kilokeys:WoW!! would love to go there someday!...Let's see if this can happen to our slums too! |
kilokeys:Let's hope some grateful individual can push this to the world! |
Solidkay:Man! If anyone wants to be inspired! Here is the place to go! |
wroskian:Yaaaay!!...Boss! Where have you been? Yes Seriously! I was amazed when I learned this as well. Amazing life they live in Ilaje. At less than a dollar a day, they strive so hard to live within their means. They are amazing people, trust me! They only need help and empowerment. |
I saw a couple of wastes here and there, which was predominantly dominated by top brands in Nigeria. Bottles of drinks, purewater, sanitary pads, and all sorts muddled together to form the terrible and stinking environment where they live. If the FMCG’s are looking for where to channel their Corporate Social Responsibility to, it is in the Ilaje Community. Away from all the fashion shows, beauty pageants and ‘show-off’ on TV. Ilaje is the real deal. http://deedeesblog.com/2016/09/13/my-amazing-ilaje-story-life-in-lagos-slum/

My Conclusion It is very pertinent that the government should move its arm of support into these communities. Empowerment is very key and massive sanitary lectures should be given to these people, to incite them on the act of cleanliness in all ramifications. The earlier research I saw online showed that the government was looking at resettling the Ilaje people, which to me is even not feasible in the near time. To this end, it would be important to support the community in whatever capacity they can. Enough of the media hullabaloo of empowerment we see on TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3yGTX15ZlM

Apart from the various shanties that you would see on the bank of the lagoon, most of the people in the community live in huts made of planks, bamboo on the lagoon. I also noticed that many of the people were mainly Egun. Ilaje is an area in Lagos where the poorest poor reside; from an environment laden with filth and excreta to houses with open bathroom. The community is surely laden with poverty at the end; illiteracy, filth and other social ills. The amazing part about Ilaje is that there has been no story of an pandemic/endemic and that the community boast of the best portable water which was said to have drawn out from the same brackish lagoon water. We also observed that a lot of Non-governmental organizations have come to impact the people positively in terms of food, education and health facilities. However, it seemed from my view and what you would see that these were never enough. They need more support, right. The interview with in the soon to be released video has a lot of young minds that are very ready to work and are skilled one way or the other. Can you imagine, I met with producers, mobile phone engineers, fashion designers in Ilaje. On my discussion with them, I realized the need for these guys to be empowered! The video would be dropping soon! It is amazing!

Brief on Ilaje Community Ilaje is a sprawling slum located along the Bariga axis in Lagos, situated by the Lagoon. As you move closer to the settlement , you would immediately begin to see wooden houses constructed on that brackish water of Lagos lagoon. You would also notice an environment so dirty that you would think it’s not fit for anyone to reside. But then, people live here even happily. As you move into the community, you would begin to see both the young and old wander about, some aimlessly, and some with intentions, work or business as the case is.

I spoke with some brands on Instagram, and they supported with the basics we can afford and moved into this community. If you don’t want to be inspired and be charged, please don’t scroll down. However if you really want to! Then this is the page for you!

After the Makoko trip, I saw a kind of beauty that only a photographer would see and also the need in the slums, so I decided to plan the second trip to Ilaje Community in Lagos State. I noticed how people around my area (which is not only limited to my area alone) argue day in and out about the dwindling economy and socio-political landscape. Fuel, Electricity and the price of Tomato. Now there is recession, I figured that the timing has never been better in dropping this post! Yaaay!
|
1. Some people make money from this recession and keep it for their future unborn generation - Selfish!! 2. Some people do not make enough and so are limited within their means - Wishes are horses 3. Some people dream of making enough to help others - Maybe you? 4. Some people barely make enough yet try as much as possible to assist based on their capabilities - Maybe you too! Whichever category you fall into. The pictures below is an attempt to sing the song of those who fall in the second category. They are limited within their means, and so, they can only 'wish' to have enough to cater for the basic means of life. This photoBlogger embarked on a journey into the places where these people make domain, in order to portray how they live their lives. He uses the instrument he has, 'The Camera' to beam light on these places, so the world can see, what really these guys are going through. This is the timelines of one of his trips into the slum of Ilaje, Bariga..Lagos State https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt3SKRxCl_Y |
I hope I have inspired someone today, now is your turn to inspire as well. Do me a favour, share this with your friends. We can always make this get to the right places, can't we? http://deedeesblog.com/2016/09/13/my-amazing-ilaje-story-life-in-lagos-slum/

