Things are really bad at the moment in the country. He is not the only one in this predicament. My advice is for him to start his own firm. Bad as it is business intelligence analysis is a lucrative trade now. The twist is that most organizations would rather outsource this part of their business to firms like PwC, KPMG and Delloite however I still believe that he can package himself, register a small coy and make presentations for business leads to mid tier coys in Lagos. I mean just from the top of my head I can say that there is a dearth of information around SMES in Nigeria and helping finance institutions gather reliable data in this space for strategy and business planning is hot cake in Nigeria. Telcos, cards and mobile payment coys routinenly need info on consumer patterns to drive thier sales, marketing and product penetration and B.I is the right tool for this so without fear or doubt there are opportunities in this field of expertise. He can also be doing business plans for small businesses that want to access funds. There are a lot of opportunities out there despite the economic downturn. The poster can inbox me the contact details of the person for discussions on way forward. On a lighter note, why rush into marriage with two kids when source of livelyhood is not constant. Thirty years in my own opinion is still an OK age for a single guy in this country P.S. I am not asking the poster for details to give the guy a job, I just want to be able to push some fresh ideas towrds his way on the vast opportunities in the B.I space. |
On a more serious note. Dude already has two kids which I think are already a mouthful as I assume that he might even at the moment be struggling to provide for them. Instead of saying people should donate I will suggest that they put the kids up for adoption once they get to a certain age so they can have access to a more quality life. I trust that Nigerians will ask for my head for this absurd statement. But the bitter and hard truth is people will donate now but for how long. Even if the govt of the day decides to step in and assist I doubt if such assistance will continue forever. My final take is that there is really no point bringing innocent babies into the world if there is no capacity to cater for them even if it just the basis things (shelter, food health and good education) However let know where and how to contribute our own widow's mite. God bless the lovely kids and thier wonderful parents |

Too many Un informed people here. I shake my head in pity at the level of ignorance displayed by nairalanders. The light problem in Nigeria now is a spill over from GEJ's tenor. To start with let ask ourselves this vital question. How many of the so called privates investors that bought power stations and other PHCN assets have relevant experience in the sector? The answer is NONE. It is on public record that Egbin Pwer Station which was completed by OBJ was sold to Atlantic Energy for 470m dollars when Schneider Electric was offering 900m dollars for it all in the name of local content promotion. The irony is Atlantic Energy does not have any experience what so ever in power generation or distribution. Infact the company only registered 3months prior to the bid for Egbin Power station. Since then Egbin has been a sleeping giant. GEJ simply sold all the power discos to his friend and croonies (the likes of Babatunde Ayeni and co) who all used bank funds to acquire the likes of Yola and Ibadan Disco. More so I still don't understand why the retards in the Niger Delta are blowing up gas pipelines. I mean I can understand for crude oil pipelines because in the midst of all the chaos some people are still stealing crude to sell on the black market but I am still at loss for the gas pipeline when it is not like they can scoop the gas. We really have along way to go in this country. Good new is Aje oil fields around Badagry has started production and at the moment has the capacity to do 10k barrels per day and has confirmed 650mcf of gas reserves which can serve the whole of lagos and SW for 50 years if properly harnessed. Dangote has also said that he is also looking at the possibility of bringing crude from Ghana, Kenya and Angola once the refinery goes live around 2017-2018. Hopefully our lazy Niger Delta brother who are brain washed by thier "Na our Oyel" mentality will soon realise that they are many roads that lead to the market. This reminds me of a fellow Ijaw that got the highly coveted Commonwealth scholarship to study abroad and also supported by busrary from his state govt. Dude just spent all his time partying with the cocky assurance that he would have Shello or Chevron job waiting for him. At the end he was eventually deported for attempted rape and lost the rare opportunity that a lot of people would give their right arms for God bless Nigeria |
