[quote author=Area-Fada]4.Only a minority (10-15 %) of Muslims practice polygyny because of additional financial and psychological burdens of handling more than one family.

[/size]

If only 10-15% of Muslims practice polygyny, why have they been telling us the population of Northern Nigeria is more than South because Northerners marry generally marry up to four wives. Where did you get your figures from?

If true then the census fraud is bigger than we thought.

Each man his own.

Personally polygamy is too troublesome. I want my peace of mind.[/quote]Muslims generally have a large number of Children. An average Muslim, from what I have seen has 5 in a monogamous setting. Now imagine how much that becomes in a polygamy.

It sounds somehow that you use northern Nigeria as an example of Muslims. The population of Nigeria is not up to the population of Muslims in India..and here you are using Northern Nigeria as a representative of Muslims.

We can't believe it just because he said it.

Well, my deductions are--

1.Successful people don't make the most noise about feminity as they have other things to define their success and 'manhood'. A poor man would rather want something that shows he is a man..and a booby woman might just be one to choose tongue

2. Same goes for the hungry man

Should we take boko haram to be synonymous with Islam and Muslims?

The prophet had deals with the Jews of his time. I see no reason why their help should not be sought when need be. I really hope the boko haram can be dealt with in every way possible.

I think it is very wrong to have that 'hatred for jews' as a Muslim thing.

Of course, we hate the occupation of Palestine but we also like and use jewish inventions in technology.
IslamRe: Would You Marry A Second Wife If You Were Wealthy? by deols(f): 3:54am On Oct 30, 2013
Deen4me:

Not to sugar coat it

We should not connote negativity if any Muslim decides to marry based on physical attributes (as you put it lust). It is perfectly legal from the Islamic point.

Find references below

Made beloved to me from your world are women and perfume, and the coolness of my eyes is in the prayer.”

(Ahmad and An-Nasa ‘i)

Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA), Muhammad {PBUH} said:

"A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty, and her religion. So you should marry ...the religious woman [otherwise], you will be a loser.'"

(Bukhaari, 3/242; Muslim, 2/1086)

Whichever of the four reasons for getting married to a woman (1st,2nd,3rd or 4th), so long as its done in accordance to the sunnah, it s rewardable.

'Umar b. al-Khattab narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said:
Deeds are [a result] only of the intentions [of the actor], and an individual is [rewarded]
only according to that which he intends. Therefore, whosoever has emigrated for the sake of Allah and His messenger,
then his emigration was for Allah and His messenger. Whosoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain,
or a woman [whom he desires] to marry, then his emigration is for the sake of that which [moved him] to emigrate."

Bukhari and Muslim.

Finally can you please educate me on the bolded statement above

I am only saying that your point of polygyny helping society becomes invalid when there is no law guiding the men on reasons to choose it. They can choose it out of lust, and they would still be ok, Islamically.

There are also situations where younger girls would rather marry the rich older men, neglecting the younger guys.

I don't think that this helps society. In essence, I am saying that there is no point justifying it. People get into it for personal reasons and most of the time, not because they want to save the world.

prettyprettywow: so consultants in engineering, economics.pharmacy and nursing all went to medical school first? lol. like I wrote earlier, go and check the meaning of consultant first before typing. Google is your friend. I still wonder how some people try to bend the truth. You left the examples I gave and just managed to steer your argument to consultants in medicine, leaving the points I raised..
The context is in medical practice.

btw, your bitterness is too pronounced. can you lower it down?

Logicbwoy: Why are you asking the question now? Eh? After I asked it? You didnt see the problem with the pic until an atheist raised it?
And before you say that I'm derailing.....I doubt that the Prophet made such a wide curse on all use of alcohol (my opinion). So I agree with you on this issue....sha waiting for ABDH's response
Well, I wanted it clarified, anyway.
IslamRe: Misconception In Islam: Alcohol Is Forbidden In All Forms by deols(f): 3:41am On Oct 30, 2013
AbdH: Alcoholic beverages of course, it is clearly stated in the image. Even foods that contain alcohol are forbidden. Alcohol can be used on wounds though...but the ingestion is a no no.
The clarification is at least, good.
HealthRe: Consultant Doctors Asked Court To Nulify Non-doctor's Appointmnt As Consultants by deols(f): 5:07pm On Oct 29, 2013
prettyprettywow: go to Google and type consultant biochemist, consultant economist, consultant pharmacist, consultant nurse, consultant engineers. etc. you will see what happens in sane countries. are the above more educated than other medical workers? just because healthcare is multidisciplinary does not mean others shouldn't reach the peak of their career. I used to have respect for you, but you just lost that cos of this myopic statement. let's wait and see how this plays out. hope our dear "medically qualified"consultants won't be put to shame like the ARD. I think the problem with our Nigerian physicians is English language. consultant means an expert in a particular field, who gives professional advice or services. so nobody is dragging to be a consultant in medicine with them as they are the experts in that. live and let's live is the motto.
The ones I know of go to medical school before specialising on those medical sciences. They have the broad knowledge of medicine and can truly be consultants.

Most of my lecturers during basic medicine graduated medical school before further studies in physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, etc

That does make their qualification as consultant physiologist etc reasonable.

But I cannot confirm that it happens that way in all cases.
IslamRe: Misconception In Islam: Alcohol Is Forbidden In All Forms by deols(f): 5:01pm On Oct 29, 2013
@AbdH,

About the pic you posted about the prophet cursing people who deal with alcohol. Can you confirm whether that hadith is about the beverage or dealing with alcohol in all forms?

