RomanceRe: He Had Sex With My Friend And I Did Same With His Friend Too by Deepthoughts: 1:53am On Mar 26, 2019
EmagNig:
An African lady, while expressing herself and revealing the reason why her boyfriend broke up with her, has said he had sex with her friend and in retaliation, she did same to him.

The lady also stated that her boyfriend turned into a preacher weeks after the incident and he reportedly gave a testimony in church on how God saved him from a terrible situation, which was her.

Read her tweet:

So my Ex is a preacher now and he is using me as a testimony of how God can deliver you from bad situations. Men are trash. The thing is, He slept with My friend and I slept with his.

He sent long messages after he found out and left. Weeks later he is a preacher at a local church saying how God delivered him, like Dude was that holy in this?

An agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost his hand following the widespread violence and unchecked intimidation of voters during Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in Kano state.

It was gathered that the agent was attacked by thugs and had his hand cut off for reportedly supporting the opposition party. He was rushed to the hospital where he is recovering from the injury sustained.

Meanwhile, violence erupted in Kano as can be seen in the videos below, following the declaration of incumbent governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as winner of the governorship election in Kano State, thereby returning him for a second term in office.

Aggrieved people turned out in large numbers and were desperate to force their way into the state INEC office, but for the timely intervention of the police, who had also positioned themselves in some places around the state INEC office.

PoliticsRe: Desperation Will Make Senators, Reps Repeat Saraki’s Stunt — Abdulmumin by Deepthoughts: 10:48am On Mar 25, 2019
Okwyla:
Jubrin Abdulmumin, a member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, has expressed fears that high level lobbying already going on among elected senators and House of Representatives members over leadership positions in the 9th legislature may result in similar circumstances that saw Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara clinching the positions in the 8th NASS.

According to the former chairman of Appropriations Committee, who was once suspended by the House, what lawmakers should be looking out for ahead of the inauguration of the ninth Assembly should be leaders who are ready to commit to electronic system or reforms in the National Assembly, such that when lawmakers are voting on any bill, the constituencies where they come from will be visible.

The member who was at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, at the weekend to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election, made these observations before the number one citizen.

He said any member aspiring to occupy leadership position in NASS, should be ready to commit to opening up attendance of members, publish it, so that our constituents will be able to see whether their members or senators attend sittings or not.

According to Abdulmumin, who became famous following “budget padding” in the 8th Assembly, a prospective Senate President or Speaker should be ready to commit to town hall meetings that are attended by members, including a desire to run a functional constituency office that funds are always provided for.

Asked what was his mission to the State House and he had this to say, “Of course, I met with Mr. President, first to greet him as usual, for all he has done and to also congratulate him and offer few advice.

“Because we all know the political issues now as matters related to the election of the leadership of the National Assembly”.

When State House correspondents asked him if he was nursing any fears over the underground lobbying, he said, “Well the position of our party and our leaders has always been that all elected members and of course, senators should exercise patience, work is going on, consultations are being carried out and I believe that no elected senator or members of APC would allow himself to be used by the opposition like in the case of 2015.

“In the case of 2015, there wasn’t consequences, but I am pretty sure that this time around, if anybody allowed himself to be used by the opposition party, there will certainly be consequences.

“That is what is expected. But as you are also aware, they are mature people, they are elected members, there are need for engagement, need for a lot of lobbying – that is what is obtainable all over the world. And we have in the person of the president, our father, who is reaching out to everybody and of course the party chairman and other leaders working day and night consulting members and lobbying where they should so that at the end of the day we can have a very smooth leadership election.

“But of course, that is not to say that there is no some kind of elements of desperation as you can see, a lot of people coming out to indicate interest. Personally, I have complained about that and the way and manner they are going about it, it’s a bit unhealthy for the party, because at the end of the day only one person will emerge Senate President and only one person will become the Speaker and other principal officers.

“So we need to start imbibing the culture of putting the country first or the party first before ourselves. Personally, I have demonstrated that because I have indicated that I am not interested in gunning for the office of the speaker, deputy speaker or any principal officer because of how chucked up the whole system is as regard the number of people that are contesting.

“Just to open up space, and allow some of us to sit down and organise and ensure that the government and of course the party, eventually have the kind of parliament or the kind of leadership of the National Assembly that they can work with harmoniously.

“One of the very important issues that we tend to forget is that completely the narrative has changed. All of us tend to be focused on who you want, who want to contest, who wants powers, who wants to grab office A or office B.