The two tier exchange system is the best alternative at this point. There is absolutely no point allocating dollars for the importation of frivolous things such as toothpick and other consumables at the expense of dollar allocation to critical sectors such as agric, manufacturing and energy. I mean it is OK for a business man to have dollars allocated for capital importation of plant and machinery for primary production which will in turn create jobs. But definitely not for the importation of edibles like tomato paste, cooking oil vegetable oil, rice and other items that can be produced in Nigeria. I quite agree that the business environment is tough but with government investment in agric energy and real sector through the various intervention funds, it is just a question of time before this begin to yield results. We also have to play our our part as citizens. Anybody that wants to import edibles that have an alternative in Nigeria should source for dollar at the secondary market and allow the CBN/Govt allocate for critical sectors. The irony is the market has already even corrected it's self as most importers were already souring from the parallel market and have passed the cost to the final consumer hence increase in prices of essential commodities. Nigerians are funny lot. It is only in Nigeria that people spend and spend without saving and yet still expect to remain in affluence. And at the ND of the day blame the government. God bless Nigeria |
Dude is owing AMCON billions of naira and is partly responsible for the sack of quite a handful of bankers during the 2008-2010 banking crisis. We are also quick to forget how he scammed the Cosmos Maduka and was responsible for the removal of Cosmos from the board of Access Bank and write off of about 40billion naira in bad loans in 2013- 2014 thereby eroding shareholders funds in the bank. He is also one of the oil importers responsible for the large scale subsidy fraud transactions ever recorded in the history of Nigeria and yet some Nairalanders are praising him. As rightly mentioned. It is one thing to donate, it is another for the cheque to clear. I now understand why we can never move forward as a nation if we continue to accommodate such persons of shady and crafty character. In developed nations, personalities that have committed just one tenth of what this man has done don't even get to see the light of the day. The other day he worked into a live match and slapped the referee. We still have a long way to go. Our emancipation is more of a mental one than physical. God bless Nigeria |
Welcome development but how many of the trucks will get to Nigerian filling stations and ultimately Nigerian consumers? I can bet that at least 1000 trucks will be diverted to neighboring countries. Let's not also forget that our fellow Nigerians will also do everything in thier power to sabotage this effort. I mean I am still trying to understand why someone would go and burst a gas pipeline that supplies gas for electricity generation. Well it is like they can scoop the gas and use or sell. God bless Nigeria! |
In theory this sounds like a fantastic idea. However in reality it might not really have much impact. Certain questions come to mind What is the volume of our total exports (oil and non oil) that goes to china? Why is the Yuan one of the cheapest currencies even when China has the largest intl trade balance sheet? Why has the Chinese government refused to allow market forces control the price of the Yuan? Instead, they have deliberately kept it low making it seemingly attractive? Unlike other currencies that are controlled by market dictates? I don't want to sound pessimistic but we have just been handed the short end of the stick. However I think is is ok considering that China has just granted Nigeria a USD 6b infrastructure loan. Hopefully the rail projects and other pressing social projects will see the light of the day now. God bless Nigeria! |
I can bet that despite all her tribal comments she won't mind being his Baby Mama No 10. |
Wizkid never said that he bought the mansion. People should get their facts right before taking sides |
Replies based on ethnic and tribal sentiments. I find it rather amusing that Aunty Linda was quick to defend her celibate status instead of talking about violence against women when Wizkid threatened to beat her up. I also see that people are calling Wizkid fake ass untalented etc and saying that he does not write his own songs. Even notable artistes like Jay Z, Adele, Beyonce, Drake and even Kanye don't write all their songs. What ever happens in WizKid's private life should have no bearing what so ever on his public life as a celebrity and entertainment is all about make believe so it won't be uncommon for musicians to post make believe pictures to "entertain" their fans and the gullible public. I normally don't visit LIB but I did so after having my fill of comments on this ridiculous issue. The truth is the way Linda reported the news on her blog is very sensational. I also find it curious that she said in her reply that she is friends with some of these celebrities and as such compelled not to dish out news about them. This is operating on double standards if you ask me. She should just leave the boy alone and blog about other pressing issues. I know that she made her blogging money by dishing dirt on people but I think her business has gotten to a point where she can still make some cool cash without washing people's dirty linen in public. I mean there are blogs in America that write about cooking alone and the owners are raking in from this. Same goes for other range of educational topics. My final take on this is that both parties are not mature. Linda should behave like the 35 year old accomplished female advocate that she claims to be and Wizkid should also face his music business. There are more pressing issues that we need to address as a nation if we want our own future and that of generations to come to be assured. God bless Nigeria P.S if Linda really has the guts let her go and write about Dangote, Otedola, Atiku, IBB or even Obasanjo's sexcapades and see if she will have mouth to reply by the time they finish with her. Na only Wizkid she fit bully. |
