...and does he identify as American? shogsman: |
Please don't compare them to Nigeria. They have systems and government policies that will compensate for all these loses. There are support systems to indemnify them.. It's this mentality that will make a crooked local Govt chairman spray taxpayers' money at owanbes instead of mobilizing funds to clear drainages!!! grandlexuz: |
How many times have you seen any of these leaders on a BRT bus? In what ways has this gigantic monumental celebrated but overrated $70million edifice contributed POSITIVELY to the lives of citizens in the state? If you're embarking on such a massive project, shouldn't the impact be equally colossal economically? The average Lagosian sinks further into poverty by the day and some illiterates and psychophants will come here to celebrate this mediocrity? Some are even tribalizing this and saying at least the 'statue' in my state is bigger than yours. Jeez! |
Lagos is congested and a sensible technocrat will look to decongest the city of road transportation. But these backward-thinking old men invested the state's funds in a bus interchange and people are clapping because "the thing looks beautiful like abroad ooo" and not because it's a SOLUTION in the horizon. Is it about building this tower of Babel or about giving the people effective, modern transportation options like rails, trams, ferries etc. to make Lagosians' lives better? The people of this country have become so deprived that even when you build them a statue of yourself (with no direct impact on their wellbeing and the economy of the state), they will clap for you and say "at least you have done something". This mentality is not progressive unfortunately |

Famousblogng:It didn't die from swallowing a pregnant goat!!! That snake would have swallowed even the size of that boy wrapping it around his neck and wouldn't have died from suffocation. Let's watch more of NAT Geo Wild for the kind of education on nature we won't possibly get from the four walls of a school (not to talk of our disgrace of an educational system/structure) Anyways, these snakes only become vulnerable during swallowing their meals (could take about 45 minutes to over 1hr depending on the size) and during digestion (which could take weeks). During these times, they are weak, docile and susceptible to attacks. It's just like putting a man who just finished 10 wraps of fufu, Nkwobi and 5 bottles of Gulder in an 800 metre race. This snake was killed either while swallowing the goat, or when digesting it. |
So I'm a certified Recruitment Consultant. First off, the venue of the interview is a public place and several 'official' meetings hold at the lounge. When all you know is Nigeria you'd always associate hotels to prostitution ![]() Secondly, they didn't say they'll be forcing you take their drink (most people responding here only understand Nigerian English, not proper English ). Read it again. It's just saying out of sheer courtesy that you could take a nonalcoholic drink on them while at the lounge!. It could be a test of your table manners, but I doubt it is.Thirdly, a number was included in the SMS sent to you - that at least is one evidence to track in case of any hanky panky! You could also just check out the number on Truecaller to see if the name sent corresponds with the number. Lastly, an astute job seeker can easily track where he/she sends an application. So if someone calls you out of the blue and you're certain you didn't send an application to them, then ask questions ---- Thanks for considering my candidature for this role. I am not sure I sent in a direct application, do you mind letting me know how you got my contact details? By the way, I always want to read up about the organization I'm being interviewed for, what's your website please? If you're still fearful after reading this, then you can ask your daddy and mummy to follow you ![]() |
Mediocrity being celebrated again as usual! Is it a good thing to reward teachers who are the source and foundation of education? Yes! Is it a good thing to reward only 13 teachers in the entirety of Lagos state? No! What process was used? We don't know! Was it transparent and open to all? I noticed that all the names were Yoruba names...I am not trying to be tribalistic (I am Yoruba) but can we confidently say that teachers from other tribes in Lagos are not performing? Is a car the best reward? I will say 'No' but if we say 'Yes', why didn't the government do a car loan scheme and open to a larger pool? Was it not recently that someone in this same government was publicly advising Lagosians to use BRT buses (mind you, none of these government officials use the buses)? Is this another show off by people in government office? Yes! Is this politics? Capital YES! You see, Nigerians have been so starved of good governance that they don't even know what is expected of their leaders. Once anyone throws meatpie service at them, they start to beat their drums. So sad! |
