Islam › Re: Who Should Go To Hajj, Mum Or Wife? by deols(f): 9:05pm On Feb 14, 2012
if i were the wife sef, I'd let him take his mother to avoid any problem. I wouldnt be needing any hadith for that.

I sense there are other issues though. If the mother has always been that way, competing with the wife, a time would come when hers wouldnt make priority list. I fear for this kind wahala o. sad

samstradam:
I think I should come clean on what made me really interested in this topic besides the avenue to learn more about Islamic religion and culture. I indulge in a bit of poetry, and I must admit I find the tweets deeply poetic. Honestly without the poetry in the tweets I would have not started the topic. Now I am not a muslim nor do I read Arabic (another reason why I posted the original tweets in Arabic), so I must say it is the translation of the tweets in English that has caught my attention. Maybe it's the ignorance of looking at the tweets with my African Westernised eyes or my little undertsanding of Islam, but  I detect no offence or insult.

Looking at the first tweet I see nothing that seems negative until the writer complains about the "halos of divinity surrounding the Prophet", and accorrding to Tbaba, there seems to be nothing wrong with him casting that aspersion. He then follows it up with what could be seeen as the most negative statement in that tweet "I will not pray for you"- negative it seems but it seems to flow naturally from the previous line. And by the way do muslims pray for the prophet, I mean akin to the way some Catholics still pray for their dead?

The second tweet's negativity seems to occur at the end, but looking at it as a lover of poetry, the meaning a lot of people are going to get from it is not what I take from it. What I take from it is the "hate" he seems to infer is a direct consequence of him seeing the Prophet everywhere he turns, thus kind of saying he loves, hates and does not undertsand what he sees wherever he turns i.e. the Malud celebration going on that day. If that tweet is read line for line or phrase for phrase, then I can see the possible offence but not if read as a whole which is surely what a writer would intend.

Finally the last tweet's main theme seems to suggest an equal and fraternal love, something all the tweets have been building up to. I'm guessing the issue here would be how appropriate the inference of this is. That I leave for Muslims to discuss.

It's not new that people of the arts find Islam quite attractive. Especially if you are from this part of the world where Islamic writers and poets helped keep our culture  alive and written down in such a beautiful way for generations (Liyongo anyone).  It;s just amazing how different the Islam of then seems to be than that of now, especially when pertaning to the arts.

If this kid had written his tweets in prose or so I might understand the uproar, but in the way it's presented to me at the moment, especially he being a Muslim and a Saudi, I'm struggling to understand this response from the cradle.
Arabic is a beautiful language. At the time the Qur'an was revealed, the arabs were at the height of their civilisation. The Qur'an challenged them to bring something like it if they were in doubt it was from God. they couldnt. As beautiful as the language is on its own, as literary gifted as the arab pagans were, they still couldnt bring forth anything like the Qur'an. read more here- https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-855448.0.html

Islam › Re: Questions - Due To Muhammad Tweets by deols(f): 8:40pm On Feb 14, 2012
what does anyone gain by speaking evil of the prophet.

How about David, Jude, frosbel and co being taught by their religion to respect people of other faiths?

THe guy most probably knew what the repercussion is before making such twitter posts.

Like tbaba said, an apology would be fine and there's a great deal of difference between Islam and what Muslims practice. I keep fingers crossed and await the verdict.

uplawal:
This is a shiekh in Islam channel during question and answer, that says one cannot pray in a clothing changing room when salat time meets you there. But why?
to the best of my knowledge, nothing stops anyone from praying in a dressing room. Maybe something that has to do with the use of mirrors?. anyone claiming that to be haram would have to give us proofs. the following hadith says it all-

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I was given five that were not given to anyone before me." Among these five, he mentioned the earth. He said, "The earth has been made for me [and for my Ummah] as a masjid [place for worship] and a pureness [place for tayammum (dry ablution)]; therefore, anyone of my Ummah can pray whenever the time of Prayer is due." (Al-Bukhari)

goggs:
its interesting, your photos, showing the devotion of Muslims in various places and scenarios.

the photos of open air prayers in the west ie UK, US and other parts of Europe struck me.

would non Muslims in the middle east be allowed to be openly expressive of their religious obligations? the obvious answer to this question dampens the warm feeling effect of your photos.
you call the answers obvious but i doubt that what i av in mind is same as what you do. truth of the matter is, there is so much bias in what the media tells you and a considerable number of people of other faiths reside in these middle east countries. Ask the diplomats you know and they may have something true to tell you.

lemme give u an example. there was a day I saw a CNN report on Sudan. it was in 2007(not exactly sure) and d report was on how fortunate anyone in the north was to have tasted ice cream. i was surprised at that. But I assure you, CNN was deliberately giving you an impression of Sudan. In 2010, while CNN would report on the referrendum in Sudan, they showed a very beautiful part of the country, expressing how much the north was very developed at the expense of the south. . .I bet I'v said enoff.

the same CNN was quick to report boko haram matters and wouldnt give #occupyNigeria the desired coverage.

