However, another lawmaker, Mrs. Lola Akande, said the introduction of Chinese language was not a bad idea because China is the second largest economy in the world and also regarded as super power in terms of technology advancement.

What is this??

I am very sure this woman didn't train her children with yoruba language.. now she wants to enforce another foreign language plus English.
WHAT A SHAME!!

aribisala0: Your family might be insufferable but that is for you to sort out! You called people alata and that is extremism your sudden epiphany that I am not sticking to topic is a joke . I can choose what aspect of prior discussion I wish to talk about and have not anywhere talked about Your boyfriend Amosun
Have I argued with you about your Lord and Master Amosun anywhere on the thread.

Bottomline many people do not agree with you as is their right. Stop bullying or pontificating as if somehow making a political choice is some major cerebral breakthrough.

My point is simple you have an opinion which is not superior to others here so stop calling people ignorant because they disagree with you.
You think you have knowledge and others wallow in ignorance who do you think you are other that a conceited clown. You are no more knowledgeable than anyone

If saying you have a tendency to extremism is "throwing a blow" as you lament then you have a very fragile ego indeed
God bless you real good!

Odu-toda-iwa:
@Gbawe. The other guy on this Nairaland. a guy who claimed to know you said a close family member of yours is a political appointee of ACN is Osun state. If that is true, then I can only conclude that you are one disaster that happened to our democracy. You know, you cannot force ACN down anyone's throat. We all criticized Jonathan and of course we still not because he is non Yoruba but simply because the guy has failed to perform.

With 17 to 24 months after inauguration of most ACN governors in the South West. Their performances can only be described as disappointing. All these rubbish about Fashola delivered BRT and since Amosun now has BMT he is due for praises doesn't fly with me at all. If there is anything significant in that you claimed Amosun did. It is the 500 transformers. To think that a state government will boast of those poorly constructed street roads as achievement shows that yourself and Amosun are jokes.

Forget all the crazy things that Gbenga Daniel did in his second term. He was quite good in his first term. Remember Gbenga Daniel built several stadia in Ogun including the famous ijebu Ode stadium. He dualised lagos-Abeokuta express lane. built so many town roads as well as schools. What has SIA done with all mega billions from the federal allocations as well as 2Billion naira IGR monthly.

Deal with it. Some of us are loosing faith in the ACN because they have not lived up to expectations, even in Lagos my sincere feelings is that contracts are over inflated as per 1.5-3 Billion naira per Km of road. And in your own interest moderate your feelings about ACN stuffz. We did not vote for ACN because some see it as Yoruba party. Rather, we voted believing they will perform. If they fail to deliver. We'll kick them out!!!.
Gidigbam!!!

God bless you! This is my point exactly!

kettykin: I saw this coming years back and some igbos waved it off as usual vowing that they will fight to protect their property, My view of Lagos are as follows , igbos need to start divesting from Lagos back to the East and Niger Delta, any igbo building property inLagos will need to have his head properly examined.

The same way the North made the mistake of asking igbos to leave the north during the Hey days of BokoHaram and are paying dearly for it is the same way Lagosians will pay very Dearly when Igbos Leave Lagos em mass. The Economy of Lagos will crash under Exodus of Igbos as is witnessed during the Xmas vacation period. Any yoruba thinking Lagosians can withstand economically any move by igbos to leave this city must be high on drugs . What will become of Festac and Ojo where there are high concentration of igbos , this places will become dead zones with property price and rents crashing beyond redemption and with the Area becoming to sparse for human inhabitation.
What really is Lagos without the Buinesses owned by Igbos and the Economic weight igbos have brought to this city, Lagos will just decay like Ibadan ,Time will tell.
...but you do understand that you all have to leave first to appreciate all that you are touting about you.

inene: Let me just remind Fashola that that was how Hitler's hatred for the Jews started in Germany that ultimately led to the death of over six million Jews in the hands of the Germans. Profiling Nigerians under what evr guise is totally illegal and Fashola as a lawyer knows this. He is saying that anybody who is not able or fit should not live in Nigeria or that anybody who is unemployed should not live in Lagos. There is no argument that can make the deportation of NIgerians in Lagos justifiable. One can imagine what can happen if a man like Fashola is given a state POlice. He will use the resources of the state contributed by so called indegenes to arm his police force and probably levy war against the federation if he feels like it, after all in some cases wars are caused by the large egos of men. Fashola should retrace his steps and i wonder why the human rights community is ignoring this unconstututionality of a Governor who claims to belive in the rule of law. I am trully amzed at the travesty.
so what is new? You guys are jews so you should be accustomed to this manner of treatment.

