Notmyproblem: I like listening to opposing argument. Can you tell me your opinion on how voting/not voting impacts the lives of the masses in Nigeria. We all voted massively for the present administration but not too long into their tenure they gave their children/relations juicy jobs through the back door. Today those that voted are no different from those that didn't because we are all feeling the heat we all could as well not have voted and nothing would have changed.
I may be wrong but election in Nigeria is highly rigged so instead of the masses wasting their precious time and some of them getting killed why not step aside and let the politicians for once justify their rigging on a no-vote election. Yes, I can step aside...but NOT for an agenda championing IPOB cause... |

...And you commenting from the comfort and safety of your home, several thousands miles away and in front of a computer maybe possibly right. Look at the sheer difference between their sizes. Being a photojournalist doesn't make you a scientists. Mind you, this may be written to push a narrative. |

DIKEnaWAR: This shows how we as Africans don't research or study our environment to improve or make it better.
These lions have been in Kenya for some years or months, yet no one there observed they were gay till a London photographer came visiting (probably for some days) and made the discovery. For those claiming Mungo Park did not discover River Niger, can you see your lives?
Some of you rush to comment without comprehension just to sound intelligent.
I am talking about discovering that those two lions in Kenya were gay and not general animal/lion sexual behavioural pattern. FYI, they aren't gay. one is a maned lion while the other is a maned LIONESS. The sheer difference in their sizes suppose to tell you that. |

Listen, sometimes you don't have to be a sycophant just because you want to be seen as a 'civilised' being. Not everything the West throw at us is to be gulped down without critical thinking. thebosstrevor: you do not understand the concept of science ,if you do,you wont write what you wrote down.
there are some things that are just nature, science just explain why they are like that
e.g when you throw something up it must come down has been there for many years even before newton
Newton just explain through science why it happens, that made newton discover gravity and form his own laws and no further science can disprove it because it is normal and it is part of nature Do you think Newton gave us a clear understanding of gravity? What really is gravity? Ever heard of gravitational wave? May I burst your bubble...the science world have not fully comprehend what gravity really entails and its true meaning is still up for debate among top physicists. Again, I am Not debating nature itself as I can't fully comprehend it, rather, I am debating What we human term the 'law of nature' which is a conjecture based on our observations, experiments, and past experiences. What I am saying in a nutshell is that man is yet to understand ALL about nature and therefore cannot OBJECTIVELY say a phenomenon impossible in nature which he is yet to FULLY grasp...on a side note... I am sure that people in 10 BC will also tell you that it is impossible for a pane to fly since it is against the ' law of nature' at their time. |
Science/Technology › Re: Goat In Yobe Gives Birth To 'Human-Like' Creature (Photos) by delexy123: 7:18am On Oct 30, 2017 |
Akin1212: Everything about quantum physics is not outside the law of nature. Stop painting science black. Science has drawn a line and it is called speciation. Science is not a clueless practice, it is definite. Nothing has been said in science that has been unsaid, rather things have been unveiled and based on the things known before. If a human and a goat can reproduce successfully, what language will the being speak? You people should manage to use some brain na. There is an impossibility in science, and it sounds so well. Science is the study of the physical world, and it doesn't go beyond that because there is no beyond that anywhere. Even quantum is more physical than you sef Common man, did I hit a nerve? Why attack me rather than refute my statement? When do you think science began?Ohh.. the 21st century right? Should I start listing previously esteemed scientific theories that have been toppled by new findings? Why do you think Eistein's theory of relativity gain notoriety? How many of once popular Isaac Newton's theories are still standing? Mind you, even quantum theory Pierce right through some of them. Oga, science EVOLVES and Some theories elite scientists and philosophers in the previous centuries proposed are now being slyly adjusted or outrightly refuted...again, Science EVOLVES and will continue to do so until we know ALL about our universe. |
Science/Technology › Re: Goat In Yobe Gives Birth To 'Human-Like' Creature (Photos) by delexy123: 6:25am On Oct 30, 2017*. Modified: 6:58am On Oct 30, 2017 |
thebosstrevor: you wanna act intelligent but your view point says otherwise, infact you do not understand the concept of science.
the above situation is not about science,it is about law of nature
science just explained why it is impossible I think we need to make a distinction between Nature itself and what WE term 'the law of nature'. The discovery of quantum particles puncture a hole through what we view as the 'law of nature'. This 'law of nature' is what WE HUMANS have observed overtime from our OWN perspective(and tested to be working) around our environment BUT it doesn't tell us ALL about nature AND there are still many puzzles to be unravelled. Saying an occurrence is impossible does not sound well in the science world as it close the door for further experiments and findings. A true scientist will only tell you that a phenomenon is HIGHLY IMPROBABLE for with the discovering of quantum 'unnatural' properties, the science world has learn better than to dismiss any occurrence as IMPOSSIBLE...on a side note...even as I write, there are top scientists still making research on possibility of pairing a man with a chimpanzee in order to get clear picture of how the ancestor of both primates look like and this is what they have dedicated their lifetime doing... so good luck trying to convince them that it is impossible. |

