Basics007:HE did already, he will probably have to be in here 24/7 to continue defending himself or answering people why a Nigerian/White is getting a job in Nigeria ![]() This is the real Ajuri Ngelale. I googled and I found this thread about me falsely calling me lebanese. So I wanted you all to know the truth about me. I no dey vex, no walhala. Nice to know that some of you appreciate my efforts. I do what I do to shed light on issues in a way that people in authority can't hide from. Time for transformation and Im just doing my part. Yes, Im from Rivers State Nigeria and proud to be back home. Back for good. Hopefully, I can contribute my small quota to making our nation greater than it already is. Take care all. Fact Five: Contrary to general beliefs, the use of cash as a means of exchange is not declining worldwide, even with the growth in the use of alternative payment methods, such as internet, cards, mobile devices etc. Studies by Mastercard, the International Association of Currency Affairs, European Central Bank and recently by a group of 10 central banks in Europe, Asia and Latin America, confirmed that year on year, the volume of cash is growing worldwide. The recent global economic crisis has made the situation even more so, given the well-established tendency of people to use more of cash in periods of tension, war or uncertainty. The cumulative effect of the CBN initiatives is to stem the rate of increase of cash in circulation and hopefully bring the volume down substantially. Even at a level of 4 billion notes (which will be a massive achievement), Nigeria will still remain one of the top cash economies in the world over the lifetime of the present generation! Fact Six: The unsustainably high volume of currency in circulation in Nigeria has dire consequences for the economy. With a GDP substantially less than that of South Africa, the aggregate volume of currency in circulation in Nigeria is over 5 billion (excluding coins) compared with 900 million for South Africa! To make this situation truly desperate, only 38 per cent of bankable Nigerians have bank accounts (when adjusted for multiple account holdings this figure is less); alternative payment channel penetration in Nigeria is 13 per 100,000 people, compared with 453 for Uganda, 338 for Namibia, 67 for India, 1,063 for Malaysia, 2,091 for Singapore, 2,247 for Brazil, 1,063 for South Africa! It is against the foregoing realities of the Nigeria financial landscape that the CBN, in discharging its statutory function of facilitating an orderly, modern and secure financial system, and in consultation with the Bankers Committee approved a combination of policy guidelines, (of which the cash withdrawal limit is just one) with a view to achieving the following much needed objectives: -Reduce the costs of cash to the banks and to CBN by discouraging the use of cash; redirect the savings to reduce rates of lending and other banking services. -Introduce and popularise the use of alternative channels of payments such as mobile devices, ATMs, cards, POS terminals and thus decongest low value customer traffic in bank branches. By these measures the CBN is pursuing the formalisation of the transactions of the more than 62 per cent of bankable Nigerians operating outside the banking system, thereby progressing towards the desired goal of financial inclusiveness. |
More significant than the foregoing sentiments is the fact that I am a Nigerian and reasonably knowledgeable about the subject of cash and thus feel compelled to share some of the facts about the Nigeria cash industry with the public for purposes of engendering greater awareness of the subject matter. I will also attempt to highlight the compelling logic of the CBN action, and the timing of its implementation. I have chosen to proceed by restating the following incontrovertible facts that are relevant to the subject matter. Fact One: Cost of cash to the Nigeria financial system is high and rising, N114 billion in 2009 and projected to reach N192 billion in 2012. Jut to put this in context, the budget provisions for the Ministries of Power, Health, Education and Works in the 2011 budget are N90 billion, N257 billion, N356billion and N182 billion respectively. Fact Two: About 30 per cent of the physical space in bank branches, plus same fraction of employees are deployed to cash operations. This means that a reduction in the cost of cash should achieve significant, direct impact on the aggregate cost of operation for all banks, including the CBN. Fact Three: Cost of banking services is typically recovered from the customers (in the form of COT, interest and charges on borrowings). This means that indeed the cash operations costs are currently apportioned to other customers and stakeholders of the bank. Fact Four: In Nigeria, over 99 per cent of customer activities in a typical bank branch are cash transactions, only 10 per cent of total number of cash transactions are above N150,000 but this 10 per cent accounts for about 70 per cent of total bank branch value of cash transactions. Consequently, 10 per cent of customers that make high volume cash transactions impose the reported huge cost of cash operations on 90 per cent other customers. Put differently, 90 per cent of bank customers (plus other stakeholders) are currently subsidising the cost of the heavy cash transactions generated by the 10 per cent of bank cash customers! |
^^ Ha, you did well by clarifying it. African Americans are part of America. They helped build America. If Africans leave? They will feel it because the informal sectors will be seriously affected, you know these people are lazy, they need a nanny, a dishwasher, security etc and not to say Africans are destined to those but truth is they hold the ace there. My 2 kobo
erm the Mexican, South Americans and Asians will troop in, better wages for them in the short term |
SouthEast:Maga, go check out the cry over compensation from the FG and we all know the FG dont pay good money for roads built on their behalf by the states, An opposition state for that matter Jonnie should be sending a bill to the National Assembly to hands off all roads in each state but instead the drunkard is using his own incompetency to promote a lazy bill for elongation |

Osun state House of Assembly has confirmed the receipt of list of commissioner-nominees from Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Thursday. 1. The CBN Governor should not have made himself the public face of Islamic banking, that was STUUUPID, DUUUMB and very un-strategic for a central bank governor to do. It makes him come of as a SILLY FANATIC.I dont understand this point, he should have allowed someone else explain islamic banking or should have allowed the banks demand for an islamic window? |
Ire007:what indices in a recession? |
