I have told you several times to stop mentioning my name because you crave my attention.

The problem with your generation is that you have never experienced excellence, you grew up in an era of mediocrity so unsurprisingly the mediocre are your yardsticks. I grew up in an era where only the best were teachers civil servants or university lecturers and professors. You grew up in an era where only the dregs of society and rejects occupied public space. For that I don’t blame you, if you’ve never eaten butter before you will call margarine butter.

It is not about writing books, it is displaying standards of professionalism in your work. If according to him he says he didn’t know. How come a whole editor of a newspaper did not know for almost 2 months that a fellow media outlet (premium times) had already broken the story? When was the last time This day or any of its affiliates broke a story? Why is it always others like premium times that break stories? Why is it always others that do investigative journalism? Because they are quacks!

They are close to power because their oga is close to power, there is a difference between being able to write and being a journalist. Writing a book is not journalism. You are clearly too poorly educated to know the difference.

Again you are the editor of a newspaper and you say you don’t know about a story of this magnitude that was broken almost 2 months prior by a rival newspaper? You need to understand the difference between news outfits that exist for journalism and those that exist for brown envelopes and image laundering. Writing a book is not journalism.

You are only as good as the standards that have been set for you. I swear they have really messed up your generation. You lack basic critical thinking skills. Same way you have google you can’t use it, same way you think because someone holds a position he is worthy of that position. Many people hold positions in this country because the intelligent, competent and the professional won’t do it or work for certain people or conditions.

Furthermore none of these people you put on a pedestal are trained journalists. Segun Osoba is a trained journalist that’s why the difference between the 2 Segun’s can be seen by the discerning. Similarly that’s why the crew of Arise TV. None of them are trained journalists but these days anybody appears before the Tv and reads the news and suddenly they are a journalist. Again because the intelligent and professional have vacated journalism throwing up quacks!

Stop mentioning me. You are free to insult me and call me “that fool” or edit but stop seeking my attention by mentioning my name. If want to respond to you I respond to you directly I don’t try to be sneaky by mentioning your name in a post knowing full well it will appear on your mentions.

You have nothing intelligent to say because you are not intelligent. You are not intelligent because when you grew up, intelligence had fled your environment. I don’t blame you for that, that’s the curse of the post Babangida era children but seeking my attention is deliberate and like I told you from day one I don’t take kindly to being disturbed by eeediots.
Its that that serious, you have some fair points, I am neither silly or dishonest enough to say you dont. I just saw the story and thought, you know, not everyone lives online and people miss things. Its not sufficient reason to hurl insults about the way you did. It was just a thought.

At all events I am glad I disturbed you. It has shown me you are capable of writing more than two sentences without vulgarities. I would not have known that.

Ol boy have a great week. And I will mention you or whoever I wish to whenever I wish to.

Thank you bro.
I think Mr Adeniyi is an author of books and I can't remember now --where he was a Secretary to govt or the last appointment,in inner govt chamber of either GEJ or another govt.
So,he knows the way of Politicians and do warn those in authority, when he sees things going wrong way.He also applaud those good things,in govt too.
Several books -

- The Last 100 Days of Abacha
- Power, Politics & Death (about Yaradua)
- Against the Run of Play - How a Sitting President was brought down in Nigeria (about GEJ)

- He was Presidential Spokesman to Yaradua.
- Chairman Editorial Board, Thisday

All of this is aside from a legendary history as a jouranlist in general and a columinst in particular.

However, some teenagers on this forum such as Casualobserver say that he is a mediocre quack - simply because such a teenager saw a story on social media long before many others noticed it.

Hubris is one thing. Idiocy is another.

Oga, I told you many times before to let it go. Take the correction and improve yourself. I told you not to disturb me unless you have something intelligent to say.

1: mainstream Nigerian journalists today are not an example. Standards in the industry have dropped. Segun Osoba was a reporter for the daily times in the 1960s, it was he who broke the story of the body of Balewa lying by the side of the road. How did that happen? Because he got a tip and rode his Vespa all the way to the Lagos Abeokuta road. He went there to confirm himself before breaking the story.

When was the last time you heard any of these so called mainstream Nigerian journalists do any investigative journalism? They are reporters, they don’t do any investigation. They are just as useless as the public. Even arise Tv are so shameless they do a section called what’s trending I.e taking stories from Twitter… I repeat Twitter! Not unexpected when you take air head, bikini clad ex beauty queens and parade them as news casters/ journalists.

Set your standards high. It doesn’t cost you anything to google a subject you know nothing about before you comment. If I knew an I got my info from Nairaland and did 2 minutes of investigation on google, then and editor of thisday should be ashamed he didn’t know….then again it is the same media outfit so bo surprise. And stop using quackery as your yardstick.

Because someone behave ls foolishly does not make foolish behaviour acceptable, which is what you are trying to justify. I warned you not to disturb me with stupidity. You didn’t know, you didn’t know fine go away. Instead you start telling me 3rd rate journalists did not know so it is ok Your brain did not cause you to ask what kind of journalists did not know something that was already on Nairaland for over a month?

The problem with Nigeria is that our best brains are either out of the country or don’t get involved in public space so people like you use quacks as your yardstick for almost all aspects of life.

Stop quoting the mediocre to justify your mediocrity.

A rival media outfit published the story on June 30th so he has no excuse especially as an editor. It was republished on Nairaland which is where I first saw it and did my own checks.
This man. Can no one suffuse you with so much politeness that at least a little infects you?
Segun Adeniyi is no quack, neither is he mediocre.

