I am asking this question due to the extravagant lifestyle most of them portray after going there even after a short while. So my dear nairalanders i need your opinions to avoid making mistakes.
This same thought once came up in our discussion, I'm sorry to say this but a guy from the East with lot of info, said some not all of those guys carries out robbery n other crimes here in Nigeria n after successful hits sneak out to Malaysia to cool off only to resurface back after some months to claim striking gold in Malaysia,I think there is some sense to this angle.
TravelRe: What Do Nigerians In Malaysia Do For A Living? by Deepthoughts: 1:11pm On Apr 22, 2019
Naijaguy123:
Most Nigerian men I heard are into internet fraud and drugs and the women are into prostitution. A woman can earn up to $5000 dollars a month doing prostitution and that’s the worst you can earn. But most women prostitute need a p1mp too and the guys make money from this.
Malaysia is a big tourist country and tourist love cheap sex and lots of drugs . A girl as beautiful as Agbani darego will cost you 100/200 pound per hour in UK as an escort, same girl 100 percent will cost you $100/200 whole night 8 hours in Malaysia.(prostitution is big)
So some unlucky ones get scammed by Nigerian too. With credit card fraud on the high. You can use your card in a store right now and in 10 minutes Nigerians are using it hundreds of miles away because they just cloned your credit card with the help of the cashier they corrupted. In Nigeria we don’t use our credit cards online for shopping as such, in country like Malaysia it’s common but most are fraudulent stolen cards by Nigerian. Also there is love scam, Nigerian will steal someone’s identity and use it to scam Malaysian women of money . The woman is thinking she’s talking to an American who live in Japan not knowing she’s talking to John from Aba or Ayo from Ibadan who are based in Malaysia.

Also money wire fraud. It’s very very hard to get your stay/papers in USA or Europe,( fake marriage in Uk up to 10,000 pounds, visa fees 2,000, renewal after 2,3 to 5 years about 3,000 more for indefinite stay then sure banker fake wife want more money about 5,000 pounds after few years , you spent more than 20,000 pounds to get a stay and over 10 years plus of illegal stay) without a stay you can’t open bank accounts, without bank accounts or valid ID the stolen yahoo money goes no where. It will just be sitting there and you need to move it. So when Nigerians in USA or Europe get the paper they don’t want to mess with it, if anyone suggest a fraud you get scared cos you know this might take you to prison then deportation back to naija but on the other hands papers are very very easy in Malaysia. You can enter on a social visa then turn it to student visa then turn it to a stay . So that encourage the one interested in fraud to attempt it as they didn’t suffer a lot to get the papers.

Also the Arab factors. When a white guy is duped or scammed am telling you they will report to the police and that crime is on police database. A white guy can report you to the police for selling him fake cocaine and he might not be prosecuted but an Arab will simply take it as bad business and he’s ashamed of reporting it.

In a country like Malaysia with many Arab tourist, Arabs don’t report crimes and that means police can’t do nothing as nothing got reported. When crimes get reported, there is more heat on the criminals as they know someone is out there trailing them. So in Malaysia, bad guys get multiple chances before they are caught compare with no chances in Europe or USA.

I’ve been abroad a few times and I saw the good but mostly worst of Nigerian.
Oh boy you go school.

The tiv people would have to wake from their slumber, they have abandoned their culture in the name of religion without even been very religious, they use to be known as warriors but now they have become disunited, disorganized n very weak this has created the opportunity their adversaries are taking advantage of,the jukuns n fulanis who are fighting the tiv people does so employing both the white n black means, the tiv will have to find ways of matching them or be prepared to become conquered people with the pains n shame, the present Tor tiv showed himself to be the wrong person for the job the moment he refused to be sworn by tradition n opted for religion, tradition is quite different from religion,if he abhors tradition then he shouldn't have been allowed to mount the throne, it's his Paramount responsibility to lead, unite n organized the tiv people in n by whatever means but he is failing like his predecessor.the fight against the tiv especially by the fulanis is sponsored n supported from the very top of the core Muslim north, tiv people would be ignoring this at their own peril,as for the jukuns, ordinarily they shouldn't be fighting with tiv,the absence of a visionary leadership especially on the tiv side is responsible for it,I was in Taraba from 1993-2003 n witnessed two crisis so I'm speaking from experience,it so much a pity but I'm very certain the tiv people can over come their challenge if they think deeply n get themselves organized.

