Festus Keyamo`s declaration for Senate is a welcome development though i would have preferred to have him declare as a governorship candidate where if he succeeds his impact would be truly and directly felt by the Delta people but i like his person for his ability to reason and not allow his senses to be beclouded by praise singers. I am afraid how the majority of the opposition in the senate will frustrate his numerous people oriented policies and programmes mentioned in his manifesto..It is a welcome development and hope he will represent what he stood for in the legal profession. I also want to use this opportunity to encourage other well meaning Youths to join any political party of their choice and give not only the Youths but all Nigerians a hope to be proud to be Nigerians..Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

If i am in position of authority my first question will be directed to the town planning authority and not the church...The worshipers dont observe their service or whatever they went their to do on the road and you will agree with me that they also go through immense pain trying to get to their camp as well due to the gridlock. Our government should wake up to their responsibility, carry out an environment assessment impact and proffer a solution which shall be conveyed to the Church to adhere to or face the revocation of their approval or certificate of Occupancy..Be rest assured that the Church will comply with whatever solution the government proffers.

It would be reasonable to vent your anger on the authorities that failed to carry out the environmental impact assessment test of the church on that road before approving the plan of the church project...My friend I am not holding brief for the church but what you are seeing on that road is the result of having slowpokes in position of authority...

Guk: (1) There is nothing to learn from Jakande Low cost houses. They are all collapsing 30 years after. Go to Jakande on lekki Expressway. Go to Adeniji Adele; Go to Isolo and Iponri low cost and you will see the evidence of bad projects by Jakande.

(2) It is not Lagos State Govt's business where they are going to live or when has it been LASG's business where you have chosen to live? Govts all over the world have housing scheme for subscribers whether poor or rich and if you qualify, you are allocated one but are Nigerians willing to meet the requirements of qualification? as we always feel we are smart and seek to circumvent the laws.

(3) It is only a WICKED person that will say Badia should not be cleared out. I have been involved with an NGO that raised money for kids living in a place called Dustbin Village where people were living on dumpsites. Is it your wish for someone to keep living there? why dont you exchange your own comfort and go live there. Same for Makoko where i have also gone to help young children there too

Dude there is so much to learn from it, first it provided accommodation for low-income earners most especially civil servants for over 30 years....Most who got these houses have since sold them, retired and relocated to their home state to build more descent two,three rooms and 2 bedroom flats for those who are buoyant. Who are the owners of the present government buildings? How many people are aware of the time of allocation of these buildings after it has been constructed? If you have really gone out there to help these poor ones I doubt you will support the government to throw them out without adequate compensation or temporary relocation irrespective of owns the land....During his campaign for re-election did he put it up to them as part of his manifesto that he will demolish their houses without adequate compensation or relocation? I am sure he promised them heaven on earth......

Yes and that government responsibility you mentioned is to bulldoze the houses of the poor dwellers, throw them to the streets and when they become artificial destitute as created by the government they arrest them and deport them to their home state...my friend if the LASG is responsible they will take head counts of these slum dwellers,set up a committee to assess the impact of the demolition on the lives of these people and proffer solutions before brining in the bulldozers..the fact is destroying theses slums without adequate compensation or relocation as stated by amnesty does not solve the problem because having destroyed their homes they will find another conducive environment to start another slum and the government will not notice it until when they start looking for a parcel of land to fulfill their respective objectives of self enrichment. Now answer these question: having demolished the slums in Ijora Badia can you tell me where the dwellers reside at the moment? Have they all gone back to their villages?

The truth be told, provided you did not buy the land and it is not your inheritance, you
do not have any claim to it whatsoever.
It amazes me how some organisations make noise out of nothing. Even outside of the country,
despite the fact that the land is yours or your inheritance, you are still told what and how to build
on it because there is a master plan. If you left your village without penny, what do you expect

Young man nobody is laying claim to the purported land and nobody is saying slums should not be developed, what we are saying is government responsibility towards its poor citizens who lives in slums...keep your bigotry at home and don't bring it to a public forum, you think everyone in the slums of Lagos are non-indigenes? We also have Lagosians living in slums...drop your myopic view of issues and embrace looking at matters from a wholistic perspective as it affects Nigerians.

What is the role of a local town planning council if not to determine that a building is fit for purpose but also in consonance with the flow of traffic within close proximity?

My solution, if you must know, would involve getting those organisations to scale down their operations to the point where there is some semblance of harmony with the environment. I see no reason why innocent road users have to be subjected to major inconveniences, when the churches involved can easily adopt tele-conferencing solutions which would allow live-broadcasts to linked centres situated elsewhere.

The never-ending encroachment that continues to circumscribe the quality of life along that axis has to stop. It is as ungodly as it is uncharitable!

Then in that context the appropriate authority before taking bribe and approving the building of this gigantic churches on highways should do their assessment or home work and not turn around to put the blame on the churches...on their assessment if this area is not fit for the purported church project do you think they will say no and refuse to approve the project plan? My point is the government and its agencies responsible for the control of this madness has failed and needs to wake up to their responsibility.

ba7man: I supervise construction sites so i make sure i employ them....only if they're skilled. If they have a skill and they're good at it, I use them as my constant workers in any site i'm on. I have workers i'v been using for years now.

They must have a skill for me to help them and if they don't, I hire them as site labourers. If they obtain skills and people related to their area of specialization hire them, they'll be less poor on the streets.

We all have a part to play, not just the Government. The educational system isn't helping too when they train people to be job seekers not job creators.

The question is did they build the church on the road? Lagos-Ibadan road ought to be dualized to at lease accommodate 10 vehicles on each lane and ensure that all vehicles veering to these churches or whatever maintain a single lane...Where else should they locate this churches? I wish Joe Igbokwe proffered a solution in his write up. It's simply the failure of the government to live upto its responsibility and they should be held responsible for the sufferings and death of Nigerians on that road.

I didn't drive today, I walked from Jibowu to Yaba and some of the poor i saw will be better off in their villages.

When a "poor" man sees a large body of water, he sees a refuse bin and a toilet while those not poor see beauty and a place of relaxation they'd pay to live by. Its the same way the poor view the environment around them.


I'm against total segregation of them but they should still be checks and balances in place to curtail their excesses.

Our Political Elites,i mean the older generation of thieves are the problem of Nigeria Youths..They have virtually destroyed all the platforms required for the growth and development of the youths.They have failed to lay a good foundation,footstep and walk paths for the Youths to follow....What attitude you see the average Nigeria youth exhibiting today is the foot path,foundation that was handed over to them...The Older generation should be grateful that they have Youths who believes in the African principle of "You must respect your elders". The Lagos State Government has continued to act with impunity without regards for the lives,safety and well being of the poor..What is the essence of Government if it cannot guaranty the right of the weak,hopeless and voiceless..I know the Bible and Quran lays emphases on how the poor amongst us should be treated,yet Churches and Mosques are thronged with our rulers from the Federal Government,to the Sates and Local Government but they cannot put this simple but important commandment of God to help the poor into practice..Hypocrites.
