Oahray: abeg eeee. Quit the subtle whatever-it-is-you-are-doing. As if I don't have Muslim friends. They also rationalise about stuff like this.

Truth is, the Bible doesn't say all sins are the same. It even says there is a sin that can't be forgiven. It doesn't advocate premarital sex either, and even terms sexual acts outside intercourse as 'loose conduct and uncleanness'. Your post made sense but comparing based on the opinion of some who see nothing wrong with it, and ignoring the ones who do, is just not right.
Mind you, I wasn't talking about your Muslim friends but about the Islamic doctrine.

Now that you said it, I can already have it in mind that the bible says all sins are equal on a maybe. You shouldn't have waited for my comparison before pointing the "error" in others's comments. And I didn't make them to show that mine is better but to simply make points and have an understanding of why we act and see things differently.

Btw, it's easy to talk about overcoming temptation, especially online, when you haven't faced one. What happens when you have the chance to do what is wrong? That's what counts. Have real friendship with non-relatives of the opposite sex and come back to tell us how easy it is to avoid those things.
And why should I have unhealthy relationships to prove a point. It is a part of a good upbringing process to get exposed to only that which is beneficial. and that is not to say that I don't have male friends. We only respect our BOundaries .

That is even assuming you are one of the persons you know that have never engaged in the mentioned acts. tongue
And what if I am? If people can say the evils they do loud and clear, I am of the opinion that the good be told louder and clearer. I have aunts, cousins and friends who got married as virgins.

If they can do it, every other person can.

What's the essence if they already got themselves unnecessarily exposed to a male doctor. It is a very big misconception thinking the hymen is all that matters.

There is no wisdom in starting from the scratch. We can't always do that.

We have to meet the world where they are and then try to surpass them.
Family › Re: What Other Means Do We Use? by deols(f): 4:25pm On Jun 26, 2013
I understand the point of view of Christians who think PM sex is alright since all sins are equal. But a Muslim dare not say that for with us, stealing a 5naira pencil isn't the same as killing somebody. There are major and minor sins.

Another is the issue of what the mind thinks. With us, that is not a sin since it is absolutely normal to have thoughts. It is not possible that you would be married to someone you have no feelings for. We however are encouraged to find a way out of such thoughts, get up, do something like reading, fasting, to take the minds off stuffs that cqn lead to sins. Until the acts perceived are carried out, it is not termed a sin.

Everyone talking about how uneasy it is to not have done any kind of kissing and touching haven't seen enough. I have heard and seen and sure they exist.

babyosisi: Nice contributions

Summary is that nearly everyone here believes premarital sex is sin
Everyone not everyone contributing so far, indulged in one way or another before marriage with their intended
Some think they were already set on marrying the man and don't think they did wrong
Others feel they erred and should have waited
Family › Re: Fiancé Family by deols(f): 10:24am On Jun 26, 2013
I don't how a woman can cope with marrying a boy. If he can't yet stand his ground and make his own decisions, he simply isn't ready to be married.

I find the old versus new money argument interesting.I know some new money folks with behaviors and thought pattern so predictable. Everyone who knew them before now can't stop wondering what the fuss is about.

coogar: shouldn't there be a law for men/women like this? surely this is some sort of fraud. misrepresenting one's self to enter into a contract is fraudulent anywhere else but marriage!
That would make sense sha.

After reading the whole thread, I still haven't found the other way 'do we use'.
Family › Re: What Other Means Do We Use? by deols(f): 7:16am On Jun 26, 2013
@Coogar,
blind faith is not practical as well.......i am starting to think this issue might be one of the reasons the divorce rate has skyrocketed in nigeria. people marrying with their eyes closed without knowing what they are getting into. God has given me 5 sensory organs and a pënis. i intend to use these resources to get myself a tested and trusted partner that i would live it for the rest of my life without hiccups. to the people who want to marry out of word of mouth, i salute y'all!
What would God want? Why does He call fornication a sin?

You can't be thoroughly religious nor give a religious view if your actions are not directed by faith. Faith is the base on which religiosity is built. That is why we pray and believe they would be answered.
Family › Re: What Other Means Do We Use? by deols(f): 11:02pm On Jun 25, 2013
@Coogar,
what sins?
that's if she even sees it as that. like i have highlighted, fornication does not start and stop with sex. crushing on someone is lust and it's fornication. how many women who crush see it as committing a sin?
You should put in mind that I gave my opinion as a Muslim. Having the real act of sexual intercourse isnt as grievous as lusting after somebody. Fornication must be discouraged in every way possible. It is one of the great sins.

the world has moved way beyond trusting people's word of mouth. proper checks have to be done. 30 years ago, you are what the passport you are carrying says you are. these days you have to do biometrics, fingerprints, etc......i am very practical - marriage is a lifetime process. i refuse to remain stuck with a damaged good because i failed to do my due diligence.
I agree with you. Every sane person would be concerned. Unfortunately, this thread has not helped in providing a way out. Fornication is just impractical.

what's istikhara?

dayokanu: Deols but not everyone know they have a problem

The brother who spills in 1 minute would still have normal errections, And wont know

he has a problem without test running
Are there medical solutions to it? If Yes, they can seek help, see it as a test from God and strengthen their faith.