ivolt: The bold part of your text is ironic because children are naturally gullible and believes almost everything they are told while rational adults are able to question ridiculous beliefs. In all honesty which group do you think you belong?
You are right, half-education is what makes an adult promote ridiculous beliefs even though he knows nothing about it and have no evidence to back up such claims.
Since you are a christian who literally believes that a jewish man died for your sins. Don't you think you are insulting yourself with this line?
I bet you are the ignorant here, knowledge comes with assurance and applications while the ignorants wallow in fair and despair. We both know who is in perpetual fear of innocent "village people". Oga 'ignorant', you never cease to call people ignorant if they don't agree with your opinion. If you are so 'enlightened', wouldn't it be better if you use that knowledge to make tangible impact in Nigeria and Africa rather than shouting 'ignorant' like an Anthem on every thread? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Only Africans That Believe In The Existence Of Ghosts And Witches? by delexy123: 4:23pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
ivolt: I see many people exhibiting inferiority complex on this thread while accusing others of inferiority complex. And many of the pro-superstition arguments are a textbook examples of false equivalencies.
First, America is a land of absurdities, with a population of 300 million and strong church influence, you are bound to find enough people who engage in extreme superstitions.
Just because some white men engage in irrational thinking does not make such thinking rational! There are a lot of gun violence in the US and extreme racism in some quarters, yet, it will dumb to use this example as the reason why high-level of violence and tribalism is okay in another country.
Even at that, witch hunting others for lack of progress is a staple of African belief. People who abandon or mistreats their old parents or kill their kids because they are wizards are not in the same league with someone who believes that luck amulets help them pass exams even though they are both superstitious.
While the former which is the specialty of many Africans, are creating more problems for society and breeding lazy and dangerous thinkers, the latter is merely a burden to themselves and most people don't care.
Albinos are under siege in Tanzania because some fools believe that they are ticket for riches even though the witchdoctors making them "rich" is living in abject poverty. Even in Nigeria, hunchbacks are being targeted for their "spiritual" value. While some superstitious graduates believe it is their uncle, stepmother or an hater that is responsible for their joblessness even though large-scale unemployment is a natural result of poor governance.
Churches are even championing these absurdities by holding witch hunting programs blaming "village people", old wicked men for poverty and lack of husbands.
You can worship a stone, devour live snakes, eat red candles and all that, it is your choice, but if you try to sell such bizarre acts as evidence of witchcraft to others or victimize a set of people for life misfortunes, you will get shut down by people who think rationally.
A belief is not sacred because there are believers! Africa is not backward because of it belief system, rather, it is due to lack of integrity and will of an average African to defend what he believes. An average African can be easily swayed into changing his belief provided you have 'goodies' to shut his mouth and mind. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Only Africans That Believe In The Existence Of Ghosts And Witches? by delexy123: 4:03pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
jhubril: Let's talk about the volume of efforts by the movie industry to paint a not so correct picture of superstitious beliefs(ie withcraft or wizardry ).
On a philosophical note,it is impossible to explain an abstract concept (without any physical appearance)or form as correct or factual knowledge. Arguably, we can only assume to know a great deal of it. This process is limited in metaphysics and Plato cautioned that we must draw a line of distinction between NUOMENA and PHENOMENA;the former is another word for assumption or what existentialists describe as COLLECTIVE CONSPIRACY,while the latter is, according to Plato, correct or factual knowledge.
Take the case of the cloud, normally it is viewed as a white fleecy substance that changes colour but it is ,as a matter of fact and science, the CONCENTRATION OF RAINDROPS.
Does the belief in withcraft assume the form of accurate knowledge as described above or it is movie producers and public sentiments overstretching the truth?
How did we come about such amount of knowledge and information about an inexplicable entity since we agree that it is an invisible realm(Has anyone conversed or even set his eyes on a witch or a wizard?)
In Africa most cultures consider the bird as the conspicuous symbol for witchcraft. You may have heard or read stories in the dailies or caught on the cameras lending credence to this belief. There are questions to be asked. If true why does withcraft takes as its symbol an object of flight and beauty? Ever seen a beautiful garden home to birds of diverse colours, flying across the lush green grass?
In Africa most people will stone a bird to death on the suspicion of witchcraft. As long as I am not invalidating the belief in it,I am going to have to ask us to prove that our knowledge of witchraft is exact and not an over-egged pudding?
This is written to investigate the undue influence African movies have had on our psyche in their attempt go metaphysical, full swing. Do you believe in the possibility of aliens in other solar systems? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Only Africans That Believe In The Existence Of Ghosts And Witches? by delexy123: 3:55pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
j1mmy: They are portrayed as myths and entertainments. These beliefs are dated and today the western world uses them for entertainment and mythical portrayals.
You have to have some commonsense to see it but most Africans are too illiterate to understand the concepts!
On nairaland for example you have to write to most Nigerians like you are educating kids and apes! Sorry!!! In the science world, the believe in the possibility of aliens in other solar systems is rising stronger everyday even among athiests when none has been physically seen. Can you call them deluded for this believe? So how is that different from a person who believe in the existence of ghost? Oh...maybe because scientists gave theirs fanciful and eye-catching names right? Mind you, There are Cable networks dedicated to ghost activities in the USA and a relatively new course called Witchcraftology is gaining recognition in renown universities in the western world. |