“We have completely forgotten that what is equally important is for us to start asking the question, what commitment is the person who will emerge or we are ready to support, ready to commit to the basic issues.”

I’ll Respect APC’s Position On Zoning— Lawan

Meanwhile, Senator Ahmad Lawan, one of the frontline aspirants for the position of Senate President in the incoming National Assembly, said on Sunday that he was ready to subject his aspiration to the decision of the party on zoning.

According to him, as a politician, he believes in the supremacy of the party and, as such, would withdraw from the race the moment the party zoned the position to another geo-political zone different from his.

Declaring his interest in the office of Senate President at an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos on Sunday, Senator Lawan said his determination was to preside over a Senate that worked for Nigeria and Nigerians irrespective of political or other sectional considerations.

“I will respect the party supremacy and I will respect the wishes of my party if it decides to zone the Senate President to another zone that is not my own,” he said.

He also said his aspiration had received the support of a majority of his colleagues in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties.

Lawan, the Senate Leader in the eighth National Assembly, said his desire to become the number three citizen was about working for the interest of all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.

He said: “Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is here. He is from YPP stock. We have been talking to everyone, even PDP senators-elect. We have a secretariat and we visit people in their homes whose names I can’t mention here.

“But we have so many PDP senators-elect who have identified with this aspiration. What we are doing is not about APC. What we are doing is about Nigeria and Nigerians. When we provide a secure country, it is for all Nigerians, whether you are APC or PDP or you have no political party at all.

“This is 2019 and I know that for us, in the National Assembly, attention will be on the emergence of our leadership that will work for Nigerians between 2019 and 2023.

“One thing I will like to say is that my party should remain focused and not get distracted. We are already facing the right direction in terms of giving Nigerians leadership.

“We must do everything together in the legislature and the administration to deliver to Nigerians who have reposed confidence in President Buhari and the APC by voting us for a second term.”

Senator Lawan was accompanied by a powerful lobby group of senators, including Senators Oluremi Tinubu, Francis Alimekhena, Teslim Folarin, Aliyu Shabi, Fola Adeola, among others.

Also with him were some newly elected senators, including senator-elect Opeyemi Bamidele, Ifeanyi Ubah, among others.

While declaring his belief in the principle of separation of powers, he nevertheless affirmed that the principle was not an infinite elasticity as he said that all arms of government must have a convergent relationship to project the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Declaring how he had over the years remained consistent in the opposition despite the lure of the former ruling PDP, he said: “This is the first time I have been in a party running the government. I was in the ANPP throughout till we came to power.

“I am a believer in the separation of powers, but it is not an infinite elasticity.”

Apc thinks all her members should worship buhari but them go hear whiiiin!,every elected senator or rep member should be competent to lead the house, like one senator said,Apc should just zone the positions then allow all members from such zone to contest instead of insisting on a particular person, that raises suspicion, personally I strongly feel that Ahmed lawan will be a complete stooge of buhari, Nigerians will sing the praises of saraki very very soon.

PoliticsRe: Obasanjo: Those Discouraging Atiku From Challenging Buhari In Court Are Evil by Deepthoughts: 9:40pm On Mar 23, 2019
themomentng:
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says those opposed to the decision of Atiku Abubakar to seek legal redress over the outcome of the presidential election have evil minds.

Atiku, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost to President Muhammadu Buhari in the March 23 election.

Speaking on the judgement of the Osun governorship tribunal, Obasanjo said Atiku did the right thing by challenging Buhari’s victory.

He said without a reasonable cause, Buhari went to the court to challenge his loss in three elections, wondering why some people were trying to “stop Atiku from going to court”.

On Friday, the tribunal declared Ademola Adeleke of the PDP as winner of the September 2018 election in the state.

In a statement on Saturday, Obasanjo said the nullification of the election, which he described as an illegality, has given renewed confidence in the judiciary.

“While I was in Dubai to attend the Global Education and Skills Forum meeting, I received the news of the judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal declaring Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the winner of the 2018 Governorship election in the state,” Obasanjo said.

“Let me take this opportunity to commend the tribunal for its courage in nullifying what was clearly an illegality. This action by the judicial officers, albeit a first step in the legal process, gives renewed confidence in the judiciary at a time when there are coordinated efforts by some political leaders to undermine, if not destroy, it.

