost. Nigerians are jokers.
God bless you abundantly sir, I just find it very funny the way some people defend all these wicked leaders. They should simply create an endowment fund and invest in US or UK if they can't afford the instabilities of Nigeria economy and use the profit to run the university

Mind you, the central Yoruba spoken by many is the Oyo dialect.
Akoko dialect in Ondo North is very different from the Oyo dialect. Then you talk of the Owo dialect, Okitipupa dialect, Ore dialect and so on.
This means that you expect every man from Ondo state to learn the Oyo dialect so that they can communicate with each other without problems.
That is equivalent to what the English language or pidgin will do.
i.e. a person from Ondo state including the indigenous Ijaws learning the Oyo dialect may be equivalent to learning the English language or pidgin.
You're very right and wrong: the first standard Yoruba was based on Oyo and Ibadan dialect due to the fact that the author "Samuel Ajayi Crowther" hailed from Oyo region (Osoogun). But the present Standard writing includes all the Yoruba dialects and its very easy to understand by any speaker of Yoruba wherever you are located. Since Yoruba is pluricentric language there is no general rule for how you should write it. All Yorubas, Igalas, Olukumi, Itsekiri and some part of Nupe and Baribas understand and can speak the general Yoruba but your local accents will still be noticed no matter where you come from. Only few people speaks the general Yoruba language without accent and they are mostly Yoruba professors eg. Peter Fatomilola, Adebayo Faleti, Wande Abimbola etc. And don't forget that Yoruba is an Isolating language aswell with no inflectional morphology.

OgboAto:
Do not deceive yourself sir, every LG in S/W has a log of family compounds [Agbo Ile] of early settlers of every hamlet under it [LG] as well as a list of the lineages under each family compound [Agbo Ile].

This is among every other layers of insulation to LG declaration acquisition - the last of which is to collect a letter from your Baale.

Even Yoruba people can not claim citizenship of towns that are not theirs maternally or paternally. And in fact, the ancestry of one's father or mother are often considered by family compouds along the lines of the history of the father or mother's town; the inter-group relations between the parents' towns [for instance towns that have been at each others' necks fighting wars]; and if any of the parents are non-Yoruba see Akeredolu for instance & people that married outside Yorubaland]

This is not to say LG officials won't grant you indigeneship if you can part with good money but then, all of these factors & more play solid roles in indigeneship acquisition from LG & legitimacy from the family compound.

Cheers.
Actually you can claim anywhere in Yorubaland if you don't want to be truthful. But note that you won't have access to some benefits like Bursary, scholarships, etc meant for the indigenes. I obtained attestation for most of my friend in my local government in Ekiti. But they can easily deduce where you're from from your surname.
