Family › Re: How Do Men Become Bold, Fearless And Confrontational? by Dimehook: 6:43am On May 12 |
iyke484real: Good evening fellow Nairalanders.
Something happened today that has really made me question myself as a man, and I sincerely need honest advice from mature minds here.
Earlier today, my younger one went to the field to play football. After some time, he came back home crying seriously with blood rushing from his head. According to him, he had an altercation with someone much bigger than him, and the person picked up a stick and hit him on the head.
Immediately, I became angry and asked him to take me to the field to identify the person that injured him. Deep down, I was expecting myself to react aggressively because I felt any normal man would naturally defend his younger one and confront the person strongly.
When we got there and I saw the guy, something happened to me. Instead of fighting or causing a serious scene, I just started asking questions about what happened. I couldn’t bring myself to react violently or aggressively the way many people probably would have. I eventually carried my younger one and went back home.
Since then, I have been feeling ashamed and disappointed in myself.
The painful part is that this is not the first time I have noticed this about myself. I always seem to avoid problems, confrontations, or situations that may escalate. Even when I am angry, I still start thinking about consequences, expenses, police issues, public embarrassment, injuries, and other complications that may arise if things get out of hand.
Because of this, I often withdraw instead of standing my ground fully.
Now I am beginning to feel like I am too timid and not confrontational enough as a man should be. Sometimes I feel weak, powerless, and unable to command respect the way other men do. I see some people react boldly in difficult situations while I keep overthinking consequences and avoiding escalation.
Honestly, it is affecting the way I see myself.
Please, I need sincere advice from experienced people here:
- How can someone stop being too timid or fearful? - How do you become more confident and confrontational when necessary? - How do you stand your ground as a man without always retreating? - Is this kind of behavior weakness, or is there another way to look at it? - What practical things can I start doing to become mentally stronger and more assertive?
I would genuinely appreciate honest advice, especially from men who may have struggled with similar issues before overcoming them. Bro, your kind is what it takes to bring peace, hearing from both side, violence is never an answer, ask yourself, if you fight back, do you have the gut to keep fighting when it escalates, can you take on the allies of the other party, do you have allies that's ready to stand by you. what you call timid is emotional intelligence,.you don calculate the risks that most people only realize after it escalates, or after they get arrested and locked up. That's what being a man is, violence lead to problems most times that end up costing you a lot. You're not a coward, you're a man who understands that restraint is the best form of strength. |

Most social media don't have dislike button though, even YouTube limited it, you can dislike but number of dislikes not visible, FB, tiktok, X, Instagram doesn't have it Banbanna: You've really done well with this platform over the years. But there's just one thing I have been hoping you'd introduce on this platform, The Dislike Button. Just as most other SM websites have the like and dislike buttons, yours should have at least by now have that too. Except there's a very good reason, you've decided not to. |

Programming › Re: Nairaland Full-stack Vibe Engineering Challenge #1 (Ludo Game) by Dimehook: 9:31pm On Dec 26, 2025 |
pak: Okay, I took my time to test each one. For me the best UI was Techtoyin but unfortunately, I couldn't get the game to work. Maybe I was doing something wrong but an app like this should be intuitive for someone like me. game worked and supported two dice though Seun says it had the pretiest board but to be honest, I felt the UI and components were was the clumsiest. Did a great job though Horladoyin should have been the outright winner, fully featured, worked perfectly, clean UI...but it supported only one die. The conventional ludo I know is a two dice game but to be honest, if I were to award, I will still give it to Horladoyin.
Kudos to everyone including the organizers I viewed the 3 games, among the three Vikkilee's game felt like an actual gaming environment, the opening animation, music and game sound, and most especially the keyboard support, I dont think any of the entries implemented that, for what it's worth, those 3 picks were nice. |

Programming › Re: Nairaland Full-stack Vibe Engineering Challenge #1 (Ludo Game) by Dimehook: 10:06am On Dec 25, 2025 |
Seun: I know the winner and the first runner up. These two entries were picked primarily due to sweetness of gameplay. They keep things moving.
There are also other entries I want to commend for the beauty of their boards, the quality of their animation, et cetera. Thank you, now is the right time to announce the winners |

When are we getting the result? |
Programming › Re: Nairaland Full-stack Vibe Engineering Challenge #1 (Ludo Game) by Dimehook: 1:50pm On Dec 22, 2025 |
Seun: I noticed I was unfairly preferring entries that supported retina displays just because they looked sharper.
Some agents automatically included devicePixelRatio handling, making their Entries look premium while others looked blurry.
In order to judge entries more fairly, we have added this line to all blurry boards renderer.setPixelRatio(Math.min(window.devicePixelRatio, 2)); It is an unusual thing to do in a contest, but it was the best option. Now we can focus on gameplay sweetness. Thank you seun for the update, I also saw the list of criterias you created But I have some questions: 1. Are those criteria evaluated on a pass/fail basis, or are they scored/weighted? For example, if a feature is implemented but not perfectly (e.g., good game music is added, but it still plays when the tab is out of focus), would that be considered a full fail, or would it receive partial credit? I feel like there should be some kind of partial score in cases like this 2. Since the original challenge emphasizes UNIQUE features and overall “sweetness” of the game, shouldn't entries also receive credit or bonus points for innovative features that improve gameplay but are not explicitly listed in the published criteria? |
Nairaland General › Re: Nairaland Is Partially Back; A Work In Progress by Dimehook: 11:22am On Dec 21, 2023 |
Seun: Dear Nairalanders and Advertisers.
Nairaland's server was taken down by our host's abuse team because of an abuse report that wasn't attended to on time.
After rectifying the error, we brought the server back for a few minutes, but they decided to take the server down again. Since then, we haven't heard from the abuse team, yet the support team keeps insisting that only the abuse team can help us.
So we had to transfer Nairaland to a temporary host in order to bring it back to you. A VERY time-consuming process. We are not fully back, even though most features of the site are working. We still have a long way to go. Additional downtime is likely; don't let it alarm you.
There's a lot more to say, but I have to go back to work to ensure that our return is permanent. Please forgive us for the stress we caused. We appreciate the love and support that you showed us during the ordeal. Nairaland is too important for us to let this happen again.
Best Regards, Seun Osewa. Seun, switch to an offshore hosting |

I graduated from Fuoye, thank God I was able to, atleast a student die almost every semester if not session, the school needs prayer, the origin of the school needs to be checked, I heard people went spiritual (oye/ikole) on themselves and many died, when the school started, might not be the reason but it definitely needs serious prayer |

A Silver Back Gorilla 🦍
A Grizzly Bear 🐻

Locked up in a cage, Who Would actually come out victorious
Ps animals fighting are not legal and shouldn't be encouraged, but if such situations ever take place, who will be the last one standing?
Please can this make Front page for a louder audience?
Thanks The clear winner is Grizzly bear, those thing are straight up manace to the society, they are bigger, stronger. Why do you think california has a Grizzly bear on their flag, those thing were killing and eating people and they had to kill them all, gorilla could compete but its no match |

Biodun556: School fees may increase across all federal universities.
The students loan could be another way to gain more supporters during election e.g. loan cancellation or debt forgiveness
Since some parents are borrowing to pay their children school fees, the students loan is not a bad idea because it is interest free. Yeah, I've said it alot of times, it's a bad ID, school fees might start to Increase, those who can afford before might not be able to anymore and they will have to opt in for loans. This is thesame reason why school fees are ridiculously high in the United States, and its might be worse here in Nigeria for alot of reasons |