“As I have repeatedly said, the world is watching events in Nigeria with keen interest. What we do or do not do right in our electoral process will have implications not just for Nigeria but for Africa and indeed the world. By correcting what was clearly a desperate attempt to change the will of the Osun people, the tribunal has saved Nigeria from great embarrassment and started the process of saving and strengthening our democracy.

“Let me also commend Sen. Adeleke for his statesmanship in going to court to seek justice. This is the right and proper thing to do in any decent society. Going to court must be encouraged and not discouraged as some people are now attempting to do.

“And if Buhari could go to court three times to seek justice, even without reasonable cause, any Nigerian who feels denied of justice must feel free to go to court.

“Those who have conceived and are promoting the narrative that if Atiku Abubakar continues to seek legal redress there will be violence, are evil minds looking for excuse to unleash violence on Nigerians. At no time in history has sustainable peace been built on theft, injustice, corruption and inequity.”

PoliticsRe: Okorocha Selling Imo Government's Property — Deputy Governor, PDP by Deepthoughts: 7:46pm On Mar 21, 2019
BleedingPen:
Okorocha Selling Imo Govt’s Property — Deputy Gov, PDP Alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has raised the alarm that Governor Rochas Okorocha is selling government properties since after losing election, Igbere TV reports.

Similarly, Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, have again raised the alarm that government vehicles and equipment are either being moved to undisclosed places or ordered to be auctioned.

While the PDP, through its State Secretary, Nze Ray Emeana, distributed documentary evidence to journalists in Owerri yesterday, the deputy governor released a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Uche Onwuchekwa, which contained the memo earlier issued by the Imo State government announcing the auctioning of vehicles. The statement was made available to Igbere TV on Thursday.

According to the document, SGI/S.00500/T.2/212, no fewer than 71 vehicles, including Toyota Hilux, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Prado and Toyota Hiace are being auctioned by the Imo State government.

Part of the memo reads: “Sales of unserviceable vehicles”, signed by Mrs. Ukaigwe Julia, for the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, read: “I am directed to refer to Government House letter No SGI/S.0011/T.4/X dated 23 November, 2018, on the above subject and inform you that His Excellency, Owelle (Dr.) Rochas Okorocha, has appointment (sic) His Royal Highness, Eze (Dr.) M. U. Osakwe, Nnachi of Amannachi, all as the Auctioneer for the 71 unserviceable vehicles shown on the attached list.

“I am further directed to request that you accord him unfettered access to the items as listed. Your necessary cooperation is humbly solicited in this regard, while assuring you the best wishes of the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, please.”

Another document dated February 16, 2019, originating from Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Centre, and obtained by Igbere TV, sought approval for valuation of abandoned vehicles.

The memo addressed to the Commissioner for Works reads: “Sequel to the directives and recovery of certain number of abandoned scrap vehicles in our premises, they are merely body carcass without engines, thus, nuisance and eye sore. We hereby, do invite your office to come, inspect and conduct valuation for necessary action. Your response to this urgent matter is appreciated.”

The PDP State Secretary however maintained that “although these mails were backdated to suit their illegal design to emasculate the new administration, all actions took place last week”.

He warned people against buying any government property “because the Emeka Ihedioha administration will recover all of them”.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor has accused Governor Rochas Okorocha of surreptitiously moving the generator serving his office to an undisclosed place, without his knowledge.

Onwuchekwa described Okorocha’s action as “wicked and intentionally hatched with a motive of rendering the Office of the Deputy Governor ineffective and to administratively stagnate it to the extent of making it incapable of attending to its constitutional roles.”

Ratello:
INEC Explains A-Z About Electronic Card Readers

SAN FRANCISCO, March 04, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) explains the A-Z about its voting card readers in this question and answer statement below:

Question 1: Why use Card Readers?

Answer: For the first time in Nigeria’s electoral history, electronic voter authentication system, with the aid of smart card readers, is being deployed for the 2015 general elections. Using Card Readers has enormous advantages, which include:

Once configured, the Card Reader can only read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Any person that shows up at the polling unit without a PVC or with a card not issued by INEC will not be able to vote.
The Card Reader reads the embedded chip on the PVC, not the barcode, and it shares a secret code with the PVC; thus it is impossible to falsify the cards.
The Card Reader authenticates the identity of the voter by cross-matching his/her fingerprints with that stored on the embedded chip. No person can vote using another person’s PVC.
The Card reader keeps a tally of all cards read, comprising the details of all voters verified as well as those not verified, and transmits the collected information to a central INEC server via GSM data service.
Information transmitted to the server will enable INEC to audit results from polling units, as well as do a range of statistical analysis of the demographics of voting.
Collation officers will also be able to use information transmitted by the Card Reader to audit polling unit result sheets and determine whether accreditation figures have been altered.
Question 2: Is the usage of Card Readers for 2015 elections legal?