Confirmed gist is that the landlord increased his rent from N5m to N10m and they were at logger heads on this. I think Wizkid has every right to contest such mind boggling increase and the law also gives some allowance of up to six months for rent issues to be sorted out between landlord and tenant. Also he was only served quit notice and not evicted. He was the one that asked his people to start moving his stuff out. Probably to get another lease as most of us would have typically done if we were in his shoes We all need to give Wizkid a chill pill including Linda Ikeji. There are more celebrities that leave more fake lives than him. At least he does not wear fake jewelry and his rolex collection is authentic |
First and foremost I think its very material for people to look at the whole fuel scarcity issue holistically. The decline in oil prices has minimal effect on the local price of PMS in Nigeria because the medium of exchange for sale of crude is USD and not Naira. Also, Nigeria has been fighting it really difficult to sell her crude lately. There is a glut in the market with hence the decline and with Iran entering the market crude oil prices are likely to stay depressed. I personally want to disagree with the daily consumption number quoted by NNPC. The truth is nobody really knows the real amount of fuel consumed in Nigeria and here are my reasons for saying this The subsidy cabal in collaboration with some corrupt NNPC and DPR officials usually inflate the liters imported to get more subsidy payments so it is not uncommon for round tripping of vessels to happen. I can say this without fear of doubt because I have seen it happen first hand. (Importer will bring 5000MT and say its 15000MT and will be paid subsidy on 15000MT) Secondly there are a lot of illegal modular refineries in the Niger Delta where people steal crude and refine to get substandard PMS. This is not also captured. We can go on till eternity on this issue yet there won't be a solution is sight. Certain things though are constant in this whole issue There is a Subsidy Cabal in this country that holds the government and Nigerians to ransome anytime things don't go as they have planned. The cabal is made up of people in the govt, NNPC, DPR, National Assembly and private sector Our current refineries are old and outdated so relying on them to meet our fictious daily fuel need is not an option. The Nigerian government (be it APC or PDP led) whether past, present or future cannot embark on construction of new refineries simply because the political will and discipline to do so is lacking. I mean they can't even get their act together and do a second River Niger Bridge or even a 4th Mainland bridge in Lagos. My personal suggestion is for govt to remove subsidy and let the market control fuel prices. Truth is even with subsidy we are still buying at double the official price. Govt should also legalize and grant licenses for the operation of modular refineries. The truth is govt has no business interfering in the oil and gas and power. They should concentrate on provision of social amenities like roads, schools hospital etc. Also with modular refineries on board nobody will have a monopoly of production distribution and sales. People in Kano won't have to wait for fuel from Apapa before they drive their cars. An investor can simply build a modular refinery in Kano that will cater for their fuel needs there. We Nigerians must be ready to sacrifice if we genuinely want our country to change for better. The sad thing is that we are all so short sighted and believe in instant gratification at the expense of long term gain. Even if a new party and now government is elected in 2019 and nothing material is done now to address this subsidy scam. The same script which has been played since Obj, Yar Adua, GEJ and Buhari's tenor will still be played and Nigerians as usual will be the losers. God bless Nigeria P.S I pray that they don't also sabotage Dangote's refinery at Epe. I have been to the refinery location and what he is building there is massive and will maybe help stop importation of fuel completely but will also give Dangote complete monopoly of the product just as we have with cement. |
Nice. The irony is that the bags are not even made in Nigeria. They are imported from China. God bless Nigeria! |
I am tempted to coment but I will refrain because there are a lot of people that are still in the dark, have tunnel understanding of how and why such decisions are taken and still base their arguements along political, tribal and religous sentiments. I read some of the comments herein and still wonder where we have got it wrong. Is it with the educational system or the fact that we tend to value short term benefit over long term gratification. If this decision was taken in the US under similar circumstances we will all applaud it but because its Nigeria, there is outrage. May God open our eyes of understanding esp that of the youth our future leaders and God bless Nigeria. |