I keep saying it all the time, 90% percent of the Nigerian babes on Facebook are very gullible and naiive. This is not the first story and it won't be the last. Seven babes in this same Lagos? and they will be forming sharp girls 'uppandan'. Try post a picture of you with dollar bills and see the barrage of friends request you will get from girls. You want to collect $1000 for a day job! You try! 'The hunter became the hunted' Una never learn bah? That was how one was asking me how much was in my bank account the other day. Ode! |

So today I uploaded a short Intro Video into the trip at the Ilaje Community around the Bariga axis of Lagos State. CrazyQuinn:Very close to mine! I guess some of us are sensitive to touch though! |
I read a story somewhere online about a lady complaining that her boyfriend hasn’t bought anything for her in the space of one year they started dating and that it is worrisome, giving her a second thoughts about her decision to be married to this guy. I read some people’s opinion on the same story: some said does he have to buy her gifts to feel loved? What if he has been giving her something else of substance like his time and services? and that gifts are not a true measure of love. Hmmm, that’s where I think they got it wrong. I personally would be bothered if I’m in the lady’s shoe too because I can’t imagine dating a guy for three months and I won’t be able to state exactly what he has gotten for me during that three months we have been together. This is not about being materialistic, it is a measure of how I feel loved. Gifts don’t have to be something big. It could be the simplest things and yet very valuable to the your partner. A recharge card can mean a lot. Just little here and there to show you care about him/her.I know some people don’t care about gifts, infact I’m sure some ladies out there might not complain if they are the ones in the lady’s shoes (though I doubt if such ladies exist), but it is very possible because their love languages might be very different. It could be act of service, just do things for them, help them out when they need hands on deck and they will keep loving you till thy kingdom come. What matters to individuals are different. What I like and cherish might mean nothing to you. This is why it is very important you understand your partner’s love language. There guy could have provided other alternatives in being caring than buying gifts. He may prefer acts of service and attention to other stuffs. But I beg to disagree, how can you love someone without gifting her things? I don’t think you can separate gifts from love or love from gifts. It is very possible to give gifts without love but it not possible to love without giving. And giving is in a lot of means, not necessarily materials only. That’s why it paramount to understand your partner in order to avoid leaving one unfulfilled. We have five different love languages and almost 99% of people exhibit all this five different love languages. Their level of importance is just very different to people. I might exhibit 90% of quality time while maybe I exhibit just 2% of physical touch and maybe someone out there prefers physical touch to act of service. You dig? I will explain just few things about the five love language. 1. Word of affirmation: These are spoken words you say regularly to your partner. Your partner might be the one who thrives on compliment. People in this category feel loved more when they are being showered words of affirmation. Verbal compliments, or words of appreciation, are powerful communicators of love. They are best expressed in simple, straightforward statements of affirmation, such as: “You look beautiful”, “you are the most honest, hardworking young man I have ever met”. They feel good and loved. 2. Quality time: Quality time can also be termed “attention”. By “quality time,” I mean giving someone your undivided attention. Don’t be surprised if your man/woman always wants you around. Just to shower him/her with all the attention you can give. Giving such person a gift won’t quantify for the time she/he wants to spend with you or all the attention she/he would have loved. If your mate’s primary love language is quality time, she simply wants you to spend more time with her. 3. Receiving gifts: Like I wrote earlier, you can hardly love without giving. Almost everything ever written about love indicates that at the heart of love is the spirit of giving. A gift is something you can hold in your hand and say, “Look, he was thinking of me,” or, “She remembered me.” You must be thinking of someone to give him or her a gift. The gift itself is a symbol of that thought. It doesn’t matter whether it costs a lot or a litte. What is important is that you thought of him or her. It is not the thought implanted only in the mind that counts but the thought expressed in actually securing the gift and giving it as the expression of love. What of the person who says, “I’m not a gift giver. I didn’t receive many gifts growing up. I never learned how to select gifts. It doesn’t come naturally to me.” Congratulations, you have just made the first discovery in becoming a great lover. You and your spouse speak different love languages. Now that you have made that discovery, get on with the business of learning your second language. If your spouse’s primary love language is receiving gifts, you can become a proficient gift giver. In fact, it is one of the easiest love languages to learn. 4. Act of Service: This might be your partner’s primary love language. If you notice your spouse appreciates you more when you do something for them, like help in moving some stuff or help with office work, give solid help in the kitchen or around the house. When you notice he/she swoons with love when this happens than all the gifts or attention or affirmation, then you should know you just struck a chord in her. Consider actions such as cooking a meal, setting a table, emptying the dishwasher, changing the baby’s diaper, keeping the car in operating condition — they are all acts of service. They require thought, planning, time, effort and energy. If done with a positive spirit, they are indeed expressions of love. 5. Physical touch: This is a delicate method of showing love. We all know touching can go a long way in expressing love. For some individuals, physical touch is the language they understand and without it they feel unloved. Physical touch includes kissing, lovemaking, touching and all sorts. But just like every other love language, it requires self discipline. Your spouse may show all the five love languages. But there is always a primary love language. She/he might appreciate when you help her/him out(act of service) or when you get her/he gifts(receiving gifts) or always reassuring he/she with nice endearing words(words of affection) or when you spend the whole day with him/her, giving total attention but she/he will appreciate you more when you give him/her physical touch. Everything done in excess always turns out bad. I admonish self discipline when handling love languages with our spouse. Communication and understanding is very important to a successful relationship. Your partner might not be used to certain qualities, maybe giving or touching or act of service or attention, you have got to be patient while you allow them to grow with you. Let me ask you, What is your love language? or should I tell you mine? http://deedeesblog.com/2016/08/30/what-your-love-language/