Fuel will continue to sell for N145 per litre –NNPC
punchng.com Apr 18, 2019 3:25 AM

Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru
Everest Amaefule, Abuja

Despite increased landing cost of petroleum products, Premium Motor Spirit will continue to sell at N145 per litre, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has said.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday, NNPC Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, said that the corporation would continue to bear the cost of under-recovery of petrol through other sources.

Ughamadu said, “The Federal Government has made it clear; petrol will continue to sell at N145 per litre. NNPC is not operating subsidy. What we have done is under-recovery of which we make up from other sources.

“Yes, the under-recovery will continue. The corporation plays many roles in the country. We are an importer of the last resort where others refuse to import.

“We equally operate in a social regime to make sure that the system gets wet with products because if the corporation is not doing that as part of its responsibilities, you can imagine what the system will look like.”

Meanwhile, the NNPC on Wednesday denied that it had spent $22bn on the Brass LNG project.

In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja, Ughamadu said that the corporation had spent $1.2bn on the project.

Ughamadu said that the corporation made the clarification at the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the expenditure.

The statement quoted the General Manager, New LNG Venture of the NNPC, Ahmed Dikko, as telling the committee that the $1.2bn was about the total money spent so far by the various shareholders to get the project to its current stage.

Dikko said, “This sum included the cost of acquiring project land, which covers approximately 606 hectares, cost of early works contract, Front End Engineering Design, Pre-FEED Concept Evaluation Study, Project Environmental Impact Assessment comprising both onshore and offshore studies, dredging, EIA activities and ambient noise survey, displacement and settlement action plan, cultural site heritage study, staff and administration project cost from inception, and sustainable development cost, among others.”

Apc n deciet, thinking they can use sweet tongue to confuse everyone, what is subsidy or under recovery?,are they not meant to serve the same purpose or is it the change in name that's so much of an achievement?,the government is now paying more for the so call under recovery than the pdp were paying for subsidy and there is nothing to prove that the current under recovery regime itself is not ridden with corruption so what?, even the daily consumption amount of fuel which form the basis for the payment of the under recovery itself is dubious, you can't fool everyone all the time except the zombies.

Nigeria has become the first to book the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup ticket, after defeating Angola 1-0 in a match played in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.Olakunle Olusegun's goal through a penalty kick in the 21st minute, made Nigeria the first to book the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup ticket to Brazil. Though the Golden Eaglets were guilty of profligacy and the technical crew certainly has much to do still, but they proved to be masters of use of space and close control.

The win gave the Eaglets a return to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, after missing out of the last edition staged in India two years ago. Nigeria will certainly finish at the head of Group A if they avoid defeat against Uganda at the same venue on Saturday.

Yes we all wish them success but let's not be too hasty their qualification is not definite yet,it they lost to Uganda (who beat Tanzania by 3-0 ) and Angola succeed in also beating the helpless Tanzanians by 3-0 too then the eaglets can be booted out,so we need to be careful n I hope the team themselves are very cautious too.good luck to them.
PoliticsRe: NJC Meets, May Extend Muhammad’s Tenure As Acting CJN by Deepthoughts: 10:34am On Apr 18, 2019
Pamatips:
The National Judicial Council on Wednesday started a two-day meeting where issues of appointment into the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria are among top items on the agenda, The PUNCH has learnt.

Our correspondent learnt that the NJC might at the end of its meeting on Thursday (today) recommend to President Buhari the extension of Justice Tanko Muhammad’s tenure as the acting CJN, pending when the process of making a substantive appointment for the topmost judicial office would be completed.

By virtue of section 231(4) of the Nigerian 1999 Constitution, Justice Muhammad’s three-month tenure as the acting CJN ends on April 25, and he cannot be re-appointed unilaterally by the President without the NJC’s recommendation.

With the reported resignation of the suspended CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, the need to extend Muhammad’s acting tenure was said to be urgent.

“The NJC will likely recommend the extension of the acting CJN’s tenure to avert a vacuum in the office because the process of making the substantive appointment of a CJN cannot be completed in about a week’s time when the tenure of the acting CJN, Justice Muhammad, will elapse,” a source familiar with the NJC’s meeting said.

Officials of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, the body with constitutional powers of advising the NJC on the appointment of the CJN, told our correspondent on Wednesday that the process of appointing the substantive person for the topmost judicial position had yet to start at the commission’s end.