And Jesus, see what you did to poor Ojy Okpe. grin

From the OP -

And we probably would not have been informed about it had the Chinese firm, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co Limited, not impounded three presidential aircraft in Paris, following the order of a French court on their dispute with Ogun State. It was the court that included one ACJ330-200, 5N-FGA (msn 1053), “recently bought from AMAC Corporate Jet (AMK, Zurich) and still stationed at Basel” while authorising the bailiffs “to go any place where the aircraft registered 5N-FGU, 5N-FGT and 5N-FGA are located and seize them.”

That was how Nigerians got to know that we have a new presidential jet.
@Casualobserver

I thought I should draw this to your attention.

If you are capable of it, it's Sunday morning, I dont need your ascerbic insults. I am not pointing this out to say I was right. No. I am pointing this out to show that just like me, many were not aware of the actual purchase. It missed many. And the writer of this article is the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Thisday - a former Presidential Spokesman himself.

If it could miss him, who am I, a mere mortal.

So slow down, before calling anyone who misses a piece of news names.
Have a blessed week.

wirinet:
I acknowledge and appreciate your friendship here on nairaland and your intellectual depths at analysing complex social issues.

I see my self as a humanist, my views are often non personal and look at how issues affect the wider society and humanity as a whole. As you are already aware, I am an evolutionist, a staunch believer in the doctrine of "survival of the fittest". Survival just doesn't mean individual survival but also includes family, clan, racial and species survival. Fittest also doesn't necessarily means strongest or fastest, that attributes (both physical and others elements) that best fits the environment.
I can now explain my "extremist" views on fidelity in marriage. Marriage is not necessarily a religious contraption, but a social construct (I would say evolutionary behaviour) to social order and progress. Ancient Rome that promoted monogamy did not do it for religious reasons but for social order (political and economic reasons). Even Judaism (or rather Abrahamism) which is the father of Christianism promoted polygamy. It was when Rome took over the Christian religion that monogamy was indoctrinated.

Let me Further explain why I feel polygamy is not desirable at this stage of our evolutionary development. In ancient times when the human population was small (100 million or less) and lived in isolated settlement. The economy was first Hunter gatherer and later agrarian. Polygamy was the most efficient method of family and thus societal survival. A man requires multiple wives and children (or large family members) for successful hunts or to work the land for successful agriculture. Then a man's wealth us measured by the number of wives and children, and then agricultural produce. Furthermore, life expectancy was very short, with men being even shorter due to war, disease, hunting and extraneous work. So turn out of children needed to be high to compensate for the high mortality rate.

Today, social dynamics have radically changed. The world population is 8 billion. The economy is now industrial and even digital. Families live in apartment building or at best single plot houses. Now, how will polygamy work in such a situation. Putting up 2 or more families under the same roof often end in disaster. Putting then under separate roofs also has its economic and psychological implications particularly on the children. In todays world polygamy is detrimental to building a strong, peaceful and prosperous society.

Now having said the above, I am not particularly anti-polygamy. What I am against is lying and cheating. If my wife or girlfriend is not meeting my needs, I will let her know. If she insists on being stubborn and still fail to meet my needs, I will make her known that I will find solace elsewhere. I will never hide or lie. The only reason I will still stay in the marriage and not divorce is because of the children. But once the children are of independent age, I am gone.
What a powerful, well articulated response. Solid. This is why I miss the era of people like you on Nairaland. This place is now full of screeching tribalist teenagers whose ignorance and stupidity is staggering.

I will respond later when i get a chance at work.

No I am not an eunuch and I was never a alter boy, in fact I am a known atheist. I have also kissed my fair share of frogs, but that was in my "charming prince" days.

I have never screwed outside my marriage, and I have been married for more than 15 years. Most of the people I associate with are married and do not screw outside their marriage. My very good friend who us a billionaire lost his wife 2 years ago, he is yet to get over it. His wife's picture is still in all his online profiles. So it's a matter of values or lack of.

If you can remain faithful to your spouse and family, how will you remain faithful to your community or country? I will not trust any man or woman who cheats on their spouse. If showbiz people are promiscuous, then they should not ge allowed anywhere near governance. Plain and simple. What example will he be setting for the upcoming generations that is expected to take over from him.
I left Christianity when I learn first hand that most pastors and their followers are hypocrites. They commit more sins and more wicked than even traditional worshippers. The pretend in the open but bring out their true self in secret.

Then you should stop promoting conjectures and personal opinions.
Old friend, I think it is extremist to say one should not trust anyone who sleeps outside marriage. You should reflect that mankind is not naturally monogamous and it is indeed an irony that as an atheist you dont see that monogamy is a contraption of control foisted by religion.

This is not to say one supports those sex addicts who are depraved rapists such as the racist, rapist, fraudster, convicted felon and pathological liar, Donald Trump.

As an aside what do you make of polygamy or polyandry?

As for the independent referees. I nominate budaatum and DeepSight.

Budaatum is unallied to both Christians and Atheists to the best of my knowledge. Plus he frequents these parts a lot and definitely won't have any stakes in the outcome of this debate.

As for DeepSight, I've never interacted with him personally, but I follow and observe his posts. I believe he's a deist (correct me if I'm wrong DeepSight 😁). Plus he's a fierce intellectual who's been active since around the early Nairaland days and has a track record of arguing with both Christians and Atheists alike.

You can also make two nominations if you want.