Dudu_Negro: Nobody has violated any constitution my friend........people are simply disillusioned into believing that the gathering of non-consenting ethnic groups into a fraudulent coalition of pretentious sovereingty is a permanent and workable substitute for crossing or bridging customs and cultures.

The piece of composition ratified by non-consenting ethnic groups to serve as document of order and propriety for the native land is nothing but a sham.....it invokes more problems than it resolves grievance.

Dont blame the "effect"....curse the "cause". We are living an infatuation....a perpetual one for that matter the longer we continue to rest hope in a constitution as the harbinger of truth and the savior of our faulty gathering.

You might call them hypocrites but your president is dead stupid, rude, highly insensitive and utterly demented! How can he conclude that for any protest to be staged against his evil policies it would have to be sponsored by his opposition. It is a huge slap on the face of Nigerians to and more a blow to the families of those who died fighting for their rights to live and not have their avenues for their daily breads taken away from them. It is of no surprise to me though, after all this is the same nincompoop who said he does not give a damn what anyone thinks about his blatant refusal to declare his assets.

ndu_chucks: Do you want me to sight provisions which prevents the government from restricting the movement of your legitimate goods freely throughout the land? Please understand that I am not from anyone detroying people's properties without facing certain repercussions. Lets enforce the laws which prevent the wanton destruction of properties first before announcing this foolish and illegal rule.

People should also learn to protect their properties with barbed wires and the like. How would you like me and my people to suddenly claim that the Benin/Ore road which you've been using for decades belong to us, hence we'll ban you from driving your cars through the road? ehn, da mi lohun.
You would also have to look into the constitutional definition. Livestock might not be permitted as goods. This is technical and if the constitution must be followed it has to be followed completely. I think you'd struggle to find a section in the constitution where livestock is accepted as goods. If I am wrong, then prove me so by uploading that section that pertains to goods.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Calls For The Abolition Of The Senate by Desola(f): 9:52pm On Sep 20, 2012
ekt_bear: Anyway, back to the topic of the initial post...is Tinubu correct?

In the US, the initial purpose of the senate was to serve as a counterbalance to the house of representatives. So that the voice of small states like Wyoming will not be overwhelmed by populous states like Illinois.

Is this actually appropriate for a regionalistic sort of Nigeria? Probably not...the lines of tensions are not small, less populated states complaining about political domination from more populous ones. But more South vs. North, oil-producing states vs. non-oil producing, Igbos complaining about marginalization, various groups wanting true federalism, etc.

So, are there other good reasons to have 2 legislatures? Reasons strong enough to outweigh the redundancy and increased cost?

In my personal opinion, no.

So, Tinubu is correct in making this call.
I think you'll find that not many people disagreed with his call but most were looking into the real implementation of his suggestion.

personally, I don't think we should do away with the senate but to overhaul our governmental structure. Not be removing but restructuring our core values and governance as a whole. The problem is not the institution but the people who run the institution.

PointB: lol. Which Igboman is into the NL pseudo-intellectual bull-crap. Let me laugh in intellectual.

Guy, the real reason why there are alot of Igbo in Lagos is simply because, after the civil war, Igboland economy was mostly destroyed. To survive and thrive you have to look for opportunities elsewhere. Incidentally, the means (economical, scholarly, etc) seemed concentrated in Lagos (the then capital) of Nigeria. As Nigerian, here we are! As soon as Nigeria ceases to be, we will consider going back. Until, then we are eagerly looking forward to the operation of the Ibadan-Lagos rail-line. It will further our inroad into the biggest city in SW.

We have nevertheless rebuilt our homeland, and are still rebuilding. I guess you have seen the Enugu Thread. Peter Obi has done really well for Anambra state, and Rochas is receiving rave review. Depending on whether you see Amaechi as Igbo or not you can pass your judgement.

On political front, no ethnic group has fared any better than the SE, unless you count coup plotting, and electoral fraud as acme of political sagacity! Besides, never lose sight of the fact that 'individualistic' SE'ners gave GEJ block votes! You need to think again, lest you rest on your oars, reveling in your phyric victory!