Paragraph 13 of Part I of the Third Schedule of the Constitution provides that “the Commission shall have power to – (a) advise the National Judicial Council in nominating persons for appointment, as respects appointments to the office of –

“(i) the Chief Justice of Nigeria;” among other judges and heads of other federal courts.

FSJC officials explained to our correspondent that although the process of appointing the CJN would start at the commission, the NJC would need to officially inform the commission that the office of the CJN was vacant.

“The meeting of the NJC today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) is expected to address the issue and send the necessary notice to the FJSC,” another source said.

The NJC’s ongoing meeting would be the first routine meeting of the council after a series of its emergency meetings which followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of Justice Onnoghen as the CJN and the immediate swearing-in of Justice Muhammad to replace him in acting capacity, on January 25.

The NJC had at one of its recent emergency meetings set up a panel to investigate various allegations of misconduct levelled against Onnoghen and Muhammad.

On April 3, the council reviewed the report of its five-man investigative panel and sent its recommendations which have not been made public to Buhari.

Barely 24 hours after, Onnoghen, who is believed to have been handed a negative verdict in the NJC’s recommendations, reportedly resigned through a letter he submitted to Buhari.

Reports said Muhammad was cleared by the NJC as he was found not to have done any wrong by submitting himself to being sworn in by Buhari as acting CJN without NJC’s input.

In a report by The PUNCH, Muhammad had in his response to a query by the NJC, claimed that President Buhari did not need the permission of the council to appoint him as the acting CJN.

A group, Centre for Justice and Peace Initiative, had petitioned the NJC, asking the council to remove Muhammad as a Justice of the Supreme Court for allowing himself to be sworn in by the President without recourse to the NJC.

Citing section 231(4) of the Constitution, however, Muhammad had said it would only be required for the President to act based on NJC’s recommendation only in the case of re-appointment in acting capacity or appointment of a substantive CJN.

He stated, “In my respectful view, the National Judicial Council has no role to play in the appointment of an acting Chief Justice of Nigeria in the first instance, that is to say on first appointment.

“The council comes in where the appointment as the acting CJN is to be renewed or extended. I humbly refer to Section 231(4) of the 1999 Constitution.”

The NJC should stop pretending as if they have any courage to act independently, it's clear they have been cowed, but they shall only have themselves to blame tomorrow.

PoliticsRe: Petrol Landing Cost Now N180 Per Litre, Says Kachikwu by Deepthoughts: 4:01pm On Apr 17, 2019
ORACLE1975:
The landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, is N35 higher than the pump price of N145 per litre, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said on Tuesday.
Kachikwu said the rise in global crude oil prices after the 2016 hike in petrol price brought back subsidy.
Recalling the experience of 2016, when the government increased petrol price from N86.5 to N145 after months of severe scarcity, he described fuel subsidy as an emotive issue.

“You have very positive argument that says, ‘Why is this happening; let’s get it out.’ Once you do it, the streets get flooded by protesters. You have five or six or 10 days of no activity in the country. So, any attempt to remove the subsidy must be very well-managed,” the minister said on the NTA Good Morning Nigeria programme, monitored by our correspondent.

He noted that in 2016, the government wrote to the Nigeria Labour Congress and all the trade unions, adding that meetings were held with the security apparatus.
Kachikwu said, “Even when there was a consensus on how we were going to do it, we still had an issue at the very tail end of the moment; NUPENG and PENGASSAN supported but, of course, the other members of the trade unions pulled out.

“Eventually, thankfully, Nigerians saw through what we were trying to do and let it happen. And thank God that happened at the time because when you look at the gap today, the landing cost is about N180 per litre and sale price is N145. Imagine if it (pump price) was N90-something; we will literally be a bankrupt country.”
The minister added, “The point I am making is that anything you are going to do on subsidy requires a very efficient management of information – getting everybody who are stakeholders to tie into it.

“Should we deal with the removal of subsidy? I was gung-ho when I assumed this position that there was no way I was going to tolerate a subsidy regime at the time in 2015 of about N1.2tn-N1.3tn. There was just no way; we didn’t have the capacity to continue to pay.”
“So, I convinced the President that this needed to happen; thankfully, he listened, he agreed and we did. Now, we then had over-recovery period for quite a while and then we went into this upswing in prices that has now taken us again into under-recovery.”
The minister noted that the government had not paid marketers all the outstanding subsidy arrears. He said, “I think, first and foremost, we need to find a way of fixing refineries quickly, whether it is government-funded or whatever – my preference is always private sector funding.

