PoliticsRe: Yoruba Vs Igbo Cat Fights: Are You Tired Of Them? by Desola(f): 12:51pm On Aug 28, 2012
PointB: According to Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribalism

While not making any excuses for the promoter or the pratice, I simply want to understand what is wrong with Tribalism in the context of a country like Nigeria, where the basis for nationhood is not discussed. Rather it is considered a taboo!

Maybe we should go further and identify 'groups' who practice 'Tribalism' as a way of life in Nigeria, with the aim of identifying its merits and demerit. Standing in your corner and screaming that Seun should warn tribalists, stands on it it's head in logic.

To deal with Tribalism, we must all agree it is wrong. Until that is done, tribalism which seeks to understand the various ethnic groups, with the objective of building a nation out of them, is NOT wrong. Hate campaign and mongering, which is the dark effect of tribalism, is what we should campaign against.

Until SNC, tribalism stay with us.
Tribalism is NOT WRONG!!!!

sheyguy: The OP would av made a lot more sense if he had admitted folks on NL tend to take on the Yoruba race and abuse them and their culture anytime they come accross posts they feel are aimed at Igbos one way or the other more than it does the other way round. I used the example of Igbos going after percieved Yorubas cos 95% of such attack between Igbos and Yorubas originates from what we av come to know as Igbo ID on Politics section, NL.
My 2 cents is - Yoruba is not the opposite of Igbo, they don't even share common border or boundary and, don't have nothing in common but Nigeria and survival struggle.
ibo, not igbo. Igbo is weed.

Akiika: @Afam4eva and @Desola, are you guys for real? must you bicker ignorantly? neither of you have any verifiable proof to back up your claim so zip it!
@Dede1, pls. think before you hit the keyboard, you're simply not objective. You arguements are always sentimental rather than logical.
You either make your point and supply proof to back it up or your shut your trap hole.

Just keep moving...
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Bow-Greeting Buhari (Picture): Slavery Or Respect? by Desola(f): 7:34pm On Aug 26, 2012
PhysicsQED: Where I'm from, people will kneel on both knees when they greet someone superior in status and/or age, though I've seen instances where people will go on one knee if it's a relative, or where if it's a female, she'll do a kind of curtsey if she's wearing a dress and doesn't want to touch it to the ground. This is what I've seen every time I've been back to Nigeria and it's what I saw as a kid. I don't remember seeing bowing
though. I didn't know any Nigerians bow, but now I know.
Hogwash!

Onlytruth: I wonder where all the so called "Niger deltans" are now. They won't show up now. The more they avoid direct confrontation with the North over things like this, the more I think that Ndigbo should support the North in them, because we should not fight their wars for them, especially as some of them would rather fight Igbo than aboki.

I hope that Ohanaeze will stay away from this until we know who to support for sure.
lol...seriously, you are a clown!

How generous of you. He deserves nothing but -50%!

The worst leader to be ever foisted upon the sane people by a dumb and clueless feudal majority!

gfay: Desola; your yoruba and Afam is Ibo, I am yoruba but I lean towards Afam's disposition, Some ibo's know about the Yoruba origin than the Yoruba's themselves just cos your yoruba doesn't make you more knowledgeable, There's a political consensus that there are more muslims than christians in Nigeria as with population but we all know it's not true and I beg to differ that there are more muslim yoruba's than christians..
You can differ all you like - it's your human right.

Not so sure about that. Tinubu, though would get some work done, would corner a lot of Nigeria's wealth. I don't trust him.
PoliticsRe: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by Desola(f): 2:39pm On Aug 24, 2012
afam4eva: I guess you saying that Yoruba Muslims are more than the Christians are not trying to put the Yorubas at loggerheads abi? But when i say the opposite then i'm a war monger.

The fact that you're Yoruba doesn't make you more knowledgeable about Yorubaland more than me because i've lived here most of my life and have traveled throughout the south-west and i can conclude that if anything, the Christians are more. But i just said it's 50-50 just to be fair. If you can provide proof to dispell my assertion the we'll have to agree to disagree.
That you've lived all your life in Yorubaland and travelled extensively within it does not make you know didly squat! You might know a bit through research but you didn't live it as a Yoruba. There are some core values which are invested in us as Yorubas that you, no matter how much you rub shoulders with us or even marry into our tradition that can never be prof-erred upon you. Aside that, there is travelling and there is living it. You, have only lived your life as an ibo man in the west but not as a Yoruba man. The different is stark.
PoliticsRe: Can Tinubu And Muhammadu Buhari Save Nigeria? by Desola(f): 2:32pm On Aug 24, 2012
Buhari minus Tinubu, possibly.
PoliticsRe: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by Desola(f): 2:27pm On Aug 24, 2012
afam4eva: I don't have to be Yoruba. I live in lagos and have Yoruba friends, so you can come and tell me that Muslims are the majority in Yorubaland. At least there's no census to support your claim. That's the reason i left it at 50-50.
You've attempted this in the past, trying to put Yorubas at loggerheads as to which religion has the majority over the other but it didn't work.