Over 80% of responses here were reactions without proper understanding. Some did not even read half of the story but reacted based on the reaction of another person who only read the heading...kai ![]() It's sad because this is the same trend on all other social platforms...Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. You can see that the average Nigerian is devoid of proper critical thinking. Very sad indeed... |
I'm sorry, but what exactly are they paying for? I saw some people on this thread saying they're expectant, please what service have you rendered? In all honesty, I want to know what this 774,000 program is about, who were those selected, how were they selected, what service have they rendered under the program ![]() Same way someone was telling me about the racketeering going on with the Covid-19 stimulus thing. The people in charge will just sit in an office, create fake names or add the names of their family members just to siphon funds monthly. The person lamenting to me was a Christian sister; she was bitter that they didn't include her name in the fraud scheme so she could be getting free cash! The people at the top created a senseless scheme to alleviate poverty; no thorough process, no transparency or accountability...the few masses who have connection get registered under the scheme somehow and get the money for doing NOTHING and are happy..774,000 out of 200million people (0.3% of the population)...so sad!! The problem of Nigeria is not just bad leadership, but also include grave illiteracy, selfishness and rife unaccountability! |
Sheer mediocrity!!! How should this make headlines in a state they say is a mega city Look at all the agbadas flowing...look at all the pageantry because they want to commission one fire-fighting truck. They will budget 27million for a project of N8million and use N45million to commission it. It's the way of our leaders in this country Please look at all the people around them opening teeth as if they have seen ghosts. This is why these old men always think in their minds that their leadership is doing us a favour!! See how they are being celebrated like superstars for doing what they were elected to do in the first place with taxpayers money...show-off instead of service! What a shame!!! |
Wise advice! Thank you NoToPile: |
Yes, I am in the category of those who get above 12hrs power daily...but the times they supply the power daily are erratic so I CAN'T plan properly and say everyday I will switch off my freezer at 12pm for instance...they bring the light anyhow, but you can sum up daily and see that it's over 12hrs. dmg1: |
SUPERPACK:This is a very logical advice, but how do I do this when we all go to work? How do I do this when I don't know when there will be actual power supply to get the devices to freezing point. This is how we have successfully preserved food, stew, butter and other edibles. I can't risk this on and off thing with beans for instance. Thanks for the valid advice though. |
Please I need the advice of Nairalanders especially from those with practical experience. I want to know if to continue with estimated billing or just go for a pre-paid meter (under Ikeja Electric). Lately, my bill in a month has been between N22,000 and N28,000. I complained and they got back to me to initiate a pre-paid meter processing. Now that the processing has commenced, I am contemplating whether to stick with the estimated billing or go on with procuring the prepaid meter (even though I think the proper thing is the pre-paid meter option) So these are the appliances in my house - Deep freezer ------------------------------------- (always on) - Fridge with freezer ------------------------------ (always on) - Inverter with 2 batteries, 150AH each ---------- (always on) - Water dispenser --------------------------------- (always on) - 2 Ceiling fans ------------------------------------ (on from 7pm on weekdays and as needed on weekends) - 35inch TV ---------------------------------------- (on for an average of 8 hours daily) - DSTV --------------------------------------------- (on for an average of 8 hours daily) - One standing fan, about 40 WATTS ------------- (on for an average of 8 hours daily) - AC 1HP ------------------------------------------- (on from 7pm on weekdays and as needed on weekends) - AC 2HP ------------------------------------------- (on from 7pm on weekdays and as needed on weekends) - Automatic washing machine -------------------- (used for an average of 3hrs running time every day; kids' clothes are always dirty) - Boiling kettle ------------------------------------ (used for an average of 1hr everyday for bathing in the mornings and evenings) - 7 energy saving bulbs, the highest WATT is 24 - (on for about 7 hrs in a day; 3 hrs in the mornings and 4 hrs in the evenings) - Ironing ------------------------------------------------ (an average of 2 hours for the whole week) Note: Putting any device 'on' or using them for the number of hours stated above is a function of power availability. Also some of the devices have varying hours because there are days I work from home and would need some appliances on e.g. the 40 WATTS standing fan So objectively, based on the estimated usage of the appliances listed above (please pay close attention to the usage hrs/days/weeks), should I continue to pay between N22 and N28k monthly on estimated billing OR going for a pre-paid meter would come cheaper? Please I need those with experience to advice me pls Like for me to continue on estimated billing Share for me to switch to prepaid Reply to add your reasons @Seun, please can you add polling functionality to Nairaland. Thank yo Sir! |
