That these kings inherit their mundunmundun posts is not enough, they want to legalize it on top of it all.
Constitutional role ko constitutional toilet roll ni. Do we need any more burden than we are already carrying.

This was how they use style put shariah in the constitution which has already now become a nuisance. And I thought this sultan being a military officer would be more enlightened.

PoliticsRe: Is Inec Bigger Than Nigerian Law. by demmy(m): 10:53am On Mar 16, 2007
Nobody is disqualified that does not deserved to be disqualified. Ngige didn't show up for the verification. He sent an affidavit to INEC from U.S. Imagine!!! Obi was not nominated by his party or any other party for that matter. And Atiku is a A-thief, as his name and the senate committee report showed.

So where is the problem? In future if more bad people are disqualified so much the better. Nigeria is a corrupt society because our leaders are corrupt. The less thieving leaders we have parading the better. Beside Atiku is a sneaky fool. While still in the PDP he was secretly bankrolling another party and still didn't have the courage to resign from his VP post even though he has been a useless VP all this time. So good riddance to bad rubbish.

Now lets vote Pat Utomi for change.

Why are we still plague by rumor mongering in this information age?

Nigeria: Why New Currency Was Introduced, By Soludo

From This Day

Muhammad Aminu
Sokoto

Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo has described the recent removal of the Arabic inscription on the new notes as not targeted of any group, stating that the denominations were translated into Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba for easy identification and also to promote the Nigerian culture.

Soludo made this known, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Sultan in Sokoto.

According to him, the translation of the denominations into three major languages was aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the country.

"We are here on a sensitisation campaign to enlighten the public on the new currency restructuring in the country which will be launched formally on Febuary 28, 2007. I will also like to inform you that the removal of the Arabic inscription on the notes is not targeted at any group or religion but rather to promote our language and cultural heritage".

"As you can see, Naira is the symbol of our nationalism and our pride. It is pertinent to let you understand that Arabic is not one of our national languages and it was inscribed on the notes forty years ago because the majority of people then, can read it in the northern part of the country to the detriment of their counterparts in the South.

"There is nothing as difficult as change because it is the only thing that is constant. Infact, the country has to grow and move forward and people will get accustomed to the innovation. So, we want Journalists to assist in enlightening the public on the new notes and the reforms going on especially the removal of the Arabic letters on the currency which is done to promote unity in diversity," he explained

Responding, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Saadu Abubakar, commended him for the banking reforms, which he said, has transformed the economy and financial landscape.

Said he: "I personally congratulate you for the wonderful reforms you have initiated in the financial sector which has made the Nigerian economy more viable."

"Reform is neccessary for development and progress. Thus, for a country to leapfrog and attain economic growth and prosperity, it requires change which is sometimes painful and against the normal way of doing things. Even here in the caliphate ,we know what reforms stands for and will strive to give our support to enable you achieve your goals".

So I ask do fig trees feel cursed or otherwise about being fig trees?

Just to buttress your point, below is the headline of today's Vanguard online written by one Emmanuel Aziken

"Atiku undergoes 1½ hour surgery • Expected back Thursday"

That is the bigger news as far as the Vanguard people are concerned. Not the killings in Ogun and Sokoto states; not the policemen killed on a boat by the militants in ND. Not even to question why Atiku had to jet abroad for ankle injury while we have so many teaching hospitals around. Can you imagine how happy those goons at Vanguard will be on Thursday when their lord is finally back in the country?

It's not the fault of the Press. Many times they are bullied by those in power. Look at what happened to Godwin Agbroko. I still don't know what to make of it.
If they are bullied, then why not uncover who is bullying them? What better way to help sanitize the polity but to uncover the bad leaders for what they are?

Jesus: Tales from the Crypt
by --Tim McGirk/Jerusalem

http://time-blog.com/middle_east/2007/02/jesus_tales_from_the_crypt.html

Brace yourself. James Cameron, the man who brought you 'The Titanic' is back with another blockbuster. This time, the ship he's sinking is Christianity.

In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn't resurrected --the cornerstone of Christian faith-- and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene.

No, it's not a re-make of "The Da Vinci Codes'. It's supposed to be true.

Let's go back 27 years, when Israeli construction workers were gouging out the foundations for a new building in the industrial park in the Talpiyot, a Jerusalem suburb. of Jerusalem. The earth gave way, revealing a 2,000 year old cave with 10 stone caskets. Archologists were summoned, and the stone caskets carted away for examination. It took 20 years for experts to decipher the names on the ten tombs. They were: Jesua, son of Joseph, Mary, Mary, Mathew, Jofa and Judah, son of Jesua.
Israel's prominent archeologist Professor Amos Kloner didn't associate the crypt with the New Testament Jesus. His father, after all, was a humble carpenter who couldn't afford a luxury crypt for his family. And all were common Jewish names.