The point with you migrants is that you visit one Yoruba state and conclude that you've seen it all. Lagos, as i've warned you long ago, is not the yardstick for religious representation. Reason being that we have a lot of you migrants there too who come from your enclaves to build churches due to the rights granted you by the Nigerian constitution. Go to other states within Yorubaland and carry out an emperical research and come back to relay your findings. My own assertion is based on origin and first hand experience. Yours is based on sight only.
PoliticsRe: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by Desola(f): 2:17pm On Aug 24, 2012
afam4eva: You have a point there. But about Islam being the majority religion, i beg to disagree.
Rebut my claim, then.

Are you Yoruba?
PoliticsRe: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by Desola(f): 2:16pm On Aug 24, 2012
Geomac: I think Yoruba are generally like that, even here in the North they live peacefully with their neighbours regardless of your religion.
probably because we were already civilised and secure as a people before the invasion of the colonial masters who brought their own brand of religion.

We had our deities, our own brands of religion which were revered and which worked for us. It's like the Hindus, really. Despite the invasion of the west, their religion is still waxing strong because their religion predate colonialism and was already deeply entrenched in the people's psyche.
PoliticsRe: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by Desola(f): 2:09pm On Aug 24, 2012
afam4eva: I don't think so. I just feel that they have no choice to tolerate one another because the population of Christians and Muslims are sort of like 50-50. It could have been a different case if one religion was a majority and the other minority just like it is in Northern Nigeria.
Not true! Islam is still the majority religion in the west and a lot of us were born into muslim families before converting to christianity. Also, there are the traditionalists who though have become minorities; are still highly respected and still maintain a strong foundation of our roots as Yorubas. Most Yorubas have 'Ifa', 'Osun', 'Ogun', 'Awo', 'Esu' prefixes in their surnames to identify their family background but are non the less muslims or christians. We are just too intertwined to start looking myopically at religion as our identity. If anything, we would look toward our traditional roots and that is part of what makes us unique and the security to embrace others into our folds because despite the new age religions, we still know where we hail from and pay homage to our roots.

Mr. Globe:
Fifthly it was the lie that Gowon and the northern leaders fed to Awolowo that he would be made President of the country after the war and after being effectively being made de facto Prime Minister under Gowon during the war that got Awoloo to support them.
grin grin grin

That is the history there. No propaganda can change that. Just like Yoruba people will never be taking seriously in the committee of nations.

God bless Femi Kani-Kayode!!! I call the moderators to now lock this thread!

PoliticsRe: Ojukwu Killed Lt. Col. Banjo: Why? I Need to get to the root of this matter... by Desola(f): 12:07pm On Aug 15, 2012
One_Naira: Who gives a F2K ABOUT AWOLOWO OR BANJO. You are talking to the wrong person on this thread. Name how many times I've gotten involved with whther Awolowo betrayed Igbos. I careless or give a f2k whether Awolowo betrayed Igbos or not, the man is a pig burning in Hell and far as I'm concerned whatever stanch he took in Biafra war is on him and him alone. Look for the next person to give you people the attention you people desperately seek. I'm not one of the those people that do so.

BTW: Keep peddling the lies that your people somehow providing evidence to support your assertions. Changing a topic and moving it off tracks isn't evidence but what it is: changing a topic to something completely irrelevant. If we go back to the kayode thread, that alone proves it. Noone addressed main topic of the conversation but instead changing the direction of the thread to a topic completely out of what kayode said. Keep telling yourselves that as long as it put una to sleep.
Fine!

Answer me this: Why do you think he's burning in hell? You don't care if he betrayed ibos or not but you believe that he is burning in hell, why?

PoliticsRe: Ojukwu Killed Lt. Col. Banjo: Why? I Need to get to the root of this matter... by Desola(f): 11:35am On Aug 15, 2012
Come on! Lay your sentiments aside and see the validity of his question. He asked a very relevant question and you know it except that as an ibo man, you would not admit it because its truth would contradict your song of Awo is a betrayer.

We have asked you on numerous occassions to support your assertions of Awo being a betrayer and coward with solid evidence of an expressed agreement between him and ojukwu that Yorubas would enjoin the ibos in their secession bid but till current, no such proof has been forth coming.

A bulk of assertions made on this forum by the Yorubas with regard to the civil war has been supported with documentary evidence, either from excerpts from books from recognised sources or with internet links for veracity.

Now, the fellow asked a decent and in my opinion, vital question and in shame, you are seeking to avoid it by throwing semantics and your usual emotional blackmail at a simple question.

Surely, you know what it means to be a betrayer and that is why you deem Awolowo one, so why not with your knowledge and expertise at fishing out cowards and betrayers explain to us why your colonel chose a Yoruba man to lead his army against his own people? Do you call Banjo's acceptance as an act of betrayal against his people or is it not betrayal only when it suits the ibo agenda?

I'm just asking.

One_Naira: A simple google search or rather yet read hollabee01 post would provide the answer. WE ALL KNOW YOU CYBERG, You are a tribalistic fool that does nothing but try and start a fight on a Goddamn internet as if you have no life plus joining in every argument and I mean every single argument, screaming and shouting without actually giving any form of relevance to the conversation hence the reason noone takes you seriously. Anyone foolish enough to fall for your sh1t is as 1diotic as you are and he or she should carry your headache by himself or herself. because ibos with their inferiority complex need to be noticed or die. They make it all about them and rightly, they are the bane of our headache in this nation. They brought us where we are today! It is only right that they get the trashing they deserve.