Some are always on the look out for anyone or anything that validates their lifestyle of immorality... Note 1. No one is perfect, but gloating in sinful acts is what actually destroys. It will lead to a reprobate mind that tells you (in this case) that you have a freedom of expression, association and sexual orientation..disregarding what the Almighty stipulates. Actually, if you're reading this, it doesn't count if you do not believe that He even exists! 2. I laugh at those using the case of Jesus and the adulteress to justify this. If you believe in the Bible that you so quote, then remember first that the devil at a point came to Jesus and quoted the words in this same Bible to justify his evil intent. It's one of the biggest tricks in his book. Then back to the adulteress' story, true Jesus did not condemn her but He didn't condone the act either. Did you notice that He ended by saying "... go and sin no more"? 3. The order of nature as put in place by the infinite wisdom of the Almighty God is for man and woman to procreate.. it was not given to us by science! When there is no natural creation therefore, we embrace alteration (courtesy of man's science. I am a believer of science by the way - - - but like fire, it is a neutral element that can be used for good, or evil). Being a gay, lesbian or bisexual is NOT natural, but because the world has put that system in the society in the name of freedom of sexuality, innocent children become EXPOSED at some stage of their lives to this grave immorality and begin to say.. "well I'm attracted to only people of my gender." Let's not forget that every child's heart is like a clean slate, but the society writes about 70% of its content. So if you're reading this as a gay or lesbian (and opened this thread to get validation), God Loves you but will not condone your sexual orientation because it is against His natural order of procreation. Don't be fooled by the number of people here justifying this immorality. Trace the history of your exposure to this evil and speak to God [in your closet] to help you overcome it (notice that I said God and not a pastor). I know one person will be blessed by this in Jesus' name, AMEN! |
What if it was a toy bat? Why are we so superstitious in this country? |
I once had a very scary moment in Nice, France. Went mountain climbing/hiking with in-laws and almost died! Honestly, the thing is not a black man's thingy (not to say that others don't fall off too)...but one wrong step in the name of adventure could be your last! |

Government making life harder for Lagosians in the name of road construction... There's a trap now set for unsuspecting drivers plying that route https://www.nairaland.com/6289221/daylight-fraud-3rd-mainland-bridge#96603926 |
My grouse is with the Lagos State Government hiring touts, miscreants and thugs as Local Government Officials. And they will keep deceiving How will you close roads (in the name of construction) and make life a living hell for the people?? Who are you constructing the road for? Mind you @Mr. Sanwo-Olu, you are not doing us a favour by ordering repair works, because you people will soon throw party and publish in the papers roads that you've constructed - ordinarily, what should have been your direct obligations to the people! When you kill the people with stress before you finish constructing these roads, who will ply them? No iota of care whatsoever about what the people are going through. Not even a monthly or quarterly speech from the Governor on the 3rd Mainland bridge works to even show that he's concerned. Did anyone see the traffic at Ojota last Saturday? It was hellish!! No notice whatsoever; the stretch of works was over 3 to 4km. I was in the traffic for over 2 hours and kept wondering why they couldn't limit works to just late nights; why they didn't even communicate it for people to find alternative routes. Funny enough, Google Maps are sometimes not up to date on those construction works. It's when you get there physically that you will what exactly is going on, at times, too late to turn! Governor Pontius Pilate, control your |