They can attain God's favour through their disposition to it.

I believe that if the normal path is taken towards marriage, the best shall happen in it.

So many people have gotten married without test driving and are happy with their lives.
Family › Re: What Other Means Do We Use? by deols(f): 10:16pm On Jun 25, 2013
coogar: and if one of the partner or both deliberately withholds the information, what happens? still rely on islamic scriptures?

which is easier to do? to test run and be sure or go through a long tedious divorce? the way people throw the word "divorce" around makes me laugh - divorce costs money!
The easiest things are not always the best. How about if she test drives and they dont end up 2geda? she would have test driven, accumulating sins with many people.

If the need to test drive arises, then the possibility of contacting STIs should also be in mind.

Trusting in God and having fears for Him can be so rewarding, I tell you.

Divorce is hard and should be the last resort. A deceptive man is not deserving of a good woman.

I believe the Istikhara works wonders. People can rely on it smiley

How else can a Christian woman make sure the commodity she is buying dey alright especially since we are taught that se.x before marriage is wrong.

*A man not alright down there, by Islamic principles is Not to seek a woman's hand in marriage.

*communication- I think she can ask questions that she deems fit. He is allowed to thoroughly have a good look at her and she's allowed same. But all forms of touching are disallowed.

*They cannot move near fornication. test driving is a no no.

*The couple is expected to have prayed and especially had Istikhara(prayer for counsel). With this, they can have faith, believing the best will happen.

*during Nikkahs, I have heard Imams asking the groom about the goodness . I assume it is a part of the Nikkah in most cases.

*zina(fornication, adultery) is one of the great sins in Islam. It can never be justified.

*Divorce is allowed on the basis of sexual gratification.

solidbroda: thank you for the comment. However, before I elaborate on this, could you kindly clarify what you mean by "being used for a purpose"? What purpose actually? And do u know how it feels to have an holistic view of the world than seeing the world in one angle like a child who's Autistic by nature?
There is only a few things that you decide. Like you couldnt determine your sex, tell the family you wanted. You have no power over your life.

You could even not study well and pass an exam and you could do good at an interview and not get the job.

There are forces at work. You think you read books that strengthen your faith or help you out of religion but the writers' aim, you have helped him achieve. The writer is a player. You are the pawn.

Who's playing?

it is between the good and the bad. The right and the wrong

How many?
check above

Who wins at the end?

The judgement day is when that is told. The evil doers then wish they had listened.

Can the pawns ever decipher the thoughts of the players?

They may be able to or not. Usually they are driven by their own ego, one reason you may not pity them.

On another level, they simply were doomed to fail. Then, you wish you could help them out and pray/ work hard that you don't ever fall into their category.

ln essence the world wasnt made to involve only the Good ones. The bad even make the world happen.

Daresh: Speaking as a mother, I know that you can not let. Children Always have their way. It gives them a sense of entitlement which does not exist in the real world. I remember as a child my. Mum refusing to let me have chocolates when the freezer was stuffed full and her only reason being "I don't want to spoil you"! EXASPERATING!!! I swore I would not do the same but now, I find myself doing same to my daughter. She wants to drink ribena every miniute. I know I have indulged her to some extent cos honestly I hate to hear her cry. And she has exploited it like no mans business. She doesn't do what I ask her to do, she is stubborn and obstinate. Now I have learnt to ignore her when I feel she has had enuough. To smack her when she is stubborn and to give her a time out in her room when she starts screaming. So my love, you can "spoil" your kids, but don't let them take it for granted.
My sister told me the story of a little boy who's parents took him abroad at the end of every term for holidays. One year, the family was bumped to 1st class from economy class as per frequent fliers! The little boy went back to school and started boasting to all little friends that he no longer flies economy class just first class. Holiday period rolled around and dear Daddy bought the usual economy class. Little boy refused to fly economy cos his classmates on the same flight would laugh at him. The little boy caused such a ruckus that his grandpa bumped his flight to business class for him. Is that how you want to spoil your children? Into believing what you do out of love is their right?
Sometimes we need to be tough and deprive them little so don't don't come out soft, mushy and feeling entitled. Maybe the day you can't provide your girl turns to aristo and the boy turns to Anini. Follow Gods word in raising kids on this one. One more thing, my grandfather was a very very rich man in the east, my uncle his son was made to carry stones in a barrow to sell in the market. He told me, that he hated his father then, but now he realises that it was just character building. He told me that the things his Dad made him do made him the man he is today. (In between, he petted and spoilt his daughters. My mum inclusive tongue)
He probably doesnt like the 'start up from the scratch' thingy.

Thanks for taking the time..will put it all in mind.

chaircover: "make them as Comfortable as possible" for example is flying direct to Nigeria instead of stop overs and hanging round airports waiting for connections and its things like that that I was referring to when I said "maybe" they are spoilt or maybe not" . .it depends on how individuals see it. Is it comfort? is it luxury? is it just being a good parent? who knows?

parenting is an individual thing so long you always have an eye on the ball and are looking at the overall goal, which is to turn out well adjusted responsible adults then you do what you feel is best.
That is more like it
