Surely you can do better than this? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Sorry, but this is the most feeble response I have ever received to any argument on this forum.

You are very odd indeed. Everything you posted up there argues my case for me, for goodness sake - have a look at what the locals said the Wandinja are - creator gods of their world!Every single myth surrounding the issue argues in favour of my case and not yours.

Men, Seun, please listen to good advise from a person who loves Nairaland. This change is HORRIBLE in EVERY respect. I can assure you will loose a large amount of traffic from this change. The former version was cool, elegant, simple and easy to work. This one is nothing but a total monstrosity. Aside from being irredeemably ugly, its functions are difficult, and it is a total eyesore. My eyes hurt, just looking at it, mate. Please REVERT to the OLD version - its ten thousand times superior, I tell you!

Christianity Etc › Re: Darwin's Day by DeepSight(m):
Jayriginal -

The best argument for the existence of God is simple. Its called the cosmological argument. It goes largely as follows -

1. Whatever BEGINS to exist has a cause

2. The Universe BEGAN to exist

3. The Universe has a cause

The foregoing can be summarized as an offshoot from the laws of motion. Nothing can move without a triggering factor. NOTHING. The big bang was a major movement. It thus required a triggering factor. This CANNOT be disputed.

The only question therefore remains the NATURE of the triggering factor.

For that - I advance to you the argument that nothing can evolve from anything that does not bear elements of the succeeding thing within it. This wraps up the existence of God.

Also, the experiments of Louis Pasteur - life can only come from pre existing life.

Olaadegbu may make a caricature of proper arguments in the way he goes about it - but the fundamental sensing of a pre-existent purposeful cause is definitively correct.

What is this horrible new format on NL by the way, YUCK! Mods, remove it!

Martian.
Have you even read the book, dude, or are you just doing your regular wiki run on it, as usual?
@ Both. Please lets give it a final rest.I find the level of Martian's mockery odious. Simple rebuttals would be okay, but although i pleaded in the beginning for an absence of mockery, the thread has been an embarrasment of insults and mockery. Not even when I have pointed this out, has this abated. I thus wholly regret opening the thread and I apologise for doing so: I also apologise for my id.iotic and ignorant views expressed herein. Fellas, make we end am abeg.

The painting is dated to 10, 000 BC - Val Camonica, Italy.

Can you suggest an explanation for it,  kind, knowledgeble, scientific sir?

I called the paintings silly, if you are offended, too bad.
The paintings are silly? That's an odd assessment of any art. Much less 5000 year old art. I rather thought you were saying (and in fact, you WERE saying) that the presentation of the paintings as issues to be discussed was silly.

Such a statement - without a single attempt to discuss the paintings - IS, manifestly, silly, my friend.

Well, pick your favorite one, find out about the painter, what the painter saw and when it was painted. Then maybe we'll have proof.
Okay, lets discuss this one -

Christianity Etc › Re: Martian/ Plaetton - Let's Discuss Ancient Aliens by DeepSight(op): 7:20pm On Mar 10, 2012
Martian:
Those paintings are silly. There is one of the crucifixion of jesus and it included UFO for christ's sake!!! That's just too damned silly and I don't even feel like looking up the sources.
Maybe if you posted the sources, i'll look at them but I'm sure they all have rational xplanantions that don't need aliens.

The figurines don't prove anything that will suggest ET either.
Please be done with your abusive language already. Surely receiving no abusive language in return, for ten pages now, you must be tired of being insultive? Come on.

Now, it seems you miss the point of those paintings -

1. The issue is WHEN were those paintings made? If they were made in an age where the very concept of some of the things depicted had yet to be conceived - and depicted in such shapes, the the question is what eaxactly was teh artist conveying? Does it not emerge as a possibility that the artists are conveying sightings of the very same things reported today?

2. Lets leave the crucifixion painting if you hate it so much. There were many other highly suggestive paintings that I posted some of which are more than 5000 years old and which you surely must have an explanation for - rather than simply hand-waving and saying that "there must be a rational explanation" - while YOU offer NONE!

Actually, the Giza Pyramid did have outer encasing made of very shiny white tiles that were covered with inscriptions, hieroglyphs. These tiles were removed a long time ago, according to reports.
Ok, thanks, I stand corrected. I read about the outer encasing in that link above, but i didnt see anything about the outer inscriptions. Would have been great if we had a record of them - that would surely have put paid to speculations.