Islam › Wanna Go Somewhere Without Muslims? by deols(op): 7:44pm On Feb 13, 2012
Two men were on a plane on a business trip when a Muslim couple boarded the plane and were seated right in front of them. The two men, eager to have some fun, started talking loudly.

"My boss is sending me to Saudi Arabia", the one said,

"But I don't want to go, too many Muslims there!"

The Muslim couple noticeably heard and grew uncomfortable.

The other guy laughed : "Oh, yeah, my boss wanted to send me to Pakistan but I refused, way too many Muslims!"

Smiling, the first man said, "One time I was in Egypt but I HATED the fact that there were so many Muslims !"

The couple fidgeted. The other guy responded, "Oh, yeah ! You can't go ANYWHERE to get away from them, the last time I was in France I ran into a bunch of them too !"

The first guy was laughing hysterically as he added, "That is why you'll never see me in Indonesia, way too many Muslims!"

At this, the Muslim man turned around and responded politely, "Why don't you go to Hell ?",

He asked, "I hear there's not very many Muslims THERE !" cheesy

^^ were you there @ his death?? this is the question I'd ask a Muslim who curses anyone thought to have died a non-muslim.---->> self explanatory enough, I think.

Abu lahab is accursed. cursed by Allah. Are putting yourself in the same position??. .My stance remains. Plus you can always make your points without the curses.

Islam › Re: Why Was My Thread Deleted, And Explaining How And Why Yazeed is Accursed by deols(f): 4:33pm On Feb 12, 2012
i dont thnk anyone is in d position to call another person accursed. until d day of judgement, no one knows who really is. Such words are against Islamic culture IMO and especially used on a fellow muslim,is wrong. Well, lagosShia is probably showing us d hate-filled sect he's been working day and night to preach to us. i doubt that Muslims who are aware of Islamic principles would be swayed.

And again, this is a forum with rules. The day you decided to register, you accepted to follow the terms. Going against which is even Unislamic. I hope our dear brother lagosShia would heed.

Romance › Re: At This Age And Still A Virgin? by deols(f): 11:20pm On Feb 11, 2012
if you've been on nairaland long enough, you'd know what happens with 'virgin threads'. SO i understand d op's motive.

@op, being a virgin until marriage is a good thing and something to be proud of especially at this age. Obviously it isnt about  a lack of opportunity as some want to make themselves believe but something about discipline and self respect.

I wonder why non-virgins find virgin talks offensive or see it as a call to service(bashing time). I doubt that anyone comes talking you down when you talk about your sexcapades. So, if this isnt okay by you, you can always move on. no be by force to comment.

wow!!!
Mallam Sanusi is an inspiration!
While I have my reservations as regards some of his points (yh! i have to authenticate them first!), I do agree with most of what he said.
It is well known that the shariah being practiced in northern Nigeria is to a large extent political. There wasnt much done to institutionalise it the right way. Many of the judges do not have any formal education in shariah law. I have heard of judges with only a degree in hausa language- you can imagine that.

We need more muslims like mallam Sanusi to preach the true Islam-the religion of Peace! cool

^^you locked the thread, 'restoring peace . . . and so, I decided to answer you here.

Of course, you are a co-mod. but I dont think that puts you in a position where you can call us names. using the word, childish, to me, is one. saying that may not be because you'r a mod(I mean, may just be your natural way of acting) but in my opinion, a co-mod should lead by example. #justsaying
Politics › Re: Atiku's Political Adviser Escalates His Attack On Wole Soyinka by deols(f): 8:50pm On Feb 08, 2012
@Novice1 i get ya point. the man is very much over rated.

But why are politicians generally shameless. Mr. Bashir could have done better.

I really am interested in how Boko haram carried out the threat on Mr. Soyinka for until then, his claim of threat is another super story to me.
