How long has the earth been here? billions of years?
is that enough time for plenty "Micro"??

davidylan: The problem DS and I were pointing to was that for someone who claims to be a firm believer in the scientific alternative to creation, you shld know the difference between homo erectus and homo sapiens. We were taught that in secondary school.
@ Ghostofathens - THIS above is THE EXACT ISSUE.

ANYBODY can make a mistake: I have myself, SEVERAL TIMES - corrected notably by Prizm and my eternal nemesis, Enigma - that's not a problem.

The problem is exactly what Davidylan has mentioned above: you set out to mock Theists using evolution as a prop, and you do not even know the first thing about it. As David said, no one needs to be an expert - its freaking JSS level knowledge!

Now how do you expect those theists who are HIGHLY SCHOOLED in science and evolution, to feel, WHEN you spew such nonsense and attempt to ask them to "school up" on evolution? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Its just the way i feel when many Christians who have never read the bible urge me to read the bible! And this happens EVERYDAY!

I wasn't expecting that religionists would be you: Mr. DDS (Deep Dafted Sight). I wasn't even expecting you'll shoot yourself multiple times this time around with the Russian Roulette I sub-consciously keep giving you.

Mr. DDS, doesn't your reasoning faculty find it conflicting for you to accept the Scientific/Evolutionary theory that the Homo-Erectus whom you quoted to have lived between 1.3million to 1.8million years ago clearly contradicts the Biblical/Creationist account of the earth creation 6,000 years ago?

ghostofsparta: Evolution theory is responsible for the process that took place leading to our present human form - Homo-erectus.
Chei, see illiteracy. So our present human form is homo erectus? ? ? ? ? ?

And you dared open a boastful thread claiming to teach people evolution.

You are a disgrace.

Abeg helep yasef -

Homo erectus (meaning "upright man," from the Latin ērĭgĕre, "to put up, set upright" ) is an extinct species of hominid that lived from the end of the Pliocene epoch to the later Pleistocene, about 1.3 to 1.8 million years ago. The species originated in Africa and spread as far as India, China and Java.[1][2] There is still disagreement on the subject of the classification, ancestry, and progeny of H. erectus, with two major alternative classifications: erectus may be another name for Homo ergaster, and therefore the direct ancestor of later hominids such as Homo heidelbergensis, Homo neanderthalensis, and Homo sapiens; or it may be an Asian species distinct from African ergaster.[1][3][4] Some paleoanthropologists consider H. ergaster to be simply the African variety of H. erectus, this leads to the use of the term "Homo erectus sensu stricto" for the Asian H. Erectus, and "Homo erectus sensu lato" for the larger species comprising both the early African populations (H. ergaster) and the Asian populations.[5][6]

Kay 17: I doubt the credibilty of your story.
Its extremely presumptuous for you to say this. Such things happen to many people every single day - I know from personal experience.

Dreams are not rare or the preserve of the selected few, everyone dreams. Based on most experiences, having dreams doesn't prove a knowledge of the future, if not all that dreams will be able to conclusively show dreams are future events.
This contains an acknowledgement that some do.

There is no way, you can show reasonably that your story is not false.
Oh come on. How can you say this? So any one who relates a dream that comes to pass in clear detail is lying.

Anyway i leave you guys to it. The fact is that these things are not communicable.

Currently there are no official churches in Saudi Arabia of any Christian denomination.[3] The small number of Saudi Arabian Christians meets in internet chat rooms and private meetings.[3] Foreign Christians may meet at church meetings held at one of several embassies after registering and showing their passport to prove foreign nationality, or by private assemblies in school gyms located in gated communities on Aramco grounds. They can also hold services in each others houses.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_in_Saudi_Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an Islamic theocratic monarchy in which Islam is the official religion. Although no law requires citizens or passport holders to be Muslim, almost all citizens are Muslims. Non-Islamic proselytism is illegal,[1] and conversion by Muslims to another religion (apostasy) carries the death penalty. As of 2010, there had been no confirmed reports of executions for apostasy for several years.[2] In February 2012, King Abdullah ordered[3] Hamza Kashgari to be arrested after three Twitter messages of his were interpreted as insults to Mohammad.[4]

Religious freedom is virtually non-existent. The Government does not provide legal recognition or protection for freedom of religion, and it is severely restricted in practice. As a matter of policy, the Government guarantees and protects the right to private worship for all, including non-Muslims who gather in homes for religious practice; however, this right is not always respected in practice and is not defined in law.[5] Moreover, the public practice of non-Muslim religions is prohibited.[2] The Saudi Mutaween (Arabic: مطوعين), or Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (i.e., the religious police) enforces the prohibition on the public practice of non-Muslim religions. Sharia Law applies to all people inside Saudi Arabia, regardless of religion.