The truth is that if Google had not acted fast, there would be countless lawsuits against them. She was living off the sweat of others. Doing this is not the issue but refusing to give credit is where the problem lies. I am amazed that people are so daft to believe that it because she got her self a range that some random dude wants to take her down. This kind of reasoning is very myopic. Yes the range and other stuff she has been flaunting put her in the spot light but the bitter truth is that she plagiarizes other people's work, makes a ton of cash of it and does not give them credit for it which is wrong ethically but then, hey this is Nigeria where anything goes! I find it absurd that she didn't seem it fit to register a domain name as her business and list of clients was expanding. One of the first and cardinal rules of business is to always reinvest your profit back into the business especially when the business is at an expansion stage. Why not take a cue from Bella Naija and our very own Seun (apologies Seun for putting you in the ranks of LIB, you are definitely in a league of your own). More so, she has this knack for attacking people on social media and backed up by her sisters and other hangers on. Even when it became glaring that she was violating international copyright infringement laws, she was still attacking the random dude on social media instead of trying to put her house in order. So I am not amazed at all the hate and animosity towards her. I think this goes beyond the range, it is simply an accumulation of several other acts or doings on her part I hope she is able to learning enduring lessons from this whole episode and do what is right business wise. All the best and God bless Nigeria! |
Comparing nairaland and LIB is like trying to compare apples and oranges. They don't mix. Nairaland is going to be around for a while and will probably outlive LIB. Moreso, LIB is a one man show. I doubt if Linda will be able to run a website and constantly keep up with the trend in the IT world. It will simply be too mind buggling for her. I should not be saying this but gist from the grapevine is that the highly reclusive Seun was offered 3million dollars by two german brothers that have been investing heavliy in the IT space in Africa and this was some three odd years ago. This gist cannot be confirmed though. Also when you discount the potential future cash flows of Nairaland and LIB, the former sits atop. I admire LIB tenacity and drive to make it on her own but saying that she is richer than Seun Osewa is far from it. Besides judging their depth of wealth just because LIB got her self a range is shallow. I know people that drive much more expnsive cars and don't have 500k in the bank. It's simply called PRIORITY! Knowing Seun for who he is, he is probably browing through all the comments herein with a bemused grin on his face. All the best to both Seun and LIB! |
In all truth and fairness, I think that the EVD has been contained in Nigeria through the efforts of ordinary Nigerians and not the government alone. This said the government has also played its own part though a large protion of which has been politicized and backed up by media propaganda. You need to see how cautious ordinary folks on the streets of Lagos have become. Visit banks and other organizations and see how security personnell have become overnight doctors with their handdthermometers and sanitizers. Churches and mosques are not left out. A friend attended a wedding last week and the owner of the event center where the reception took place was in charge of providing security. All guests were forced to wash their hands and temperature taken before they could enter the venue. The bride amd groom were not left out. My heart goes out to the people in other West African countries but I think that they should be able to contain the EVD if they can take the initiative instead of just depending on help from from NGOs and volunteers May God bless and protect us all. |
For thoese who don't know, your bank is charged 65naira anytime a transaction is carried out on another bank's ATM. The CBN has simply transfered the burden to the end user. Put this way, if you don't want to be charged simply stick to using your own bank ATM. The only people who will bear the brunt of this policy somesault are those who bank with GTB |
The poster's claim is not true. Whilst it is correct that some of the graduate drivers have been laid off, the poster has only painted a picture and presented a story full of bias just to elicit sympathy from the gullible people on this domain. The problem with the graduate drivers scheme has been lingering since when they started training in Zaria. The fact that you are a Phd holder doesn't make you any special so long as you have voluntarily applied for the job. Information from the grapevine connotes that most of the graduate drivers went over board make ridiculous requests right from training school and this continued even when they were posted to Obajana. It is just funny how people are quick to label Dangote a bad man without getting all the facts right. The idea was to promote the scheme beyond the shores of Nigeria and into other West Africa countries where Dangote has business interests. However the attitude of the participants has been nothing to write home about. I don't know Dangote from adam and I don't work for him and quite frankly, I don't think its right for one person or a group of persons who have a deluded sense of entitlement to hold any company to ransom. Dangote has simply done what any rational business mogul would have done in similar circumstance. CUT HIS LOSSES and move on. If the poster wants sincere sympathy let him tell the story without bias and stopping attacking "ALHAJI LADAN". Afterall the supposedly "evil and tribalistic" ALH LADAN was not in training with the graduate driver where the problem originated. Dangote is the largest employer of labour in the private sector in Nigeria and will without doubt be the largest employer in Sub Sahara Africa once the refinery and other factories in west Africa kick off. He also made 9. 