Don't you just love Nigerians

At first they don't want Islamic banking, Nigeria is a secular society

Then they don't have a problem with Islamic banking but the guidelines - the guideline that theyve not seen

Then they don't have a problem with it just the name, They don't mind but the name should be changed

Then they want the CBN to also 'allow' Christian banks, was it preventing it before?

Then Nigeria is fragile for Islamic banking, because the security situation in the country, very soon Friday prayers will be banned because of security

maybe u should try reposting under Travel and Education sections.

U might also find more lawyers under the Properties section.

At the end of the day, its your money, your choice, your career and your life.

You could look up some senior learned colleagues currently practising in that area and seek their opinions via email or chat (tete-a-tete).

Your colleagues or bosses might be able to hook you up with such bigwigs.

Since u've ruled out the online option, i assume the travel experience is a great factor.

Oga dey try reason before you jump in . . .we were comparing the monthly revenue allocation of the state . . and that article embraced both the former revenue of the state ( Duke era) and the present due to the oil wells ceded to Akwa Ibom State . . .
So the best thing is to go ahead with a White big Elephant with no guidelines, then blame the northerners cos the northerns are the only ones in the red/green chambers? Even Imoke

“I can award contracts and the big boys get the contracts. I can build the biggest hospitals that are just empty, maybe only with beds, and I’m praised for doing well. Anytime you see us promoting ourselves, opening roads, buildings, commissioning water and so on, whether they are functioning or sustainable or not, people may think we are successful. This thing is very difficult to explain to the majority of our people but that’s the reality. So, in government, you have to choose between trying to be loved by everybody and hailed or decide to bury your head and serve the people well. If you have conscience, you consider what I call the human factor. It is something that can’t be measured or quantified.”

The irony is that Cross River is about the poorest state in the Niger Delta. The loss of oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon only aggravated the pitiable financial position of Cross River State. There is a joke in Calabar that James Ibori, when he was governor of Delta State used to jocularly taunt Duke, telling him that he (Ibori) had paid his civil servants and would ask Duke if he needed money to pay Cross River workers.

I don't know the numbers but The stalls  rented are handled by the State Government and i think it was going for about 120K for just 2 weeks and  . . . Imagine inhabitants making close to 300k in profits  in the Yuletides, a period known for sapping people hard earned saved money .One thing is obvious . .the Owambe equals to cash generation for sharp minds  . .  . . . The Carnival is also increasing the hospitality sector in the state . . .the ripple effects it has by attracting investments in New hotels and eateries springing up everywhere is glaring which also add to the taxable income they state will get  . .Your celebrity line is a cheap shot . . . you can try again . . .
What hotels by the big bellied politicians, including the current minister for tourism, eateries operating in only one season?

Its just the fact, the gov host all of them, heard last year the government extended invitations to organisers of London carnival and some Caribbean bands, you think they will come with their own funds nahhh!
Same way the state is hosting a mountain race, pay foreigners to come, put them up with oyinbo officials then they win the prize money bye bye, how many spectators come for these race self

But it will be nice if they have an Tour of Calabar/Obudu bike race like Tour de France, very nice scenery

Look how Asian expats use western education to better their countries while Nigerians just complain. .
How's a country going to deveelop when it's best Most promising ppl (figurativly) abandon it?

Stop looking for excuses and look for oppurtunities.
Why?
The system in Asian is totally different from that of Africa/Nigeria!!
The system in asian is more receptive of criticism and the need for change but in Nigeria Criticism is an insult and 'we have our way of doing it' so who are you?

Speaking with journalists on Friday, the soft spoken governor said his government, however, will explore both political and legal options to ensure the parties return to the statusquo. He said the decision has led to the reduction of the state’s federal allocation from 2.2billion naira to 1.05 billion amidst the states’ rising debt profile.

Currently, he said, his state receives an average of 1.05billion naira as monthly allocation from the Federal Government while the state’s wage bill is over 1billion naira. ‘In the past we had some savings to cancel the deficit, but now we have exhausted our savings, how do we cope?"
Why are you bringing in the present governor of CRS, instead of Donald Duke

The 73billion debt profile for that state was mainly Duke's fault!

@Poster, IF you want to return when you are done with your MD, it is a PERSONAL choice you have to make. However, note that you are no different from the Nigerian doctor, trained in Nigeria, in that you will only be another citizen of Nigeria and nothing more than that when we are all counted at the end of the day.

Now, if you can, learn to separate your PERSONAL choice to make sacrifices from the running of a COUNTRY and the lives of people, that would be much appreciated. You are not an angel for wanting to go back and you are certainly no better than the Nigerian carpenter in nigeria who has never been outside of Nigeria but struggling to make a better life for his family down there.

As to improving Nigeria, Nigerians already sacrifice Billions of dollars in money generated from resources each year -- instead of demanding a check in the mail each month, they give that money to the Government so it can use it to better their collective lives. That the Government continues to fail at this does not then mean the responsibility should fall on the shoulder of those who do not live in Nigeria.