In the north and south walls of the Queen's Chamber there are shafts, which unlike those in the King's Chamber that immediately slope upwards, are horizontal for around 2m (6') before sloping upwards. The horizontal distance was cut in 1872 by a British engineer, Waynman Dixon, who believed on the analogy of the King's Chamber that such shafts must exist. He was proved right, but because the shafts are not connected to the outer faces of the pyramid or the Queen's Chamber, their purpose is unknown. At the end of one of his shafts, Dixon discovered a ball of black diorite and a bronze implement of unknown purpose. Both objects are currently in the British Museum.

Pyramid. Supposed tomb of pharoahs without a single corpse of any pharoah found in any pyramid so far.

Pyramid. Mega structure requiring decades to build and then completed without a single inscription of any kind left on any one of them. [Edit: Red hieroglyphs found in one interior chamber only] And this done by a people fond of writing and inscriptions.

Pyramid. Super structure with internal tunnels aligning with the stars.

Pyramid. O pyramid. Reveal thy secrets.

1Godfather:
On a different note, let us consider the vastness of galaxies as our starting point. This Milky Way galaxy has between 200-300 billion suns (stars)! These stars often have their own planetary systems that revolve around them. Indeed, as we are finding out, there are indeed much bigger stars than our sun all spread out within this one galaxy. And mind you, we are talking about vast swaths of real estate here. As if that is not incomprehensibly large already, you should note that in the universe there are billions upon billions of galaxies!
Which makes the idea that we are alone in the universe outrightly untenable.

If current physics suggests that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, you are at once left wondering how intergalactic travel is possible.
1. It needn't be intergalactic. Could be within this galaxy alone. As you pointed out, there are 200 - 400 billion suns in this galaxy alone - most with planets in orbit around them! So mere interstellar travel is the minimum needed, not necessarily intergalactic.

2. Current physis does indeed limit speed to the speed of light - but let us remember that that is current physics. We cannot know what future physics will present, as our civilization is still quite young. We also cannot know what physics may be deployed by an alien civilization. Infact, on earth already, there is talk about such things as travel in the universe through wormholes, etc. There could also Gaps in the fabric of space which permit movement from one distant end of the universe to another, in an instant. I do not know, we do not know, (and I personally have issues with some of these theories) but one thing we can never do is to limit the possibilities based on current knowledge of physics alone. In 1912 something akin to a fax machine appeared in a sci-fi comic. It was science fiction then. A wonderful idea that a letter could be sent in an instant across the world was seen as sci fi then. Of course, the fax machine of today does just that, and it does not even rank amongst the more astonishing technological feats since then. If technology has come this far within the last 100 years only, it is only left to the imagination what we would achieve given say, 10, 000 more years of steady technological advancement.

Well, maybe the gods will come down from the sky and destroy the tower of babel again.

One view among scientists concerning the origin of anatomically modern humans is the recent African origin of modern humans hypothesis (the "recent single-origin hypothesis" or "recent out-of-Africa" model),[10][11][12] which posits that Homo sapiens arose in Africa and migrated out of the continent some 50,000-100,000 years ago, replacing populations of Homo erectus in Asia and Neanderthals in Europe. An alternative multiregional hypothesis posits that Homo sapiens evolved as geographically separate but interbreeding populations stemming from the worldwide migration of Homo erectus out of Africa nearly 2.5 million years ago. Evidence suggests that several haplotypes of Neanderthal origin are present among all non-African populations, and Neanderthals and other hominids, such as Denisova hominin may have contributed up to 6% of their genome to present-day humans
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_evolution

I just continue to have difficulties believing that recorded (written) human history only stretches back less than 7, 000 years.

Something huge is missing somewhere.

Aaaarrrrgggggghhhhh! I just CANNOT take this anymore!

1. What the hell is the difference between Jesus seeling stuff and "his ministry" selling stuff? ? ? ? Even in the context of the particular discussion it was always about the propriety of a ministry selling stuff, no? So a refernce to Jesus' ministry doing such is not misrepresented when it is said that Jesus did such.

2. It is more than obvious, save to the willful ostrich, that the question regarding selling perfume would not have been put if it were not a practice already.

3. There is nothing wrong with it! - - - save if there is an attempt to use such simple and necessary trade as justification for the unbridled commercialism of today's churches. That, of course, would be wrong.

Why I love this forum is the fact that in writing only, one sees the mind better even, than close relatives tend to do sometimes - for one sees the inner annoymous conviction.