“I think the labour union has never really said they would not be supportive of an attempt to take away this subsidy element; the union has always said, ‘If you are doing it, show me what you [will] do with those new receipts of income. Two, what do you do with the refineries?’ Therefore, we need to address those to even get their buy-in.“Secondly, we need to segregate between those who need subsidy and those who don’t; you will find that 80 per cent or more of those who get subsidy today do not need it. There is nothing necessarily bad with some element of subsidy if it is well-managed and is very little, and if the private sector can take it away completely; that is fantastic. That is the most ideal situation.”
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, which has been the sole importer of petrol into the country for about two years after private oil marketers withdrew from the importation of the product, bears the burden of subsidising the product.
As of March 20, 2018, when the international benchmark price for oil (Brent) was around $66 per barrel, the expected open market price of petrol, according to data obtained from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, was around N189 per litre. The agency has not released any data since then.
The Group Managing Director, NNPC, on December 23, 2017, said the Federal Government had been resisting intense pressure to increase the pump price of petrol, noting that the landing cost of the commodity was N171.4 per litre as of December 22, 2017 when oil price was around $64 per barrel.

https://punchng.com/petrol-landing-cost-now-n180-per-litre-says-kachikwu/
Hypocritical Apc with quick smooth tongue, buhari has always been shouting on the roof too at various fora that pdp earn so much from oil but looted it,but now they always so quick to give excuses,so what was the landing cost of fuel when the price of crude was above $100/barrel n how much was the amount of subsidy paid per litre to keep the price at #87?, Buhari n his goons will not agree there an unbearable pressure the pdp administration was dealing with but will expect everyone to be a zombie n accept their lies without question.bunch of decietful hypocrites.

Her arrest took place on the premises of the Lagos High Court, Lagos, Ikeja shortly after Justice Hakeem Oshodi struck out the corruption charges made against her by the EFCC.

As she attempted to leave the courtroom, EFCC officials moved to surround the dismissed judge.

Upon sighting them, the judge made a hasty retreat and went back upstairs into Justice Oshodi’s courtroom to seek the protection of the court from the EFCC officials.

Justice Oshodi, when notified about the development, said there was nothing he could do, as “the file had been closed.”

Her co-defendant, Mr. Godwin Obla, SAN, was however allowed to leave the court premises.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia was standing trial before the court on charges bordering on unlawful enrichment, taking property by a public officer, corruption, forgery and giving false information to an official of the EFCC, while Mr. Obla was Charged with bribing her with N5m.

They had both pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Before her arrest, the trial judge, Justice Oshodi, in a ruling, had struck out the 31 counts filed by the EFCC against Ofili-Ajumogobia and Mr. Obla on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the suit.

The judge ruled that, based on the judicial precedent set by the case of Justice Nganjiwa Vs FRN, the EFCC had “jumped the gun” in filing the first amended charge.

Justice Oshodi also held that the anti-graft commission had not followed the procedures set by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for disciplining erring judicial officers.

PoliticsRe: SARS Killings: No More Use Of Gun During Operations – Police IG by Deepthoughts: 11:20am On Apr 16, 2019
IamHeWrites:
The Nigerian Police says its men will no longer be allowed to carry firearms during operations.

Instead, officers of the Police Force will now make use of electro-muscular disruption technology known as teaser in place of firearms.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu disclosed this while addressing men and women of the Nigerian Police Force at the Police College parade ground, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.

Adamu said the use of the teaser otherwise known as rubber bullet will be used by the routine patrols, arrest duties and other low-risk operations “as strategic approach towards reducing incidents of fatalities associated with misappropriation of lethal weapons by the Police as first line of response to any threat.”

He was reacting to the spate of extra judicial killings by some policemen in recent weeks.

IGBERE TV recalls that a 20-year-old Ms. Joy Ifeanyi was shot dead by men of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) on Saturday in Lagos. This comes less than two weeks after 36-year-old Kolade Johnson was murdered in cold blood by SARS operatives at a football viewing centre in Lagos.

According to the IGP, between January to April, 2019 “Lagos State has recorded four incidents of misuse of firearms which have resulted in extrajudicial killings of young citizens of this country and injury to others.”

“Its more worrisome that two of these incidents occurred within the last two weeks. Aside negating our professional calling, extrajudicial acts of any description or level by any police personnel is an unacceptable anomaly that creates distrust and disdain between the citizens and the police and widens the trust gap between them.