Answer: The use of the Card Reader for the purpose of accreditation of voters is one of the innovations introduced by the Commission to improve the integrity of the electoral process. It does not violate the Electoral Act 2010, as Amended, or the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as Amended. It adds value to the process in line with the yearnings of Nigerians for credible elections, and accords with international best practices.  Whereas the Electoral Act prohibits the use of electronic voting, the Card Reader is not a voting machine and is not used for voting. The Card Reader is used only for accreditation of voters, and only accreditation (and not voting) data is transmitted by it.

Question 3: How does the Card Reader work?

Answer: The Card Reader uses a highly secure cryptographic technology that is used commonly in devices that need to perform secure transactions, such as paying terminals. It has ultra-low power consumption, with a single core frequency of 1.2GHz and an Android 4.2.2. Operating System. The INEC staff operating the Card Reader will scan the PVC of each voter to verify its genuiness before allowing the voter to get accredited. It takes an average of 10 to 20 seconds to authenticate a voter.

Question 4: How long is the battery life of the Card Reader?

Answer: The Card reader has a 3200mAh battery, which can lasts for about 12 hours in continual usage when fully charged. The device hibernates when not in use to save and lengthen the battery life.

Question 5: Who operates the Card Reader at the Polling Unit?

Answer: An Assistant Presiding Officer (APO) at the polling unit has the responsibility to operate the Card Reader. Poll officials that will operate the Card Readers have received extensive hands-on training and are well equipped to handle the task. The Commission has also painstakingly outlined the operational procedures in its ‘Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the Conduct of 2015 General Elections’.

Question 6: Have the Card Readers been tested ahead of the 2015 general elections?

Answer: The Card Reader units have been broadly subjected to simulation Quality Assurance, Integrity and Functionality tests and INEC has full confidence in their performance for election purposes. The device has also been subjected to Performance and Conformance Test, both locally and in Texas, United States, laboratories by the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Research Centre and found to be of the highest quality grade. Besides all these, and with additional time resulting from the rescheduling of the 2015 general elections, the Commission has directed that Stress Test be conducted on the Card Reader device in mock election scenarios – two states in each of the six geo-political zones – ahead of the new election dates. (Details of this exercise will be unveiled by the Commission next week.)

Question 7: Can the Card Reader fail to function?

Answer: Going by the results of tests already conducted, it is highly unlikely that the Card Reader will fail on Election Day. Still, INEC has drawn up serial intervention plans in the unlikely event of the Card Readers failing.

(i)             Should there be a challenge with battery power for the device, the Commission has procured more than 35,000 back-up batteries that can be rapidly deployed.

(ii)           If the device itself fails in the course of accreditation, the Commission has procured more than 26,000 spares that can be rapidly deployed in replacement within the scheduled accreditation hours of 8a.m. – 1p.m.Whatever time is lost on these scheduled hours in the course of replacement will be added and accreditation extended beyond 1p.m. to compensate for the lost time.

(iii)          In the extremely unlikely and isolated event that a faulty Card Reader can’t be replaced within the scheduled accreditation hours, INEC has come to a firm agreement with political parties that the exercise be repeated the following day rather than revert to manual accreditation.

These procedures, which registered political parties have agreed to, have been written into the ‘Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the Conduct of 2015 General Elections’.

Question 8: What if the Card Reader verifies a voter’s PVC but his/her fingerprints cannot be authenticated?

Answer: The Commission has come to an agreement with registered political parties on what to do: namely that if a voter’s PVC has been read and it is evident that he/she is the legitimate holder of the card, but the fingerprints cannot be authenticated (or he/she doesn’t have fingers), the Presiding Officer of the voting point will complete an incident form and the voter will be accredited to vote. Party Agents and Observers would be there to witness to this.

Question 9: Is it possible to accredit all voters who turn out within the stipulated hours for accreditation using the Card Reader?