There was also this little inconvenience that a few miles away, in the old city of Jerusalem, Christians for centuries had been worshipping the empty tomb of Christ at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Christ's resurrection, after all, is the main foundation of the faith, proof that a boy born to a carpenter's wife in a manger is the Son of God.

But film-makers Cameron and Jacobovici claim to have amassed evidence through DNA tests, archeological evidence and Biblical studies, that the 10 coffins belong to Jesus and his family.

Ever the showman, (Why does this remind me of the impresario in another movie,"King Kong", whose hubris blinds him to the dangers of an angry and very large ape?) Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins, supposedly those of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. News about the film, which will be shown soon on Discovery Channel, Britain's Channel 4, Canada's Vision, and Israel's Channel 8, has been a hot blog topic in the Middle East (check out a personal favorite: Israelity Bites) Here in the Holy Land, Biblical Archeology is a dangerous profession. This 90-minute documentary is bound to outrage Christians and stir up a titanic debate between believers and skeptics. Stay tuned.

What upcoming Computer Olympiad are they talking about? And what Romania?

There is International Olympiad in Informatics taking place in Zagreb, Croatia later in the year.

Are they talking of IOI or some other event? Anyone?

PoliticsWhy New Coins, Notes Bear No Arabic Inscriptions, By Soludo by demmy(op): 9:56am On Feb 16, 2007
Why new coins, notes bear no Arabic inscriptions, by Soludo

From Adamu Abuh, Kano

WITH the stage set for the re-introduction of lower denominations of coins and notes, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has given an insight into the rationale for using local languages instead of Arabic inscriptions on the new denominations.
The redesigned notes and coins will be in circulation from February 28.
At a grassroots sensitisation forum on the new notes held at the Kano branch of the CBN yesterday, Soludo said the quest to promote national literacy in Nigeria's major languages informed the decision to drop Arabic inscriptions from the denominations.
He also said that the choice of the three major local languages on the redesigned notes and coins was aimed at strengthening national unity.
The repackaged notes of N5, N10, N20 and N50 have their values translated into Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba languages.
Also, the redesigned coins of N2, N1, and 50 kobo denominations which are more convenient to carry will be introduced through the commercial banks on the same day.
The decision by the CBN to remove the Arabic inscription, which was conspicuous on the existing denominations, has attracted harsh comments from a section of Nigerian Moslems, who deemed the action an affront to the Islam.
But the CBN chief, who discountenanced the notion, said government's decision was not informed by any religious sentiment. The Federal Government, he added, has no disdain for the Arabic Language, in which the Holy Quran is written.
Soludo said: "It is not eliminating Arabic inscriptions; it is re-writing the Hausa language in a form that everybody will be able to read. What is written in Hausa can be read by every other Nigerian who is not Hausa.
"The Hausa inscription has not been scrapped. It is only that it has been written out, the Igbo one is also written out, the Yoruba one is equally written out. That is the only change and it is part of the promotion of national unity and national literacy in our various languages."
The CBN chief said the new notes, made of polymer, and coins would ease business transactions among Nigerians.
On the benefits of introducing the new coins to the economy, Soludo said: "Prices move in multiples of N5, now you could have a price of something for N57.50 kobo, N58.50 kobo and you get your balance back. But before, you could only have N67, N65. All Nigerians should go back to the use of coins."
He said that the change of the national currency 23 years after the last exercise was in line with international practice, which aims to check counterfeiting of the country's medium of exchange.
Though Soludo declined to reveal the cost of producing the fresh notes and coins, he noted that the measure would save the country at least 60 per cent of the cost of minting coins.
He added that the nation would enjoy a cost reduction of between 42 to 58 per cent in the amount spent on currency production.

How do you measure internet users? Is it by the amount of internet browser users or registered ISP subscribers?
Estimates are made from number of ISP subscribers, number of phone lines, number of internet cafes (mostly in case of developing countries) and by the number of unique IP connections coming from the country.

NG - 162,082,868 population - Country Area: 923,768 sq km
  Capital City: Abuja - GNI p.c.US$ 290 ('02)
5,000,000 Internet users as of Sept/06, 3.1% of the population, per ITU.