“In perfecting these initiatives, we shall be engaging with Human Rights Bodies, International Agencies Development partners and Civil Society Organisations.

“This is with a view to evolving a united front towards addressing these challenges on a sustainable basis and within the context of best international practices.”

Adamu further stated the Force will no longer tolerate the senseless killings carried out by some of its officers around the country.

“I must emphasise that enough is enough. The nation and indeed the Police under the current leadership can no longer tolerate abuses associated with the Police either in Lagos or any other part of the country.

“I have already ordered that a signal be circulated to all Police Commands and Formations warning of dire consequences against any personnel that by their incorrigible acts deviates from accepted Police culture and values.”

While warning the officers, Adamu added: “The choice now is for each officer to either resolve to perform his or her duties within extant rules, laws and policies or be prepared to be shown the way out of the system.

“Our visit to Lagos is also designed to condone with the families of the victims of the recent incidents of misuse of firearms or other forms of abuse of power by identified police personnel in the State and to share in their grief.

“It is also to reassure citizens that as an institution, the Nigeria Police will not condone any form of abuse of power, acts resulting in misuse of firearms, overzealous and sundry unprofessional conducts by members of the police regardless of his rank and position.”

Considering the nature of the crimes in our society n the operational nature of tasers,I doubt the efficacy of the taser in Nigeria rather the police authority should consider the use of rubber bullets when dealing with suspected persons who are not armed with lethal weapons.

Parents of the abducted Chibok girls who are still in captivity, have accused the APC government of using their daughters to clinch power but not to free them. Mr Ayuba Alamson who is the spokesperson of parents of the abducted girls, said the APC benefitted from their travails, but had not done enough to dry their tears.

Ayuba who stated that it was a well known fact that the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the schoolgirls on April 14, 2014 from their school in Chibok Secondary School was the major reason many Nigerians opted for change and chose the APC over the Peoples Democratic Party, attributed the inability to rescue the girls at the early stage of their abduction to the unserious attitude of the then administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who according to him never believed the kidnap story until two weeks after the girls’ abduction.

The spokesperson of parents of the Chibok girls who accused the APC of using their daughters to clinch power but not to free them, also slammed the the APC leadership in Borno State who according to them failed to act promptly to the security alert in the area before the abduction.

“APC has used the abduction of our girls to earn power in an easy way in 2015 but is yet to justify the promises they made while seeking power then. I also supported the efforts of those parents in voting for the APC, but till today, the efforts are in vain. Our girls were in the hands of the APC government at the state level, while the PDP was ruling at the federal level" Alanson said.

PoliticsRe: Assets Declaration Charge: I Didn’t Confess To Any Crime, Says Onnoghen by Deepthoughts: 9:48am On Apr 16, 2019
Pamatips:
Ex-CJN seeks acquittal, dismissal of charges LG’s lawyers clash, as CCT slates Thursday for judgment

Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, yesterday, berated the Federal Government for alleging that he confessed to the non-declaration of assets charge that resulted to his removal from office by President Muhammadu Buhari. Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, Onnoghen, who voluntarily resigned his position as the CJN on April 4, maintained that contrary to Federal Government’s allegation, he did not at any time, admit that he committed any crime to warrant his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, in Abuja. “This case is about alleged non-declaration of assets or failure to make a declaration. Counts two to six of the charge complained of false declarations.

We submit that where a complainant alleged false declaration, it presupposes that there was a declaration”, Onnoghen’s lawyer, Mr. Okon Efut, SAN, said while adopting the defendant’s final address with respect to the charge. He urged the tribunal to dismiss the charge in its entirety, contending that FG failed to prove the elements of the crime beyond reasonable doubt as required by law. On the issue of Exhibit C which was the statement, the former CJN made before the CCB, Efut said it was grossly incorrect for the prosecution to equate forgetfulness with the admittance of crime. “This submission is grossly incorrect in law. When he said he forgot, that did not amount to a confession. He did not confess to the charge. The defendant cannot be convicted for an offence that is unknown to the law, for which there is no prescribed punishment. “The allegation here is that he failed or falsely omitted to declare assets. But our position is that there is no such offence that is known to the law in Nigeria. Until the law is well defined, an accused cannot be punished for an unknown offence.