2 billion dollars last year from cement sales alone. I doubt if what will be top priority for him now would be the rantings of a few disgruntled employees who have a deluded sense of entitlement. God bless Nigeria! |
He dare not wear his "signature dark shades" especially in the presences of Mike"the bull" Adenuga. |
A laudable achievement from the young lady. At this rate the sky is just the beginning for her and I wish her the best of luck in all future endeavors. On a lighter note, the OP's topic is quite sensational. In what way did she particularly "STORM" the list? |
Herd mentality at work again. Meanwhile smart investors like Tony and Co probably snatched up Transcorp shares when it was trading at 50kobo. (I have about 10million units of transcorp all bought when it was trading at 50 kobo). Funny thing though is that a lot of people actually saw this coming but were not quick to act. I can recall that it has been in the news for at least a year that Transcorp and Forte Oil were amongst the preferred bidders for some of the PHCN assets. Transcorp is also a strategic partnership Hilton Worldwide to build about five hotels around the country. Total outstanding shares available for sale is about 40billion. This frenzy was actually started by foreign investors who sat on the fence all through the privatization process and are rushing to take early positions in some of this coys at all cost given the successful completion of phase one of the privatization process. Currently the share is trading within the over bought region and over priced but I guess we can never tell how far man's greed and avarice can take him so therefore people will continue to demand for transcorp shares no matter the cost. Well I have started off loading my own shares in tranches to take an early profit. My best advice is this: the best way to make quick money in the Nigeria stock market is to BET against it (buy when everyone is selling and sell when every one is buying) |
The list is flawed. No doubt we might be made to believe that this is what they earn on paper but in the real sense the entire take home package of some of these Bank CEOs is mind boggling. I can tell you that some CEOs as part of their contract are guaranteed between 0.5 to1.5 percent of their annual profit. Now imagine banks that make 100b at the end of their FY. That translates to about 1b in payouts alone. Some also settle for stock options. That are usually sold later. What we have here might be a list made available for public consumption only. One sector that is most likely to become another cash cow is the Power sector esp generation and transmission as there is a huge skills gap in that part. Also there will be a huge demand for more oil and gas engineers along the West Africa axis as countries like Kenya, Ghana and Angola begin commercial exploration. What I see now is a reverse migration typical of what happened in the 90s when most professionals moved to the West. |
Too bad, this is a sad development. for those saying that Wizkid should not be bothered let me explain how this will work. Bad new spreads like wild fire hence and in the time being no promoter within the Abuja axis will invite wizkid or any of his croonies for a show again to avoid making losses which translates into a potential loss of income for him. He then left with the minimal entertainment space in Lagos and has to contend with competition which will in this regard range from Tuface to Davido and even other upcoming artistes. One thing that he has failed to realize is that Nigerians are very sentimental and vindictive people. Unlike here in the US ,an artiste can still pick up the pieces of their career after a hiatus (e. g Chris Brown, Kanye West and others) but in Nigeria one minor slip can be the beginning of the end. I don’t follow the entertainment scene in Nigeria keenly but from the little I do observe, I think somebody needs to teach him a few lessons about life because he is heading for a downward spiral with the way he is going. He lost out on headlining the Star mega Jam this year and probably won’t have the chance to perform under their sponsorship again and also has not performed at any major show recently and even this Abuja event was a total flop. May God help Wizkid realize that “Pride goes before a fall” |