There is a big fraud scheme going on the third Mainland bridge in Lagos because of the ongoing construction work there. My father-in-law fell victim last week and this is the simple story. Drivers plying that route, please beware!!! Construction on the second side of the bridge started about last week, which meant that you couldn't drive straight to Obalende/Victoria Island from Adekunle bus-stop. However if you found yourself there (Adekunle), a diversion was created on the Oworo side where you could make a u-turn under the bridge and turn to the other side thereby joining the bridge to Obalende/Victoria Island. Since the construction started generally, people have had to endure manic traffic daily arising not just from the closure of the bridge itself, but other adjoining roads without any warning about the closure of those roads (you'll just wake up to realize your street has been cordoned off), nor the provision of alternative routes. As it is in their nature, the government has just left people to sort out themselves and find their way anyhow. Back to the story, the diversion under the bridge (a small gate leading to the other side) was opened since Monday and you needed to see the mad traffic, but people still endured. This particular road had been in the news before now for many wrong reasons; from being a hideout for hoodlums and traffic robbers to once being rumoured as a route for ritualists. So from Monday to Wednesday lastweek, thousands of cars took that route to cross to the other side and there were always these rough-looking boys around, either helping to push broken down cars or just doing outright begging. Whichever way, it was the route ALL vehicles followed from Adekunle to turn to the Obalende/Victoria Island side. Anyways, fast-forward to Thursday, some men (claiming to be men from the local government) stormed the place in the morning and started arresting cars on that route and saying the Lagos government had given the order to impound vehicles found on one-way routes. Note, this road is a small gate under the bridge (has no vehicular movement from the other side whatsoever) and had never been opened to cars before (so it's not designated officially as one-way or two-way); and so it seemed appropriate at this time as we have had such ad hoc routes opened in several places from time to time since the construction started - people who use the bridge daily can attest to these ad hoc openings daily. My father-in-law (over 60 years old) was driving by himself to his office on this route when he was stopped by these guys (note that there were several other vehicles on the path but they probably targeted those they saw as vulnerable). Out of courtesy, he wound down the side glass to ask what was going on, but to his surprise was forcefully wrestled off the steering. He was left in a state of shock as the boys were fierce. When one of them eventually got into the vehicle, they threatened him about his car being impounded by them and later auctioned because that road was a one-way route (one that doesn't even exist as an official road on the map; no road signs, just sand and dirt) and then gave him an option to pay a token to them if he didn't want to lose his vehicle. According to them, they were doing him a favour!! After begging for several minutes and being harassed, he was asked to park his car and was taken on foot to another one of them who had a POS machine on him. My father-in-law paid N62,500 to them (receipt attached) before he was let go. He was really shaken. Obviously, the road is now a trap to lure unsuspecting drivers and rip them off. Drivers on this route, please beware! These boys are there now everyday. Anyone else experienced this ??Mods, please help push this to the front page to alert unsuspecting Drivers!!

Arrewa:Well done!! However, by the time Africa arrives, others would have moved on. We are celebrating what should have been in 1990 in 2020 [thanks to corrupt and mediocre leadership]! |
That wasn't Mrs. Alakija!!! It's obvious a lot don't even know her in person. So this is how fake news spread A lot just read and swallow anything!! |
Let me break things down to some of us, especially Christians! 1. God does not use perfect people, because no one is perfect!! Not a GO, a Pope...no one. The system of the world is warped because of the ideologies of men (not because God created it like that). When He then decides to do something, He will use the people in that warped system and not send you an angel. Hence, Trump may not be your ideal holy holy figure, but God can use Him to drive His agenda...period!! 2. The influence of America on earth is super huge. The policies and agendas they role out as a nation have a way of influencing every other nation. If the Antichrist is to propagate his lawless ideologies when he is revealed, then he needs America at his beck and call. Trump is, and has been a stumbling block in passing some of these liberal laws that will eventually lead more people to having reprobate minds and fueling utopianism. Funny enough, Trump, being a spoilt brat and stubborn individual doesn't even understand that He's playing out a script about the end time... He's not succumbed to endorsing those evil laws because he's just stubborn and doesn't want to be a puppet in the hands of some, not because he believes entirely that God is using him in any way. Whichever way things go, the coming of the Son of man is nearer than ever before. Trump's reelection was meant to afford us more grace time (according to some quarters), and the election of a Democrat is supposed to be the nail on the coffin - to bring about the age of liberalism and lawlessness that will usher in the Antichrist. ...in all your ways, daily seek [God's] wisdom and remember that our ticket is just believing that Jesus died for us because of what is coming! That is our salvation!!!!! |