Answer: The accreditation of a voter, using the Card Reader, is estimated to last an average of 10 to 20 seconds per voter. Even if we double this time to 20 to 45 seconds for planning purposes, and working on the basis of a maximum of 750 voters per voting point, and using a generous projection of 70% voter turnout (the average being 54% from past elections), which equates to 525 voters, the card reader will need 6.5hours to process all the voters. This is well within the operating time for the elections as well as the battery life of the Card reader.

Question 10: How is the Card Reader programmed?

Answer: To prevent fraudulent use, the Card Rader is configured to work only on Election Days. In addition, the device is configured to specific polling units and cannot be used elsewhere without requiring reconfiguration by authorised INEC personnel.

Question 11: How has the INEC’s Card Reader addressed the problems experienced in other countries in the sub-region?

Answer: The challenge with a few of the Card Reader devices in Ghana, for instance, during the country’s 2012 general elections was the battery power, apparently because the affected devices were not fully charged. It was in learning from this experience that INEC designed the Card Readers to be used in the 2015 elections with 12-hour battery life in active usage, and also procured more than 35,000 units of back-up batteries. The imperative of adequate charging of the Card Readers is underscored during the trainings of election personnel.

The supposed technology failures during Kenya’s general elections in 2013 had nothing to do with card readers, as the country used computer poll books for accreditation. The challenge was rather with the electronic system used in transmitting results, and not card readers.

What role did the Senate (two thirds majority) play in the so-called suspension of the CJN, for so-called misconduct, as required by the Constitution?
It's you that is getting it wrong,he quoted that section of the constitution to show that buhari remove onnoghen illegally n except the NJC chooses to be cowards, onnoghen's removal shouldn't stand for it is said that you can't place something on nothing, due process was never followed because the whole saga was born out of malicious premeditations.
PoliticsRe: PDP Asks INEC To Declare Tambuwal Sokoto Gov-elect by Deepthoughts: 5:40pm On Mar 18, 2019
OddsIsland:
As pressure mounts on electoral umpire Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, urged Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to save its time and resources by declaring Aminu Tambuwal winner of the election held on March 9.

The party, which stated this while reacting to claim by the umpire that it was under pressure to declare the governor winner of the polls, said given the margin of victory recorded on the first ballot, there was no reason not to declare Tambuwal duly elected. Spokesman of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said: “Our position has not changed and we insist that His Excellency, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal should be declared winner of the governorship election in Sokoto State.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal “If we go by the figure of votes collated so far, the governor has satisfied the provisions of the law because he won clearly in almost all the local governments of the states. “What are they waiting for to declare him duly elected? We are a party that has respect for the laws of the land. So, we advise our members and supporters to remain calm because at the end of the day, victory is ours.”

Pressure on INEC Meanwhile, barely a week to the March 23 date for the supplementary governorship election in some states, pressure continues to mount on INEC to declare Governor Aminu Tambuwal the winner of the March 9 guber poll in Sokoto State.

There were indications over the weekend that the tension in the seat of the Caliphate may worsen if the incumbent governor who was enjoying a clear lead in the poll is denied victory.

A top politician from Sokoto who spoke on condition of anonymity, said tension was building up in the state over fears of plans to undemocratically stop Tambuwal for another term in office. Our source alleged that though the governor appears to be the popular choice of his people as shown in the collated result of the guber poll, the power brokers of All Progressives Congress, APC, were bent on taking the state which they consider strategic to the party’s future political plans. Our source said: “The powers that be should declare Tambuwal as the authentic winner of the March 9 governorship election in Sokoto State.

The collated result showed that he won the election by the simple majority, which is what the constitution provides. They should not set the seat of the Caliphate on fire. “Remember that even President Muhammadu Buhari won his election by the same simple majority. He was declared winner, even when elections were yet to be conducted in areas where the exercise could not hold because of one reason or the other. “A common man on the street of Sokoto knows that Tambuwal won the election. There were so many hurdles the APC which controls the centre put before him ahead of the election but he surmounted them all.

So, what they could not get democratically, they want by all means through the back door in collaboration with INEC.” Over the weekend, this newspaper gathered that there were fears in the PDP, of a plan by the ruling party and INEC to repeat what happened in the Osun governorship election where the PDP lost to the APC under controversial circumstances. A video recording between the INEC Admin Secretary in Sokoto and a collation officer which trended over the weekend further escalated fears of interference in the coming supplementary election.