As Bigtt76 has commented just get a watch that can keep dual time. Even a casio wave ceptor that uses radio technology will do the trick. And wearing gold is no biggie. Even ordinary people wear gold wrist watches every day so I don't see any thing special in it. (Emphasizing the "Gold" part is childish IMO). By the way I remember him saying in one of his numerous interviews that Kanye West does not use a phone so why contradicting himself again. I really don't believe that Kanye calls him. Na just publicity stunt. Kanye seems to have his hands full at the moment. Raising Nori "North" West. Preparing for his tour which will kick of by the end of this month and personally supervising the renovation of their Bel Air mansion. Finally, has anyone noticed that the high controversial GOOD Music deal that caused the Mohits rift has suddenly gone cold? |
This is just one side of the story. If the bank says bikes are not allowed to park within the premises, then there should be no exception to the rule. No matter how urgent the poster's transaction is I think the poster got what was coming to him and beside if I was the manager, I won't give the poster the audience he got so long as the service anomaly is not a transaction related or fraud induced one. Quite frankly, the customer service officer or even head of security should be able to call the security man to order if truly the offered a disservice to the poster. Heading straight to the manager simply depicts a high level of pomposity on the part of the poster. In my own view we need to get both sides of the story before we pass any form of judgment. |
An inspiring and touching story. I like the part where the writer indicated that he had to change his job hunting skills and mindset before the offers started to trickle in. I hope that your story will serve as a point of contact for other people in need of a job. Stay blessed |
I am a product of one of the banks, presently in private equity and I am grateful that I passed through the rigorous training then. Tutu Sholeye, no doubt is one of the best in her field. Apparently, people don't read books anymore because if we do then we will know that the obituary exercise was adapted from Steve Covey's highly seminal book. Graduates want to earn a six figure sum. Yet, they are not ready to pay the price. If you can't stand the heat in the banking industry, go and set up your own business and be an entrepreneur. The original founders of these institutions paid with their sweat and blood to lay the foundation for what a lot of people benefit from today. Some even sacrificed their lives (RIP Uncle T). For those saying "this can only happen in Nigeria". Please I will suggest that you enroll for an internship program with any of the big investment banks abroad and see how their interns also pass through rigorous training. Recently, 21-year-old intern Moritz Erhardt died while nearing the end of a internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Rumor has it that the chap worked 18 hours per day, non stop week on week till he collapsed. I don't think that the 1million in one week drive is a totally bad idea. At least you are not compelled to complete the task and if you are not comfortable with it, one can always consider the option of walking away from the offer. Mediocrity has become the order of the day. Yet we want to have all the good things life has to offer. When the bitter truth is this. There is no free lunch anywhere. |
@ texazzpete. I give up. I guess there is no point trying to reason with you. I don't support the fact that govt is insensitive to the plight of workers but also I think that in all sincerity we need to have a sense of patriotism. No doubt, there are small pockets of resident doctors that give full commitment to their oath but I believe that a lot esp in Nigeria are contrary to the above claim I won't bother trying to make you see reason as it is obvious that you are one that is akin to throwing temper tantrums like a raging bull in a china shop. This attitude will only put both you and your audience in a defensive mood thereby overriding any attempt at a useful discourse. Finally, my prayer is that this issue along with others can be resolved amicably whilst we as a nation consider privatization as a way out. Because, only through this avenue will people be rewarded for the value added contribution to the society. God bless Nigeria. |
@ texazzpette, there is not need to be abusive. You don't see me throwing abusive tantrums in any of my posts, do you? More so, there is no where in the post where I have categorically used the word "ALL" hence you assertion of me stereotyping doctors is incorrect. Please read through my post again. There is a huge difference a private practice and setting up a private clinic. The term that I have used: "private practice" connotes the provision of health services outside the public sector apparatus and for a higher fee and not necessarily within the confines of a clinic in such a manner that it overrides public interest and also creating income leakage for the government. Examples include a RD that converts one or two rooms in his apartment to a makes shift clinic for patients. In all sincerity, doctors that have private clinics or engage in private practice can as well focus fully on their private endeavors. Abroad, hardly, would you see public sector doctors engaging in private practice. They are either with the govt or fully engrossed in private practice. Finally, I will suggest that you take time to read through comments before replying. Doing the opposite will only allow people to have a dim first impression of you as a person. God bless Nigeria |
