KingEbukasBlog:I edited my post above to indicate that there were arguments for and against. I personally don't know for sure the truth of the matter. There could have been a historical person, or even several historical persons around whom the various stories formed - I do not know, nor is it of particular importance to me. |
plaetton:https://www.nairaland.com/368387/krayola-state-case-historical-jesus This is an interesting and thought provoking thread from the old days. It has strong arguments for and against a historical Jesus. The OP, one of the most intelligent atheists ever on this board, left the forum later saying he had realized he was influencing people more than he thought, or so. PS: Added the red text. |
plaetton:HungerBad, where is your response to this. Thank you in advance, ignoramus. |
Every single Nigerian ought to be thoroughly ashamed that we have Muhammadu Buhari as our President in a fast moving sophisticated and evolving world in 2016. Every single Nigerian. Any Nigerian who is not ashamed is a base and low minded human being who deserves the worst that Nigeria (and Buhari) can offer. |
basilo101:Bingo! |
plaetton:So on point. It sickens me to watch people who support Buhari. It entirely shows you why the country is the way it is. A people deserve the leadership they get. |
JackBizzle:Not my staple these days; but what I wrote was just a statement of fact. You exposed nothing but your lack of thought and reason. Some "foundation" indeed. Now scamper along, scallywag. |
JackBizzle:The joke is on your illiteracy bro. Try to refund whatever was spent as your school fees to whoever spent it. |
plaetton:Why the mendacity? In the first place, you have definitely had many Town Hall meetings with Apes, since you would consider human apes. In the second place, if humans are apes, then clearly, apes do have Religion and Science. In the third place, in the discussion referred, I made a clear distinction with regard to mere living in tandem with the purpose of creation as worship as against formalized religion. Unserious fellow that you are, of course you try to conflate to deceive. Enjoy. |
plaetton:And just how many years had gravity existed before Newton attempted to describe it? Please tell. |
^^^ Your very limited approach to the word "foundations" especially as used in a book like Job would have been shocking if i were not already used to your often shallow approach to the written word. That everything in creation is in constant motion is not, and has never been in doubt: and this does absolutely nothing to refute the propriety of the context in which the word "foundations" was used in the referred scripture. If this is the sort of kindergarten "mockery" you like to make of religionists, you will never win many over. Certainly not the lettered ones. |
plaetton:Double the pity. |
plaetton:What a pity. For a well educated man, at that. Enjoy. |
onetrack:. . . .Don't mean to sound all conspiracy-theoryish here - but many believe leading world governments are already working on advanced plans for drastic population reduction. . . . |
4everGod:Or Belzebub, he might say. . . . |
4everGod:He often has the capacity to deliver such powerful blows of incongruity and clueless reasoning which is neither here nor there that I find myself reeling. |
plaetton:Jesus Wept! Just where did the written text state anything about the "foundations" it refers to being unique to the Earth? ? ? ? Sometimes I wonder how you read - upside down. The very same thing that afflicts the religious afflicts you: desperate fanaticism. It blinds you to elementary reason. |
^^^ Plaetton Einstein and Seun Einstein - I really don't know how you brilliant Physics Laureates failed to recognize the said "gravitational bubble" as the "foundations fastened" written therein. It's such a pity party to see one of you also alluding to the "opinion" of one of Job's friends in order to exculpate himself from the implications of the knowledge stated therein. As for Seun, his motivations are understandable. Making kindergarten statements by the dozen as he has been doing of late is obviously simply intended to keep traffic going on his forum in these hard times right? But as for you Plaetton, you have never needed an excuse have you. . . . ? |
ifenes:Why do you think this. Besides what do you mean "if left alone to evolve." Who/ what is stopping man from evolution? Why would further evolution lead to man becoming Big - Foot |
^^^ Only such ones as declare that there exist no controversies or disputes on the Theory of Evolution. Now I am sure glad I didn't declare that, my good friend. |
plaetton:Oh no my friend, surely you do not expect me to begin to go about attempting to shew this statement to be false: ~ ""there are no controversies and no disputes about the Theory of Evolution," ~ Plaetton You must regard me as the Town Jester. |
plaetton:Oh no not at all sire: nevertheless it is a straight lie to say that "there are no controversies and no disputes about the Theory of Evolution," - your words exactly. Is it not? |
plaetton:This is a straightforward lie. |
plaetton:I am sure you know very well that this is not what I am saying. I am talking about knowing the inner thoughts of animals on such a largely impenetrable matter as this. Studying animal behavior on diet, or se.x and reproduction or some other easily observable thing is a far different proposition than attempting to state positively how an animal views the universe, and stating on its behalf its unspoken thoughts on such a matter. |
plaetton:Can you see the way you read and the sorts of leaps of assumptions you make? Where did I say the bold and particularly how did I suggest the bold in red? |
