Please take a calm deep breath and open your mind, please be objective. Inflation is not new in the world, thats for sure, but the radical inflation inflicted on this country by this present government is unique. You would be insensitive not to admit that. Or it would be either you are so wealthy that you dont feel it or you are taken care of by someone else so money and prices are meaningless to you. But even if either were the case, you would still recognize the devastating impact on the common man in the last three years if you have any humanity and sense of empathy.

Now let me give you some cold hard facts. Don't take my word for it, research them.

1. The total removal of fuel subsidy in one day was a first of its kind in the world. Everywhere else where this has been done, its been done gradually. Here, for the first time anywhere, the price of fuel jumped 200% in a single day from under 200 Naira to over 600 Naira. That was too much a shock for the economy and especially for the vulnerable. It had a ripple effect on prices of every commodity and thus the result was a jump in prices at a hectic pace never seen before.

2. Just three to four weeks after this, the naira was floated. The result was another jump from about N700 to the dollar to almost N2000 AT A POINT, even though it fell to generally around 1500-1600. In case you dont understand, in an import dependent economy, this simply meant further rises in the prices of almost everything by over hundred percent.

By the time you add the effects of the two above, the multiplier effect was dizzying. Even if you believe that these steps were necessary (which I dont) at least you will agree that the timing and implementation were terrible. At the barest minimum after the subsidy removal, the floatation of the naira should have been delayed.

Note that electricity subsidies were also partially removed.

And further down the line, the price of petrol was increased again from just over 600 to circa 1000. Cruelly, this was in the immediate aftermath of the EndBadGovernance protests. I dont think it has ever happened elsewhere that prices were jacked up after a nationwide protest protesting high prices.

All of these were shocks, and they have resulted in suffering of an unimaginable kind for the poor and vulnerable masses. So please do not simply say in an insensitive way "inflation didnt start with Tinubu."

If you want to make the argument, say that all these shocks were necessary as is said by people like GloriousGbola. Dont pretend that they didnt happen at all or that what happened was just what had always been happening.

Secondly they were one Germanic people with German as their language! In Nigeria you have over three hundred unique ethnicities and unique languages!

Again, with language, they were one Italian people with Italian as their language! In Nigeria you have over three hundred unique ethnicities and unique languages!

Please and please, how can you compare scenarios like this to a Nigeria with its disparate peoples? I have said before here that Nigeria has more languages than the whole of Europe put together and that in Europe there are essentially two main language sets and dialects of those two sets - the Latin set (Italian, Portuguese, Spanish) and the German set (German, and Northern European tones) and mixtures of these two.

So you are simply not comparing with any sense of nuance at all.

Again, remember that I keep saying there are many interlocking factors.

Finally avert your mind to the kinds of wars and conflicts Europe has been through and ask yourself whether its possible that a Nigeria forced together so crudely will not have conflict for ages which must be resolved before true development can permeate? ? ?