“There is evidence that the defendant substantially declared all his assets and it is not true that he did not declare his assets since 2005 until 2016. In fact, this argument even defeats their case because they said that he falsely declared. What we are saying is that the prosecution has woefully failed to prove its case,” the defence lawyer insisted. More so, Onnoghen argued that section 15 of the CCB and Tribunal Act, is in conflict with Paragraph 11 of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution. He argued that the section upon which FG hinged the charge against him, was unconstitutional and ought to be declared null and void. Consequently, the defendant prayed the tribunal to discharge and acquit him of all the allegations against him. However, Federal Government, through its lawyer, Mr Aliyu Umar, SAN, asked the CCT to convict and impose maximum punishment on the former CJN, contending that it successfully established that he acted in breach of the code of conduct for public officers in the country. In its written address, Federal Government further urged the tribunal to hold that the prosecution proved its case against the defendant, beyond every reasonable doubt. “We urge this tribunal to rely on hard facts before it and convict the defendant accordingly,” Federal Government stated. It further reinforced its position that the ex-CJN admitted that he forgot to declare his ownership of various bank accounts that were operational as at the time he declared his assets in 2016. “Whether or not forgetfulness is an offence, is for your Lordships to determine,” FG added.

Moreover, FG argued that it was not in Onnoghen’s position to determine whether or not the charge against him was proved beyond a reasonable doubt, saying “The defendant cannot place a burden that the Constitution has not placed on the prosecution.” FG’s lawyers’ clash Meanwhile, there was sharp disagreement in FG’s camp immediately the CCT commenced its proceeding, yesterday, as two senior lawyers in the prosecution team, struggled for the microphone to address the panel. Shortly after FG’s lead counsel, Mr Umar, SAN, announced his appearance, a member of his team, Prof. Zainab Duke, attempted to take over the microphone to address the Mr Danladi Umar-led three-man tribunal. With a paper in her hand, Prof. Duke tried to use the microphone but Umar, SAN, quickly grabbed it and shouted on her to sit down. “There cannot be two leading counsel in this matter. Sit down! You cannot speak,” Umar noted. Meantime, Prof. Duke, who struggled to regain her position after she sank to her seat in the middle of a struggle for the microphone with Umar, did not give up, as she kept shouting, “My lord, I need your protection.” Intervening, the CCT Chairman, Mr Umar, urged both parties to calm down, after which he foreclosed Prof. Duke from addressing the tribunal on behalf of the prosecution. “Only one of you can speak for the team. Whatever you have to say to us, I suggest that you inform the lead counsel,” the CCT Chairman stated. CCT fixes Thursday for judgment Meanwhile, the tribunal fixed Thursday to deliver judgment on the charge against Onnoghen.

The tribunal said it would also on that day, deliver a ruling on two applications the erstwhile CJN filed to challenge the competence of the criminal proceeding the government initiated against him. The application was accordingly granted by the tribunal which ordered her exit, even as the former CJN watched the drama from his vantage position in the dock. Nevertheless, speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, Prof Duke said she only wanted to draw the attention of the tribunal to the similarity between Onnoghen’s trial and a case she said took place in England over 300 years ago. Meanwhile, the tribunal fixed Thursday to deliver judgment on the charge against Onnoghen. The tribunal said it would also on that day, deliver a ruling on two applications the erstwhile CJN filed to challenge the competence of the criminal proceeding the government initiated against him.

FG had in the charge marked CCT/ABJ/01/19, alleged that Onnoghen’s failure to properly declare his assets, was in violation of section 15(2) of Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. However, in opposition to his trial, Justice Onnoghen, queried the validity of the charge against him, stressing that FG violated established judicial precedents by not allowing the National Judicial Council, NJC, to firstly investigate the allegation against him, before it rushed the matter to the CCT. He argued that failure to channel the petition against him, as well as the outcome of the investigation that was purportedly conducted on assets declaration forms he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to the NJC, rendered the charge invalid. Justice Onnoghen drew the attention of the tribunal to its judgment that quashed a similar charge against another Justice of the Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta, on the ground that the NJC ought to have been allowed to look into the matter before the case was filed. He stressed that the two judgments were yet to be set aside by the Supreme Court.

Aside from challenging powers of the tribunal to try him, Onnoghen, said he was afraid that he would not be accorded fair hearing by the tribunal which he described as an appendage of the Presidency. He insisted that he was entitled to a fair hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, under section 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. The defendant argued that the CCB which recommended his trial, the Attorney General of the Federation who is prosecuting him, and the tribunal itself, are all answerable to the Executive Arm of the government.

