femi4: you still did not answer the question
Who are those calling it yultide cos the word christmas was merged from Christ n Mass + Extracted: ----------- .The word Yuletide is a compound of two ancient Old English terms: Yule (geōl) and tide (tīd). Together, they literally mean "the time of Yule." While we use it today as a festive synonym for Christmas, its origins are deeply rooted in pre-Christian Germanic and Norse traditions.
1. The "Yule" Component (Geōl / Jól) Pagan Roots: Long before Christianity reached Northern Europe, Germanic and Norse peoples celebrated a midwinter festival called Jól (Old Norse) or Geōl (Old English).
The Winter Solstice: This festival typically took place around the winter solstice (late December). It was a time of feasting, drinking, and sacrificing to honor the return of the sun and the "rebirth" of the year. The "Wheel" Theory: Some etymologists believe the word may be related to the Old Norse word for "wheel" (hvel), symbolizing the turning of the solar year, though this is debated among scholars.
2. The "Tide" Component (Tīd) Meaning "Time": In Old English, tīd did not refer to the ocean's waves. Instead, it meant "time," "season," or "portion of time." Lingering Usage: We still see this original meaning in words like noon-tide (noontime) or the phrase "time and tide wait for no man."
Ecclesiastical Use: As Christianity spread, "tide" began to be used for specific religious seasons, such as Eastertide or Christmastide.
3. How it became "Christmas" Around the 9th to 11th centuries, as Germanic tribes converted to Christianity, the traditions of the pagan Yule festival (like the Yule log, evergreen decorations, and feasting) were absorbed into the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
By the late 15th century, the specific compound "Yuletide" appeared in written English to describe the 12-day period of Christmas celebration.
Fun Fact: The Origin of "Jolly" The word jolly is actually a "cousin" of Yuletide! It is believed to have come from the Old French word jolif, which was itself borrowed from the Old Norse jól. Essentially, to be "jolly" originally meant to be "in the spirit of Yule." Would you like to know more about the history of other holiday traditions, like the Yule Log or the "Twelve Days of Christmas"? |

femi4: Christmas isnt a week celebration
Whatever you are reading on cyberspace is affecting your submission. Show me a church doing a week christmas celebration
Cyberspace is full of junks without verified source + I knew all this before the internet existed. Besides, its up to you to split the wheat from the chaff with regard to what you read online or indeed anywhere. As for your question in bold, I extract the following: ---------------------- Here is a breakdown of the different ways Christmas is measured.
1. The Twelve Days of Christmas (Christmastide) This is the most traditional religious definition. The "12 Days" start on December 25 and end on the evening of January 5 (known as Twelfth Night).
The Purpose: It marks the time between the birth of Jesus and the arrival of the Three Wise Men (Magi).
The Conclusion: The 12th day is followed by Epiphany on January 6, which celebrates the "revelation" of Christ to the world.
2. The Catholic Liturgical Season For the Roman Catholic Church, the Christmas season actually lasts slightly longer than 12 days.
Start: Christmas Eve (sunset on Dec 24).
End: The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which usually falls on the Sunday after January 6.
Depending on the calendar, this can make the "Christmas Season" last anywhere from 14 to 20 days.
3. Orthodox Christmas Many Eastern Orthodox churches (such as those in Russia, Egypt, and Ethiopia) follow the Julian Calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar.
The Date: They celebrate Christmas Day on January 7.
The Season: Like the Western tradition, they also observe a multi-day feast period, culminating in Theophany (their version of Epiphany) on January 19.
4. Cultural & Secular Celebrations In modern culture, the "Christmas season" is often much longer:
Advent: For many Christians, the preparation begins 4 Sundays before Christmas (the season of Advent).
The "Ber" Months: In the Philippines, Christmas celebrations famously begin in September (the first of the "ber" months), making it the longest Christmas season in the world.
Candlemas: In some older traditions (and still in some parts of Europe), the festive season doesn't truly end until February 2 (Candlemas), which is 40 days after Christmas. This was traditionally the day people took down their greenery.--------------------------- *Culled |

2. No religion has the monopoly of any day + It is not a conspiracy theory, it is a fact f history, do your research. And oh, Christmas is actually celebrated for over a week. You really dont know or understand ancient Roman History and early church history do you? This is not about any religion having a monopoly of any day. Have you even asked yourself the origin of certain peculiarities of the Christmas celebration, such as the Christmas Tree? What does that have to do with the birth of Christ? Jack. But it was part of the Feast of the Saturnalia. Someone like you will not know that the literal translation of the word "Easter" is "Eostre" the name of an ancient pagan goddess. Bros, you are an African. Relax and dont spend too much energy getting worked up about myths and legends of foreigners. |

femi4: show me a date that is free of celebrating other pegan festivals. There is no day without somebody celebrating some religious belief that's against your belief + The point is that Christmas was deliberately placed on that day in replacement of an existing festival of the greatest magnitude (the feast of the Saturnalia, which was celebrated for a week from around Dec 17 - 23). It was strategically done to ease the acceptance of Christmas being that Christianity had only become the official religion of the Roman Empire recently. There's no big deal with that as you say though, its just a fact of history. |

TOPIC: Never Forget The True Purpose Of Christmas
Scripture: "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke2:11 *Message*
Each year, the 25th day of December won't stop being a very significant day all around the world. It is the celebration of Christmas. It is the birth of Jesus Christ. In almost every single place in the world, there are people celebrating on this day.
However, we must admit that many don't even know the major reason for the season in the first place. A lot of people are ignorant of the reason Jesus Christ came to the earth in the first place. This is why you see some folks "celebrating" Christmas in sinful and harmful ways, indulging in wild parties, sexual immorality, alcohol and hard drugs, etc.
On the other hand, Christmas to several others simply revolves around Santa and gifts, taking the Object of Christmas (Jesus Christ) out of the scene entirely.
But as we reflect on the purpose of Christmas, this should be a season to gratefully reflect on the amazing things of God in Christ Jesus.
Remember, from the beginning, God originally created the earth to be an extension of Heaven, and He made humans to be perfect creatures to take care of everything He made. He desires (and enjoys) an intimate relationship with humans, entrusting the earth into the hands of mankind. Then came man's disobedience, and the beginning of receiving God's love on a very gracious level.
God's love attained a zenith in Christ Jesus, as He decided to come down to offer His Own Life to redeem mankind back to Himself. He suffered and died on the cross of Calvary to get us back into His perfect Will.
Christmas is a remembrance that in Christ Jesus, we have recovered all that was stolen by the devil, and we now have the authority to wield true dominion over creation - including dominion over sin, death, darkness, hell, poverty, sickness, and anything negative.
Merry Christmas!
*Prayers/Confessions*
Ask that the LORD utilize this Christmas celebration to introduce Himself to many sinners around the world on a personal level.

People need walking sticks. However there are some people of faith who cannot be respected at all because of their deep obtuseness and fanaticism. |

LordReed: There is no hidden secret + Much remains mysterious and I lean towards saying that much is in fact secret from us. Death is just an unknown and more primitive people had more to fear from the unknown than we do. We know that corpses don't wake up and walk about for instance. There is nothing to fear from the dead cos the dead are dead and do nothing. + The fellow should simply have said that humans fear death as all creatures do. Oddly, one wonders why someone assured of heaven or paradise after resurrection would fear death. Secondly his own book corroborates you: "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten." - Ecclesiastes 9 v 5. |
