Someone used your phone number to open a GT bank account.

That's quite a bother. It could mean they have no form of authentication when people try to open account. It could also be them trying to meet up with some imaginary target.

It's just that I'm not so sure if the short code is even theirs as I have no experience with them before now.

So guys, I got this SMS from 'GTBank' short code on my phone a little over a month ago, notifying me that I opened an account and should proceed to find it. I disregarded it at first sight, my mind flashing back to those 'short-code' cheats from yesteryears, where a scammer will trickly insert their number in the USSD code so you will transfer airtime to them unwittingly.

Today, I got another SMS from the same code, saying my opened account is yet to be funded. Out of curiousity, I logged in the account number in my existing bank account with another bank and saw that the details of the account that emerged were my last name and first name. It would appear an account was opened in 'my name' without any input from me.

I'd like to know if there is any existing line of action to be followed in this situation.

I served as the Secretary General in almost all the associations I've belonged. All were physically draining but the most draining of all was that of my CDA, where you have to prioritise the interests of residents above yours. After overseeing three tenures, I had to pull unholy strings to escape that seat because both landlords and tenants won't hear of it; despite there being change of chairpersons, they'd always want me as the Secretary General.

With this in mind, it's really strange seeing these people who actually have to oversee a much larger group, so comfortable doing this over and over. Their conduct, the plight and opinion of the people suggest that whatever they did was far from service to the people, hence the desire to always rush back in. Having errand boys and stooges instead of walking the walk is the first sign of a lack of responsibility. Thus, anyone I see with this character, I dismiss from the start as a pungent egg.

In a nutshell, you goofed, however you looked at it. It was 1952. The picture was not in 1931, no Igbo was involved in that picture and the location was not Nigeria.

Well, it's for those with time on their hands essentially.