He equally asked the CCT chairman to disqualify himself from the matter considering that he equally has a criminal allegation pending against him. The tribunal had in a ruling on March 11, relied on section 396(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, and Paragraph 5(5) of its Practice Direction, held that it would not consider the merit of Onnoghen’s objection to the charge, till conclusion of the trial. While FG closed its case against the ex-CJN after it produced three witnesses to testify before the tribunal, the Defendant who initially proposed to also call three witnesses to defend the charge, announced his decision to close his defence after his driver testified that he was present when the disputed asset declaration forms were submitted at CCB’s head office in Abuja.

EducationRe: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by Deepthoughts: 11:04am On Apr 14, 2019
Dothraki:
Engineering undergraduates study old theories from Way past generation, that is of little relevance to modern engineering. The university system teach so many calculation, and almost nothing on how to apply these mathematics to solve real life problems.

Many of theories learned aren't useless jargon, since we arent taught how to praticalise most of those knowledge, 99.99% of all engineering graduate would have forgotten what they learned by the time they graduate.
We only remember what is useful to us, what help us get through, or things we do constantly. Everything else, our brain trashes it.

Its quiet disturbing Most of the engineering student only read to pass. Which makes one question, are we in school only to pass some paper? If so, modern technology would not have existed at all.
Our primary purpose of studying engineering is to apply scientific discoveries to solve practical problems in the society. But unfortunately the system only made us to study only for grade.
Without practicing what we learn our brain will eventually discard everything as useless

An average engineering graduate does not remember 90% of what he learned in five years, I tried to go through some of my jottings from 300l, i was suprised because it all seem strange to me.. i couldn't remember a thing from the calculations l did with my own hand. A friend of my who have have a very much good grade have the same experience.

Apart from the abstractions of studying engineering in nigeria, most of the curriculum is old, we spent so much time studying theories that should be thought as a mere history. No wonder there havent been any groundbreaking engineering achievement from Nigerian universities

Majority of the engineering jobs that involve applying engineering maneuver will be given to foreigners. Innoson motor employs foreigners to do All of its engineering design, our Nigerian graduate work as if they are
mere technician. Engineering graduate will never apply most of the theories they learn at school. lot of our graduate who are lucky to find job in engineering companies work as a maintenance engineer. Whenever they need new designs or innovation, they hire foreigners to do the job, this is quite sad in my opinion. They have made mockery of 5 years of lifes. Quite sad
It's up to engineers like you to prove it is not a scam by showing your skills n competence when call upon, while working as a labourer with CCECC during the construction of the national stadium Abuja n games village,I witnessed with shame n embarrassments a Chinese describing an officially driven Nigerian engineer as a mere "book engineer" because of incompetence,a technical plan he could not accurately interprets in over an hour thereby causing delays took the Chinese expartriate less than 15 min to sort out!,the engineer became the butt of mocking jokes amongst the labourers.
PoliticsRe: FACT CHECK: Did Atiku Hire US Lobbyists To Get Him Recognised As President? by Deepthoughts: 9:19am On Apr 12, 2019
deji17:
FACT CHECK: Did Atiku hire US lobbyists to get him recognised as president or was the story fabricated?

By 'Kunle ADEBAJO On Apr 11, 2019

ON Tuesday, the Centre for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit research group based in Washington DC, reported that presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is lobbying the United States to recognise him as Nigeria’s “authentic president”.

Basing its report on FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) filings, the Centre said Bruce Fein and his firm Fein & DelValle PLLC registered as foreign agents on Abubakar’s behalf to provide legal, consultancy, and public advocacy services over a 90-day period for $30,000.

“In the contract, Fein’s firm is explicit in promising to ‘obtain official recognition that you are the authentic President of Nigeria based on an accurate counting of legal ballots.’ The goal of the effort is straightforwardly described as ‘to convince the United States that your presidency would open a fresh and new chapter in Nigerian politics,'” it stated.

The following day, the Centre’s findings were shared by various local news agencies, including TheCable and Sahara Reporters.

Atiku’s swift dismissal
Reacting on Wednesday, Atiku through his spokesman, Paul Ibe, denied the reports and described them as “total fabrication” and “fake news” by the All Progressives Congress, which it alleged to have lying as its “only bragging rights of competence.”