The video which was in Hausa but translated to English, showed an exchange between the INEC Admin Secretary in Sokoto and the collation officer. The exchange between them ran thus: Admin Sec to Collation officer….This is the number of votes scored by one candidate, this is the total secured by the other candidate and this is the difference in votes between them… Collation officer: Collation officer: Yes Admin officer: You must refer to the total number of registered voters in the cancellation areas and compare that with the margin of votes between the leading candidate and the one next to him, do you understand? Collation officer: Yes I do Admin officer: Then you will just announce the votes secured by every candidate but you should not declare the winner, do you understand? Collation officer: Yes Admin officer: You will say the election is inconclusive, and you are leaving it to INEC to decide, do you get it? Collation officer: Yes, I do Admin officer: You will not declare a winner, do you understand Collation officer: …Yes Recall that the INEC declared the March 9 governorship election in Sokoto inconclusive and claimed that the decision was because 75, 403 votes were cancelled, which were higher than 3, 413 margin difference between the PDP candidate and his rival in APC.

The returning officer, Fatima Mukhtar, said the margin of win was lower than the number of rejected votes, hence, the election was declared inconclusive. In the results declared by INEC, Mr Tambuwal was leading his closest rival, Ahmed Aliyu of the APC, with a margin of 3,413 votes. Speaking on the development at a press conference, the governor had observed there was no cause for the election to be declared inconclusive. Though the governor said the INEC was yet to communicate to him the reasons for cancellation of votes in the 136 polling units, he said it was necessary to draw the attention of the electoral umpire to its guidelines for the exercise.

He stated that the issue of margin difference was technical and alien to the Nigerian constitution which stipulates a simple majority and 25 percent of votes cast in two-thirds majority of states of the federation, as basis for determining a winner. “This technical reason of margin differences has not been applied in Osun and Ekiti elections,” Tambuwal said, arguing that since he secured the higher number of votes at the concluded election, he ought to have been declared the winner. He said: “Going by Section 179(2) of the Constitution as amended, there was no clause

I don't understand INEC anymore, the law talked about 'registered voters' meaning those registered but did not vote at all n not those who actually voted but the votes were cancelled I:e rejected votes, this are two different things please, but under Apc one can not be sure of even what you know again.
PoliticsRe: Garba Shehu: Some APC leaders expect Buhari to rig supplementary elections by Deepthoughts: 5:35pm On Mar 18, 2019
fergie001:
Garba Shehu, spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari, says the president will neither interfere with the supplementary polls in five states nor ask the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to change results in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Sunday, Shehu said some APC leaders expected Buhari to abuse his office by usurping the powers of INEC to turn the tables in their favour.

He said INEC is fully in charge of electoral matters in the country, advising party leaders in the affected states to work hard to earn the votes of the people.

Shehu said unlike the past when presidents influence outcome of elections, Buhari would not deviate from upholding the constitution.

He said some members of the ruling party are unhappy with Buhari over the stance but the president would do only what is acceptable by the law.

“The presidency also rejects unfair and ridiculous criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s apparent disinterest in the upcoming elections in some states by party members who wrongfully assume that the President will abuse his power by changing results to favour them” he said.

“Past presidents of Nigeria were known to interfere in inconclusive elections, and that is why party members appear to be upset that the same thing is not happening now.

“President Buhari is a different kind of leader. He swore to defend the Constitution and he will not veer off from that.

“The Constitution of Nigeria gives the president no such powers. It is unfair and ridiculous to criticise President Buhari for not going against the Constitution.

“Party members in states where there will be supplementary elections then need to be reminded that they need to work hard to earn their people’s votes, rather than expect President Buhari to manipulate INEC in their favour.”

He said while APC members were expecting Buhari to interfere, the opposition too had concluded that the president would use INEC to assist his party to victory.

Shehu said Buhari would not play to the wishes of anyone in the supplementary elections, insisting that the APC must work hard to earn votes.

“Interestingly, while members of the ruling APC party were criticising the president for not interfering on their behalf, members of the opposition were condemning the president based on their assumptions that he would definitely interfere, as many in the opposition did while in power,” he said.

“Under President Buhari, INEC had been and will be completely independent throughout the elections, free from any interference.

“President Buhari is a man of conviction, and the manipulation of election results goes against everything he stands for. INEC is completely in charge.”

The aircraft had expected to be presented with much fanfare in a ceremonial debut at the plane manufacturer's plant in Everett, near Seattle, on Wednesday.

But as a mark of respect for those who died in the Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max 8 crash, it was instead unveiled in a low-key event that was only attended by Boeing employees.