Can you tell me whether the foregoing are in tandem with universal principles on freedom of religion, thought and conscience.

Particularly I ask you, TBABA1234, to tell me if YOU believe in freedom of religion, thought and conscience?

tbaba1234: I suspected there was an emotional undertone to this because you are usually more articulated...
Of course there is an emotional undertone. It may have missed you that I very deliberately cited that personal case in order to show exactly why non-religious people become militant and evangelical in espousing their non-religious position.

The reason is exactly what I laid out in that personal instance of mine: the fact that religion can and does interfere with our lives and personal freedoms and liberties.

I am not going to waste my energy with you on this one because its obvious that you are closed minded on it on account of your primitive middle-eaastern religion.

The fact is that there is no reason whatsoever why two adults who love one another and are happy to permit one another to practice their faiths should be restricted from being together.

It is far worse when you permit one se.x to do so but deny the other se.x the same right.

The truth is, it was just a rule created to withhold your women from others whilst permitting you to have women of other faiths - and you know it.

Exactly the same way your egoistic islamic intolerance allows you to build mosques in the holy lands of other faiths, but no one dare build a church in Mecca.

It amuses me that someone as supposedly reasonable as yourself cannot see how hypocritical all these are.

Tsk. Enjoy.

Christianity Etc › Re: The End Of God Is Near by DeepSight(m): 1:23am On Jul 11, 2012
bayooooooo: On my way to church, it suddenly became clear - the end of God is near.

Two hundred thousand years ago, there was none of us modern human on earth. But what happened last week will be remembered some 200,000 years from now.

Scientists working at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, discovered Higgs boson, aka God particle. If it did not make front page in a newspaper where you live, it is because your society is yet to get to the point where empirical proof is more important than superstition.

In 1964, Peter Higgs proposed that there is an elementary particle that explains why particles have mass. The field of this particle gives mass by allowing other particles with multiple identities to exist in the same place and in the same quantum state. It does this by interacting with other subatomic particles in a way that it helps them to gain mass. Mass is what gives particles inertia. Without inertia objects cannot resist forces. Without forces, there won't be motion. “Without motion, nothing exists.”

So 50 years ago, scientists set out to prove Higgs’ theory that the God particle exists. They built the $10 billion dollar Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In it protons moving in a 17-mile long circular tunnel at near the speed of light smashed against each other at 11,000 times per second. It created mini-Big Bangs each second. Last week, after months of analyzing data, scientists announced the discovery of the God Particle.

If scientists had not found the God particle, everything we know about the universe would have been false. Now that they did, everything we knew about the universe had been false. It is a brand new world. The Dark Ages ended on Wednesday.

It will take another 2,000 years to know half of what this discovery means. And that is why you should care. Everything you think you know about life in this universe is on its way out. Not one. Not two - but all. It is so unsettling in scope that it is good that so many people are not even paying attention. It is more important that the transformation will not be overnight but rather in drops, bit by bit. Otherwise the current order will be so disturbed without a ready replacement. The creation of a vacuum with the potential to swallow everything will be so frightening.

I have always felt that people who clutch their Bible, Koran and other religious books in their armpits need to also pause, every now and then, to read scientific journals. If they do not read, at least pause and watch science programs like “Wonders of the Universe.” The world of modern science gives context to everything. The conclusion science will help keen observers arrive at is that these religious books understate God or that God underrepresented himself in them.

It is baffling that Africans who do not know how the fax machine works or how the television signals get into their televisions, are confident about the number of rooms in heaven and the best gate to get in.

These Africans believe that an old woman who lives down the road from them, who is probably suffering from amnesia or Alzheimer disease, is the one who tied the womb of their daughter. But their curiosity does not allow them to find out the science that this old woman uses to remotely get into the womb of their daughter and tie it. Maybe it is similar to the science of the fax machine.