“Since Atiku resisted pressure not to go to court, the APC has been behaving like a cat on hot bricks because the outcome of the 2019 elections has exposed and shattered the facade of their dubious integrity,” Ibe said in the statement. “The APC are behaving nervously like a thief living under the fear of being exposed and shamed; they are now using fake news against Atiku instead of focusing on defending themselves in the court.”

He added: “For a party that has broken the worst record in election rigging, the APC doesn’t have any iota of integrity to be taken seriously by anybody. Atiku’s court case has become their biggest burden because it exposes their integrity as a sham, and instead of defending their stolen mandate in court, they are now using fake news to divert public attention from the historic electoral heist they have committed against Nigerians.

“No amount of diversionary propaganda and fake news campaign by APC will stop Atiku Abubakar from continuing the court action he started to reclaim the stolen mandate.”

Our findings
The United States, in 1938, passed a law known as the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). FARA requires agents representing foreign principals in a “political or quasi-political capacity” to disclose the nature and details of their contract with the other party.

Some of Atiku Abubakar’s contracts with US organisations. Source: fara.gov
All disclosures made are uploaded onto an online database by the US Department of Justice and made accessible to the public. On April 2, Fein & DelValle PLLC, Washington DC-based law firm, registered an active contract it has with “Atiku Abubakar and the People’s Democratic Party of Nigeria”, with registration number 6654.

In the part of the registration form requiring the nature and method of executing the agreement, Fein & DelValle stated that it will be providing “legal, consultancy and public advocacy services to encourage Congress and the President to forebear from final declaration and recognition of a winner of Nigeria’s February 23, 2019 presidential ejection until outstanding legal challenges to the initial Government of Nigeria assertion that incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari was the victor are impartially and independently resolved by the Supreme Court of Nigeria without political or military influence, intimidation, or manipulation; and, engage in public advocacy to applaud all candidates in the presidential election who are supporting and following the rule of law in resolving the outstanding electoral disputes.”

The law firm, according to the agreement, is expected to consult with Congress members towards passing House and Senate resolutions to restrain from a final recognition of a winner pending a fair determination of the legal issues, draft articles and op-eds “to spotlight the issues in Nigeria post-2019 presidential election and to promote the rule of law and due process in resolving electoral disputes in Nigeria”, and then “make television and other media appearances to engage in public advocacy discussions of these issues”.

It also attached a letter written to Atiku on March 20, where it said the terms of the contract include its representation of the PDP candidate “in the United States and in international forums to obtain official recognition that you are the authentic President of Nigeria based on an accurate counting of legal ballots cast on February 23, 2019.”

Fein & DelVille agreed to help Atiku secure recognition as the authentic President of Nigeria.
Asides this agreement, The ICIR also discovered an earlier contract between Atiku and John Barnett registered in February where the presidential candidate offered to pay the lobbyist $150,000 to facilitate a trip to Washington DC, the US capital.

Our verdict
Atiku Abubakar’s claim that the report about his contract with the US firm is a “total fabrication” is false.

Information on the US Justice Department’s FARA portal establish that such contract exists, where Atiku is seeking to be acknowledged abroad as “the authentic President of Nigeria” based on PDP’s grounds for challenging the declared results.

We brought our findings to the attention of Ibe on Thursday but the call was abruptly ended and another call placed to him immediately after was not answered. A text seeking to confirm whether the PDP has seen documents from the US government contradicting its press statement has also not been replied.

5Ebiscoo:
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it will resume the distribution of 11,228,582 uncollected permanent voter cards (PVCs) this month.

Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, made this known during an interview with newsmen.

He also noted that all the uncollected PVCs were still locked up at the Central Bank of Nigeria as promised by the Commission until after the elections.

“All the uncollected PVCs are still locked up because we promised to resume after the elections and, so far, we have concluded some of the elections. The last bit of elections will be done in Rivers State this weekend.

“Immediately after we are sure we have concluded some of these elections, the collection of PVCs will resume. So, we will soon resume distribution of PVCs, but they are still with the central bank.

“The continuous voter registration and collection of PVCs are done at the local government level. So, what the commission will do is just to give an indication on when collection can resume, but we have not given that indication yet. We are still busy with elections. But I am sure that within this month, definitely, the commission will set a date when collection of PVCs will resume.”

Speaking on PVCs destroyed at the INEC office in Qua’an Pan LGA, Plateau State few days before the elections began, the INEC commissioner said the cards had been reproduced for all the voters who submitted their names for new PVCs.