OtemSapien: Have you checked for the figurative meaning of a sheep in the dictionary. It means a stupid person. In other word, the person who wrote that passage of the bible meant to say 'A stupid person hears my voice and obey.' Hmm. Can you see how silly you sound? A 'sheep' was known as an animal before the dictionary came to be. The meaning of words changes with time. A sheep then was known to be meek and gentle. It wasn't long ago that the word stupid was used for sheep and that doesn't make the statement of people using sheep as a symbol of gentleness wrong. |

BluntBoy: Why are you overly obsessed with the bold line. This argument is not about prophesy but criticism. Jesus and John the Baptist were critical of the religious leaders. The Apostles, including Paul, were critical of false teachers. Freeze is critical of false teachings. This has nothing to do with anybody being foremost a prophet. Elijah was a prophet but that was not the argument. If you can deny that Elijah was critical of Ahab, then you can have a valid argument with me. But all this unnecessary elongation of a very simple matter is not only tiring but also very annoying. Did l hit a nerve there? ...Mind you, you can't just pick up one character ( criticism in this case) to compare two people and tell the world that they are alike while leaving out the other glaring characters that clearly set them apart from each other. It is like saying Jesus Christ is no different from other humans because he was also born by a woman as others. Yes, all men criticise and it is not even a bad thing to do in itself But placing Freeze in the same breadth as those men you mentioned up there just because he criticise doesn't cut it at all. Again, when Freeze begins to help the 'sheepies' rather than is usual cynicism, I will take him serious. Note: I don't support all new generation pastors either |