PoliticsRe: Innocent People Are Being Killed Because We Won Election, Taraba Govt Cries Out by Deepthoughts: 10:54am On Mar 16, 2019
Mrakeli:
The Taraba State government yesterday cried out that innocent people were being killed since the day Governor Darius Ishaku was declared winner of the governorship election in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Simon Dogari, who briefed reporters on the incidents trailing the outcome of the election, said the attacks were being masterminded by the opposition parties who lost at the polls.

He said the attacks were intended to give the impression that the governorship election in the state was not credible.

Dogari said: “There have been several cases of attacks on innocent and defenceless people in Jalingo by miscreants hired and armed by those who lost the elections.

“Their intention is to create tension and anarchy in the state such that the impression would be created that the elections were not credible.

“The state government is happy that this motive has not been achieved. We give the credit to God and to all the good people of Taraba State who have ignored the call to arms and have in various ways helped to defuse tension rather than yield to the temptation to react violently.

“The elections were generally free, fair and peaceful. There were no major incidents, as voting took place in all the centres.
“It is also instructive that one of the major contestants in the gubernatorial election, Senator Aisha Alhassan, also rated the election as free, fair and credible, even though she lost.

“Yet, the main opposition group has embarked on a mission of organising armed youths to confront people who came out in their numbers to celebrate the PDP victory.

“The most unfortunate and dangerous dimension to this campaign was the religious colour their group tried to assign to the crisis.

“It is disheartening that a man who is aspiring to a high position of leadership of this state would resort to religious bigotry to achieve his ambition.

“Again, we thank God and the larger section of the populace for refusing to cooperate with him to cause more tension and damage to lives and properties.”

He said that Governor Darius Ishaku “deeply appreciates the contributions of all the good people of the state in achieving peace and wishes to thank everybody, including Christian and Muslim leaders, who have been part of the peace building process.”

The state government said it would ensure that all law abiding people are protected in order to go about their lawful activities without molestation.

“Governor Ishaku also wishes to remind all of you that peace is the bedrock on which every positive human endeavour can thrive, hence his peace mantra: Give me peace and I will give you development.

“We urge you to refuse to be used as political thugs, to shun violence and all forms of drug abuse and to support the government to build that future you deserve.”

PoliticsRe: How I Was Tortured, Asked To Implicate Saraki – Offa Robbery Suspect by Deepthoughts: 7:09am On Mar 16, 2019
awelekiti:
The trial within trial of the five suspects involved in the Offa bank robbery in April 2018 continued on Friday at the State High Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

During their arraignment before Justice Halimah Salman, the suspects told the court how their confessional statements were obtained by the police.

The first suspect, Ayoade Akinnibosun, in his testimony, told the trial judge that he gave his statement under duress and not voluntarily.

He explained that he was tortured and shot in two legs, alleging that the police asked him to implicate the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, but he refused.

Akinnibosun claimed that five men were shot dead in his presence and that of other suspects, in order to force them to do the bidding of the police.

He alleged that he was forced to sleep on the spot where the men were killed, adding that his hands and legs were tied for days.

The suspect also told the trial judge that six hefty stones were placed on his back and denied food for nearly one week while he was being tortured.

He said they were kept inside the generator room at Police Headquarters Abuja while a dismissed police officer, identified as Michael Adiukwu, was brought to identify them if they were part of the robbery gang.

According to Akinnibosun, the man denied knowing them and was shot dead on the spot.

Afterwards, he said he was shown an already written statement which he was asked to sign and agreed to do so for fear of being killed.

The suspect insisted that whatever he said during the parade of the press conference was written for him to memorise and confess to the public.

He claimed that the police warned him not to implicate them that the statement was made under duress.

Akinnibosun told the trial judge that he was given a four-page statement to sign but he could not because his fingers were not functioning due to torture.

He said one of his fingers was placed on the documents for thumb printing and his request to read and go through the statement was turned down.

After giving his testimony, the suspect was cross-examined by the prosecution counsel.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel, Mathias Emeribe, asked for further medical checkup to determine if the wounds Akinnibosun sustained were truly from gunshots.

Justice Salman, however, turned down the request until proper trial.

The second accused, Ibikunle Ogunleye, was thereafter called to the dock and he corroborated the first accused, Akinnibosun’s testimony of how he was tortured and how Michael Adiukwu was killed.

In his testimony, the third accused person Abraham Adeola also repeated the same process of how they were tortured both at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) office in Ilorin and Abuja.
