@ op, i see d need to be proud of what you do and never to be ashamed of being a Muslim. but, at the same time, we have to be careful of something, riyaa(show off) which is highly forbidden in Islam. It is okay to pray at these places when it is time for salaah but the intention should never be to draw attention, as in that case, the reward for the act would be lost.

I hope many can be proud to express themselves as Muslims everywhere. We have the best of what is good for mankind, why then should we be shy of it.
Islam › Re: Celebrating Mawlid by deols(f): 8:19pm On Feb 03, 2012

"Whoever introduces a new matter into our deen, which is not originally part of it, will have it rejected." (Muslim)

the above sums it up.

We all believe Islam is complete. Nothing was left unsaid in the Qur'an and the prophet didnt forget to tell us anything- but many people's actions say otherwise.

To me,Islam is very simple. Whatever the prophet taught us to do,found in the Qur'an and the authentic ahadith is fine. Any other thing(act of worship) is bid'ah and a misguidance.

But I wonder why as simple as the above is, people go about bringing 'justifications' for maulud. Many of the time, it is just about, not wanting to feel wrong or not wanting to accept that the practice you have known from childhood is wrong- arrogance.

The prophet spoke about two things we should be careful of, extremism and inadequacy(not sure of the exact text). many people think the likes of the boko harams are the only ones in extremes, But I think when you start doing what the prophet did not do, you are on the extreme side- which is even worse than the inadequacy.

WaAllahu a'lam.

believe me my friend, from experience that guy's job is half gone. A soldier in dodan barack was almost dismissed 4 beating up a girl in obalende road. He was simply askd if dat was his outpost?, directly disobeyin an order? And to make it worst, oyo state lawmakers have referred d case to FG. Those friends he used will hate him 4 life if anything shld happend to their jobs.
this is very much different from being dismissed. they should be made to take responsibility for their actions. the consequences should be dire. What was he thinking beating a girl. Gosh!! the day anyone lays their hands on any female I know, ah! them go know
Islam › Re: Are The Muslims Ever Happy? by deols(f): 7:36am On Feb 02, 2012
^^do I expect other than the above from you?? point am making is clear enough. Even if they are unhappy how does that justify anything. He even claims Muslims in Nigeria are unhappy as if they have a monopoly of that. Put bigotry aside and think critically and dont always be too early to respond. that might help u in a way.
Politics › Re: Customs Men Beat Up Teacher For Punishing Officer's Son. by deols(f): 7:32am On Feb 02, 2012
The father's actions are wrong. He could just have taken his son to a school where beaten is disallowed

But really, something should be done about beating/corporal punishments in schools. they do more damage than good.

I started writing as a child primarily as a means of non-verbal expression. At 13, an english teacher would always have us write 2-3 pages on a random topic once a week. Known as a very strict grader, it was a serious competition to see who could score anything close to 30/50! shocked His encouragement and constructive criticism eventually led to several of those essays being published in the form of a small novel in my penultimate yr in secondary school . . . ended up being adopted as required literature text for secondary schools in Ogun state then in the late 90s.

Now i mainly write science reports! grin No time for fairy tales again.
you must be getting royalties on the book then. Nice to hear.

Teachers play a role in my love for writing too even though my Mum had always encouraged me to do that.

maclatunji:
I am not sure why I write but without seeking to be arrogant, I think it just comes naturally. Anybody can write, if you went through primary and secondary school and passed your exams without cheating, I can definitely say you are on your way to being a writer because you had to think and articulate your thoughts to pass.

I read a lot as a teenager and those bits of information stick with you as you grow older. I write to share information, mould other people's thoughts and make changes that I think can make the world a better place.

Deols, I am not going to buy your books if you write them #Joking.

If you ever need friendly input into your work let me know- I would be glad to help.
I agree everyone can write but the line between a writer and every other literate is the ability to co ordinate those thoughts into something captivating enough for people to keep asking for more.
Islam › Re: Are The Muslims Ever Happy? by deols(f): 6:51am On Feb 02, 2012
I wonder what goes up in the minds of these christians when they open these kinds of thread. Seriously, does the above justify anything??

TO them, the hereafter or the true religion of God must be about who is having it best in this world?? it is a pity that the real essence of our being is lost in their minds all in the name of fitting into what is happening in the world. I'd rather live where they are sad and be sure of an after life in paradise than an affluence that would be shamed in hell.

