THE Director-General, Debt Management Office (DMO), Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, yesterday disclosed that Nigeria’s total debt comprising external and domestic debt portfolio stands at $37 billion.

Nwankwo, who briefed journalists in Abuja, said the government and the DMO were "very comfortable and committed to seeing that there is value for money not only for borrowed funds, but also oil revenue.

He added that Nigeria’s current debt profile is very healthy and sustainable. "As at the end of June 2011, our debt-Gross Domestic Product ratio still hovers around 19 per cent, which is much below the 40 per cent threshold," he stated.

Advice needed. I hold a first degree in Microbiology, an MBA and work with one of the foremost banking institutions (4years and counting) here in Nigeria. From the outside, I've got a good deal. Good work ratings, a recent promotion ,  Suddenly (call it mid-20s crisis) I have begun to entertain thoughts of resigning from a 'good' job and relocating/travelling to study nursing in Canada, and yes, with no plans of returning to Nigeria! One or two people I have had to speak with think it's foolhardy, but a growing disconnect with the country, it's hapennings and a seeming lack of challenge on the job are nudging me towards that path.

Sometimes, I seem a little too scatter-brained, even to myself. It gets depressing as the days go by.

I'd appreciate some candid advice. Are the pleasant tales of fat earnings by nurses abroad really that rosy? What are the odds I will be faced with?

According to sources, the Police Service Commission (PSC), headed by Mr Mike Okiro in 2007, recommended that all graduates within the rank and file of the force should be upgraded to the rank of senior officer.

Following the recommendation, a qualifying examination was organised for the 2,884 graduates that registered, which was held at Staff College, Jos.

After the examination, it was discovered that candidates of northern origin were not many in the list of those who made the 63 per cent cut-off mark, a reason the special cut-off mark of 25 per cent was designed for those from the northern states.
