We are using $40 billion to maintain the exchange rate of the Naira to the Dollar at 126.
Soludo should suspect that we would need a foreign reserve of $4,000 billion (4 trillion dollars) to maintain an exchange rate of Naira to Dollar at 1.25.

And as of now, we don't have that kind of foreign reserve.



So because Bolivia, Ghana, Angola and Afghanistan did something crazy, we too should meddle into it.

Look at his mention of Germany and you will realise it was after World War I and World War II that Germany revalued their currency. Afghanistan and Angola too, after Wars, South Korea was after War. Argentina that tried it during peacetime, all the revaluation led to total economic collapse, Ghana he mentioned just revalued their currency this year and we're yet to see the effect.


Brazil is the only stable country that revalued its currency during periods of stability and has continually revalued and will continue to revalue.


This man should not throw us into chaos. And waste billions of Naira printing fancy notes. In fact, I suggest that the company printing Nigerian currency should be investigated and even changed because this regular printing of money backed up by big big grammar is getting really suspicious.

Not to forget that Nigerian bankers are about the smartest in the world when it comes to looking for loopholes in government policies that can be used to rip people or the government off legally.


So please Soludo should leave our currency alone. Japanese Yen is almost equivalent to the Naira yet they have not died. In fact they are doing very well.

This may just be an attempt to please the ignorant masses that complain everyday that our currency has no value.



Now coming back to this issue, I must thank debosky for posting my mind on this matter.

As our economy improves, and we begin to demand payment for our exports in Naira, our currency will APPRECIATE. We don't need these gimmicks of devaluing and revaluing. It's a plot to shyst Nigerians of their hard earned money.

you should realise that the figure of 74,000 military was a 1999 statistic. Over the past few years, the Military has recruited a lot of people especially in the Navy.

There are annual programs in which the Nigerian Military trains young civilian graduate lawyers, doctors, engineers and bankers. It has previously been a closed affair, but this year, entries were advertised in the daily papers, radio and TV. These people are the reserves.

Abeg no dey challenge anyhow. As for the elegantly ignorant PTH, whom unfortunately, was earlier known as davidylan, I see no reason to argue this issue with somebody that cannot properly analyse his immediate environment, let alone far away Nigeria.

please change your statement to read that when you were working in your fast food joint, you were making in a day, more than the labourer working in a fast food joint in Nigeria was making in a month. The start up pay for those "fancy jobs" you're taking about is $12,000 per annum. And any position above that level equals and even surpasses the per capita income in the USA($30,000-40,000 per annum or N3.8 million-N5 million per annum, which is equivalent to N300,000-N400,000 per month)

so I beg your pardon, those menial jobs in the USA and the UK do not pay more than the "fancy jobs" in Nigeria.

The only reason why most people go to far away places to do menial jobs is the unlikely probability of somebody they know seeing them at it.

If you went to UNILAG, I doubt that you would want to work in Mr. Biggs in Surulere or even anywhere in Lagos or even anywhere in Nigeria. It's just the shame.

There's a female friend of mine that lives in a basement in Chicago. She works at a might club for minimum pay. This girl regularly suffers deficiency of vitamin D and other seasonal affection disorders because she does not see the sun 90% of the time.

The only time she came to Nigeria, she had to stay with one of our mutual friends in order to prevent her family from making her over-spend money she scrounged for. Yet she will keep lying to them.

$4 billion dollars you people are saying is mostly money worked by yahoo-yahoo boys using boys based in the UK, South Africa and Netherlands as triangulated channels to recieve payments and Italian girls using their money to build houses for themselves in Benin. so just stop deceiving yourselves. That's enough guns to adequately arm every Nigerian Soldier with non AK-47 and a sidearm pistol each, leaving an excess of 30,000 AK-47s for future use. So far this gun trade seems fairly new. It puts about $200 million in the hands of corrupt US Soldiers and Government Officials while putting in the hands of the Iraqis, the means to slaughter themselves and inadvertently, US Soldiers.