Because, for example, the spirit used in cleaning wound is alcohol. A more concentrated one for that matter. Would having a company that deals in its production or helping people clean their wounds or having your wounds cleaned with it be haram?

I think the hadith is about the beverage.
IslamRe: SMH! Maybe Muslims Were Right About The West- Britons Want Ban On Burkha by deols(f): 4:56pm On Oct 29, 2013
wiegraf: It is, though somewhat simplifying, exactly that. Just as you have your own warped reasoning/social responsibility that entails your forcing women to wear the full ninja uniform or even just cover their hair, legs, etc.

World cup time is coming, how are you going to handle the hom.osexuals and drinkers that are bound to show up? Do you think that because your storybook claims GOD!!?, your reasoning is some way, in any way whatsoever, more sensible than theirs??

It's really simple, if you don't approve of their norms, leave the country or don't visit. Same you tell foreigners who show up in islamic countries, no?
what is this one saying?

If I think women should not be forced to not wear what they want, don't you think that I would want that people be not forced to wear what they don't want ?

You seem to be reasoning backward not to be able to tell that I do not care whether someone is gay or not so far they are not bothering me with it.

If you care for gay people, isn't it just a warped up thinking that makes you want the rights of some others trampled on?
IslamRe: 81 Ways To Win Your Husband's Love by deols(f): 4:48pm On Oct 29, 2013
I dont know why people emphasise how long the marriages were, neglecting how happy they were.

Are you saying, these fore mothers and fathers were happy with their lives? If they were, it could be good that we just follow in line and be just happy like that.

But what proof does anyone have to that? Most of the things I hear is of women totally subjected to the tyranny of men.
IslamRe: Would You Marry A Second Wife If You Were Wealthy? by deols(f): 3:19pm On Oct 29, 2013
@Deen4me, You claim that it solves certain societal issues, like helping widows get married. Whereas there is no law asking the men to only have other wives out of pity for them or so as to spend on them.

Many a time they are driven by lust..and the social effects of that can even have grave consequences.
IslamRe: SMH! Maybe Muslims Were Right About The West- Britons Want Ban On Burkha by deols(f): 3:14pm On Oct 29, 2013
I still dont understand the reason anyone would want to control the choices others make for themselves.

And dont tell me some warped reasoning of social responsibility.

onegig: Tvs are still tvs and i did agree that we moved from black and white to coloureds ones but they are still tvs. All i am saying is the PC would evolve i.e increased speed and all those but it ain't going anywhere. That you watch internet tv on your pc has not lead to the extinction of tvs. Thats what you need to understand. No matter the proliferation of smartphones and tablets. Personal computers would still be in vogue. For light users of computers they might find it easy to move on to tablets but to heavy and average users then not totally possible. I was working on my phone today but when i needed to do batch processing of some images i had no option that to first transfer to my system and do the work . I hope you get it. A new company can bring a new product but they can't single handedly dictate the trend of technology.
For how long do you think pcs would be in vogue? There are children being born, you know, who may never have to use pcs. They may start by using tablets and is what they will get comfortable with.

By the time your friends and you are pretty old, your grand children might be laughing at why you wouldn't embrace 'technology'

AbdH: Please mods,
I was surprised to see that my post which was under the post whose link is pasted below has been hidden.
I am still perplexed as to what my offense really is for that post was completely harmless. I may go overboard sometimes but not in this case and I believe a reason for hiding it may prevent similar occurrence on my part in the future. Thank you.
https://www.nairaland.com/1493793/misconception-islam-alcohol-forbidden-all#19126621
Salaam.
I am more surprised that complaints went on on that thread even though you and tbaba know that this is the right thread for complaints. I am sure you know at least that, that is wrong.

The thread in question is about alcohol and how it is a misconception that using alcohol in all forms is haram. Everyone posted their points and the Op and others did not disagree on the matter raised. I even thought it is homepage worthy and could not tolerate spoilers on it.

The disagreement is on something entirely different which opening a thread on and linking it up to the initial thread is definitely not a hard thing to do. All you needed to do, instead of being adamant is open a new thread and post the link on the one you were derailing while asking all parties to meet you on it. That definitely would not have taken as much energy as has been dispended so far.

Topic is on alcohol and your post, the one hidden is on salaat. Are you telling me that they are the same??

What happens when you ask of how many rakaah is observed in subh. He tells you two. And then you ask him for his evidence and then he quotes it. Thereafter, you disagree...don't you think that the thread would shift from being about alcohol to being about salaat or about a sect that only believe in the Quran?

We have had to deal in the past with shia against sunnis and when the threads become unbearable with insults flowing, people then start to ask for the thread to be closed. Then the main objective of the thread is lost. I remember stepping up and having to ban offenders sometime ago.

In this case, you could think it is so easy to just tell the quraniyya guy what you think is right because to you, what he believes in is what is wrong. So you think it is no big deal to just use that thread to point it out instead of opening a different thread for that? Should every discussion have to even degenerate to , 'you are on the wrong path'and I am right?. For all it is worth, that thread is a good one and nothing in his Op is wrong. Why should the sect talk happen on that thread? But who knows how many of his types could spring up on the defence.
and soon the Islam section would become a Muslim war zone where every discussion is about your sect instead of it being about what you originally posted on.

Ok so, In conclusion, the ban was not a threat even though I didnt carry it out at the time. If you think I have any power at all, the wise thing would have been to not test it. I won't hesitate next time.

NB.

I only used this to reply all. Not all the messages are necessarily to you, AbdH.