plaetton:This is because you despise reading. Rather than merely asking me ' how do you know that' , it would have made much sense for you to have made a case for the opposite .I did. And even where I didn't the case remains true that he who asserts must prove. I can see no proof for your broad and sweeping statements regarding animals. For centuries, we have been studying and observing animal behaviors and behavior patterns. This is no news to me my friend: the study of the animal world is one of my deepest interests and always has been. The animal world is far deeper and more fascinating than you obviously think. If you were aware of the above, you would not draw my attention to this: nor would you underestimate the "spirituality" of animals. Animals do not show any behavior patterns that remotely resemble worship or acknowledgement of deities. How do you know this? Animals do not speak human language. As such, I do not know how you expect their actions to mirror human actions in all respects. There are many things that humans do, which animals also do but simply in a very different way. Even humans have varying understandings of the term "worship". For many people it may be something formal such as with activities within a religious group. For others, living life to the fullest and fulfilling your place in nature is worship of the Creator. How you know for a fact that animals do not have an instinctive urge or sub conscious grasp of this, beats me. Animals have many instinctive urges which are hard to explain but which are pre-programmed into their psyche by the Creator(s). How you suddenly have an omniscient knowledge of all of these instincts to such an extent that you are able to make a positive declaration about deities as far as animals are concerned, I really do not know. Are you able to read all the thoughts of all animals. Or do you suppose that they do not have thoughts? Tell me this, honestly, I would be intrigued. Humans worship many things as deities: including fellow humans - and heck even worship some animals as deities as well, and even stumps of wood to boot. How you can say that animals do not, for example, show the same kind of worship to their human owners in many cases, only perhaps shows me that you are not familiar with the behavior of many animals, particularly domesticated animals. For your pet, you are a god, and it accords you worship in many ways. They also do not show anxieties about an after life, talkless of buying insurance policies for such, as you do.This is false, I pointed out to you how they attempt to protect the gene pool. Once again you comically expect the animal to stroll into an Insurance office and ask for a Life Insurance Policy, don't you? You are funny. Attempting to do everything to protect the gene pool and the life of its young is it effort at life insurance. Taking on protective mates is another. Now, if you think otherwise, kindly present your facts , and stop weaving these tangled noodles of words you're very fond of.I have done so. It is you who has made wild assumptions and presented nothing. |
plaetton:Many times, to be honest with you, I am sincerely forced to believe that you either do not read what is written, or you gloss over it, or you simply super-impose your own previously held notions onto it. I actually gave you point to think on, regarding what you said - and I referred to specific patterns of animal behavior to rebut what you said. Whilst I will respond again to this post - please note that your reference to the scientific study of animal behavior (which I am a great fan of) does not in anyway support your points. If anything, much study into animal behavior raises questions the answers to which may likely hold you against your assumptions. |
plaetton:Small Question: How exactly do you know this? How exactly do you know that Animals do not worship God? ~ Have you spoken with any animal who let you into this secret? ~ If Animals were to worship God, would you recognize their mode of doing so, when they do it? ~ Would you expect to see them in prayerful dispositions or setting up churches or temples or mosques? I was actually attacked and mock for asking such kindergarten question. As well you should. Like this OP has written, without man , there are no gods.Just as surely as without man, who would conceive of the bbig bbang? Surely, without man, it never occurred, no? Man is the creator of god.Just as Isaac Newton invented gravity, no? Animals do not have an after death phobia.Again, how exactly do you know this? What village meeting of Animals did you attend, where animal professors explained this to you? Because, what is obvious is that they exhibit a fear of death and do everything possible to avoid dying. Further - many animals also mourn their dead, and exhibit grief and befuddlement at the phenomenon of losing a family member. Why do you think this is so? Have you ever been a bereavement counselor to any animal whereof such an animal patient of yours informed you that it had no phobia about the after life? Animals do not need insurance policies Redeemable after death.Who told you this? Why do you think animals show extreme concern about their next generation - going so far as to murder the young of possible competing genes in some cases (such as lions). Behavior which may very well suggest clear interest in the status of the gene pool, not just while they are alive but after they are dead? Animals don't have a desire to live forever. Then why do they avoid death? My friend, it seems to me you have made gross assumptions here - very akin to the type of assumptions you accuse theists of making! |
plaetton:Fully self aware, self-conscious, sentient and sapient? |
chieveboy:I concur, and I really don't know how anyone in their right senses could imagine that it is. Worse than that, attempt to attribute self-awareness the inverse way - i.e: working from physical interactions of particles up to self consciousness rather than the other way round - i.e - soul using mind to control body. |
plaetton:I read the link and I must say I felt a sorry chill of sadness and disappointment in you for citing that link at all in support of what you are trying to say. Really really disappointing. |