Meanwhile in New Jersey, Prof. Jacques Cohen of the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of Saint Barnabas has created 30 healthy babies whose genes were genetically modified. Two of these children have the DNA of three parents. This is the first known alteration of the human gene line. The era of designer children and super humans are already with us. Prof. Cohen said that he could clone children too but wouldn't. But we know that somewhere in Israel and some other Island countries, where ethics laws are lax; cloning is being experimented with right now.

While Africans are still pointing accusing fingers at some old men and women, doctors in other parts of the world are helping any woman who wants a baby to have the exact kind of baby she wants.

The discovery of the God particle is not currently important to the everyday life of regular man and woman. But it is one million times more important than Isaac Newton’s discovery of gravity in 1687. And obviously more important than the discovery of the electron in 1897, without which you won’t be able to read this article off your computer screen. As advanced physical physics, the significance of the God particle is hard to explain. But it is a lot harder to explain it to those who do not understand how the fax machine works.

As big as this discovery is, it is not the greatest outcome of this research. What is mindboggling is man’s achievement of that elusive goal of designing a machine that will travel faster than light. We celebrated the breaking of the sound barrier. But it is the breaking of the speed of light that is full of opportunities. For one, we can now visit yesterday. It is no longer stuff of science fiction.

The earth that we live in is 4.6 billion years old. The last dinosaur died out some 65 million years ago. Two hundred thousand years ago, there was no modern human on this earth. No white, no black. No Igbo, no Hausa, no Yoruba. All these shenanigans going on now started some 200,000 years ago. This is just the first chapter of human life on earth. Not even a nuclear war, which is coming down the road, will destroy the world. Not even an asteroid, which will hit the world again, at the earliest 2040, will destroy it. The world will end when our 4.5 billion-year-old sun burns out. The earliest that will happen is 4-5 billion years from now when the sun will enter the red giant phase.

It doesn’t matter how many pilgrimages we Africans go to, the world is not headed to Jerusalem or Mecca. The world is headed to the bosom that modern science has prepared for it.

The discovery of the God particle, the very basic building block of the universe, firmly connects us to the Big Bang theory. The universe is no longer the question. And God is no longer the answer. Scientists are set to unmask God. It is the end of God as we know it.

Please correct me if I’m right.

plaetton: Interestingly,no thiests has ever advanced any real and tangible argument for the existence of the maker and puppet master of the universe. Thiests like Deepsight often harp on the intricate design and grandour of the universe as evidence for the existence of god, while ignoring the many contradictions of what is supposed to be a perfectly designed universe.
It beats my imagination why the designer and manager of the universe is somehow locked out of the peripheral view of our human senses, especially our common sense.

The ancients had strong beliefs in god simply because they did not understand much about their environment and the universe in general. But today we understand so much about our enviroment, and a lot about our universe.
The sad irony is that primitive societies or societies where the primitive mindset is still predominant are the ones with a stronger attachment to the belief in god.

Nigeria is a country where one can almost proclaim, with certainty , the none existence of god.
Just look at the level of godism in the country. If it was an exportable cash crop, we would be very very wealthy.
Every aspect of life in Nigeria clearly shows that god simlpy cannot exist.
The crime, the corruption, the social dislocations, the rapid descent of man back into the animal kingdom.

When I look at these things, the nagging question in mind is always, "where is god "?
Please get serious.

There is vaster order in the scheme of things than you care to contemplate.

Or than you can contemplate.

tbaba1234: Do not marry idolatresses until they believe: a believing slave woman is certainly better than an idolatress, even though she may please you. And do not give your women in marriage to idolaters until they believe: a believing slave is certainly better than an idolater, even though he may please you. Such people call [you] to the Fire, while God calls [you] to the Garden and forgiveness by His leave. He makes His messages clear to people, so that they may bear them in mind. (Surah 2:221)

For men, an exception is made for people of the book, Jews and christians but it must be chaste and pious women:

Today all good things have been made lawful for you. The food of the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) is lawful for you as your food is lawful for them. So are chaste, believing, women as well as chaste women of the people who were given the Scripture before you, as long as you have given them their bride-gifts and married them, not taking them as lovers or secret mistresses. The deeds of anyone who rejects faith will come to nothing, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. (Surah 5:5)

I don't understand where barbarism comes up here; A muslim is intellectually convinced that the Quran is the words of Allah. The laws are to protect the muslim, his faith and well-being.

Freedom of thought is done within the limits set by Allah ... Absolute freedom is an aberration