jennyidem:Hmmmn......Hmmn! Okay so you term love to be the extent of excitement you can both attract in your relationship... Nice point, very valid. Unfortunately most people do not put so much objectivity to love. They look at just feelings alone. |
kilokeys:hmmmn.... a contract? I love that part! |
Love is amazing when everything is right. But what happens when the excitement associated with love is gone. What do you do when the initial gra gra phase has passed? Time is never enough when you are with someone you love, you become hyperactive no matter the stress you went through during the day when the love is burning fire and brimstone. Love is beautiful and no better adjective would match what you feel for your loved one. You just want to go round and round with them, love them till eternity and come back again with them. It is that wonderful! But what happens when the excitement fizzles out? What happens when you don’t always feel hyperactive seeing them after a long day at work? Or you hardly want to hang out now. The feelings that you were overwhelmed with has subsided. You could almost choke at the amount of words you want to express at once then but now can’t even find one or more words to eulogise the one you love. What happens when the fire is burning but with no visible flame. All it looks like is smoke choking your nostril. We all have to know, the butterfly feeling we all get at the beginning of the relationship might not always be there. Don’t get me wrong, definitely your love is still there, in fact waxing stronger if carefully managed but I’m saying the excitement you felt at the early stage might not be there anymore. That’s why counsellors advise not to marry based only on what you think you felt. The time will come when you would struggle hard to feel this “thing”. That brings my question. What do you do when the excitement is gone? A lot of things might be attributed to why the excitement is down or reduced. A lot of factors can be responsible. Now it is very paramount not to abscond at that moment you don’t feel anything anymore. Take your time to check out what is probably causing that, carefully study yourself and your partner and when you are sure you can pin point why or why not, sit your partner down and dialogue. I always insist communication is key to every successful relationship. Then take visible actions concerning that. You can’t always turn down a relationship just because you feel that feelings have gone a little bit cold. More reason loved ones turn ex loved one. What happened to all the proclaimed love? When the deed is done you don’t cut the fingers, you rather throw away the knife. Give it time to grow again. Don’t be quick to condemn a relationship and jump out as fast as you jumped in. You would only discover your next relationship would be like that. Rekindle the love! Do you still remember those things you did when the passion was on full throttle? You probably need to check yourself too. What exactly are you looking for? Why the sudden attitude or feeling? If you must be sincere to yourself I’m sure you will have the answer. Don’t break up a relationship because you are not getting the excitement you got from onset. I do agree you deserve to feel certain excitement to some degree. You can only do better if you consider the problem and find a suitable solution to it rather than just shy away from responsibility and make everything more down and cold. If not carefully managed, you would just be passing unnecessary vibes round your loved one. Love and loving is not that simple. It requires constant effort to maintain it. Don’t stop doing the things that got you guys attracted to each other in the first place. As important as it is to not let go of a relationship easily, it is also important to discern when a relationship is technically over. You have got to know time to let go and not hold on to a futile relationship. You have got to learn when love is over, when to carry on.When truly your relationship is not just passing through the phase of feelings quietened down but when it has totally shut down. I wish you good luck. http://deedeesblog.com/2016/08/26/excitement-comes-love-gone/ |
