I am a staff in one of the affected banks and this is my point.

The CBN intervention is a good initiative but I have a serious doubt with its implementation.
I will hold the apex bank for planning this betrayal chess game since 2009 to take over some of these banks with this reason; Why would the CBN avoid appointing a business minded MD instead of auditors? This is a clear indication that the CBN head does not want the banks to seal concrete deals on recapitalization. Business minds are purely and solely different from auditors mind.

I still ask, why would he take this step before sept 30 as his deadline. Though I understand some shareholder where planning some shady deals by monday.

I also ask why would he do this before the resumption of Okojo Iwuala?

Secondly, Islamic banking invisible managers cannot penetrate Nigerian market without competing favourably on the same platform as other perceived healthy banks if not through acquiring existing banks and maintain their customer base and assets.

However, one of the top economy driver in this country in the person of Dangote as an islamic man will simply key into this non-interest bank. No hausa business man would want COT charges and other interest bearing charges as its against their religion.

Nevertheless, Islamic banking has been proven to be an economy growing tool but has a major flaw as a means of funding terrorism because of their huge wealth base. Nigeria is a lawless country where cash are moved around without questions.

Al quada has stated that Nigeria will be one of their base and with this banking reforms its clearer now on how their operations will be.

It is therefore clear that as a Regulator he acted hastily, and without discretion, which is scandalous considering that this is a post he has held for less than two months. Clear measures availed him in taking gradual steps to correct the anomalies.

A top Australian mining company, CGA Mining Limited, announced on Wednesday at the Mining Indaba Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, that it would be investing in a Ilesha, gold mining project in Osun State, which would yield a minimum production profile in excess of 100,000 ounces a year.

Speaking at the third day of the conference, which attracted mining executives, investors, analysts, financiers, journalists and policy makers from around the world, the President and Chief Executive Officer, CGA Mining Limited, Mr. Micheal Carrick, explained that the company already had a 51 per cent stake in the Segilola Gold Project in Osun State.

The announcement by CGA was obviously Nigeria’s best sales pitch at the conference and a confirmation that the country was immensely endowed with solid minerals begging to be exploited by investors.

The project is considered to be the most advanced gold exploration project in Nigeria and is held by Segilola Gold Limited in joint venture with its partner, Tropical Mines Limited, a Nigerian company owned by local investors and the Nigerian Government.

Describing the preliminary results from the gold project as exceptional, Carrick confirmed that Nigeria had great geological potentialities, especially as the Ghanaian belt, which hosted gold production of more than 20 million ounces extended down into Nigeria.

According to him, “We have proven very high quality maiden resource of over 620,000 ounces.

“This maiden resource has been generated from a first pass drilling campaign of 12,166 metres in 119 holes ranging in depth from 40m to 220m.

“The deposit lends itself to being exploited by open pit mining methods. The metallurgical characteristics of the ore are amenable to fully conventional CIL processing techniques.

“We have only drawn down to 150,000 metres, but the grade is 6.7 grams per tonne and the recovery is 96 per cent.

“The deposit remains open along strike (existing strike length of 1.9km) and at depth and there is a substantial evidence of parallel zones of mineralisation.”

Chinese Firm Begins Gold Mining in Osun State

The  Company spokeman said its previous trip to Osun State's gold mine and  various analyses it conducted  on samples it took to China, convinced it that it should start "100 per cent business," in Osun State . He said the seriousness of the governor on the agreement earlier signed and the hospitality displayed by the  people during an earlier visit, were pointers to the fact that the company could do business with Osun State.

"We are not here to find out whether there is gold or not. We are here to do business. We have come with engineers and other staff with the necessary equipment. In the next one and a half years, the company plans to commit about N1 billion into the project," he said.

Only time will tell if Sanusi is right or wrong in his policy actions. But as it is always the case precedence have continued to show that SLS's hasty actions leaves devastating blow in the economy. Making decisions based on impulse and bigoted disposition is never the right path to tow. Even as at today these banks are meeting their customer's cash withdrawal request and there is no sign of sudden collapse. Maybe SLS is seeing what me and most other Nigerians are not seeing, but whatever may be the case, only time will tell

You have said it all. yes, the cbn appointed the present mgt but greed and selfishness has blindfolded them that they can't act right again-an average nigerian's habit. The cbn did not hint them on this move at all. One of them went to abj to get update from sls but did not succeed.
If not that the apex bank took them unawares, they would have further dampened the reserves of these concerns.

I actually wanted to say that too but didn't want to generalise as the other appointed Managers did well to stabilise the bank and got them in a stable condition,and maybe some just didn't succeed because of the level of rot and in-fighting

This same thing happened at the beginning as well, one went to Ota to meet obasanjo before rushing out of the country when the axe was coming that's after several adverts in the newspapers- how tacky is that!!!