Then, the definition of happiness is relative. You sure cannot measure contentment merely by looking into the eyes of people and that, I tell you, determines how happy you are. The west must be your yardstick for who is happy, as a slowpoke. But, it is in those countries that you see people ready to change their God-given, most of the time, even beautiful forms into others. They must be very happy then. A place where every teenager wants to feel in and getting a date for prom is an headache.

@op, You must be lacking in self esteem too. You must be seeing the poverty in Nigeria as a curse from God or as a punishment. I just wish people can think straight sometimes.

And to your question, though silly, there is an answer. Muslims are Ever happy. Everyone has a sad moment in life, and u must have had yours too at the death of a relative for example, or at a time when u couldnt get something u wanted.

Islam › Re: Shia Muslims From The Igbo Race Mourn For Imam Hussain (as) On Ashura Day by deols(f): 1:04pm On Jan 31, 2012
Beating your chest and feeling so sad over someone's death is not a practice the prophet Muhammad taught us. Going on pilgrimage is only to makkah and the prophet didnt order it for elsewhwere until shiites started going to Iraq(as shown by lagosshia some days ago). I implore Muslims to follow the true tenets of Islam. No one could have known Islam better than the prophet and his pious predecessors. I hope Allah shines our path and guide us all to the right path.

Now you need atheists to help decode your Quran.

In fact after work today, I will spend at least 1 hour to break down that article and show you how silly it is.

Wow !!
all i feel for you, frosbel is pity. Of what benefit would breaking that down be to you- he is only human and can make mistakes. I pointed that out earlier. Since you have been coming on this board, I doubt that uv learnt anything. What a waste of your time.

olawalebab:
The writer of the article is not writing as a MUSLIM, he uses what he believe to analyse his thought.
the more reason u should not just take it up as a proof of the QUr'an's uniqueness. for example, I can claim the Qur'an is unique from the way its recitation sounds to the ear. Anyone ready to disprove me will only have to produce something similar. But we dont go ahead praising this guy if he cant prove his assertions beyond reasonable doubt.- My opinion.

thanks,i mean those who should pay.Is a student who rcvs allowance due for zakah?
olawalebab:
Thanks, Zaakat is not due on TRANSFER PAYMENT, but earned income. therefore, a student who receive allowance is not eligible but can give out SADAQAH.
really?? I av a differing opinion But I stand corrected. If u are on an allowance and u are able to keep from it an amount zakaat is payable on for a year, I think you are to pay zakaat. I once wrote an article on zakaat and while reading for it, I realised even an infant can be rich enough to pay it. If he has a wealth, an inheritance, the zakaat should be calculated on it and paid. You may have other things like gold jewellery that zakaat is payable on and this, at least is not something you earn on but that you own.

Thanks sis for noticing yet another error  grin
Should av known u'd be here shining ur teeth in happiness cheesy

the link is d product of a mind- an intelligent one for that matter. It doesnt make the Qur'an false. It only shows we can make mistakes in our interpretation of things, and especially the QUr'an. and this we should be careful of.

The Qur'an interpretes the Qur'an. the ahadith interprete the QUr'an. Any other thing apart from the above should be well verified before being adopted. I hope u understand wink

at least, the media can stop attaching 'the islamic sect' to the name, boko haram. Obviously, they are not fighting for Islam when they decided to threaten NlC over fuel subsidy nor are they fighting for Islam, when Al- Mustapha's case becomes important to them.

More of their victims are Muslims. Muslims reject them as speaking for us or acting on our behalf.

Family › Re: Eating At Funerals. by deols(f): 5:39pm On Jan 29, 2012
what is more pathetic is that some of the people too ready to carry out the celebrations have left the celebrated in neglect before their death. The celebrations are usually a show of wealth or a means of finding something to do. you'd even hear such things as "I was there at ur father's and so u av to be here too" some others even make money from it. when in government positions, there fellow thieves can donate towards the celebration.

IMO, no matter the reason, wining, dining, singing or what have you at the death of anyone is simply insensitive

I av said it again and again that pple like frosbel would do worse than boko haram if they av their way. They would enforce what they deem right and disallow what they term babaric by all means.
