Me sha, before then i will have to have 30 ATM cards, at a go i can withdraw up to one million and not loose a up to 500 bucks. We are not going any where. We dey kampe.
do you feel inadequate if you dont get to see your money in real cash, you feel less poor seeing the money with ya koroko eye so? grin

someone with several millions will already have enough sense to get internet banking and ATM cards anyway, so keep counting those kobos wink

Princek12:
Nigeria is a very funny country. They are trying to promote a cashless society like the western world, but they have not put in place the necessary infrastructure that will enable a cashless society to come into fruition. No adequate power, not so easy for merchants to get the machine, etc.
there are already several shops and locations accepting cards for payment, mobile banking is also taking off, these directives will only make banks and pos promoters hasten up and get those lil machines out there, most business are already operating with inadequate power anyway and in 12 months time we should be several MW up

some banks already charge for withdraw less than 100k or 50k or something to encourage people to use atm

^^ but London is still sustainable, the house prices re-adjust once in a while, stratford is now an Olympic area
but price of some products in Lagos is something else

the cost of living vs the living wage is not balanced at all

WHATS THE PERCENTAGE OF BANK CUSTOMERS WITHDRAWING OVER 150,000 IN A DAY IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY??

AND A MASSIVE PORTION OF THE GROUP THTA CAN AFFORD/NEED TO WITHDRAW THAT LARGE SUM WOULD PROBABLY BE EDUCATED ENOUGH TO GET AN ATM OR USE INTERNET BANKING

2011-2012

this time next year people will still be asking for an 'extension' it's not rocket science

OAM4J:
Yes I agree, but am not sure we have the resources to  develop an entirely new rail network in 4 years, I will support a gradual process starting from what is on the ground.

Since there is already a rail line from Lagos-Abeokuta-Ibadan-Ogbomosho (I think), lets link that line eastward, like Ibadan-Ilesha- Akure-Ado ekiti through PPP
but the current line is a single gauge line, very slow old school system that cant be improved much, Lagos to ibadan is taking 7-8 hours, very bad for business or those intending to work in one state and live in another.
You mean that it is a bad idea to do this, I guess.
So are you envisioning
A) better ordinary rail networks for transporting goods
B) and high-speed rail/train from say Ibadan to Lagos to transport people?

That, as an alternative to laying down new interstate roads?
you can use the same track for the same thing, high speed rail will do both just change coaches

My advice: As a businessman, don't attempt this in Nigeria in a 'sensitive' sector without FG's support.
the FG is not an enemy, they'll always be on board, price has been gradually rising since '09 and its being reviewed again so I'm sure they'll finally get their profits, those already investing in IPP sure arent business newbies

naijababe:
Not sure it will work on any of the above, are all the above under the power of the FG? I recall Tinubu wanted to badly to commence IPP in Lagos with Enron and Obj suffocated it
But lagos was able to get AES i think to generate power 270mw and 12mw for water project

the majority will be distributed nationwide but going forward the distribution companies are being privatized they just have to invest in these companies like lagos invested in a transformer manufacturing company, if SW states invest in IPP they can deal to get a better share of the overall output before it goes countrywide

Katsumoto:
FG may concede certain infrastructure when there are alternatives. But if it concedes roads to state governments, how does it maintain reach to every corner, if state govts deny passage or refuse to maintain? Granting a concession to a private firm to maintain is not the same as relinquishing control.

Every state assumes responsibility for the stretch within its borders.
they dont have to relinquish control just force it to pass them to private companies you have interest in and/or improve the infrastructure, the end goal is to link the states with good roads/trains, not necessarily to own everything, so the senators/reps will be working harder to get the best deal for the region and monitor lazy contractors or lazy treasury officials to release money

Bulge? Nope!

Then, 36 states will have ports/PPP. Thus undermining the statutory obligations/oversight of FG.
obviously they wont say yes to everything, it will under go scrutiny but the states will be strategically moving in the same direction

or what about all these.?

Dis Guy:
the Lagos=Ibadan road was concessioned*, 25 years i think to Bi-courtney

the local airport in lagos was concessioned* , Bicourtney

they were looking for ppp ofr the benin-ore road

the badagry road was ppp'd with Fg approval and im sure the metro rails in lagos got FG approval too

why will they block foreign money?

The FG will budge it will only take time, i dont think the FG will say no to foreign investment just becuase its coming to a certain region, all they need to do is PPP, the FG contribute the state government contribute and the private sector contribute, so everyone is always involved those in different percentages

The ACN is a minority party but sabotaging progress wont look good on jonathan's CV, the media will polongo his case to the whole world as an enemy of progress, tribalistic mehu mehu

Politics › Re: Sw: What Is Next? by DisGuy: 12:04am On Apr 28, 2011
Yea agriculture is very important most especially the full chain in that sector so we dont just sell raw products and the state should push for a ban on local produced or produceable food products

We need the whole region to be linked together then take advantage of neighbouring countries too, that will expand expand the market

Politics › Re: Governors Heading For Defeat by DisGuy: 11:34pm On Apr 27, 2011
Katsina is obviously a dodgy result, how do you lose all you senatorial seat and all but 2 seats in the rep to win the Governorship, if they're challenging the result tehy'd better make sure the Judge is not a PDP judge, straight forward case

the Curfews in Kaduna and Bauchi are a smokescreen, the excel sheet are at it again wink

Kwara

Belgore is an upstart he started his campaign late, didnt take took much advantage of the rift within the PDP and perhaps he isnt important enough to bring the ACN heavyweights to the town with all media frenzy. Kwara should consolidate on the Bukola years, they have the man with the purse for 8 years and the godfather with some Abuja power left, their chance to grow steadily and peacefully. Kwara can do without the remote control from lagos anyway, maybe another four year