Diasporans already remit about $10 billion a year to help boost Nigeria's economy, you want demand blood from them now?
+10

I you come back here to start a transport business or bottled water factory, are you developing Nigeria or just starting your own personal business

if you come back to lecture or treat patients without getting paid then yea i will say you are contributing to the development of the economy  cheesy

what happened to this international airport, The Foreign Airline are not demanding to go there?

meanwhile, the state govt is begging the FG to come and take the airport- Original Business sense O!!!

The Akwa Ibom State government is ready to hand over the management of Ibom International airport, Uyo, to the federal government, the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, has said.

The request of the state government is coming at a time the federal government has concessioned some parts of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos to private operators and plans are afoot to concession other federal airports across the country.

The Ibom International Airport, which was initially designed as a cargo airport, is currently being upgraded with the construction of its maintenance, repair and overhaul hanger.

Mr Akpabio, who expressed the wish of the state government at the weekend in Uyo, during a meeting with the minister of aviation, Stella Oduah Ogiemwonyi, said the state government was willing to relinquish ownership of the airport on condition that the federal government signs a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with it.

Mr Akpabio said the federal government would particularly benefit from the maintenance, repair, and overhaul hanger under construction.

International standard

Describing the state airport as one that met with international standards, the governor noted that his government was willing to partner with the federal government and stated that plans were on to add another runway to the existing one.

"Nigeria does not encourage progress. I would have thought the federal government would have even jumped and taken over the project. We have constructed an international runway. The federal government could have built a second runway. We could have used it an economic hub for the Gulf of Guinea and for rescue operation in times of emergency," Mr Akpabio said.

Already, the state government has trained some personnel to operate the airport in Australia, Canada, and the US.
Governor is running away from his own airport, why cant he privatise it instead of calling for FG

Concesionaire of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Bi-Courtney Highway Services Ltd, on Monday alleged that the Ogun State Government was hindering reconstruction work on the highway.

The company accused the state governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, of ordering the stoppage of the installation of an asphalt plant meant to provide bitumen for the road construction.

The company, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Dipo Kehinde, said Amosun visited the installation site on Sunday with policemen and bulldozers to order the stoppage of the installation of equipment.

Kehinde, however, described the action as a wrong move.

He said, “Since the grant of the concession, Ogun State Government was taken as a major partner, given that 80 per cent of the highway falls within the state. The state was to give us land as its own contribution to the project. The former RCC yard was identified, visited and allocated to us by the state government. The process entailed joint visit, and assessment before allocation. All due processes were followed.

“To buttress this fact, we duly settled the land owners to demonstrate our commitment to the site. The payment to the landowners was done, after due consultation with the state government and confirmation of the landowners at a joint stakeholders meeting with officials of the Bureau of Land. The state government actually brokered the meeting with the families of land owners.”

But a statement from the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, said, “There is no record that the company had neither furnished consideration as required nor fulfilled other pre-conditions necessary for it to take full possession. By operation of law, title cannot pass if there is failure of consideration.

“Therefore, any claim by any individual or company to the parcel of land is without basis. The fact that the state requires the land for its trailer park project is an overriding public purpose which weighs higher than any other form of interest.”

The Federal Government has given the concessionaire in charge of the modernisation and management of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Bi Courtney Highway Services, a 60-day ultimatum to complete its preliminary repairs to reduce the agony of people using the road.

The ultimatum, it said, was based on the frequent complaints from users of the road.

The Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, gave the directive when he met the officials of Bi Courtney Highway led by its Chairman, Chief Wale Babalakin, in Lagos.

A statement by the Federal Ministry of Works on Sunday quoted the minister as saying his inspection of the road as his first assignment was informed by the seriousness the Federal Government attached to the development of key infrastructure.

According to Onolememen, the expressway, which is the busiest in the country, holds a lot of promise for the public-private partnership model and is expected to be the flagship of this mode of project execution.

“The Federal Ministry of Works will collaborate and encourage you to deliver this project on time. If you achieve the timeline, there will be no quarrel. We would hold you accountable in fixing the bad spots that have continued to be a source of pain to travellers on the road in 60 days,” he said.

Onolememen said the company must first repair the road, to ease the pains its users were currently being exposed to, before the main reconstruction work.

He urged the company to adopt a short-term solution for the repairs before the commencement of the modernisation of the road in September.

Although details of the repair work were not disclosed, the statement said the minister made recommendations on what should be done.

He also visited the company’s project site office in company with the director of federal highways, the federal controller of works for Lagos and other ministry officials.

While promising to assist the company in ensuring the safety and security of its workers, he also lauded the PPP initiative as the most pragmatic way of fixing road infrastructure in Nigeria, given the budgetary challenges.

Among other challenges enumerated by Babalakin in the efforts to commence full operations on the road were the problem of securing the Right of Way and the provision of parks for numerous trailers plying the road.
